Opis:
This article describes an investigation into the seasonal variations of frequency, damping ratio and amplitude of swaying and vibration of Norway maple Acer platanoides L. The study was carried through a series of pull andrelease experiments in situ andon branches in the laboratory using an artificial air flow. It was foundthat foliatedtrees hada natural sway frequency that was on average 1.6±0.2 times greater than in the out-of-leaf state. In contrast, the damping ratio of maple increased by 1.5±0.3 times in the summer period. The stem swaying initiatedvibrations, i.e. elastic wave, in the roots with frequencies in the range of 45–50 Hz. Laboratory tests showed that the vibration amplitude of branches depended linearly on leaf mass for an air flow velocity of 1.94 m/s.

The aim of the present study was to determine va-rious physical, mechanical, and structural characteristics of seed of pepper cultivars Yağlık Kapya, Demre Sivri, Yalova Carliston, Kandil Dolma, and Cin Sus Yediveren, which are grown extensi-vely in Turkey, with initial moisture content ranging between 7.03 and 7.21% (w.b.). Width, length, and thickness were found to be in the range of 3.00-3.72, 3.43-4.40, and 0.66-0.82 mm, respectively. It was revealed that sphericity of the seeds of Yağlık Kapya, Demre Sivri, Yalova Carliston, Kandil Dolma, and Cin Sus Yediveren were 51, 57, 56, 51 and 57%, respectively. In terms of the roundness which ranges between 76 and 85% depending on pepper cultivars. The aspect ratio of Yağlık Kapya, Demre Sivri, Yalova Carliston, Kandil Dolma, and Cin Sus Yediveren were determined to be 84.60, 88.04, 94.43, 85.55, and 87.67%, respectively. It was also noted that the porosity of the pepper seeds was in the range of 44.94-49.61%. Besides, we found that as the weight of pep-per seeds increased, their terminal velocity increased accordingly, and thus terminal velocities were found to be 2.87-4.66 m s-1. In the current study, the static friction angle and coefficients of the cultivars were determined by means of six different plates including aluminium, stainless steel, galvanized iron, rubber, glass, and plywood. The plywood plate was found to be the least slippery; consequently, the static friction angle and coefficient were determined to be the highest for the plywood plate.

Opis:
Habitat studies were conducted on three rare plant communities dominated by Nuphar pumila, Nymphaea candida and Hydrilla verticillata in lakes of north-eastern Poland. The comparison of habitat properties of these three types of phytocoenoses with those of Nuphar lutea common in the area under study was also performed. It was demonstrated that the plant communities studied were ecologically distinct. The habitats of the phytocoenoses of N. pumila differed most significantly from those of the other phytocoenoses. They often inhabited softer waters poor in Mg2+, dissolved SiO2, but rich in total Fe, PO43−, NO3−, and were associated with acidic substrates containing lower levels of Ca2+ and Na+, but greater amounts of total Fe and NO3−. The differences in the habitats of H. verticillata and N. candida phytocoenoses were most pronounced in the case of four properties of water: Na+, K+, Cl−, and Mg+. Their values were lower in waters of the H. verticillata phytocoenoses. The habitats of all the three types of rare phytocoenoses differed considerably from those of N. lutea. The most significant differences were found between the N. lutea and N. pumila phytocoenoses and the smallest differences were between the patches of N. lutea and N. candida. The properties of water were more important in differentiating the habitats of the phytocoenoses studied than the substrate properties. Due to alkalization and increase in water hardness in the lakes studied the stands of N. pumila are among the most threatened. The patches of N. candida and H. verticillata, which occur in waters with a wider range of hardness and tolerating a slight increase in trophy, can still continue to persist in the lakes for a long time.

Opis:
The institution of agricultural exemption is the most significant economic importance from all limitations to the exclusive right to the plant varieties. The agricultural exemption shall mean the derogation from the assumed protection model of plant variety rights, the objective of which is to defend the interests of farmers. Protecting the interests of farmers within the institution concerned is provided through their entitlement to benefit from the material harvested from plant varieties protected by the exclusive right as the seed without the breeder’s consent. So far-restricting protection of the exclusive right to the variety may lead to disintegration of the referred right, unless the legislator ensures the breeders legal instruments to offset their legitimate interests. Both at the Community and the national level such instruments shall be the entitlement to collect a fee for the agricultural exemption, the entitlement of the breeder to demand the information on a scope of the use of the institution of agricultural exemption, as well as the entitlement to check the compliance of the obtained information with the actual data. The latest draft amendment to the plant variety protection act fails to satisfy the principle to balance interests of the parties for obligatory relations of the agricultural exemption. In Poland its potential adoption and coming into force may be the essential factor which shall make the protection of the exclusive right regarding plant varieties at national level illusory.

The results of a pot experiment on soil application of sewage sludge samples (at the rate of 200 g DM • pot-1) from 19 sewage treatment plants localized in region of the Green Lungs of Poland in three areas: the Great Masurian Lakes, Iława Ostróda Lake District and Łyna River Basin, are discussed in the paper. The sewage treatment plants had different capacities, received different shares of industrial sewage water and used different technologies of sewage sludge dewatering. In the pot experiment the following five vegetable crops were grown (without winter break): root celery, lettuce, small radish, Swiss chard and spinach. Before planting the first plant (celery) and after harvesting the last plant in the rotation (spinach), physical and chemical properties of the soil were studied in order to determine if the amendment of soil with sewage sludge could pose any environmental risk to the growth of vegetable crops. It was found that most of the applied samples of sewage sludge did not produce adverse effects on the determined parameters. In many cases, the content of organic carbon increased soil retention properties were improved under the effect of sewage sludge. Sewage sludge form Zalewo, because of its high content of chromium, was implied as being hazardous for growing plants, as it could result in soil and plant contamination. When sewage sludge from Olsztyn, Olsztynek and Spychowo was applied to soil, zinc contamination occurred.
W pracy przedstawiono wyniki doświadczenia wazonowego z zastosowaniem osadów ściekowych, w jednakowej dawce 200 g s.m.-wazon'1, pobranych z 19 oczyszczalni ścieków zlokalizowanych na obszarze tzw. Zielonych Płuc Polski w trzech regionach geograficznych: Wielkich Jezior Mazurskich, Pojezierza Ostródzko-Iławskiego i zlewni rzeki Łyny. Oczyszczalnie różniły się wielkością, udziałem przemysłowych ścieków i technologią odwadniania osadów, z czego wynikały różnice w składzie chemicznym tych odpadów organicznych.

Opis:
The aim of this work was to compile characteristics of some selected physical, physico-chemical and chemical properties of the reclaimed hydrogenic soils in the meadow part of the Przedmoście bog in the context of new forming plant communities. Melioration work conducted in this area before the Second World War ended peat accumulation processes. Consequently, drying peat began to disintegrate and mineralise. Analyses of floral lists proved that the existing vegetation replaced the original bog plant communities, which flourished in this area in the past. Descriptions of profiles point to the existence of mixed formations (gyttja, peat) often containing high quantities of CaCO3. Peat formations present in the profiles are usually at the advanced degree of decomposition (H>7) and contain substantial quantities of ash. This high degree of ash content and bulk density results in strong compaction and muddy soil horizons. A low coefficient of C/N showed intense mineralization of organic matter in the upper soil horizons.
