    Opis:
    Communion is a new form of business management that organizes help for people living in poverty, with the aim to reduce poverty and social inequality. The idea proposed in 1991 by Chiara Lubich among members of the worldwide Focolare Movement gained many supporters, and is implemented in 800 companies in several countries. Key questions are whether and how to help; identifying common causes of poverty – especially lack of appropriate interpersonal relationships – are ways out of poverty and social exclusion. Communion requires the involvement of not only entrepreneurs, but also business stakeholders, and creates new elements of organizational culture. Via a comparative analysis of the economy of communion with the social economy and corporate social responsibility, I examine the convergence of economy of communion with the Church’s social teaching.

    Opis:
    The article attempts to show the high status of ecclesial infrastructures in their work for the family. It reminds selected forms of the Church’s work in communities of special care serving the family, and points to the potential of support groups in resisting poverty and social exclusion of families; it also mentions contemporary examples of ecclesial networks. In the space of eighteen centuries ecclesial institutions were the main, and in a greater part of the period the only, current of aid to the family not only in the spiritual dimension, but also in many other ones – to mention the social, economic or medical areas only. No institution in our cultural circle has so much experience in supporting a man’s development both on the individual and social level as the Catholic Church. The Christian doctrine on charity determined the communities of the faithful to establish institutions supporting the development of man, and in modern terminology, centers for fighting poverty and social exclusion. Too little is done to point to Christian roots of accompanying a man in various aspects of his life.

    Opis:
    Jednym z głównych celów Strategii Europa 2020 jest zmniejszenie rozmiarów ubóstwa i wykluczenia społecznego w Unii Europejskiej. Stosowany dotychczas w badaniach porównawczych pomiędzy krajami członkowskimi UE podstawowy sposób mierzenia ubóstwa wskaźnikiem „stopy ryzyka zagrożenia ubóstwem” (at-risk poverty rate) był przedmiotem powszechnej krytyki. W związku z tym w Strategii Europa 2020 wprowadzono jako headline indicator nowy wskaźnik sumaryczny „ludność zagrożona ubóstwem i wykluczeniem społecznym” (peole living at-risk of poverty and social exclusion). Celem niniejszego opracowania jest prezentacja tego wskaźnika oraz ocena czy zastosowany w Strategii Europa 2020 nowy sposób mierzenia tej kwestii społecznej pozwala na uzyskanie bardziej adekwatnego do rzeczywistości obrazu sytuacji.
    One of the major objectives of the 2020 Europe Strategy is reducing the size of poverty and social exclusion in the European Union. The hitherto used – in comparative researches within the EU member countries – method of measuring poverty with at-risk poverty rate has been much criticized. Therefore, in the 2020 Europe Strategy people living at-risk and social exclusion headline indicator has been implemented. The purpose of this paper is to present this indicator and assess whether the newly applied method of measuring this social issue within the 2020 Europe Strategy allows to gain such perception of the situation that might be more adequate to the currently existing one.

    Opis:
    Artykuł zawiera dwie perspektywy ubóstwa i wykluczenia: globalną i polską. W perspektywie globalnej ubóstwo i wykluczenie dotyka wprawdzie całe regiony i kontynenty, ale jego ofiarami są: mniejszości, ludzie marginesu, ludzie pozbawieni wykształcenia i instrumentów zaradności psychicznej i rzeczowej. Cenną wartością poznawczą jest konstatacja, że ubóstwo i wykluczenie dotyka te kraje i regiony, które poddały się dyktatowi ideologii neoliberalnej. Polska, niestety, także ugrzęzła w okowach tej chorej ekonomicznie i społecznie strategii rozwoju. Na domiar złego mamy bardzo niewydolny system pomocy społecznej i opieki socjalnej. Rezultatem takich okoliczności jest to, iż polscy ludzie marginesu i ubóstwa są pozbawieni szans i będą dziedziczyć swoje wykluczenie i ubóstwo przez pokolenia. Źródłem i skutkiem takiej sytuacji jest to, iż największą grupą ubogich są w Polsce dzieci.
    This paper deals with the issues of poverty and poverty-related exclusion on two levels: the global and the Polish. Even though on the global scale poverty and social exclusion afflict large areas and whole continents, the worst affected are generally found among members of various minority, disadvantaged and marginal groups, people with minimal or no formal education as well as the ones lacking in mental and material resourcefulness. It seems a valuable insight to point out that poverty and social exclusion afflict these countries and regions that yielded to the dictate of a neoliberal ideology. Poland, unfortunately, found herself among the countries under the stranglehold of this hapless strategy of economic and social development. On top of that we are smitten by a rather ineffective social welfare and security system. As a result of these factors in Poland those who may be counted among the members of marginalised and impoverished groups see themselves bereft of opportunities and will pass down poverty and social exclusion from generation to generation. Primary source as well as effect of this condition is the fact, that the most numerous group of impoverished persons in Poland are children

    In this article the concept of dialogue will be related to its quite narrow meaning. It will be understood as the conversation of the Church’s representatives (i.e. John Paul II, Benedict XVI) about social exclusion. This dialogue will be conducted between the eternal truths of the Christian faith codified as the Holy Bible, the dogma’s of the Christian faith, of Christian ethics and the modern world, in which pathologic phenomena, occurrences of social injustice lead to social exclusion (an exclusion nowadays considered a category of public activity, including the problems of poverty, unemployment, homelessness, social inequity) of the people of various continents.

    Od początku lat 90. socjologowie z Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego prowadzą wielowymiarowe badania biedy i wykluczenia społecznego. W latach 1997–1999, w ramach projektów „Formy ubóstwa i zagrożeń społecznych i ich przestrzenne rozmieszczenie w Łodzi” (1997–1999) oraz „The Social Cost of Economic Transformation in Central Europe: Social History of Poverty in Central Europe – The Polish Case” (1999), przeprowadzono wywiady typu family life histories z trzema generacjami rodzin wspieranych przez pomoc społeczną. W PRL-u narratorzy reprezentujący „podstawową” generację badanych (40–50-latkowie) zaliczani byli do klasy robotniczej i reprezentowali zbiorowość, którą w pewnym sensie określić można mianem „beneficjentów socjalizmu”. W okresie realizacji badań przeżywali oni traumatyczne trajektorie wywołane przez procesy pauperyzacyjne. W artykule powracamy do danych sprzed prawie 20. lat i przedstawiamy biograficzne doświadczenia narratorów w odniesieniu do ich subiektywnego rozumienia procesu transformacji. W ostatniej części artykułu odwołujemy się do badań powtórzonych, przeprowadzonych w latach 2008–2010, wskazujemy na makrostrukturalne uwarunkowania losów badanych rodzin i na czynniki znaczące dla podtrzymywania błędnego koła biedy i marginalizacji społecznej.
    Since 1990 the sociologists from the University of Lodz have been conducting multidimensional analyses of poverty and social exclusion. In 1997-1999, within the framework of two projects, “The Social Cost of Economic Transformation in Central Europe—Social History of Poverty in Central Europe” and “Forms of Poverty and Social Risks and Their Spatial Distribution in Lodz,” family life histories of 3 generations of the families supported by social welfare agencies were collected. In Polish People’s Republic, the narrators from the generation named “the basic” (40-50 years old) belonged to the working class and—in a sense—represented the collectivity of socialism beneficiaries; at the moment of the research they were experiencing traumatic trajectories of unexpected impoverishment. In the paper, we are coming back to the data from 1990 and discuss biographical experiences of narrators within the context of their understanding of transition process. In the last part of the article, some results of the follow-up study conducted in 2008-2010 are presented with the notion to the macrostructural conditionings of family life histories and factors decisive to the vicious circle of poverty and social exclusion.
