Opis:
Given a set of input-output measurements, the paper proposes a method for approximation of a nonlinear system by a piecewise affine model (PWA). First step of the two-stage procedure is identification from input-output data, in order to obtain an appropriate nonlinear function in analytic form. The analytic expression of the model can be represented either by a static nonlinear function or by a dynamic system and can be obtained using a basis function expansion modeling approach. Subsequently we employ nonlinear programming to derive optimal PWA approximation of the identified model such that the approximation error is minimized. Moreover, we show that approximation of multivariate systems can be transformed into a series of one-dimensional approximations, which can be solved efficiently using standard optimization techniques.

Opis:
This article is devoted to the problem of simulation of random variables distributed according to Young measures associated with piecewise affine functions determined on bounded intervals. We start with simple functions which can take on a finite number of different values with inverse images being the intervals or their unions. We present some formal results connected with related discrete Young measures and propose an algorithm for generating random variables having such distributions. Next, based on these results we introduce an algorithm designed for approximation of Young measures in various, more general situations. We also present an example where a Young measure associated with a piecewise affine function is approximated with the help of computer simulations. In this benchmarking problem the theoretical results are compared with the ones obtained in the Monte Carlo experiment.

Opis:
Due to the coexistence of continuity and discreteness, energy management of a multi-mode power split hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) can be considered a typical hybrid system. Therefore, the hybrid system theory is applied to investigate the optimum energy distribution strategy of a power split multi-mode HEV. In order to obtain a unified description of the continuous/discrete dynamics, including both the steady power distribution process and mode switching behaviors, mixed logical dynamical (MLD) modeling is adopted to build the control-oriented model. Moreover, linear piecewise affine (PWA) technology is applied to deal with nonlinear characteristics in MLD modeling. The MLD model is finally obtained through a high level modeling language, i.e. HYSDEL. Based on the MLD model, hybrid model predictive control (HMPC) strategy is proposed, where a mixed integer quadratic programming (MIQP) problem is constructed for optimum power distribution. Simulation studies under different driving cycles demonstrate that the proposed control strategy can have a superior control effect as compared with the rule-based control strategy.

Opis:
We are interested in the solution of Horizontal Linear Complementarity Problems, HLCPs, that is complementarity problems with more variables than equations. Globally metrically regular HLCPs have nonempty solution sets that are stable with respect to "right-hand-side perturbations" of the data, hence are numerically attractive. The main purpose of the paper is to show how the stability on conditioning properties of globally metrically regular HLCPs are preserved by a homotopy framework for solving the HLCP that finds a "stable" direcaion at each iteration as a local minimizer of a strongly convex quadratic program with linear complementarity constraints, QPCC. Apart from intrinsic interest in numerical solution of HLCPs, this investigation has application in solving horizontal nonlinear complementarity problems and more broadly in the area of mathematical programs with complementarity constraints, MPCCs.
