Opis:: The present report was prepared within the framework of research activities carried out in the Maritime Institute in Gdansk, when taking part in the international research project EUREKA E! 3065 INCOWATRANS, the goal of which was working out preliminary designs of new-generation ships for inland and coastal navigation, and preparing technical and economic structure for the revitalisation of inland waterways in Poland, with their further incorporation to the European transportation system. The article aims at analysing the present state and assessing the future potential of cargo routes observed in inland East-West water transport, i.e. between Poland and Western Europe countries.

Opis:: The aim of this article is to analyze the tourism potential in the riverside areas of selected cities in Lubuskie Voivodeship located in the Oder River valleys. The research issue of the article was defined as a way to measure tourist potential in the development of riverside areas. In the research phase, based on the comparative multi-criteria method, special attention was paid to the accessibility of the river for the inhabitants, their usefulness for the recreation, as well as the location of the recreational infrastructures in the river valleys. The presence of infrastructure using the river's potential is marginal in the shoreline zone of the cities under analysis. Despite the rapid growth of tourist activities its river potential is still being marginalised. The research problem was to determine the tourist potential of selected cities and to identify the cities with the greatest potential, in which the advisability of investment seems to be the most relevant and necessary. The result of considerations carried out using the multi-criteria analysis method is the selection of the city with the greatest tourism potential. Among the surveyed cities, Nowa Sól has the greatest tourist potential.

Opis:: The present paper discusses the outcomes of research realised as part of the ‘Recognising and encouraging the development of aptitude for learning mathematics in older kindergartners and primary school pupils’ project. To start with, data concerning the occurrence of mathematical giftedness in older pupils is offered together with an explanation of the reasons for the previous lack of interest in the issue of inclinations for mathematical giftedness in children. Subsequently, I present a description of the mental traits of older kindergarteners which indicate their inclination for mathematical giftedness. I also go on to outline the research programme on the basis of which I managed to: (a) develop diagnostic methods for determining the inclination for mathematical giftedness in children, (b) estimate the number of children manifesting an inclination for mathematical giftedness and children endowed with an inclination for outstanding mathematical giftedness, (c) determine the reasons why groups of children manifesting their mathematical giftedness become significantly reduced after the first months of education. Finally, I discuss the critical periods crucial for developing inclinations for mathematical giftedness in children. I additionally provide an explanation of why it is impossible to fix the neglected cultivation of an inclination for an aptitude in mathematics in the subsequent years of school education.
