Brak kadry, finansów, trudna sytuacja polityczna i społeczna stawiała przed nimi szczególne wyzwania, wymagała opanowania i poświecenia. Nie wszyscy wytrzymywali warunki pracy, tempo życia i poczucie zagrożenia w tamtym czasie. Ci którzy podjęli trud pracy i nie przelękli się trudności odegrali pozytywną rolę w życiu mieszkańców Pomorza Zachodniego.
    The Polish Red Cross workers in the years 1945–1947 provided support to state authorities and local government with regard to caring of people and achieving the state goals related to takeover, development, and Polonization of the territory. Lack of personnel and finance, difficult political and social situation posed particular challenge, required composure and devotion. Not all the workers were able to endure hard working conditions, fast pace of life, and the sense of threat at that time. Those who took up hard labour and weren’t scared of difficulties played a positive role in the life of the inhabitants of Western Pomerania.

    Opis:
    Polish Red Cross is a humanitarian organization providing aid in the events of natural disasters, mass accidents, and search-and-rescue operations. It educates the citizens by providing first aid training. The Polish Red Cross Recue Group System consists of three types of groups: the Rescue Group, the Medical Rescue Group and the Specialist Rescue Group. They are always ready to provide assistance, especially in times of catastrophes and natural disasters. Moreover, they provide medical support at mass events, such as concerts, live shows, etc.. The aim of this paper was to show in detail how these Rescue Groups function when providing medical support and to describe their legal status. In addition, I have described the organization and functioning of the Polish Red Cross Rescue Team in Bedzin, based on the documentation covering their activity in 2014. The documentation shows that the Rescue Team is a fully functioning, effective and efficient group, always at-the-ready. The number of rescue actions the group participated in shows that its members are fully qualified and experienced, thus the society can rely on them whenever necessary.
    Polski Czerwony Krzyż jest organizacją humanitarną, działającą w przypadkach katastrof, wypadków masowych oraz akcji poszukiwawczych. Dodatkowo spełnia rolę edukacyjną, poszerzając wiedzę społeczeństwa na temat udzielania pierwszej pomocy. Wyodrębniony został System Ratownictwa Polskiego Czerwonego Krzyża, w którego skład wchodzą: Grupy Ratownictwa PCK, Grupy Ratownictwa Medycznego PCK oraz Grupy Ratownictwa Specjalnego PCK. Grupy te są w stanie gotowości, aby w sytuacjach krytycznych nieść pomoc społeczeństwu. Dodatkowo zajmują się zabezpieczeniem medycznym imprez o różnym charakterze. Celem pracy jest szczegółowe omówienie działania Grup Ratownictwa podczas zabezpieczenia medycznego oraz przedstawienie jego prawnej organizacji. Dodatkowo przedstawiona została organizacja i funkcjonowanie Grupy Ratownictwa PCK w Będzinie, na podstawie uzyskanej dokumentacji dotyczącej działań podjętych w 2014 roku. Z dokumentacji tej można wnioskować, że grupa ta jest organizacją sprawnie działającą, przygotowaną do szybkiej reakcji w sytuacjach nagłych. Liczba wydarzeń, w których uczestniczyła Grupa Ratownictwa PCK pokazuje, że jej członkowie mają ogromną wiedzę oraz doświadczenie, dzięki czemu społeczeństwo w każdej chwili może liczyć na ich pomoc.

    W czasie wojny koreańskiej (1950–1953) rząd PRL sfinansował i wyposażył szpital Polskiego Czerwonego Krzyża działający kolejno w trzech lokalizacjach na terenie Korei Północnej. W ciągu 4 lat przez szpital przewinęło się niemal 200 polskich pracowników medycznych, w tym 60 lekarzy. Pomimo pracy w skrajnie trudnych warunkach udzielali oni fachowej pomocy tysiącom rannym i chorym – Chińczykom i Koreańczykom, oraz mieli bardzo duży wpływ na szkolenie nowych kadr medycznych w jednej z dwóch działających wówczas północnokoreańskich akademii medycznych. Doświadczenia zdobyte podczas pracy w strefie wojennej zaowocowały także znaczącym postępem medycyny krajowej, głównie w zakresie nowoczesnego spojrzenia na patofizjologię pacjentów chirurgicznych zaproponowanego przez Jana Oszackiego, chirurga i dyrektora drugiej zmiany szpitala PCK w Korei.
    During Korean War (1950–1953) Polish communist government financed and equipped a Polish Red Cross hospital in North Korea. For almost four years the hospital was active in three different locations and staffed by almost 200 Polish medical professionals including 60 physicians. While working under extremely harsh conditions Polish doctors were able to help thousands of sick and wounded Chinese and Koreans and had an important impact on the medical training of Korean medical students in one of the two active Noth Korean medical schools. The experiences gathered while working in the military conflict zone helped to advance medical treatment techniques upon returning to Poland. It was especially sound in the modern approach to surgical pathophysiology advocated by Jan Oszacki, a surgeon and director of the second deployment of the Polish Red Cross hospital in North Korea.

    Artykuł przybliża mniej znany aspekt życia hrabiny Marii Tarnowskiej, jakim była podejmowana przez nią w dwudziestoleciu międzywojennym działalność dobroczynna w ramach Polskiego Czerwonego Krzyża. W swojej aktywności stawiała przede wszystkim na rozwój pielęgniarstwa. Ponadto popularyzowała idee szeroko pojętego humanitaryzmu, wspierała rozwój opieki medycznej, zachęcała ludność wiejską do dbałości o zdrowie i higienę. W niniejszym artykule wydane drukiem wspomnienia hrabiny Marii Tarnowskiej zostały skonfrontowane z relacjami pielęgniarek PCK i współpracowniczek hrabiny. Są to głównie materiały źródłowe pozyskane w czasie kwerendy w Archiwum Biura Zarządu Głównego PCK. Skorzystano także z materiałów przechowywanych w Archiwum Międzynarodowego Komitetu Czerwonego Krzyża w Genewie oraz z dostępnych opracowań.
    The article takes a closer look at a lesser-known aspect of Countess Maria Tarnowska’s life, which was her philanthropic activity within the Polish Red Cross in the inter-war period. In her activities, she focused primarily on the development of nursing. In addition, she popularised the ideas of broad humanitarianism, supported the development of medical care and encouraged the rural population to take care of their health and hygiene. In this article, the printed memoirs of Countess Maria Tarnowska have been confronted with the accounts of the PCK nurses and the Countess’s associates; these are mainly source materials obtained during a search in the Archives of the Office of the Main Board of the PCK. Materials available in the Archives of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva and available studies were also used.

    Military preparations for war and the hostilities are usually described as an organization and struggles of individual military formations. Despite the fact that the war conflicts in the twentieth century were becoming more and more total, in which the whole or almost whole potential of the struggling societies was involved. The attention is rarely paid to the non military factors and participation in the struggles of individual people or social organizations. The Polish Red Cross as an element of the international red cross structures by nature it is called to look after the combatants and victims of wars. Therefore activity description of its individual structures should occupy the prominent place in the wars historiography. The more that in the 1930s lots of work went into preparation of the structures and members this organization to operate in the coming war. Unfortunately due to the lack of a significant part of the source materials or perhaps also due to the lower interest of researches activities of the departments, centers and structures of the Polish Red Cross during World War II have not been sufficiently documented and described. This is what happened among others with the branches organized by the district board of the Polish Red Cross in Wadowice which prepared a rescue team or sanitary and nutritional point for hostilities. It is possible that even both of these structures were organized in double, duplicated form but there is no source to confirm this hypothesis. Both the male and female rescue team as well as the sanitary and nutritional point took part in the hostilities in September 1939. Records of the rescue team commitment were included in the chronicles of the Polish Red Cross activities in the districts of Brzesko and Tarnów as providing aid to victims of bombed transports of civilian refugees. While the sanitary and nutritional point operated at the railway station in Wadowice since the announcement of universal mobilization in the last two days of peace and in the first tree days of war. We have still known too little about the organizational effort and military involvment of activists and members of Polish Red Cross of Wadowice. This topic requires further researches with the hope of finding more reports or documents. A published article by Michał Siwiec-Cielebon in which collected information available from currently known sources and reports, it is a tribute to both those known by name and the still unnamed people who sacrificed their work for society that suffers the victims of health and life in the war struggles with the invaders of 1939.

    The main aim of the article is to present and discuss various aspects of pastoral care for Polish citizens (civil and military) in places where Poles reside in France, i.e. in Polish shelters, work, companies, hospitals during the time of the Welfare Society for Poles in France in the years 1939–1944. In the difficult period of the Second World War, the pastoral care enjoyed by the Polish immigrants in France was of great importance to them. The pastoral care helped to survive this difficult time, united her expatriates, gave them hope to change the situation. The priests working in the Polish community surrounded with their pastoral care all Poles who wanted and needed such a ministry, many of them were arrested and imprisoned for this activity, and some were killed.

    W ciągu ostatnich 50 lat na świecie wybuchło ponad 250 konfliktów i zginęło ponad 86 milionów osób cywilnych, głównie kobiet i dzieci. Ponad 170 milionów ludzi pozbawionych zostało godności, praw i dobytku. O większości ofiar zapomniano, a tylko w minimalnym stopniu zbrodniarze wojenni zostali osądzeni. Istnienie w prawie międzynarodowym wielu postanowień zakazujących zbrodni wojennych, ludobójstwa, zbrodni przeciwko ludzkości, ochrony dóbr kultury, a ostatnio agresji nie stanowi skutecznego środka do respektowania prawa. Do dziś brakuje sprawnego systemu egzekwowania tych praw oraz pociągania do odpowiedzialności karnej indywidualnych sprawców.
    In the last 50 years more than 250 conflicts broke worldwide out and killed more than 86 million civilians, mostly women and children. Over 170 million people have been deprived of their dignity, rights and possessions. The majority of the victims were forgotten, and only a few war criminals were tried. The regulations existing in international law, which are prohibiting war crimes, genocide, crimes against humanity, protection of cultural heritage and, most recently aggression are not effective and not respected. To this day an effective system of enforcing those rights and bringing the individuals responsible for it to justice does not exist.

It describes the main types of initiatives undertaken by the organisation in schools of the Second Polish Republic (among others, the creation of circles of interest, aid to the poor and unprivileged students, or exchange of letters within the international interschool correspondence). The article also presents the educational ideals propagated by the American Junior Red Cross, which were to lead to significant political changes both at the national, and at the international level.
