We prove uniqueness of positive solutions for the problem $ −Δ_p u = \lambda f(u) $ in $ \Omega, u = 0 $ on $ \delta \Omega $, where $ 1 < p < 2 $ and $ p $ is close to 2, $ \Omega $ is bounded domain in $ \mathbb{R}^n $ with smooth boundary $ ∂Ω, f : [0,∞) → [0,∞) $ with $ f(z) ∼ z \beta $ at $ \infty $ for some $ \beta ∈ (0, 1) $, and $ \lambda $ is a large parameter. The monotonicity assumption on $ f $ is not required even for $ u $ large.

We show that the situation for the existence of regularly varying solutions of positive indices for (*) can be characterized completely, and moreover that the asymptotic behavior of such solutions is governed by the unique formula describing their order of growth precisely. We give examples demonstrating that the main results for (*) can be applied to some classes of partial differential equations with radial symmetry to acquire accurate information about the existence and the asymptotic behavior of their radial positive strongly increasing solutions.

Opis:
We investigate the existence and multiplicity of positive stationary solutions for a certain class of convection-diffusion equations in exterior domains. This problem leads to the following elliptic equation Δu(x) + f(x, u(x)) + g(x)x · ∇u(x) = 0, for x ∈ ΩR = {x ∈ Rn, ∥x∥ > R}, n > 2. The goal of this paper is to show that our problem possesses an uncountable number of nondecreasing sequences of minimal solutions with finite energy in a neighborhood of infinity. We also prove that each of these sequences generates another solution of the problem. The case when f(x, ·) may be negative at the origin, so-called semipositone problem, is also considered. Our results are based on a certain iteration schema in which we apply the sub and supersolution method developed by Noussair and Swanson. The approach allows us to consider superlinear problems with convection terms containing functional coefficient g without radial symmetry.

This paper is concerned with positive solutions of the semilinear polyharmonic equation $(-\Delta)^m u = a(x)u^\alpha$ on $\mathbb{R}^n$, where m and n are positive integers with n > 2m, $\alpha \in (—1,1)$. The coefncient a is assumed to satisfy $a(x) \approx (1+|x|)^{-\lambda}L(1+|x|)$ for $ x \in \mathbb{R}^n$, where $ \lambda \in [2m,\infty)$ and $L \in C^1([q,\infty))$ is positive with $ {tL^\prime (t)}/{L(t)} \rightarrow 0 $ as $ t \rightarrow \infty $ if $ \lambda = 2m$, one also assumes that $\int_1^\infty t^{-1} L(t) dt < \infty $. We prove the existence of a positive solution $u$ such that $ u(x) \approx (1 + |x|)^{-\tilde{\lambda}} L(1+|x|)$ for $ x \in \mathbb{R}^n$, with $\tilde{\lambda} := \text{min}(n-2m, {\lambda-2m}/{1-\alpha})$ and a function $ \tilde{L} $, given explicitly in terms of $L$ and satisfying the same condition as infinity. (Given positive functions $f$ and $g$ on $\mathbb{R}^n$, $f \approx g $ means that $c^{-1} g \leq f \leq cg $ for some constant c > 1.)

We prove the following results: when n = 1, either there does not exist, or there exist infinitely many positive solutions in C[0,1]; when n [is greater than or equal] 2, there exist at least 1, at most n + 1 positive solutions in C[0,1]. Necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for the cases: 1) n = 1, there exist positive solutions; 2) n [is greater than or equal to] 2, there exist exactly m (m belongs to {1,2,..., n + 1}) positive solutions. Our results generalize the ones existing in the literature, and their usefulness is shown by examples.

In this paper, we give some new results for multiplicity of positive (nonnegative) solutions for third-order differential equations with derivative dependence, deviating arguments and Stieltjes integral boundary conditions. We discuss our problem with advanced argument α and arbitrary β ∈ C([0,1],[0,1]), see problem (2). It means that argument β can change the character on [0,1], so β can be delayed in some set J¯⊂ [0,1] and advanced in [0,1] \ J¯. Four examples illustrate the main results.
