Opis:
The article presents the results of research on polymer composites based on polypropylene filled with various fillers. The physical and thermal properties of the composites are the result of the used polymer matrix as well as the properties and geometric features of the used filler. The geometric shape of the filler is particularly important in the processing of plastics in which the flow is forced, and high shearing tension occurs, which determines the high macromolecular orientation and specific arrangement of the filler particles. Thermal analysis (STA) was used in the research and photographs were taken using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) of fractures of polymer composites. The following fillers were used: talc, fibreglass, glass beads, and a halogen-free nitrogen-phosphorus flame retardant. The test material was obtained by extrusion. Shapes for strength tests, which were subjected to scanning microscopy tests after a static tensile test, were obtained by injection. The carried-out tests allowed us to determine the influence of the type and shape of individual fillers on structural changes in the structure of polypropylene composites and the degree of sample weight loss in a specific temperature range, depending on the used filler.

This study examined the effects rheological properties of different composition kaolin and kaolin geo-filler in polypropylene composites. Polypropylene composites with varying composition of kaolin geo-filler 0 wt%, 2 wt%, 4 wt%, 6 wt%, 8 wt%, and 10 wt% was prepared and compared with polypropylene composite with raw kaolin. Kaolin is an aluminosilicate based mineral filler was used to prepare geopolymer paste by combining with alkaline activator solution. The polypropylene composite was compounded using a twin-screw extruder and the melt flow index was determined by a constant weight pressure of 2.16 kg at 230°C in 10 min. Knowing the melt flow index is necessary to predict and control the process, the study has demonstrated that the composition of kaolin filler and kaolin geo-filler affects the melt flow, melt density and surface morphology at varies composition. Composites with kaolin geo-filler have demonstrated high melt flow index process and having better distribution and flow.

Opis:
This research aimed to gain a better understanding of how the addition of fiber influences the punching shear capacity of two-way slabs by conducting an experiment into the structural behavior of flat slabs with and without a square opening using different volume fractions of hybrid steel-polypropylene fiber (0%, 0.9%, 1.05% and 1.8%). Ten 700 × 700 × 70 mm slabs were divided into five pairs, with two samples used as control samples (with and without openings), and eight other samples with different volume fraction of fibers. Results showed that an increase in fiber content enhanced the shear strength of the slabs. For example, as the volume fraction of hybrid fiber increased from 0.0 to 1.8%, the ultimate load increased by 52% for slabs without an opening and up to 42% for slabs with an opening.

Opis:
The research attempted to investigate the effect of polypropylene fibers (PP fibers) on the mechanical characteristics of concrete. According to ASTM C39/C39M and ASTM C 1609/C1609M, standard testing methods were used to examine the concrete compressive and flexural strength, post-cracking behavior, and toughness. The mechanical properties were evaluated at different ages of concrete curing, namely 1 day, 7 days, and 28 days, and for different quantities of fiber volume portions, specifically 0.0%, 0.5%, and 1.0%. The results demonstrate that a fiber volume of 0.5% is the most effective in obtaining the highest compressive strength. The recorded values at the related testing ages were 31.07 MPa, 41.51 MPa, and 46.68 MPa. Additionally, the utilization of 0.5% and 1.0% volume of PP fiber in concrete resulted in improved flexural strength and post-cracking performance. The toughness values for these mixes were 2.0 and 2.6 times higher than those for the plain concrete. Upon analyzing the fracture surface, there was a homogeneous distribution of fibers, which played a significant role in enhancing the overall functionality of the concrete. The research validated that the inclusion of polypropylene fibers substantially enhanced the mechanical characteristics of concrete, emphasizing the potential of fiber reinforcement in concrete-based implementations.

Opis:
Developing environmentally friendly and recyclable natural fiber-reinforced polymer composites has recently attracted researchers’ attention and interest. Herein, a comparative study was conducted to compare the mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP) composites with different natural fiber reinforcement, including palm fiber (Arenga pinnata), rice straw (Oryza sativa), coconut husk (Cocos mucifera), old world forked fern leaves (dicranopteris linearis), and snake plant (Sansevieria trifasciata). This study aimed to compare the influence of the five natural fiber materials on the tensile strength and flexural strength of PP composites. The natural fibers were chemically treated with a 5% NaOH solution for 2.5 hours. In the preparation of composites, polypropylene as the matrix is heated to 300 °C and mixed randomly with natural fibers. The test results indicate that the composite with the highest tensile strength (38% higher than the lowest) and flexural strength (102% higher than the lowest) is obtained using the PP composite with reinforced rice straw fiber. In contrast, the PP composites with palm fiber have the lowest tensile strength (72% from the highest tensile strength) and the lowest flexural strength (UFSmin) (62% from the highest flexural strength) corresponds to the PP composites with coconut fiber. This study revealed that the flexural strength of all composite samples was greater than that of pure PP.

Opis:
With the rapid development of the polymer materials industry and the improvement of people's environmental awareness, magnesium hydroxide has been widely used in polymer materials due to its high decomposition temperature, non-toxic smoke suppression, and the advantages of neutralizing harmful gases produced by polymer combustion. However, the conventional preparation methods of magnesium hydroxide exhibit several issues, including high hydrophilicity, elevated polarity, and limited compatibility with polymers. This research proposes an improved method by adding sodium stearate and KH560 modifier, controlling the rate of magnesium oxide and preparing magnesium hydroxide flame retardants using a modifier-directed hydration method. Various characterizations confirmed its morphology, particle size and structure. The magnesium hydroxide exhibits low polarity, small particle size, stable structure and excellent hydrophobicity (with a contact angle of 120.32°, and a free energy of 1.34mN/m). In parallel, the magnesium hydroxide/polypropylene composites demonstrate excellent flame retardancy (LOI of 25%, V-1 grade) and simultaneously enhance the dispersion of magnesium hydroxide within the polypropylene matrix, improving the material's toughness and strength.

Every manufacturer wants to protect their textile products and their brand. A possible solution is, for example, the insertion of fibres with special pigments visible under irradiation by UV light into the final product. The paper focused on the study of the structure and colourimetric properties of polypropylene (PP) and poly-(lactic) acid (PLA) fibres modified with photoluminescent dye and halloysite (HNT) modified with photoluminescent dye. The photoluminescent dye and HNT modified with photoluminescent dye affected the structure of PP and PLA fibres differently. Increasing the HNT content up to 0.15 % increased the orientation of the PP fibres. In the case of PLA fibres, the increased content of photoluminescent dye in PLA fibres increased their orientation in the observed concentration area. PLA-based knitted fabrics showed better light stability, where there was no visible degradation of the knitted fabric, only its darkening. Likewise, PLA-based knitted fabric showed luminescence in UV light even after accelerated light aging.

Opis:
This paper presents the effect of the addition of steel and propylene fibers on the mechanical properties of floor concretes (compressive and tensile strengths in the bending test). The polypropylene fibers used in the tests (fibrillated and single fibers) are dosed in the amount of 0.5 kg/m3 to 2 kg/m3 , and the straight and hooked steel is dosed from 10 kg/m3 to 25 kg/m3 . It is shown that, after 28 days of maturation, the highest compressive strength is achieved by concretes containing the addition of 25 kg/m3 of hook-like steel fiber. In addition, the influence of the fiber content on the consistency of the concrete mix and workability is investigated. It was shown that the amount of steel fibers dosed in the tests, regardless of their shape, did not adversely affect the consistency and workability of the concrete mix. On the other hand, the addition of polypropylene fibers has a significant impact on the characteristics of the concrete mix. The addition of 2 kg/m3 of polypropylene fibers caused the change of consistency from S4 to S1/S2 and worsened the workability of the mixture. All of the tested series of the concrete are created using the same technology. The concrete production technology reflects the concrete production technology for flooring concretes.

In order to endow polypropylene (PP) fabric with hydrophilic and antistatic properties, PP was grafted with polyols (sorbitol, maltitol and polyethylene glycol (PEG)) by the oxygen plasma treatment and subsequent bridging process, where ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether (EGDE) and trimethylolpropanetris (2-methyl-1-aziridinepropionate) (TTMA) were used as crosslinkers. The highest grafting rate was 7.48%. The chemical structure changes were analysed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). A scanning electron microscope (SEM) was used to observe the changes in polypropylene fiber surface morphology. The hydrophilicity was characterized by testing loose fiber suspension and moisture retention. The modified PP was more easily immersed in water and the desorption behaviour continued for 2h without equilibrium. The half-life of the grafted PP was reduced to 7s. The results showed that the modified PP with polyols possessed hydrophilicity and antistatic properties.

The effect of unmodified and stearic acid-modified calcium carbonate (5, 10, 20 and 30 wt%) on selected properties (tensile strength, puncture resistance, haze and gloss) and processability of polypropylene films (MVR, extensional viscosity) was investigated. The composites were obtained in the twin-screw extrusion process with cold granulation, and the films in the single-screw extrusion process, using a flat die head (so-called cast films) and a chill roll type cooling and pull-back device. It has been shown that stearic acid is an effective modifier of polypropylene processing properties both under shear and tensile flow conditions (lower extensional viscosity of films containing modified calcium carbonate).
