Opis:: Glades are an important element in the landscape of the Gorce Mts. (southern Poland). The cessation of use of the glades triggered the spontaneous process of landscape development − renaturalization, leading to their gradual overgrowing. The paper presents the results of research on the renaturalization of 46 glades situated in the upper montane belt in the Gorce Mts.

Opis:: Applied studies concerning microclimatic description are an important element in the spatial shaping of the landscape. The objective of the studies was to determine the air temperature differentiation on forest glade in Kluczwoda Valley. The study area is located in Dolinki Krakowskie Landscape Park in VI Małopolska Natural Forest Region, 8 – Krakowsko−Częstochowska Upland Subregion. Basing on the results of two years (2003−2004) short series of microclimatic measurements carried out in five stations situated at a forest glade. A greater air temperature contrasts in the forest glade occurred between central part of glade and terrain next to south−east forest wall. A detailed characteristic of air temperature distribution in this area allowed developing a map illustrating spatial distribution.

Opis:: Polany stanowią bardzo ważny element środowiska przyrodniczego Gorców. Zaprzestanie na nich wypasu i wykaszania zapoczątkowało proces samorzutnych zmian krajobrazu w wyniku zarastania polan. W artykule opisano zmiany powierzchni górnoreglowych polan w latach 1954–2003, czyli w ciągu niemal 50 lat, kiedy te nieużytkowane już obszary stopniowo ulegały renaturalizacji.
The renaturalization process, being a result of the end of grazing and mowing, leads to a gradual disappearance of glades. The total area of analyzed glades in the Gorce Mts. was in 2003 by 125.69 ha less than in 1954 i.e. – 1/3 the original. Two small glades had become completely overgrown, other had become fragmented. The rate of forest expansion had not been the same an all the investigated glades. In the Gorce Mts most of the glades are private. For this reason any protective activities conducted by the Gorce National Park encounter hindrances. A decline in biodiversity and a decrease in the tourist attractiveness of the mountain landscape are the most important negative results of the glades overgrowing.

Suttєvі zmіni poljanskoї gospodarki prizvodjat do transformacії cіlogo kulturno-prirodnogo kompleksu: porushennja gіdrologіchnogo rezhimu ґruntіv, erozіjjnikh procesіv, vitіsnennja maloproduktivnim travostoєm, kushhami jj derevami luk іz bagatovidovim skladom. Na pochatku XXI st. vіdbuvajutsja rіznovektornі procesi: a) poljanskі landshafti znikajut, zarostajuchi lіsom; b) poljani іz cіlorіchnim, vodnochas sezonnim perebuvannjam domashnikh tvarin ta ljudejj, peretvorjujutsja na: 1) lіtnarkovі fіlіali chi sіnokosi; 2) vіkendovі oselі; 3) postіjjnі oselі (ojjkumenu) chi drugu rezidencіju.
The studies have shown that natural resources, as well as the strategy of environmental management and settlement, create preconditions for the functioning of glade farming and glade culture in general. At the same time, it is glade farming, as well as various buildings, that create a specific cultural and natural landscape. Traditional farming is the only condition of homeostasis for a glade landscape. One significant transformation of glade farming leads to a transformation of the whole cultural and natural complex: disturbance of the hydrological regime of the soil, erosion processes, and displacement of multispecies meadows with low-yield grass, bushes and trees. At the beginning of the 21st century, multi-vector processes took place: a) glade landscapes themselves disappeared, becoming overgrown with forest; b) glades with year-round and, at the same time, seasonal stays of domestic animals and people, were transformed into: 1) places for summer stays or hayfields; 2) weekend residences; 3) permanent residences (ecumens) or other types of residences.

Opis:: The influence of the edge effect on the meadow vegetation pattern was studied in the forest glades in the central part of the Middle Sudety Mts. (SW Poland). The spectacular edge effect is seen in the range of 4 m from the forest border towards the center of the glades. Within that belt we observed decrease in tree and bush species number, increase in share of graminoids and Fabaceae species, as well as increase in share of species generally related to grassland communities. A significant increase in species number and values of Shannon−Wiener diversity index was noticed within the distance of eight meters from the edges of glades.
