Opis:
We discuss some aspects important for interpretation of the Ps formation process in liquids and molecular media: (1) inhomogeneity of intratrack reactions and parameters of the e⁺ track, (2) final states of e⁺, its solvation in polar and nonpolar liquids, relation to e⁺ mobility, (3) quasi-neutrality of the e⁺ blob and its ambipolar outdiffusion, (4) appearance of the "in-blob" and "out-of-the-blob" positron fractions, and (5) electric field effect on Ps formation.

Opis:
Numerical studies of the evolution of strain localisation and polar effects within a plane layer of a granular material under monotonic shearing are presented. Herein a micro-polar approach is formulated within the framework of a hypoplastic Cosserat continuum to describe the essential properties of a dry and cohesionless granular material like sand. The constitutive model is based on incremental non-linear tensor-valued functions and captures the influence of the pressure, the void ratio, the mean grain diameter and the rotation resistance of the grains on the evolution of the stresses and couple stresses. The Cosserat boundary conditions are suitable to model the rotation resistance at the interface between the granular layer and the surfaces adjoining the boundaries of the granular body. The numerical investigations show that the location, thickness and evolution of strain localisation within the shear layer are strongly influenced by the boundary conditions and the initial state quantities.

Opis:
The paper deals with experimental and theoretical research of resonance effects during silo emptying. The influence of resonance effects on wall pressures in silos has been investigated with model tests and FE analyses. The model tests were carried out with a cylindrical and rectangular silo containing various cohesive and non-cohesive bulk solids. The onset of dynamic silo flow was simulated with controlled outlet velocity along the bottom in a plane strain model and large silo. The confined flow of dry sand in a silo with parallel walls during resonance was described with a finite element method based on a polar elasto-plastic constitutive law. It differs from the conventional theory of plasticity by the presence of Cosserat rotations and couple stresses using mean grain diameter as a characteristic length. In the FE calculations, the silo walls were taken into account.
