Opis:
Plasma oxidation, similarly to anodic oxidation (anodizing), are classified as electrochemical surface treatment of metals such as Al, Mg, Ti and their alloys. This type of treatment is used to make surface of castings, plastically processed products, shaped with incremental methods to suitable for certain requirements. The most important role of the micro plasma coating is to protect the metal surface against corrosion. It is well known that coating of aluminium alloys containing silicon using anodic oxidation causes significant difficulties. They are linked to the eutectic nature of this alloy and result in a lack of coverage in silicon-related areas. The coating structure in these areas is discontinuous. In order to eliminate this phenomenon, it is required to apply oxidation coatings using the PEO (Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation) method. It allows a consistent, crystalline coating to be formed. This study presents the mechanical properties of the coatings applied to Al-Si alloy using the PEO method. As part of the testing, the coating thickness, microhardness and scratch resistance were determined. On the basis of the results obtained, it was concluded that the thickness of the coatings complies with the requirements of conventional anodizing. Additionally, microhardness values exceeded the results obtained with standard methods.

Opis:
The paper is focused on the studies of the microstructure development and physical and mechanical properties of metal-matrix composite coatings based on steel 11Cr18MoWCu deposited using plasma and galvanoplasma methods. The expediency of combining gas-thermal spraying processes of plasma coatings with open porosity up to 16%–18%, with their subsequent thermodiffusion saturation (chromium plating) or liquid-phase impregnation with eutectic alloys of previously applied Ni–B galvanic layer, is shown. The study of the tribotechnical properties of the proposed coatings showed a significant improvement in their performance under conditions of various types of intensive wear, as well as in corrosive environments.

Opis:
A common problem encountered in hydraulic valves is a progressing deterioration of tightness of their water flow cutting-off seats. The seats are provided usually with a copper-alloy insert joined mechanically with cast-iron valve housing. The problem of unreliability of such joints can be solved by providing surface of the seat with a coating, deposited with the use of HVOF method and resistant to abrasive and cavitation wear. The tests were carried out for a sealing-draining seat insert made of CuZn39Pb2Al brass used to date and a specimen taken from the cast-iron valve housing which was the substrate for a plasma-sprayed coating of powder containing 86.1% Cr, 7.2% Ni, and 6.7% C. The coating, 345 ± 15 μm thick, was characterized with good quality of bonding with cast-iron substrate and high compactness of the material. The cavitation wear test on materials used in the study were carried out with the use of Vibra-Cell ultrasonic liquid processor (Sonics) equipped with a piezoelectric probe operating at the frequency of 20 kHz. Based on profilograms taken along a line crossing centers of cavitation craters, measurements of the height parameter Rt, and microscopic observations of surfaces it has been found that the coating plasma-sprayed onto substrate of nodular cast iron demonstrated higher resistance to cavitation compared to copper-alloy inserts used so far in cast-iron hydraulic valves. Cavitation craters on the material used typically for valve seats to date were more distinctly outlined and deeper compared to craters observed on the coating. Larger were also sizes of local tear-outs which resulted in larger difference between the peaks line and the valleys line.

Opis:
The purpose of this study was the selection of roller- burnishing parameters of surface Ni-Al coatings obtained by "PN 120" plasma torch. Coatings with low surface roughness could be applied as layers increase the service life of torque pumps shaft used on vessels in the sea water systems. After turning, the average surface roughness of plasma sprayed Ni-5% Al coatings was Ra = 0.77 mi m. Their average hardness was equal to the 253 HV 2. It was comparable to the hardness of flame sprayed Ni-Al coatings after the burnishing. Before machining, plasma sprayed alloy coatings were characterized by hardness 206 HV 2. After pre-treatment, plasma sprayed Ni-Al coatings were burnishing. Burnishing parameters were as follows: Vn=28.26 m/min, Fn=1100N, fn=0,08m/rev. Burnishing reduces the surface roughness of coatings as compared to machining. The arithmetical mean deviation of the assessed profile of machined coatings was 0.78 mi m. After the plastic working, the Ra parameter was reduced to a value of 0.28 mi m. Total height of profile of machined coatings was only 2.63 mim. After burnishing, the value of Wt decreased by 0.16 mi m, to the value of 2.47 mi m. Studies burnished surface topography of coatings of Ni-5% Al overlaid by "PN 120" torch revealed the presence of defects stereometric structure. There is the folding. These folding are arranged in the direction of peripheral velocity vector. The observed high folding on the surface of alloy coatings sprayed by plasmatron were lower from the same geometric structure defects on the surface of coatings obtained by flame spraying methods. This follows from the fact that the plasma coating, after turning, characterized by higher hardness of the sprayed coating obtained by and "Roto-Teck 80" method. Thus, exhibit a lower propensity for plastic deformation. After plastic working of plasma coatings, decrease of parameters of the material ratio curve values were observed. For example, the reduced peak height of cut coatings were 1.38 mi m, after burnishing Rpk value fell to 0.23 mi m.

Opis:
The paper deals with the assessment of systems properties on the heating coat basis - the steel substrate in terms of the adhesion and coatings structure. On S235JRG1 steel substrate the ceramic and composite coatings on the Al2O3 basis were made for research purpose by the technology of plasma heating spraying with a water stabilized arc. The content effect of Ni metallic component to the base Al2O3 powder was examined on the adhesion and composite coatings structure. Adhesion tests were examined in terms of STN EN 582 (Thermal spraying. Determination of tensile adhesive strength). Coatings were further evaluated by a hardness measurement, chemical and microscopic analysis. Adhesion tests proved the Ni metallic powder addition markedly increases the adhesion of composite heating sprayed coatings and allows their creation without an interlayer utilization. The composite coating contains fewer defects in term of pores and cavities occurrence and rifts in the first place which are caused by dilatation strains during a setting process.

Do celów badawczych na stalowym podłożu S235JRG1 metodą natryskiwania plazmowego wykonane zostały ceramiczne i kompozytowe powłoki na bazie Al2O3. Badano wpływ zawartości metalicznego niklu do bazowego proszku Al2O3 na przyczepność powłoki kompozytowej i jej strukturę. Badania adhezji wykonano zgodnie z norma EN 582 (Natryskiwanie cieplne - określanie przyczepności metodą odrywania). Powłoki były następnie poddane pomiarom twardości, analizie chemicznej i mikroskopowej.

Opis:
During operation of marine pumps, one of the most common disability is tribological wear of shaft neck cooperating with the gland. In the practice, worn shafts are exchanged for new or are regenerated by chromium plating, padding or thermally sprayed of ceramic coatings, mainly Al2O3 In this article, the use of plasma sprayed Ni-5% Al-15%Al2O3 composite coatings were proposed. The surfaces of coatings by turning and burnishing treatments were shaped. Tribological properties of composite materials are dependent on the proportion and size of the reinforcing phase particles contained in a metal matrix. A reinforcement composite with very small dimensions and the amounts may result in increased wear and increase the coefficient of friction. It is therefore important to check whether the advisable of phase composition will not adversely affect the wear of the composite and the cooperating the part. The presence of a 15% volume fraction of the alumina particles on the selected tribological properties of the Ni-5% Al matrix composite coatings were evaluated. In order to assess the effect of the applied tapes of finishing on wear of MMC coatings, the tribological tests were performed on the "T05" machine with head roll- piece type. It has been found that the burnishing favours a lower wear of composite coating and the cooperating element compared to the coatings after turning treatments. At the same time observed more than ten times less wear intensity of MMC coatings in the initial time of friction, which may indicate a shorter time needed to grind of cooperating elements.

The paper focuses on the problem of low adhesion of plasma sprayed coatings to the substrate. The subsequent laser treatment modes and their influence on the coating-substrate interface were studied. This allows to decrease the level of met-stability of the coating, thus decreasing its hardness down to 11–12 GPa on the surface and to about 9 GPa on depth of 400 μm. The redistribution of alloying elements through solid and liquid diffusion improves mechanical properties and rises the adhesion up to 450 MPa after remelting and up to 90–110 MPa after laser-aided thermal cycling. At the same time, remelting of coating helps to decrease its porosity down to 1%. The obtained complex of properties also allows to improve wear resistance of coatings and to decrease friction factor.

The Ni-5%Al alloy coatings and Ni-5% Al-15%Al2O3 composite coatings were obtained by plasma spraying method. The PN120 gun was used. The coatings onto a shaft made of austenitic stainless steel (X5CrNi 18-10) were sprayed. The coatings were subjected to turning, burnishing. The evaluation of corrosion properties were based on the measurements of corrosion current density and corrosion potential (polarization method), the charge transfer resistance and exponent of constant phase element impedance (electrochemical impedance spectroscopy method). Corrosion tests were performed in replacement seawater (3.5% sodium chloride solution). On the basis of studies, the effect of finishing type on the corrosion properties of plasma sprayed coatings has been demonstrated. The lowest corrosion current density was found for Ni-5% Al coatings after burnishing, icorr value equal to 0.96 A/cm2, and the charge transfer resistance was 27007 Ωcm2. The lowest resistance to corrosion of turned Ni-5%Al-15%Al2O3 composite coatings was observed. These coatings were characterized by the following parameters of corrosion process: icorr = 17.64 A/cm2, Rct = 2137 Ωcm2. Burnishing caused increased corrosion resistance of coatings. Due to reduced roughness and waviness are obtained reduction of the area of the actual burnished coatings compared to turned coatings. Thus, it is resulting in reduced values of corrosion current density. After finishing treatment, the plasma sprayed Ni-5%Al-15%Al2O3 coatings characterized by lower corrosion resistance compared to the alloy coating. The presence of the reinforcing phase in the coating promotes the increase of the porosity. The plasma sprayed coatings on nickel matrix had a tendency to localized corrosion in sodium chloride solution.

Ni3Al coatings were obtained on AISI 321 steel samples by air plasma spraying system. The behavior of heat treatment on intermetallic coatings were evaluated after exposure at various temperatures i.e. 500ºC to 800ºC. The stay time in this regard was varied from 10 to 100 hours. The coatings were then characterized by X-Ray diffraction analysis, optical and scanning electron microscopy, eddy current measurements and stress analysis. It was observed that the formation of NiO increases drastically with time and temperature. The hardness of the coating increases with the formation of NiO. It was noted that the residual stresses can be correlated with the formation of NiO. Further, the development of residual stresses can be monitored by a non-destructive technique i.e. eddy current method.

Nowadays plasma spraying and supersonic spraying processes are widely applied in many branches of industry. This paper presents current achievements in this area and the results of investigations of plasma and supersonic sprayed NiCrBSi/Fe2O3 coatings. It was found that the microstructures of coatings depend on the method of spraying. The tests show that supersonic coating possesses lower porosity and scuffing resistance. The investigations concluded that supersonic sprayed coatings posses higher wear resistance. The increase of the Fe2O3 portion in the composite coating causes a decrease of the wear resistance of coatings.

Opis:
In this work, Cr3C2-NiCr ceramic coating with NiCr content of 30% was created on E355 (St 52-3)/1.0060 alloy steel substrate by air plasma thermal spraying (APS) method. The adhesion, tensile strength of the coating were studied in relation to spray parameters including current intensity, powder feed rate, and stand-off distance according to experimental planning. Experiments were designed based on Central Composite Design method. The adhesion and tensile strength of the coatings were measured by a tensile-compression machine. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to build regression functions expressing the relationship between each property and spray parameters. The experimental results showed that those spray parameters significantly influence the properties of the coating. ANOVA results indicated that the spray parameters have different influences for each coating properties. In addition, regression model of the properties gives prediction results very close to experimental results. The optimization problem was solved in order to achieve the maximum value of adhesion and tensile strength of the coating. Values of the spray parameters for Cr3C2 – NiCr coating to achieve the above criteria have been determined and proposed in this study.
