This paper is focused on increasing the power quality of Unique Macaroni factory, located in Bahir Dar Town. Necessary data have been collected from the factory and the collected data are analysed. Based on the analysis of data, it is found that the factory working power factor is low and hovering around 0.7125. Voltage variations are up to 9.09%, average voltage unbalance is 2.2% and total harmonic distortion (THD) of load currents and voltage are 24.17% and 10.16%, respectively. Harmonic components have existed in the power distribution system of the factory. Based on the analysis of power quality problem in the factory, distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) and its control system have been designed to boost power quality of the factory and the results are obtained by generating simulations using Matlab software. It is observed from outputs of the Matlab simulations that DSTATCOM can improve the power quality of the factory. Generally, the shape of the waveform of load voltage and current is improved and THD level of load voltage is minimised to 1.55% and load current THD level is 7.09%. The reactive power needed by the loads (442 kVAr) is almost provided by the DSTATCOM, so reactive power from source supply is very small such as 22 kVAr so that the power factor of the source tends to unity.

Opis:
This paper describes a control circuit for the active power filters working with three-phase AC power line. It describes logic circuitries as well as laboratory test results. The control circuit was realized with programmable logic devices, fast analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters. Proposed system working with open-loop control, it allows significantly simplifying its logic structure. Programmable logic devices do simultaneously a few independent tasks, so a control algorithm can be performing fast, improving considerably compensation dynamic. This paper includes results of laboratory tests of the active power filter consisted of proposed control circuit and a voltage-source converter.

Similarly to a number of other quantities, those describing voltage variation make it possible to provide a complete assessment of the quality of electrical energy. Voltage variation may be described by measures used to assess the obnoxiousness of voltage fluctuations or measures that help indicate the source of fluctuations. The paper provides a comparison of the three most popular measures: the Umax maximum and Umin minimum rms voltage values, the Pst short-term flicker indicator, and voltage fluctuation indicators. The part that specifies the particular measures (including an additional description of the ∆V10 indicator) also contains their short descriptions. The main part of the dissertation describes the dependence of the voltage fluctuation measures on the frequency of the fm amplitude and frequency modulating signal. Observations drawn allow to specify the diagnostic capabilities of particular measures. Due to the complexity of voltage fluctuation measures’ studies the paper deals with only a certain aspect of it and should be concerned as a step to understanding the idea of voltage fluctuation measures.

Recently, electricity consumers have shown increasing concern for power quality. Indeed, power quality standards have become higher than before for certain customers due to sensitivity of automation devices. In addition, power quality is affected by the deregulation of power markets in Turkey. In this study, the consumers are provided with the basic knowledge of power quality and the cost of the poor power quality while on the other hand, the existent regulations are evaluated in terms of consumers’ rights so that poor power quality costs and loss are identified and amended. There are so many regulations in relation to the rights of electrical power consumers in legislation that regulates the relations between distribution companies and the consumers, whereas, in this study, only the issue of power quality is dealt with.

The significant problem of compensator placement and sizing in electrical networks has been analyzed in the paper. The compensation is usually realized by means of passive or active power filters. The former solution is widely used mainly because of the economical reasons, but the latter one becomes more and more popular as the number of nonlinear loads increases. Regardless of the compensator type the most important goal consists in voltage and current distortion drop below levels imposed by standards. Nevertheless, the desired effects should be achieved with the minimum cost. So far a few objective functions have been proposed for this optimization problem. It is claimed that minimization of the compensator currents leads also to the minimum costs. This paper shows that such simplified approach could lead to suboptimal solutions and in fact a function g(·) reflecting the relation between the compensator size and its price must be incorporated into objective functions. Moreover, in this case it is very easy to compare solutions obtained using compensators offered by different suppliers - it is enough to change the function g(·). Theoretical considerations have been illustrated by an example of active power filter allocation and sizing.

The aim of the paper is to demonstrate how to use sampled method of control of a shunt active power filter to maintain invariable power of a supplying voltage source, even though the supplied load varies randomly. The definition by S. Fryze of load current components is used as a basis for the construction of a family of shunt active power filters. The distinctive property of these filters is maintaining non-deformed source current in every one individually considered period T. The main features of the family of filters are described in the first part of the paper, which is devoted to DC circuit. In the second part, the results are implemented to a single- and a three-phase circuit. Additionally, some new features, which may be applied only for AC circuit, are discussed in the second part. All the presented waveforms are obtained using computer simulation tools.

This paper presents an example of practical use of Prony's method for monitoring of power waveform fundamental harmonic fluctuations, which is required for the analysis of window synchronizations in frequency analyses in power monitoring systems. The example presented offers verification of the authors' theoretical considerations published earlier in articles about Prony's method and its opportunities for practical use for real life signals. The investigations shown are based on the least squares Prony's method, which, in connection with digital filtrations, enables estimations of fundamental frequency at the rate of even tens of times per one fundamental harmonic period.

This work deals with the flow of the electromagnetic energy through an idealized single-phase transformer supplied with nonsinusoidal voltage and supplying a nonlinear load. The electromagnetic flux components of the energy that flows from primary to secondary as well as the flux of energy stored in and ejected from the dielectric space surrounding the windings are identified and quantified. The electromagnetic flux components are correlated to well known instantaneous powers. These powers are not clever mathematic expedients but correct expressions that mirror the actual physical phenomena and lead to a more realistic interpretation of apparent power and its resolution.

The paper presents a concept of an active filter with energy storage. This solution can be used for the compensation of momentary one phase high power loads with discontinued power consumption (e.g. spot welding machines). Apart from the typical filtering capabilities, the system’s task is also the continuity of the input power from the feeder line and limiting its fluctuation. The proposed by the author’s solution can produce measurable economic benefits by reducing the rated power necessary to energize periodically operating loads and improving the indicators of electrical energy quality. The developed method of active power surges compensation enables a flexible approach to requirements concerning the rated power of the point to which the periodically operating loads with high peak current value are connected. The tests were conducted on a simulation model specially developed in Matlab & Simulink environment, proving high effectiveness of the presented solution.

The paper deals with the analysis of voltage harmonics measurements performed in the 400 kV transmission network. The voltage was measured by means of three transducers: resistive voltage divider, inductive measuring transformer and capacitive voltage measuring transformer. Instrument errors were estimated for measuring transformers with reference to the harmonic values obtained from the voltage divider.
W artykule przedstawiono analizę wyników pomiarów wyższych harmonicznych napięcia, wykonanych w sieci przesyłowej 400 kV. Sygnały pomiarowe napięć uzyskano z trzech przetworników pomiarowych: rezystancyjnego dzielnika napięcia, napięciowego przekładnika indukcyjnego oraz napięciowego przekładnika pojemnościowego. Wyniki pomiarów z dzielnika rezystancyjnego przyjęto jako referencyjne, odnosząc do nich wyniki pomiarów uzyskane przy wykorzystaniu przekładników. Dokonano oszacowania błędów pomiarowych wyższych harmonicznych napięcia powodowanych przez przekładniki.

Increase of power electronic devices has resulted in current/voltage harmonic pollution in power systems. Harmonics have adverse effects on equipment with magnetic materials. This paper investigates effects of harmonics on inductors and proposes a new model for a non-linear frequency-dependent inductor. Tbe study is based on experiments in which inductors are subjected to sinusoidal inputs at different frequencies. The accuracy of the proposed formula is also investigated.

This paper presents the implementation of an active filter configuration for harmonic compensation. The system can be controlled for current harmonics and reactive power compensations simultaneously by using a converter operating as active shunt filter. A synchronous reference frame based controller is compared to an instantaneous reactive power based controller. The synchronous reference frame method is chosen to control the converter due to the better performance when the supply voltage is distorted. A shunt active filter system has been designed and built to meet IEEE 519 recommended harmonic standards. Simulation demonstrates the good performance of the active filter configuration. Experimental results, corresponding to the operation of the digital signal processor-controlled shunt active filter are also presented.

The article presents a new modification of the the least squares Prony method. The so-called variable-frequency Prony method can be a useful tool for estimating parameters of sinusoidal components, which, in the analyzed signal, are characterized by time-dependent frequencies. The authors propose use of the presented method for testing the quality of electric energy. It allows observation of phenomena which, when using traditional methods, are averaged in the analysis window. The proposed modification of least squares Prony method is based on introduction and specific selection of a frequency matrix. This matrix represents frequencies of estimated components and their variability in time.

Przedstawiono analizę wyników pomiarów wyższych harmonicznych napięcia wykonanych w sieci przesyłowej 400 kV. Sygnały pomiarowe napięć uzyskano z trzech przetworników pomiarowych: rezystancyjnego dzielnika napięcia, napięciowego przekładnika indukcyjnego oraz napięciowego przekładnika pojemnościowego. Wyniki pomiarów z dzielnika rezystancyjnego przyjęto jako referencyjne odnosząc do nich wyniki pomiarów uzyskane przy wykorzystaniu przekładników. Dokonano oszacowania błędów pomiarowych wyższych harmonicznych napięcia powodowanych przez przekładniki.

The capacity of storage systems can be determined using different methods most of which can be divided into either deterministic or stochastic. Deterministic methods are often complicated with numerous parameters and complex models for long term prediction often incorporating meteorological data. Stochastic methods use statistics for ESS (Energy Storage System) sizing, which is somewhat intuitive for dealing with the random element of wind speed variation. The proposed method in this paper performs stabilization of output power at one minute intervals to reduce the negative influence of the wind farm on the power grid in order to meet local regulations. This paper shows the process of sizing the ESS for two selected wind farms, based on their levels of variation in generated power and also, for each, how the negative influences on the power grid in the form of voltage variation and a shortterm flicker factor are decreased.

The aim of this paper is the application of selected time-varying power quality indices combined with detailed time-frequency analysis for assessment of transients in wind energy system. Presented proposition utilizes short-term harmonic distortion in voltage (STHDV) characteristic as an indicator for detail local time-frequency analysis of the transients. The paper deals with the influence of power quality indices: the voltage distortion, the voltage unbalance and the voltage dip in the mains on operation characteristics of an induction motor directly fed from both the source and the frequency converter, and their comparing. There are mainly investigated energy characteristics as motor efficiency and motor power factor depending on the motor load in the paper. It is also shown that permitted power quality levels of both the voltage distortion and unbalance, especially in the case of the controlled drive, does not influence the induction motor operation characteristics a lot.

W artykule przedstawiono metodę umożliwiającą estymację wybranych wskaźników jakości energii elektrycznej w zadanym punkcie sieci elektroenergetycznej na podstawie wskaźników jakości energii elektrycznej zarejestrowanych w punktach leżących w najbliższym otoczeniu. Do estymacji wykorzystano algorytmy sztucznych sieci neuronowych. W rezultacie uzyskano neuronowy model określający relację pomiędzy wskaźnikami jakości energii elektrycznej tego samego typu w sąsiadujących ze sobą punktach. W artkule przedstawiono wyniki analiz i testów dla rzeczywistych warunków pracy sieci dystrybucyjnej.
The article presents a method allowing the estimation of selected power quality indicators at a given point of the power grid based on electricity quality indicators (or other voltage parameters) registered at points in the nearest surroundings. Artificial neural network algorithms were used for the estimation. As a result, a neural model was obtained that determined the relationship between the same power quality indices at neighbouring points. The article presents the results obtained for the real conditions of the distribution network.

The considered shunt active power filter can be controlled not only to compensate non-active current in the supply source, but additionally to optimize energy flow between the source and the load. In such a case the filter shapes the source current to be active and simultaneously regulates its magnitude. The presented filter/buffer can operate properly even when the load contains AC or DC variable energy source of any characteristic. The device can optimize energy flow for a single load, but also for a group of loads as well. The distinctive feature of the employed control method of the filter/buffer is that certain changes of energy stored in the device are utilized as the source of information concerning the active current of the load. This control method is very flexible and can be implemented to nearly all structures of active filters, for DC, single- and multiphase circuits.

The paper presents an algorithm for detection of a complex envelope of power grid signals. The algorithm is based on a Hilbert transform. It was prepared for an analysis of a lowfrequency disturbances, but can also be used as a compex envelope source for other applications. An implementation of the algorithm in a digital signal processor was made to proof an ability of a realtime operation. Analyses with various numerical representations and input signal quantization were done. Execution times on a DSP were measured. Tests proved that the presented algorithm is able to analyze power grid signals in a real-time with satisfying performance and uncertainty.

The electric high speed railway loads supplied by the three phase power system represent one of the main sources of voltage unbalance perturbation in the grid. The power system configuration and (he load conditions influence the degree of this power quality perturbation. The present paper deals with the problems raised by the practical determination of the voltage unbalance factor in conformity with the European and IEEE standards. The procedure for identifying a vulnerability area in which the voltage unbalance presents values that exceed the standard limits is elaborated and comparison on the use of the two mentioned set of standards is performed. A case study referred to the 63 buses CJGRE network analyzed in the paper gives rise to interesting comments and discussion.

This paper introduces an alternative method for voltage sag source location based on voltage information only. The source is located considering the sag magnitude at the primary and secondary side of a transformer. A comprehensive review of previously proposed methods based on voltage and current measurements is presented. The performance of the proposed method is compared with the previous ones using PSCAD /EM TDC on a model of a regional network including transmission and sub-transmission levels. Moreover, the sag magnitude method is applied on a set of measurements taken from the regional network during a one year sag survey. The results show the good performance of the new method and its unique applicability in cases where only voltages are recorded, such as the sag survey presented.

Power quality disturbances have adverse impacts on the electric power supply as well as on the customer equipment. Therefore, the detection and classification of such problems is necessary. In this paper, a fast detection algorithm for power quality disturbances is presented. The proposed method is a hybrid of two algorithms, abc-0dq transformation and 90ırc phase shift algorithms. The proposed algorithm is fast and reliable in detecting most voltage disturbances in power systems such as voltage sags, voltage swells, voltage unbalance, interrupts, harmonics, etc. The three-phase utility voltages are sensed separately by each of the algorithms. These algorithms are combined to explore their individual strengths for a better performance. When a disturbance occurs, both algorithms work together to recognize this distortion. This control method can be used for critical loads protection in case of utility voltage distortion. Simulation and analysis results obtained in this study illustrate high performance of the strategy in different single-phase and three-phase voltage distortions.

In this paper, a low kilo-volt-ampere rating zigzag connected autotransformer based 36-pulse rectifier system supplying vector controlled induction motor drives (VCIMD) is designed, modeled and simulated. Detailed design procedure and magnetic rating calculation of the proposed autotransformer and interphase reactor is studied. Moreover, the design process of the autotransformer is modified to make it suitable for retrofit applications. Simulation results confirm that the proposed 36-pulse rectifier system is able to suppress less than 35th harmonics in the utility line current. The influence of load variation and load character is also studied to demonstrate the performance and effectiveness of the proposed 36-pulse rectifiers. A set of power quality indices at AC mains and DC link are presented to compare the performance of 6-, 24- and 36-pulse AC-DC converters.

The wavelet transform has been successfully used in the area of power quality analysis. There are many published papers with methods for power quality disturbance classification or harmonics measurement, which use wavelet transform. However, the properties of the wavelet transform can drastically vary from the choice of the wavelet. In this paper we analyze the influence of the choice of the wavelet to the accuracy of the power quality classification method and to high frequency harmonics measurements. Additionally to the well known wavelet filters we introduce near perfect reconstruction filter banks. The simulation results indicate that these filter banks are a good choice for classification of power quality disturbances, especially in the presence of noise and for high frequency harmonics measurements.

This paper presents the fundamental properties and dependences describing the UPQC (Unified Power Quality Conditioner) arrangements. The UPQC devices simultaneously permit to fulfill the following functions: voltage and current harmonics compensation, network voltage and load current symmetrization as well as network voltage stabilization and power flow control. The selected results of the experimental investigations conducted on the small power laboratory model have been described. Applied method for DC link capacity selection was talked over in details and confirmed with experimental results. Results of experimental investigations, including operation of the UPQC arrangement in case of thyristor rectifier load were also introduced.

Voltage flicker caused by the electric arc furnace (EAF) and the mitigation using the superconducting synchronous condenser (SuperVAR) by the American Superconductor Corp. are considered in this paper. The modeling of EAF, SuperVAR and the system used are discussed. Fast reactive power support to reduce voltage flicker problem by an EAF is desirable. The voltage fluctuation amplitude is used as an index to evaluate the effectiveness of SuperVAR for two different MVar levels. At the PCC (point of common coupling) bus, the application of the SuperVAR can improve the voltage flicker by 6% and 19% by applying DC1A type and AC4A type exciter to the SuperVAR. With an DC1A type exciter, the SuperVAR can output only between +1 and -2 MVAR and with an AC4A type exciter the SuperVAR can provide its full rated power (8MVAR) to the system, making the voltage flicker a less severe.

This paper describes the sliding discrete Fourier transform (DFT) algorithm as an alternative for typical DFT used for spectrum analysis and synthesis. As an example a control circuit for a three-phase 75 kVA parallel active power filter (APF) is used. Such filters have been built and tested. Some illustrative, experimental results are also presented in the paper. The control algorithms of the proposed APF are implemented in the fixed-point digital signal processor TMS320C50. The presented control APF algorithm is a good alternative to classical APF control algorithms, because it allows easy selection of control parameters in mains currents: imbalance, reactive power or harmonics contents. In the proposed circuit transient performance of APF is improved using non-causal predictive current compensation.

Kamery termowizyjne okazują się być bardzo skutecznymi narzędziami diagnostycznymi w elektroenergetyce. Coraz częściej wykorzystuje się je do bezdotykowych pomiarów stanu urządzeń elektroenergetycznych w stacjach transformatorowych, rozdzielniach itd. Na podstawie otrzymanych obrazów termowizyjnych można ocenić stan urządzeń tam znajdujących się. Czy również takie obrazy termowizyjne mogą posłużyć do oceny jakości energii elektrycznej w wybranym punkcie systemu elektroenergetycznego? Otóż okazuje się, że jak najbardziej. W artykule zaprezentowano zasady przeprowadzania pomiarów oraz wyniki pomiarów kamerą termowizyjną, w postaci obrazów termowizyjnych i ich analizę pod kątem oceny jakości energii elektrycznej w wybranych punktach systemu elektroenergetycznego. Otrzymywane, w bardzo szybki, bezdotykowy i w sumie tani sposób obrazy termograficzne mogą być wskazaniem do przeprowadzenia dalszych, bardziej zaawansowanych pomiarów w zakresie jakości energii elektrycznej.
Thermal imaging cameras prove to be an effective diagnostic instruments in the electric power engineering. These cameras are used more and more frequently in taking touchless measurements of the state of electric power devices in transformer stations, distribution points, etc. On the basis of the received thermal images, it is possible to evaluate the condition of the devices which are located there. Are such images able to serve in the evaluation of the electrical energy quality at the given point of the electric power system? The answer proves to be in the affirmative. In the article, the principles and the results of measurements that have been taken with the thermal imaging camera are presented. The results are delivered as thermal images and their analysis is provided on the basis of the electric power quality at given points of the electric power system. The results, which have been achieved in a quick, touchless and overall inexpensive way, might be an indication to take further, more advanced measurements in the area of electric power quality.

W celu zmniejszenia tętnień napięcia wyprostowanego stosowane są filtry pojemnościowe. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki analizy napięcia w węźle, z którego są zasilane: odbiornik przez prostownik z filtrem pojemnościowym oraz inne odbiorniki zasilane napięciem przemiennym. Przy wykorzystaniu autorskiego programu wyznaczono przebieg napięcia oraz jego widmo amplitudowe dla przyjętych wartości współczynnika tętnień. Dla wybranego okresu w stanie ustalonym przedstawiono zależność amplitud wybranych harmonicznych od pojemności filtru, wyznaczonej przez wymaganą wartość współczynnika tętnień.
A pulsatory voltage is generated at the rectifier output. Capacitance filters are often used in order to lower the voltage pulsation. There was determined the voltage amplitude change in time in the node from which a load is supplied through a rectifier with the capacitance filter (Fig. 1) [2]. The program written in the Matlab environment was used for it. For the selected voltage period in the steady state, there was determined the voltage amplitude spectrum for different values of the voltage pulsation factor at the rectifier output (Figs. 2 and 3). The developed program also allows calculating the timing of changes in the rectifier operating status. The analysed period of voltage changes in time was divided into subperiods corresponding to the consecutive cycles of charging and discharging the filter capacitor, during which the voltage in the supply node could be described by the equation (2) or (3). Using the equations (6) and (7), the amplitudes of each harmonic for the given circuit parameters were calculated and their dependence on the voltage pulsation factor at the rectifier output was determined (Figs. 5, 6, 7, 8). The presented equations and analysis results enable selecting the appropriate parameter values already at the stage of circuit design, so that the proper voltage quality is provided.

The paper presents structure and experimental results of the control system of the PWM rectifier with active filtering function. Proposed control system was designed for maximum filtering performance in steady state. This task is realized by predictive algorithms applied for both control as well as calculation of grid currents. Accuracy of these algorithms strongly depends on precise information about future samples of equivalent electromotive force of the grid, which is in general distorted and unbalanced. For this purpose, a novel estimator and predictor is proposed. The control of DC voltage is realized with application of variable gain PI controller. It ensures high dynamics in transient states and low gain for steady state oscillations of DC voltage. Proposed control system is AC voltages sensor less and has excellent active filtering performance, even at presence of grid voltage distortions.

Sensitive equipment and non-linear loads are now more common in both the industrial/commercial sectors and the domestic environment. Because of this a heightened awareness of power quality is developing amongst electricity users. Therefore, power quality is an issue that is becoming increasingly important to electricity consumers at all levels of usage. This article presents the fuzzy system to determine the power quality. The performance of three-phase induction motor is observed for different power quality conditions in laboratory. The power quality is in terms of voltage is intentionally disturbed by means of three-phase motor alternator set and chopper circuit. It is observed that the fuzzy system is able to make correct diagnosis of power quality. It is also observed that as the power quality become poor, the motor efficiency decreases, causing significant rise in power input to meet the rated load demand, and thereby rise in electric bill.

Baterie kondensatorów są podstawą ekonomicznej pracy systemów zawierających odbiorniki rezystancyjnocyjne. Ponieważ obecnie podobnie często spotykane są odbiorniki nieliniowe, na skutek zaburzeń elektromagnetycznych, pojawiają się nowe rodzaje ryzyka, zarówno wewnątrz, jak i w otoczeniu baterii kondensatorów. W artykule omówiono warunki pracy baterii kondensatorów, zainstalowanych w stacji transformatorowo-rozdzielczej zakładu przemysłowego, pod kątem zgodności z Rozporządzeniem Ministra Gospodarki, z dnia 4 maja 2007 r. w sprawie szczegółowych warunków funkcjonowania systemu elektroenergetycznego.
This paper reviews and presents the findings of voltage disturbances analysis that has an effect on the operatin condition of automatic capacitor banks, installed at industrial plant substation, and the consequences on their exploitation and lifetime, such as: voltage variation, voltage sags and interruptions, voltage unbalance in three-phase systems, power frequency deviation and voltage harmonics.

It is common to find the inexpensive but robust electric power rectification method to lullil the demands of clean power conversion [1-12]. The Vienna rectifier structure [1] is one of the hopeful construction to fulfil these demands. It may be classified as the Clean Power Converter. It lets us obtain PFC rectification in simpler than the PWM converter system. The \ inina rectifier has three control points. In addition the Vienna rectifier is the three voltage level system with less current ripples than in the case of the PWM converter. However, it has some disadvantages. The Vienna rectifier system is an unidirectional converter. It can function onlv in the rectifier mode, the working in the inverter mode is impossible and the generation of the reactive power is strongly restricted. Usually the Vienna rectifier is controlled on the basis of the direct current control method [4,5,6]. However, this method is not perfect because it lets the improper control sequences appears. In this paper the mathematical model of the Vienna rectifier is derived. The voltage space vectors and their dependencies to the phase currents are denned. The range of the phase displacement angle and the maximum voltage space vector module v. phase displacement angle is drawn out for the case of the sinusoidal space vector modulation. The drawn out relations are proven by simulation results.

A laboratory model of the PCS and its test results have been presented.

Measuring instruments, measurement methods, and an exemplary analysis of the impact of chosen operating stages of the converter drive on the power supply network have been presented. The measurements of electrical and mechanical parameters in drive systems used in industry are complex. The task is difficult due to the necessity of connecting a measuring instrument into electric circuits of an active facility with the use of only short non-operational periods of the device. However, a wellchosen model of a drive system allows the multivariate research of the impact of drive parameters and a control algorithm used on voltage and current harmonic content and performance of the system, and therefore on a simulation analysis of the impact of the drive on the power supply network.

W pracy przedstawiono metodykę i wyniki pomiarów stanów nieustalonych w instalacjach zasilających niskiego napięcia (nn) dwóch wybranych zakładów przemysłowych. Dodatkowo podano zestawienie rejestracji stanów przepięciowych towarzyszących zwarciom po stronie średniego napięcia (SN) zmierzonych poprzez przekładniki napięciowe przyłączone do szyn SN w stacji transformatorowej dwustronnie zasilanej. We wszystkich przypadkach uzyskiwano dane wystarczające dla określenia poprawności doboru odporności urządzeń zawierających wyposażenie elektroniczne do poziomu przepięć występujących w instalacji.
The paper presents methods of measurement and some records of transients in LV networks supplying two selected industrial plants. Additionally, records of overvoltages via the voltage instrument transformer in the MV two-side-supplied transformer station due to short-circuits have been presented. In all cases, the acquired data are sufficient for proper selection of immunity of appliances equipped with electronic devices to overvoltages occurring in real networks.

This paper presents a new modification of the least-squares Prony’s method with reduced sampling, which allows for a significant reduction in the number of the analysed signal samples collected per unit time. The specific combination of non-uniform sampling with Prony’s method enables sampling of the analysed signals at virtually any average frequency, regardless of the Nyquist frequency, maintaining high accuracy in parameter estimation of sinusoidal signal components. This property allows using the method in measuring devices, such as for electric power quality testing equipped with low power signal processors, which in turn contributes to reducing complexity of these devices. This paper presents research on a method for selecting a sampling frequency and an analysis window length for the presented method, which provide maximum estimation accuracy for Prony’s model component parameters. This paper presents simulation tests performed in terms of the proposed method application for analysis of harmonics and interharmonics in electric power signals. Furthermore, the paper provides sensitivity analysis of the method, in terms of common interferences occurring in the actual measurement systems.

Electric vehicles (EVs) play a significant role in a gradual shift towards low-carbon society. However, the impact of electromobility on a power system includes different power quality problems that need to be mitigated. Power Quality Analyzer SONEL PQM-700 was used for the measurement and analysis of the power quality parameters during slow charging (at ̴11A, ̴8,3 A and ̴5,5 A) of a BMW i3 electric vehicle. The read-out mode of the device was considered. The state of EV charge was 30%. The measurements focused on the values of supply voltage, drawn current, harmonics, values of active, reactive and apparent power. In this study, type 2 connector was used to charge the EV. The power quality parameters during the BMW i3 charging were within limits, not a single parameter was exceeded. Additionally, the current state of electric vehicle charging methods and EV charging infrastructure was described and power conditioning solutions were presented.

Opis:
In this paper, an algorithm that monitors the power system to detect and classify power quality events in real time is presented. The algorithm is able to detect events caused by waveform distortions and variations of the RMS values of the voltage. Detection of the RMS events is done by comparing the RMS values with certain thresholds, while detection of waveform distortions is made using an algorithm based on multiharmonic leasts-squares fitting.

Growing popularity of distributed generation is drawing special attention to communication technologies in smart power grids. This paper provides a detailed overview of the communication protocols utilized in the modern distributed grid laboratory. It describes both wired and wireless technologies used in Smart Grid and presents the remote operation of switching the subsystem from grid mode to island mode operating under nominal conditions. It shows the duration of power outages during a transfer to island mode with diesel generator running on idle - which simulates planned islanding and diesel generator stationary, which simulates unplanned islanding. Latency between registration of disturbance and executing control command is measured. The results obtained are compared with current legislation. The consequences to the power system that are possible in both scenarios are highlighted. Obtained results and description of the communication technologies can be useful for the design of distributed power grids, island-mode power grids, and Smart Grids, as well as for further research in the area of using combustion fuel generators as a primary power supply in the microgrid.

Smart Grid is increasingly seen as a means to facilitate climate friendly renewable energy sources (renewables) and to enable efficient use of electricity. For example, modern electrical networks can link wind- and solar power with electric cars. A consequence of Smart Grid is a drastic increase in use of electronics in the power system. This makes the satisfactory function of electrical and electronic equipment vital for realization of a robust Smart Grid. This paper focuses on the satisfactory function of equipment for Smart Grid with respect to electromagnetic disturbances, i.e. EMC – Electromagnetic Compatibility including Power Quality. Finally, a framework for the apportioning of responsibilities between network operators and the parties being responsible for the connection of equipment is proposed.

In the paper the analysis of a three-phase hybrid active power filter stability has been presented. Configuration with a single tuned passive filter was used as an example. However, the analysis can be applied to similar configurations of hybrid filters with closed loop control. The article presents a model of the analyzed system in the frequency domain. The division of the model into two independent systems, for positive and negative components, allowed to apply the Nyquist criterion for the stability analysis in this case. As a part of the analysis, the effect of delays, control signal filter parameters, and passive filter parameters have been examined. Based on the presented stability analysis, system parameters for the experimental model of a hybrid power filter have been selected. Finally, experimental results confirming the validity of the analysis have been shown.

Standardization has contributed significantly to comparable analysis methods for power quality parameters. However, in order to have undisputable results, the measurement values themselves should also be comparable. This can only be achieved by traceability to international measurement standards. For this reason, at VSL, the Dutch national metrology institute, a fully traceable reference setup was developed for calibration of power quality analyzers. In this paper, we show the calibration results of the critical components of the reference setup, we demonstrate its applicability by test measurements on the public low-voltage supply system for specific parameters, and show its ability to simulate and generate events that can be detected and analyzed by both the equipment under test and the reference setup.
