    Opis:
    Although attending the priest seminary became absolutely obligatory only with the Council of Trent, it cannot be said that there had been no forms of preparation to the priesthood in earlier times. In the Middle Age, the candidates were generally prepared in the cathedral and monastic schools. Earlier, some kind of internship was envisaged, particularly by the functions performed while in lower grades. The monks were also seen as perfect candidates for ordination. However, it was always difficult to find the right balance between the pastoral needs for ordaining new clergy and the moral and intellectual qualifications required of them.

    Opis:
    The author attempts to answer the question concerning whether or not philosophy is needed in seminaries. In light of his analysis, it can be concluded that philosophical studies for future priests are a serious alternative to the fideistic positions often adopted by Catholics. The presence of philosophy in the seminary curriculum is supported by: (1) the need for building intellectual foundations of the religious faith professed by a cleric; the faith which cannot do without reason and abstain from justifying the rationale of its content; 2) the need for introducing the alumnus to the mysteries of the classical philosophy of being which can equip him with a better understanding of human nature and the surrounding reality. In this way, the seminarian: (1) acquires a reasonable belief that the human mind is able to know the objective and universal truth, including the truth about God as the Ultimate Cause of all that exists; (2) is able to enter into an intelligent dialogue about the truth with an increasingly globalized world.

    Opis:
    Kształcenie pastoralne przyszłych prezbiterów domaga się odnowy. Taki postulat zawiera w sobie nowe Ratio fundamentalis institutionis sacerdotalis wydane przez Kongregację ds. Duchowieństwa. Wskazuje ono, że formacja kandydata do kapłaństwa powinna odnosić się do tożsamości prezbitera. Wynika z tego, iż także seminaryjna formacja pastoralna musi za swoją podstawę i swój cel przyjąć właściwą wizję pastoralnej tożsamości prezbitera. Niniejszy artykuł podejmuje zagadnienie pastoralnej tożsamości prezbitera w aspekcie ontologicznym, kairologicznym i prakseologicznym.
    Pastoral formation of the future priests needs renewal. The new Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis published by the Congregation for the Clergy contains this demand. It indicates that for the formation of future priest it is necessary to refl ect on priestly identity. It follows that the seminary pastoral formation needs as its basis and purpose a current vision of the pastoral priestly identity. This article presents the issue of the pastoral priestly identity in the ontological, kairological and praxeolgical aspects.

Józef jest przedstawiany jako patron kapłanów i przykład kapłańskiego życia. Szczególnie akcentuje się zakorzenienie św. Józefa w życiu wewnętrznym. Jego obecność ma znaczenie w formacji seminaryjnej. Należy podkreślić konieczność refleksji teologicznej na jego temat. Wzrasta bowiem teologiczna świadomość, że chrystologia domaga się nie tylko mariologii, lecz także józefologii. Przykład św.     This reflection on the theme of Saint Joseph in Priestly Formation and in the Life of Priests is the result of the author’s experience of constantly discovering the influence of St. Joseph on the seminary and on priestly life. The Major Seminary of the Diocese of Kalisz has chosen Saint Joseph, guardian of the Universal Church, as its patron. Seminarians take part in the activities at the Shrine of St. Joseph. At the beginning of the formational year they make an act of entrustment which is repeated after ordination to the priesthood. The article intends to answer the following question: What is the meaning of Saint Joseph’s example and presence for priestly life and formation? On the basis of events presented in the Bible and the pronouncements of recent Popes, St. Joseph is presented as a patron and an example of priestly life. His role in one’s inner life is particularly emphasized. The presence of St. Joseph has a unique meaning for both the formation of those preparing for the priesthood and the life of those who are already priests. His example helps forming the priest’s fatherly attitude, as that of a man. St. Joseph teaches priests how to relate properly to Christ. He is an example of how to relate to Mary and, through Mary, to women in general.
