Opis:
Clay pots were in antiquity the most popular kind of transport container for liquid goods (wine, olive oil etc.). In Egypt, the commonly used traditional amphoras were supplemented in the Islamic period by mostly unhandled bag-shaped bottles, which until recently did not seem to have been particularly frequent in the archaeological record. Meanwhile, excavations in Fustat and Naqlun produced quite a sizable assemblage of this kind of vessels. The paper presents a tentative typology of these containers and a provisional determination of the liquid goods transported in them. The author hypothesizes on the reasons behind the spectacular career of the bottle apparently inspired by vessels of the LRA 5/6 type, which totally replaced the traditional LRA 7 amphora within just a hundred or two hundred years. The most important factor in this process of change may have involved practical considerations (including economical ones).

Opis:
Results of multidisciplinary research conducted on the island of Rab (Northeastern Adriatic, Croatia) are presented with particular focus on late Roman rural settlements and their economic activities. The settlement in Podšilo bay, Lopar peninsula, is analyzed in more detail, providing evidence on a vibrant local community engaged in diversified craft activities and the exploitation of local land and marine resources. Along with the specificities of its layout and organization, this site also presents unique possibilities to study environmental factors that influenced its setup and economy, but also its demise, tentatively placed within the 6th century AD.

Opis:
An analysis of pottery production in ancient Phoenicia reveals not only the land division into city-states in Hellenistic times, but also the blending in individual periods of the multifarious cultural influences reaching in from the western coast of Asia Minor, the Aegean, North African coast and Italy. The native Phoenician tradition clearly loses in significance with the arrival of the Romans in the East.

Neolithic flint production
Opis:
The flint objects obtained during the excavations were mainly linked to the four cultural units from the Neolithic: the Linear Pottery culture, the Lengyel culture, the Malice culture and the Modlnica culture. The majority of them were deposited in the fill of the archaeological features. The basis for dating the latter were the characteristic features of the pottery material found in them. The composition of the sets of individual taxonomic units is similar. The group of part-processed materials with a higher percentage of flakes is dominant. The treatment of previously prepared blocks was carried out in the site. The relatively high number of various tools, from 12% in the case of the Linear Pottery culture to 25% in the inventories of the Lengyel and Modlnica cultures, should be pointed out.
