Opis:
In response to the inability of the flexible DC transmission system connected to the AC grid under conventional control strategies to provide inertia to the system as well as to participate in frequency regulation, a virtual synchronous generator (VSG) control strategy is proposed for a voltage source converter (VSC)-based multi-terminal high-voltage direct current (VSC-MTDC) interconnection system. First, the virtual controller module is designed by coupling AC frequency and active power through virtual inertia control, so that the VSC-MTDC system can provide inertia response for AC grid frequency. Second, by introducing the power margin of the converter station into the droop coefficient, the unbalanced power on the DC side is reasonably allocated to reduce the overshoot of the DC voltage in the regulation process. Finally, the power regulation capability of the normal AC system is used to provide power support to the fault end system, reducing frequency deviations and enabling inter-regional resource complementation. The simulation model of the three-terminal flexible DC grid is built in PSCAD/EMTDC, and the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is verified by comparing the conventional control strategy and the additional frequency control strategy.

The thermoelectric cooler (TEC) and thermoelectric generator (TEG) modules have several appealing features, including fixed parts, high reliability, low maintenance costs, and seamless connection with other heating equipment, accompaniment, can be powered by a variety of low-energy renewable energy sources such as solar water/air collectors, ground heat exchangers or heat from biomass. The thermoelectric assembly was integrated into the TEC using the TEG in this study. A prototype was developed in which recently developed thermoelectric modules were integrated into a thermoelectric cooler. For this purpose, a TEC sandwiched between two TEGs with different heat transfer conditions was established, to simulate the heat transfer and thermoelectric behavior of both the TEG and the TEC system, and evaluate the effect of the combined TEG-TEC on the performance parameters of the good system by comparing different cooling modes ranging from natural convection, forced convection, and water-cooling tests. It was shown that to the natural convection of heat transfer, as the TEC voltage increases, the hot surface temperature of the upper TEG increases, and the cold surface temperature of the lower TEG decreases, where the lowest TEC temperature reaches 1.36 A. When using forced convection (by using a fan), the temperature profile decreases over time, starting at around 70 °C for 7V, and after almost 60 minutes, the temperature drops to around 45 °C for 3V. This turned out to be a match between experiment and theory in all traces shown, with a voltage difference of 25 mV for 3V TEC and ending at 70 mV for 8V TEC.

Opis:
The problem of large speed loss exists in the traditional passing through the electric phase-separation method of trains, which is more prominent when trains pass through an electric phase-separation zone in the uphill section of long ramps and may lead to the trains not passing through the phase-separation zone safely. In order to solve this problem, based on the energy storage type railroad power conditioner, a train uninterrupted phase-separation passing system based on the energy storage type railroad power conditioner is proposed. The energy storage railroad power conditioner can realize the recovery and utilization of regenerative braking energy of the electrified railroad. In the structure of the energy storage railroad power conditioner, the single-phase inverter is led from the middle DC side of the energy storage railroad power conditioner and connected to the neutral line through the LCL filter and the step-up transformer, which constitutes an uninterrupted phase separation passing system. The single-phase inverter is controlled using virtual synchronous generator technology, which allows the single-phase inverter to have external characteristics similar to those of a synchronous generator, providing support for the voltage and frequency in the neutral zone. The power required by the train to pass the electric phase-separation is provided by the power supply arm or the energy storage system, which not only improves the utilization rate of regenerative braking energy but also realizes the uninterrupted phase separation passing of the train through the control of the voltage in the neutral region.

Opis:
Low-temperature heat sources have become increasingly popular in recent years, particularly for energy generation. The majority of thermal devices in the market (including devices using solar energy, geothermal energy, waste energy, and so on) transform heat into electricity indirectly, requiring mechanical work before producing power. Through the Seebeck effect, the technology that employs a thermoelectric generator (TEG) may directly transform heat energy into electricity. The TEG technology provides several advantages, including compactness, quietness, and the absence of moving components. TEGs have a low thermal and electrical efficiency, which is one of their main drawbacks. Therefore, the performance of a thermoelectric generator is improved by employing liquid evaporation heat transfer in this manuscript. The performance of the thermoelectric was examined experimentally and compared to the liquid evaporation mode under varied heat flux values and different modes of heat transfer in terms of free and forced convection with and without fins. The experimental results revealed that when compared to free convection without fins, adopting forced liquid evaporation convection would improve TEG voltage variation by 435.9%.

In this paper, we describe the development and design procedure of the new kind of coaxial TEm,1 modes generator based on ring resonator with coupling apertures. The generator enables excitation of subsequent TEm,1 modes in a cylindrical waveguide. The proposed design method allows to obtain high purity TEm,1 modes. The angular mode number can be chosen by replacing the plate with coupling apertures. Structure and parameters of the generator was optimized using CST-Microwave Studio. The mode generator was fabricated and checked on the test bench in an anechoic chamber. The measured field distributions confirm excitation of the desired TEm,1 modes. A good agreement between simulations and measurements is obtained. The presented mode generator, operating in non-rotating TEm,1 modes, is easy to fabricate, and suitable for cold-test experiments of high power components and devices.

Opis:
This paper proposes a system design and control technique for a newly developed brushless and permanent magnetless synchronous generator-based variable-speed wind energy generation system, transferring power to a constant voltage dc grid via a three-level Vienna rectifier (VR). The recently established generator named Brushless Induction excited Synchronous Generator (BINSYG) is a wound field synchronous generator (WFSG), whose excitation is developed by controlling an Induction Machine fitted to the same machine structure and sharing the same magnetic core. A new controller is proposed that ensures the stable operation of BINSYG for a wide variation of shaft speeds. VR achieves sinusoidal input current and can control the power factor at its input, which is particularly suitable for wind energy applications. The top and bottom capacitor voltages of the VR are balanced using redundant switching combinations. The system with its proposed control algorithm is modelled in MATLAB/Simulink for a 5 kW rated BINSYG feeding power to a 750 V dc grid. The steady-state and dynamic state simulation results are presented and the controller performance is verified for a wide range of wind speeds. Further, real-time results using the OPAL-RT testbed are presented for the same system to verify the effectiveness of the overall control strategy.

Opis:
Purpose: The purpose of the article is to present a reactive power compensation for small hydropower plants with an induction generator. The classic compensation with capacitors is discussed and its improvement is proposed. Instead of capacitors, a three level power electronic converter connected in parallel to the induction generator can be used to provide reactive power compensation. The purpose of the paper is to present the developed structure of an active compensator and its control method. The developed control method was verified on a laboratory stand. The project and the methods: As part of research, an active compensator was built as a three-level power electronic converter in topology with Neutral Point Clamped. Laboratory tests of a converter compensator were carried out on a stand equipped with an induction generator with a power of 7.5 kW. Laboratory system measurements were made using a power analyzer and an oscilloscope. Results: A control structure of an active compensator based on a voltage-oriented method was presented and discussed. The operation of the converter compensator has been verified on a laboratory stand equipped with a 7.5 kW induction generator. The compensator current reduces the reactive (inductive) component of the current consumed from a power grid to a value equal to zero. The reactive power compensator ensures that the tgφ power factor is maintained at a set value of zero, which corresponds to the total compensation of inductive reactive power consumed by an induction generator working in a hydropower plant. Operation of the active compensator did not cause a significant increase in the harmonic content in the current consumed from the power grid. Conclusions: The paper presents the issues regarding reactive power compensation in hydropower plants with induction generators. Commonly used capacitor compensation has been covered and as a result, it is proposed to replace it with power electronics converter compensation of reactive power connected in parallel induction generators. Active compensator provides compensation for the entire reactive power consumed by the induction generator. The use of the converter compensator of reactive power significantly contributes to the reduction of costs for reactive power incurred by the owners of hydropower plants. The reactive power compensator also has a positive impact on the operation of the entire power grid, power losses from the reactive component of the current on the impedances of power grid components are limited.
Cel: Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie zagadnień kompensacji mocy biernej w małych elektrowniach wodnych wyposażonych w generatory indukcyjne. Omówiono pasywną kondensatorową kompensację mocy biernej i zaproponowano zastąpienie jej przekształtnikowym aktywnym układem kompensacji przyłączonym równolegle do generatora indukcyjnego. Opracowana struktura przekształtnikowego kompensatora oraz metoda jego sterowania zostały zweryfikowane na stanowisku laboratoryjnym. Projekt i metody: Zbudowano aktywny kompensator mocy biernej, w skład którego wchodzi przekształtnik energoelektroniczny wykonany w topologii trójpoziomowej z diodami poziomującymi przyłączonymi z punktem neutralnym. Badania laboratoryjne aktywnego kompensatora przeprowadzono na generatorze indukcyjnym o mocy 7,5 kW. Pomiary parametrów pracy przekształtnikowego kompensatora wykonano przy wykorzystaniu analizatora jakości energii i oscyloskopu. Wyniki: Przedstawiono i omówiono układ sterowania aktywnego kompensatora bazujący na zmodyfikowanej metodzie zorientowanej napięciowo. Działanie kompensatora zostało zweryfikowane na stanowisku laboratoryjnym wyposażonym w generator indukcyjny o mocy 7,5 kW. Prąd kompensatora zmniejsza składową bierną (indukcyjną) prądu pobieranego z sieci do wartości bliskiej lub równej zero. Aktywny kompensator mocy biernej zapewnia utrzymanie współczynnika mocy tgφ na poziomie 0, co odpowiada całkowitej kompensacji mocy biernej indukcyjnej pobieranej przez generator elektrowni wodnej. Praca aktywnego kompensatora nie powoduje znacznego wzrostu zawartości harmonicznych w prądzie pobieranym z sieci elektroenergetycznej. Wnioski: W artykule przedstawiono zagadnienia kompensacji mocy biernej w elektrowniach wodnych z generatorami indukcyjnymi. Zaproponowano zastąpienie tradycyjnych metod kompensacji kompensatorem aktywnym przyłączonym równolegle do generatora indukcyjnego.

The present paper describes a new architecture of a high-voltage solid-state pulse generator. This generator combines the two types of energy storage systems: inductive and capacitive, and consequently operates two types of switches: opening and closing. For the opening switch, an isolated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) was chosen due to its interesting characteristics in terms of controllability and robustness. For the closing switch, two solutions were tested: spark-gap (SG) for a powerful low-cost solution and avalanche mode bipolar junction transistor (BJT) for a fully semiconductor structure. The new architecture has several advantages: simple structure and driving system, high and stable controllable repetition rate that can reach 1 kHz, short rising time of a few nanoseconds, high gain and efficiency, and low cost. The paper starts with the mathematical analysis of the generator operation followed by numerical simulation of the device. Finally add a comma the results were confirmed by the experimental test with a prototype generator. Additionally, a comparative study was carried out for the classical SG versus the avalanche mode BJT working as a closing switch.
