The current spill response capability in Finland is built to respond to oil spills caused by heavy fuel oils and the most transported oil cargoes. However, the implementation of the Sulphur Directive in 2015 changed the fuel profiles of the ships: prior to the new regulation ships operating in the Baltic Sea mainly used heavy fuel oil (HFO), whereas now ships use marine gas oil (MGO DMA) or marine diesel (MDO DMB) known as marine distillate fuels. This paper reviews the effectiveness of the current recovery techniques in responding to spills of marine distillate fuels based on the oil recovery field tests. The results indicate that conventional recovery techniques are only partially applicable to marine distillate fuels, which calls for a reassessment of the marine oil spill response capability and further research. The use and availability of low-carbon marine fuels will continue to increase as emission regulations become more stringent. This will require a continuous assessment of the oil recovery capabilities and the adaptation of spill response preparedness accordingly.

Opis:
Extraction of natural resources in the Arctic region is difficult and dangerous from an ecological point of view. Under the conditions of the harsh Arctic climate, the probability of emergency situations increases significantly. The transboundary part of the Arctic region is also characterized by difficult climatic conditions. Strong environmental pollution is caused by the development of oil and gas production, as well as processing of oil and gas products at industrial plants. All this calls for a change in the basic elements of the environment: soil, air, water, etc. It is accepted that air can be considered as the initial link in the chain of environmental pollution and objects. Therefore, it is important to monitor the impact of emissions from the oil and gas industry into the atmosphere. Hence, there is a need to assess the condition of the air basin. The purpose of the study: to assess the degree of atmospheric air pollution as a result of the operation of a gas processing plant for various pollutants. In the course of the work, based on the analysis of the proposed criteria for assessing the existing state of the atmosphere and atmospheric air pollution, the degree of atmospheric air pollution by various pollutants was assessed. The characteristics and parameters of emissions were obtained, the polluting element with the highest emission value (methanol) was installed, and the boundary of the sanitary protection zone was constructed. On the basis of the results of the work carried out, it was concluded that the air basin of the area under consideration is characterized by: severe climatic conditions, low self-cleaning ability of the air basin, limited favorable ability to decompose pollutants entering it, favorable ability to wash out harmful substances, and relatively favorable hygienic condition of the air basin.

Oil pollution is a hazard both in terms of scale and toxicity. Oil and oil products cause poisoning, death of organisms and soil degradation. The natural self-purification of natural objects from pollution depends on the natural conditions of the region, the presence of moisture, heat and the activity of the vital activity of the soil biocenosis. Under the conditions of Siberia, where a low temperature regime is maintained for a long time, self-purification is a long process. As a result of the long industrial use of the Medvezhye oil and gas condensate field, the soils of this area have accumulated pollutants. Thus, it is required to assess the toxicity of the soil, as well as to provide the ways and methods to prevent its environmental pollution. One of the ways to restore disturbed landscapes is technical and biological reclamation, the features and results of which are considered in this study using the Medvezhye deposit sand pit as an example.

This article aims to examine the emission of pollutants utilising transport in different points of the city in question at two different intervals, then show whether the means of transport negatively affects the city through pollution. The study of air pollutant emissions from transport sources is a key aspect towards solving problems related to environmental pollution. A study on the measurements of selected PM10 and PM2.5 pollutants to be able to determine the quality of air from transport sources in Pila at different times of the year and with appropriate assumptions regarding the appropriate distance by the road is included in this article. This study analysed data on air pollutants and compared it with the results of the Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection. This made it possible to propose solutions for the development of the air condition in Pila.

The article describes the effect of wastes on the amount of heavy metals in light serozem soils. The study examined the total amount of elements nickel, lead, zinc and copper. The results show that among the heavy metals studied, the highest amount of copper is at a distance of 500 m (55 mg/kg) in the western direction of the Shurtan gas chemical complex, the maximum amount of total zinc is 98 mg/kg in the western direction at 1000 m and 1250 m in the northwest, at a distance of 1250 m, the maximum amount was 1250 m in the north-west direction (202 mg/kg of soil) and the maximum amount of the nickel was 257 mg/kg of soil at a distance of 1850 m in the north-west direction. These numbers are several times higher than the background index and allowable norms of the studied elements. The maximum amount of the element lead is 8-9 times its allowable level, and nickel is more than 3 times. Pollution was mainly recorded on the southern, southeastern, and southeastern sides of the complex.

The assessment of air quality and meteorological variables in Lower Stubbs Creek, Qua Iboe River Estuary, Nigeria was carried out using portable hand held gas monitors for atmospheric gases and hygrometer, thermometer, anemometer and digital compass for relative humidity, temperature, wind speed and wind direction. Parameters measured were SO2, NO2, H2S, CO, NH3, Cl2, HCN, PM2.5, PM10, relative humidity, temperature, wind speed and wind direction. The results for the atmospheric gases followed this decreasing magnitude; PM10 (110.35 µ/m3) > PM2.5 (55.66 µ/m3) > CO (19.00 ppm) > NH3 (5.86 ppm) > HCN (1.41 ppm) > H2S (0.77 ppm) > Cl2 (0.47 ppm) > NO2 (0.28 ppm) > SO2 (0.26 ppm). For the meteorological variables, the mean values for temperature, relative humidity and wind speed were 25.86 ºC, 67.71 % and 1.17 m/s. The predominant wind direction was the North Easterly winds. The result for the air quality using 5 criteria pollutants showed that NO2, SO2 had Air Quality Index (AQI) values of 0 each, while CO, PM2.5 and PM10 had AQI values of 224, 151 and 78, respectively. Based on the air quality ratings, the average concentrations of NO2, and SO2 in the atmosphere were good while the concentrations of CO, PM2.5 and PM10 were very unhealthy, unhealthy and moderate, respectively. This study shows that this region is polluted with CO and particulate matters, hence requires prompt intervention plans and consistent monitoring.

Though Nigeria possesses one of the largest natural gas reserves in the world, it is unfortunate that we are still one of the major gas flaring nations in the world. Besides the grave environmental consequences of gas flaring, it is still an unwise practice considering the impeding global energy crisis within the next 50 years. In this paper, the potentials of natural gas as an untapped reserve of wealth and socio-economic power is discussed. The potential of the Nigerian gas sub-sector can be fully harnessed if the mechanisms of commercialisation in line with the gas master plan is put in motion. The completion of a comprehensive gas pipeline network and the promotion of direct foreign investment is a good means of achieving the commercialisation initiative. About $3.5bn worth of investments is coming into the country to achieve the gas flare commercialisation targets by 2020. The commercialisation programme seeks to provide a framework to eliminate gas flaring which when fully implemented would actualise potential for immense wealth laden in Nation’s gas reserves.

This article deals with the problems of the soil cover disturbance and contamination at oil field construction. It provides a description of the set of measures aimed at ensuring the soil protection at the construction of industrial facilities at oil fields. The research object was the soil located at the interface of the wooded tundra and the southern tundra. This soil is characterized by the peculiar features that are determined by the certain commonality of the climate, as well as the similarity of the landscape evolution. The work included studying the content of the polluting matters in the tundra marshy and alluvial soddy soil located at the interface of the wooded tundra and southern tundra. The article contains a detailed analysis of the measures aimed at decreasing the impact on the soil cover during the construction of approach ways to valve stations and line facilities. The measures on the reliability and safety improvement of the pipeline operation, preservation of the stream conditions, the measures aimed at the prevention and minimization of the negative impact on the geological environment, and the measures for farsighted use and protection of soil quarries (sand and turf) have also been considered.

Assessment of the negative impact on the components of the natural environment during the scheduled and repair outages of gas-compressor units in transportation the process of the natural gas was the purpose of the performed scientific work. The results of the monitoring studies, in which the methane concentrations were measured in the atmospheric air near the source of pollution and on the border of the sanitary protection zone during volley emissions of natural gas into the atmosphere, are presented in the article. In addition, a method that eliminates the release of the natural gas into the atmosphere during the scheduled and repair outages of gas-compressor units are suggested in the article. The method is based on the redistribution of gas flows and the direction of natural gas to the gas distribution station. Volley emissions of methane into the atmosphere will completely eliminated as a result of implementing this method. The proposed technical solution is aimed at reducing the negative impact on atmospheric air near gas compressor stations. Moreover, the proposed method is able to minimize the economic damage to gas companies because of the loss of marketable products.

The quality of the internal environment is an extremely important issue, because users of rooms spend a significant part of the day inside buildings. The quality of the environment is largely dependent on the quality of the indoor air. The parameters of the air we breathe affect our health and the comfort of use of the rooms. Poor indoor air quality can cause a decrease in human comfort and various illnesses and ailments. Therefore, care should be taken to ensure adequate ventilation in the rooms, especially those that have an additional source of pollutant emissions. The purpose of this work is to examine the effect of heating a commercial premises room with a gas heater on air quality. The following parameters were measured as part of the tests: carbon dioxide concentration, air temperature and relative air humidity. The most important parameter significantly affecting the deterioration of the quality of the interior microclimate is carbon dioxide, the level of which reached high values, well above the hygienic minimum (1000 ppm). In order to compare the values of the tested parameters, the measurements were carried out in two options - for a period of five days with the stove running and another two days without additional heating.

Zanieczyszczenie powietrza, to coraz poważniejszy problemem. Jednym z rozwiązań mogących wpłynąć na poprawę jakości powietrza jest ciągłe monitorowanie jego stanu. W celu wykrycia źródeł zanieczyszczeń należy kontrolować podstawowe parametry składu powietrza na rozległym terenie. Rozwiązaniem problemu może być użycie technologii Internetu Rzeczy. Rozproszona sieć czujników pomiarowych monitorujących stan powietrza w sposób ciągły komunikująca się z Internetem w sposób bezprzewodowy umożliwi przekazywanie na bieżąco informacji o rozprzestrzenianiu się zanieczyszczeń. W artykule przedstawiono koncepcję rozproszonego systemu do kontroli stanu powietrza.
Air pollution is an increasingly serious problem. One of the ways to improve air quality is to constantly monitor its condition. In order to detect pollution sources, it is necessary to control the basic parameters of air composition on a large area. The solution to the problem may be the use of Internet of Things technology. A distributed network of sensors that communicates with the Internet in a wireless way will enable the transmission of information on the spread of pollution on an ongoing basis. The article presents the concept of a distributed system for air condition monitoring.

Życie w mieście jest jednym z gordyjskich węzłów problemów społecznych z pewnością współczesna pragmatyczna orientacja na rynek i przedsiębiorczość wszechobecna w programach pomocy i integracji społecznej nie służy rozwiązywaniu problemów społecznych. Mamy bowiem z jednej skrajnej strony podmiotową koncepcję życia miejskiego, w której jest obecna potrzeba odbudowania wspólnotowych więzi i ukształtowania "miasta jako wspólnego pokoju", a z drugiej skrajnej strony prymat formatu życia społecznego, w którym dominują wartości rynkowe. Czystość i bezpieczeństwo "wspólnego pokoju" jakim jest miasto, nie jest jak dotychczas jeszcze wartością społeczną.

A low carbon economy serves to provide economic, social and environmental benefits from measures to reduce emissions of pollutants. The implementation of a low carbon economy in Poland results from the need to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and other air pollutants while reducing the share of coal in energy production, introducing innovative technologies and improving energy efficiency as well as increasing the standard of living of the society. This is a difficult task due to the large use of coal in energy production. The article describes the goals of creating Low Carbon Economy Plans by local government units at the local level and their use in applying for financial resources in the financial perspective 2014-2020.
Gospodarka niskoemisyjna służy zapewnieniu korzyści: ekonomicznych, społecznych i środowiskowych płynących z działań zmniejszających emisje zanieczyszczeń. Wdrażanie gospodarki niskoemisyjnej w Polsce wynika z potrzeby dokonania redukcji emisji gazów cieplarnianych i innych zanieczyszczeń powietrza przy jednoczesnym zmniejszeniu udziału węgla w wytwarzaniu energii, wprowadzaniu innowacyjnych technologii i poprawie efektywności energetycznej oraz wzroście poziomu życia społeczeństwa. Jest to trudne zadanie ze względu na duże wykorzystanie węgla w wytwarzaniu energii. Celem artykułu jest pokazanie celów tworzenia Planów Gospodarki Niskoemisyjnej przez jednostki samorządowe na szczeblu lokalnym oraz ich wykorzystanie w ubieganiu się o środki finansowe w perspektywie finansowej 2014-2020.

Pure plant oil fuels, used in compatible agricultural machinery contribute to sustainable food supply. However, despite this advantage plant oil fuels are barely used in practice, because of technical, economical and sustainability concerns of potential users. It is the purpose of this work, to show the reliability, downtimes and the emission behaviour of pure rapeseed oil compatible tractors in practice. As test fuel, cold-pressed rapeseed oil fuel, complying with the national German standard DIN 51605 was used. Emission testing on the tractor test stand is based on the standard procedure of EU guideline 2016/1628. Differing from type approvals, where engine test stands are used, here the measurement is done at the tractors with mounted engines. The power is measured at the power take-off (PTO) with a dynamometer. As testing cycle, the Non-Road-Steady-Cycle (NRSC) and an adapted Non-Road-Transient-Cycle (10sNRTC) are applied. For real driving emission (RDE) measurements, two state-of-the-art tractors are being used. By using a PEMS Semtech Ecostar, which was set up in a box for off-road use, the emission components CO, HC, NOX are measured. Investigation of the monitored 20 tractors (exhaust stages I, II, IIIA, IIIB and IV) for more than 60.000 hours, showed no considerable failures or damages. Generally, the limited exhaust gas components (NOX, CO, HC, PM) determined at a tractor test stand remained nearly at the same level over the operating time. Plant oil tractors with exhaust gas stage IV achieve the legal emission limits with rapeseed oil fuel during both, the NRSC and 10sNRTC. Results of RDE measurements also show that recorded emission values are within expected limiting values for both fuels. Conformity factors that relate actual emissions, measured with PEMS, to corresponding test cycle values, measured at the test stand are within approaching legitimacy.
