Opis:
Physical activity and eating habits are very important determinants of health. The aim of the study is to demonstrate relationship between the level of activity and eating habits of students. The study involved 1,291 female students with an average age of 19.5, from 12 fields of study of the National University in Lutsk, Ukraine. In order to assess the activity levels the authors applied long version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), and eating habits were surveyed via a questionnaire prepared at the Institute of Agricultural Medicine in Lublin. With regards to behaviors related to eating habits a significantly higher activity was observed in people suffering from fear of food. In the case of behaviors related to care for the appearance and the figure, a higher physical activity was shown among students performing exercises to reduce and to gain weight. Very insignificant use of the test participants of unhealthy means indicates appropriate health-promoting attitudes of the female students.

Opis:
In view of new civilizational challenges of the 21st century, health promotion and education encouraging active participation in physical recreation, which should be implemented at all levels of education, within family, peer environment and local environment, become issues of particular importance. The research was carried out in the summer of 2013 and included 572 students of John Paul II State School of Higher Education in Biała Podlaska (PSW), of such degree courses as Tourism and Recreation, Public Health, Nursing, Rescue Medicine and Computer Science. The method used in the research was a diagnostic survey based on International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). The aim of the study was to get to know the differentiation between the forms of recreational physical activity taken up and expected by the students of PWS and their gender, BMI and self-assessment of physical fitness. Basing on the results of the analysis it was concluded that the abovementioned independent variables have significant impact on the forms of physical activity chosen and expected by the surveyed. Studies of the literature on the subject and the results of our previous research entitle us to conclude that university students, who in the near future will constitute the intellectual elite of the country, should be aware of the influence of physical activity on general health, the importance of healthy lifestyle and their role in promoting healthy attitudes. However, the research showed that the students are not ready to perform such tasks, therefore the actions preparing them to lead a healthy lifestyle need to be intensified.

Opis:
Background. Physical activity of the prison staff is an important condition of their proper functioning. Material and methods. The research was conducted in April 2015 among 100 of 119 prison staff members from the Biała Podlaska Prison. A diagnostic survey method with the use of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) extended with questions about the free time and self-evaluation of the physical fitness has been used. Results. A satisfactory level of physical activity among the researched staff members was noted. A factor which visibly diversified higher physical activity level was the higher index of self-evaluation of the physical fitness. The amount of leisure time, age, education, or the BMI indicator were not noted to have any influence on this dependency. Conclusions. It should be assumed that the main factor conditioning physical activity of prison staff is their awareness of the role of physical activity as a means to keep a good health.
Wprowadzenie. Materiał i metody. Badania przeprowadzono w kwietniu 2015 roku wśród 100 funkcjonariuszy Zakładu Karnego w Białej Podlaskiej spośród 119 zatrudnionych. Zastosowano metodę sondażu diagnostycznego z wykorzystaniem Międzynarodowego Kwestionariusza Aktywności Fizycznej (IPAQ) z dodaniem pytań o posiadany czas wolny i samooceny sprawności fizycznej. Wyniki.

Opis:
The aim of the article was fitness assessment in the aspect of physical activity of women over 60 years of age. The research included the group of 53 women (mean age: 69.5±4.4). Group I (n = 32) comprised female students of the University of the Third Age and group II (n = 21) consisted of Senior Club members. A Fullteron test was used for fitness assessment, whereas to evaluate the level of physical activity the authors used a long form of International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). The research results were subjected to statistical analysis with the application of the programme Statistica 8.0. Average standard deviations were determined. The results of physical fitness tests were expressed in a T point scale. In the analysis of differences in distributions of analysed features between the groups the authors used a t-Student test for independent samples, whereas the correlation between the level of physical activity and belonging to a specific group was evaluated using the chi-square independence test. Unambiguous differences in the level of physical fitness were not found. The only, statistically significant difference appeared in the sample ’get up and go’. It was therefore concluded that the women from the University of the Third Age are characterized by a higher level of agility and better dynamic balance. The female students of the University of the Third Age constituted the majority in the group of those whose general physical activity was assessed as high. Such a difference cannot be considered statistically significant (p > 0.05). Results: Unambiguous influence of physical activity of women over the age of 60 on their general physical activity has not been found. A higher general level of physical activity and a higher level of activity related to sport were conducive to achieving better results in some samples evaluated with the application of a Fullerton test. The female students of the University of the Third Age are characterized by an insignificantly higher level of overall physical fitness and by an insignificantly higher level of general physical activity in comparison to the women belonging to KS.
Grupę I (n=32) stanowiły słuchaczki Uniwersytetu Trzeciego Wieku (UTW), do grupy II (n=21) należały uczestniczki Klubu Seniora (KS). Do oceny sprawności fizycznej wykorzystano się test Fullerton, natomiast do oceny poziomu aktywności fizycznej skorzystano z długiej formy Międzynarodowego Kwestionariusza Aktywności Fizycznej (IPAQ).

Purpose: We examine physical activity levels of Polish and Turkish students to determine cross-cultural and gender differences in exercise habits. Methods: Our study assessed 50 students from Adnan Menderes University in Aydin, Turkey and 50 students from the University of Physical Education in Krakow, Poland. Physical activity was measured using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ; short form). Results were expressed in MET-minutes/week (Metabolic Equivalent of Task). Results: More than half of the students (52%) engaged in moderate physical activity in the week prior to the survey, while a quarter of the students (37%) engaged in vigorous physical activity. Low levels of physical activity were reported by 11% of the students. Total physical activity per week, expressed in MET-minutes/week, was significantly higher for Polish students (5,953.51 MET) than for Turkish students (3,095.45 MET). Moderate physical activity was higher among Turkish students while vigorous physical activity was higher among Polish students. Physical activity contrasts were further exemplified between genders. Polish women engaged in significantly more (p < 0.05) total physical activity than Turkish women. Total physical activity, high-level physical activity, and moderate-level physical activity differences were not significant (p > 0.05) between Polish and Turkish men. Conclusion: Polish university students engage in more physical activity than students from Turkey. Men were more physically active in both countries. More than half of Turkish students do not meet minimum weekly physical activity the World Health Organization recommends for preserving health.

Opis:
Physical activity is one of the most important elements of a healthy lifestyle, and its lack or insufficient amounts can lead to serious health disorders. There are many adult diseases which are associated with the behaviour, lifestyle during puberty, including physical inactivity. It was therefore decided in this study to present the physical activity of young people from six countries in the world in the context of different variables. The following countries: Brazil, Spain, Poland, Czech Republic, Norway and Nepal were selected for comparison. Although all studies used the same standardized research tool, ie. the International Physical Activity Questionnaire IPAQ, in the course of analysis, the authors encountered difficulties with comparability, associated with the usage of various methods and data processing, which could result in different or reduced comparability. Consequently, it was decided not to make a detailed comparative analysis of individual research results and the presentation of the key conclusions brought about selected studies worldwide. Analyses of studies which have been conducted in different cultural contexts, confirm once again the thesis of the decline in physical activity levels with age for both girls and boys. Gender quite substantially differentiated physical efforts in adolescents. Girls at the age of adolescence are less physically active than boys. It was also noted that the increase of sedentary behaviour among children and adolescents and their disastrous consequences have an impact on the health and life in this age group, the studies of sedentary lifestyle have become a very important subject of many studies. Girls are still “more sedentary” than boys. Many authors, in order to ensure the reliability and relevance of their research, complied with the objective instrument eg. accelerometer or metabolic analyzer.

Opis:
Background. Numerous connections of physical activity with biological indicators and various diseases justify its place in the multifaceted theory of health, thus making it a health measure. The aim of the study was to learn about the physical activity declared by students at Belarusian universities – to determine its level and dominant areas. Material and methods. 739 people studying in Brest, Minsk, and Grodno (Belarus) were surveyed with the long version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Results. The total physical activity of the surveyed students amounted to 4840.5 metabolic equivalent of task (MET) min/week (median), which proves their significant involvement in the broadly understood physical culture. The dominant area of their physical activity proved to be work-related effort (median=1700.6 MET-min/week), while the lowest activity of the respondents was related to sport and recreation. The surveyed men showed higher MET-min/week rates in total physical activity and its components compared with women except for housework. In each of the analyzed variables (gender, Body Mass Index (BMI), selfassessment of physical fitness, and declared amount of spare time), there were statistically significant differences in the physical activity level of the surveyed students. Conclusions. The surveyed men proved to be more active than women in all domains of physical activity except for housework. Respondents with a BMI indicating overweight were more active than those with a normal BMI or those who were underweight. High self-esteem and declaration of lacking spare time are associated with high values of the MET-min/week index.
Wprowadzenie. Materiał i metody. Sondażem diagnostycznym z wykorzystaniem długiej wersji Międzynarodowego Kwestionariusza Aktywności Fizycznej (IPAQ) objęto 739 osób studiujących w Brześciu, Mińsku i Grodnie (Białoruś). Wyniki. Badani mężczyźni w porównaniu do badanych kobiet prezentowali wyższe wskaźniki MET-min./ tydzień w obszarze całkowitej aktywności fizycznej i jej składowych, z wyjątkiem wysiłków związanych z pracami domowymi. W każdej z analizowanych zmiennych (płeć, BMI, samoocena sprawności fizycznej, deklarowana ilość wolnego czasu) wystąpiło istotne statystycznie zróżnicowanie poziomu aktywności fizycznej badanych studentów. Wnioski.

Background: Numerous connections between physical activity (PA) and health clearly indicate that nowadays conscious and purposeful PA is essential. Aim of the study: To determine PA levels reported by University nursing students and to indicate the dominant activity areas. Material and methods: A diagnostic survey which included the International Physical Activity Questionnaire – Short Form (IPAQ) was used to examine 419 students of nursing. Results: The reported total PA of the students under investigation was 3443.9 MET-min/week. Walking activities were the dominant area of PA (mean = 1557.6 MET-min/week), whereas vigorous activities were the least common. Compared to women, men accumulated higher values of MET-min/week in the area of total PA and its components, with the exception of vigorous activities. Significant differences in PA were only shown when place of residence was factored in. Conclusions: The IPAQ showed that one in four participants demonstrated high levels of PA. More than one-third of the respondents did not meet the criteria for moderate or high activity levels, thus exhibiting low levels of PA. The participants from urban areas were more active than those from rural areas. Out of the three areas of PA (vigorous, moderate and walking), walking was the most dominate activity.

Healthy, fit, and satisfied with life youth is the goal underlying all undertaken individual and social activities related to prevention and health actions. For this purpose, it is necessary to diagnose and monitor the condition of particular social and age groups. Accordingly, the authors decided to examine students of selected majors. The study involved groups of physical education students from the University of Physical Education in Wrocław and Zielona Góra. These students are future professional health educators. The study aimed to determine the level of students' physical activity and of their health and physical fitness self-assessment in relation to health behaviors declared by them. The results show that the students declaring a high level of physical education demonstrate also a higher level of health activity in other fields. Women in this group pay more attention to active rest, nutritional habits, and psychical health. On the other hand, men in the group concentrate more frequently on active rest and particularity on psychical health. Those students who had trained before undertaking studies, focus more on active rest and using unconventional medicine.
Zdrowa, sprawna i zadowolona z życia młodzież to dążenie, które leży u podstaw podejmowanych działań indywidualnych i społecznych z obszaru profilaktyki i działań zdrowotnych.

Opis:
Determining the state of physical activity of societies as an important component of a health promoting life style is a very up-to-date problem. Studies of physical activity among students, the future elites in their environments, become of increasing importance. An important problem is the recognition of factors differentiating this activity on the example of place of residence. For this purpose, the study covered 2,125 students (60.8% females and 39.2% males) from the National Institute in Lutsk, Ukraine, aged 17–22 (mean age: 20.4). The method of a diagnostic survey was applied which included the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). The following measures of physical activity according to the place of residence (rural area, small town with a population up to 100,000; medium-size town – 100,000–200,000 inhabitants; large city – over 200,000) were taken into consideration: level of physical activity, self-reported physical fitness, sports disciplines practiced by the respondents, and those which they would like to practice, and the BMI, and leisure time possessed. The study showed that the place of residence positively differentiated physical activity among students from medium-size towns and rural areas, compared to their contemporaries from small towns and large cities. Significant differences were also found with respect to the BMI, which was significantly less favourable among respondents from the rural environment. However, no differences were observed between the place of residence for leisure time, self-reported physical activity, and forms of physical activity practiced, and those which the respondents would like to practice.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the frequency of consumption of high energy products, dishes and drinks among high school students with different level of physical activity. The investigated population included 592 students at the age of 18.2 ± 0.03 y (girls DZ = 294, boys CH = 298) with different level of physical activity [adequate physical activity WAF (n = 352), inadequate physical activity NAF (n = 240)]. Dietary intake data was obtained using a Food Frequency Questionnaire FFQ, and physical activity was assessed by the use of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire IPAQ. BMI and skinfold thickness was also measured. The results showed that boys and students with inadequate physical activity significantly more often consume most of the products which lead to overweight and obesity. Moreover, it was found that the higher the level of physical activity, the higher was the consumption of sweet drinks. The frequency of consumption of juice, sweets drinks and energy drinks positively correlated with BMI and skinfold thickness. The findings of this study showed that the level of physical activity is a significant factor affecting dietary habits of students. It was also shown that excessive consumption of energy drinks could be one of the main reason of overweight and obesity.

In times of prevailing civilization diseases physical activity has become not only a vital element of a healthy lifestyle but also a duty of every human being. Subsequently published studies present the levels of physical activity in various socio-professional groups and the degree to which they meet health promotion recommendations. The challenge of today's times however is the search for new, often atypical or niche social groups and their efforts in undertaking and promoting physical activity. Such a type of group undoubtedly includes persons in the Independent Cultural Centers (ICCs) operating in Poland. The research conducted among them is probably the first attempt to get to know this social group and, above all, the physical activity undertaken by its members. Despite the fact that the activities of Independent Cultural Centers are organized in a bottom-up manner, in accordance with the Do It Yourself principle, their initiatives, including those related to physical culture, enable participants to achieve beneficial health outcomes. The results of the conducted research show that, following the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) criteria, a vast majority of the respondents are sufficiently and highly active. Moreover, compared to similar groups in other respects, they also come out more favorably.

Opis:
Background. The aim of this study was to identify the level of physical activity of members of Independent Cultural Centers (ICCs) operating in Poland. The choice of this group was dictated by the desire to identify unconventional initiatives (including various types of physical activities) that differentiate the group from previously researched socio-professional groups. Material and methods. The study included participants from all ICCs in Poland, represented by 38 women and 66 men aged 19 to 46 years. To assess their level of physical activity, the short version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ short) was used. Results. For both sexes, physical activity at intensity levels of vigorous (VPA), moderate (MPA), light (walking) (LPA), as well as the total physical activity (TPA) of the subjects, were measured. Among men, weekly VPA energy expenditure was 1281.2 MET-min/week (SD = 763.6) and among women 1162.7 MET-min/wk. (SD = 644.6). For MPA, analysis of the results showed an energy expenditure of 918.8 MET-min/week (SD = 650.6) in women and 772.3 MET-min/week (SD = 455.5) in men. Weekly LPA energy expenditure was 1342 MET-min/ week in men (SD = 827.2) and 1341.3 MET-min/week in women (SD = 823.6). Conclusions. Respondents from the ICCs constituted a group characterized by positive physical activity scores. Women had higher results compared to men in the VPA, MPA and TPA analyses, although these differences were not statistically significant. The respondents’ results were also more favorable in relation to groups of students and members of other Polish associations and non-governmental organizations.
Wprowadzenie. Materiał i metody. Do oceny poziomu aktywności fizycznej badanych, wykorzystano krótką wersję Międzynarodowego Kwestionariusza Aktywności Fizycznej (IPAQ short). Wyniki. Rozpoznano aktywność fizyczną badanych obojga płci na poziomie intensywności wysokiej (VPA), umiarkowanej (MPA), niskiej (chodzenie) (LPA) oraz całkowitą aktywność fizyczną (TPA) badanych. Wśród mężczyzn tygodniowy wydatek energetyczny VPA wynosił 1281,2 MET-min/tydz. (SD = 763,6), wśród kobiet 1162,7 MET-min/tydz. (SD = 644,6). W przypadku MPA analiza wyników wykazała wydatek energetyczny na poziomie 918,8 METmin/tydz. (SD = 650,6) u kobiet i 772,3 MET-min/tydz. (SD = 455,5) u mężczyzn. Tygodniowy wydatek energetyczny LPA wynosił 1342 MET-min/tydz. u mężczyzn (SD = 827,2) i 1341,3 MET-min/tydz. u kobiet (SD = 823,6). Wnioski.

Background. Physical activity is a vital component of one’s lifestyle. Therefore, it should be properly diagnosed in students, the future social elites. Material and methods. The study was conducted in 2013 and involved 308 students of Lesya Ukrainka East European National University in Lutsk. The research method was an International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ-S) supplemented with own questions. Results. The study has shown that only 4.5% of Ukrainian students demonstrate a high level of physical activity, 22.1% − average and as many as 73.4% − low. The course of study is not relevant to one’s level of physical activity. Further, it turns out that in subsequent years of study, there is a visible increase in the number of females demonstrating low physical activity. Finally, students from large cities as well as those living in private houses show a higher level of activity. Conclusions. The knowledge on physical activity in students should be taken into account in the didactic process at university.

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to determine the physical activity levels of active duty police officers and police academy cadets in different life domains and intensities. These parameters were treated as potential quantifiers that could be used when assessing individuals preparing for work as future police officers. Material and Methods: The study recruited 153 active police officers and 176 cadets attending a police academy and administered a diagnostic survey, the long-form version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire, while in the statistical analysis the Student's t-test for independent groups was applied. Results: It was determined that police officers present high physical activity levels within the work domain, which are developed from initial training at a police academy and then throughout their police career. Conclusions: Such data are important in the light of the role police officers play in public safety as well as the prominence of physical activity within a particular profession and how it can be targeted and tailored to their needs.

Objectives: Activities of daily living are currently the simplest form of activity. For many people this is the only activity in which they participate. In this connection, it is important to determine the level of physical activity connected with daily habits including occupational activities. The main goal of the presented study has been to assess the level of activities of daily living in different age groups and its differentiation by season and working (WD) and non-working days (NWD). Material and Methods: The study group (urban citizens, N = 106) was divided into young (Y) (N = 40), middle-aged (M) (N = 38), and senior (S) (N = 28) participants. The daily step number on 7 consecutive days during 4 seasons between June 2012 and 2013 was counted objectively using pedometers. The long-form of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was completed each season as a subjective assessment. Results: The daily step number for the whole group for the year was (median) 6615 (range: 3648–10 709), fewer than recommended. The median (Me) was highest in group M (Me = 6994, range: 3648–10 709) followed by Y (Me = 6957, range: 4094–10 321) and S (Me = 5469, range: 3743–8955). The lowest daily step number occurred in winter (M = 6208, Y = 6063, S = 5242), and the highest in spring (Y = 7385) or summer (M = 7717; S = 6095). All groups had a greater daily step number on WDs compared to NWDs (Y: 8411 vs. 5744, M: 7612 vs. 5839, S: 6327 vs. 4580; p < 0.01 for all). Pedometer-tracked values did not correlate with the IPAQ results. Conclusions: Activity level in Polish urban society is low, especially on NWDs and in colder months. The daily number of steps is highest in the middle-aged group, which may be connected with working status. Objective methods are recommended for assessing physical activity level. Introduction. A large-scale research was performed concerning issues relating to physical activity as an important factor in a healthy lifestyle and involved observing the differences among males and females as future elites of the Ukraine. Objective. The objective of the research is to assess the physical activity of students from the Ukraine, considering such factors as: gender, leisure time, time spent sitting, sports performed or intended to be performed, and the BMI. Materials and method. The extended version of the IPAQ, supplemented with 3 original questions by the authors, was applied to a 2,125-strong student group from 12 majors of the University of Luck, Ukraine. Results. Students from Ukraine portrayed a positive picture of physical activity with significantly higher values in male students of both total activity and its fields, i.e. sports activity and work (studying). The male students performed better in their fitness (condition) self-assessment and the amount of time spent sitting, whereas the female students had better BMI results. Both genders differed considerably in their choice of sport-recreational activities. Conclusions. Females more than males demonstrated lower indices of participation in physical activity, which did not permit the formulation of a positive assessment of their lifestyle. A positive phenomenon is the normal BMI and trace values of overweight in women, exactly the reverse to males.

Background. Physical activity is a crucial component of a healthy lifestyle. Thus, it should be diagnosed in students as future elites, especially those in medical faculties, i.e. medical and nursing departments. The aim of the present research is knowledge about the level of physical activity of nurses, including the factors that determine it. Material and methods. The research was carried out in 2017 and involved 279 nurses aged 21-30 (mean 23.5 ± 2.4 years) from the Medical Education Centre in Niort, France. The physical activity was assessed using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) - long version, supplemented with additional questions. Results. Most nurses (75.4%) demonstrated a high level of physical activity or a moderate one − 18.9%. Only in some persons ( 5.7%), it could be described as low. The total level of physical activity was 6573.0 MET / min-week, and the dominant activity related to work or studying, i.e. 2823.2 MET, which amounted to 43.0% of the total activity. The place of origin − the city, as well as the year of study, the second and third year, turned out to be decisive factors significantly affecting the higher level of physical activity in nurses. Conclusions. Nurses exhibit a high PA (physical activity) level and a correct BMI index, which proves that their lifestyle can be considered as healthy.
Wprowadzenie. Materiał i metody. W badaniach przeprowadzonych w 2017 r. wzięło udział 279 pielęgniarek z Ośrodka Kształcenia Medycznego w Niort we Francji w przedziale wieku 21-30 lat, przy średniej wieku 23,5±2,4 lat. Oceny aktywności fizycznej dokonano Międzynarodowym Kwestionariuszem Aktywności Fizycznej (IPAQ) w wersji długiej, uzupełnionego o dodatkowe pytania. Wyniki. Wśród czynników istotnie warunkujących wyższy poziom aktywności fizycznej pielęgniarek, wykazano z miejscem pochodzenia - miasto, rokiem studiów - drugi i trzeci i prawidłowym wskaźnikiem BMI. Wnioski.

Objectives: The aim of our study was to investigate a relationship between weekly physical activity and quality of life in elderly women. Methods: Participants were 22 elderly women ≥ 60 years (mean age 66 . 27 ± 4 . 99) with weight ≥ 50kg (mean weight 74.84 ± 14. 87kg) from Nitra. In this pilot study we used 2 questionnaires. The assessment of quality of life (QoL) was conducted by Short - Form General H ealth Survey (SF - 36). To examine weekly physical activity we selected International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Both questionnaires were evaluated separately by standardized scoring manual for SF - 36 and IPAQ. To examine a relationship between r esults of SF - 36 and IPAQ we used non - parametric Spearman's correlation coefficient (r s ). Results: The results from IPAQ show significant relationship between quantity and quality of weekly physical activity and age (r s = - 0. 562). More significant relations hips were found in results from SF - 36. The results showed significant relationship between domain of Vitality (r s = - 0. 508), Social Functioning (r s = - 0. 634), Mental Health (r s = - 0. 537), Mental Health Summary (r s = - 0. 549) and age. There was also signific ant relationship between domain of Vitality (r s = - 0. 598), Mental Health (r s = - 0. 505), Mental Health Summary (r s = - 0. 505) and weight. In this study, the results did not show relationship between weekly physical activity and domains from SF - 36. Conclusion s: According to the results from both questionnaires we follow the age - related decline of weekly physical activity, vitality and mental health. In our study, questionnaires IPAQ and SF - 36 did not show relationship between each other. For the further invest igation we intend to use different questionnaires for elderly people or we could measure the physical activity with pedometer or other new devices which are now available on the market.

The purpose of this study was to determine if physical activity of different intensity has an effect on reduction of delayed onset muscle soreness. Eighty women divided into two groups participated in the study. Subjects from Group 1 participated in the training of upper libs, whereas subjects from group 2 – in the training of lower limbs. Tests of power of upper limbs – the active overhang on the bar (Gr. 1) and power of lower limbs – the vertical jump test (Gr. 2), visual analog scale of pain (VAS) and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) were used as investigative tools. The majority of studied women were characterized by the high level of physical activity. Physical activity level had strong positive correlation (r = 0.54; p < 0.001) with the reduction of pain. Taking into account the partition according to the kind of physical activity, there was observed some significant correlation between the diminution of delayed onset muscle soreness and the level of moderate activity and walking (relocating). Physical activity level positively correlated with the reduction of delayed onset muscle soreness. Moderate physical activity and walking proved to be the most beneficial from the reduction of delayed onset muscle soreness point of view.

Opis:
Introduction. Low levels of physical activity in the society have been observed in Poland for many years, especially in case of elder people. It is surprising that, in the era of intensified development of diseases of affluence, many people still do not recognize health benefits that result from regular physical exercise. Materials and method. 622 health resort visitors who participated in the research in the Nałęczów Health Resort were divided into groups based on socio-demographic status in order to recognize the determinants of their physical activity. A short version of International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was used to estimate the level of physical activity. Results. Health resort visitors were characterized by a relatively low level of general physical activity, and walking was a predominant type of exercise. Surprisingly, professional status did not significantly differentiate participants’ physical activity. However, especially participants from small villages and towns with primary education presented a low level of physical activity. These were mostly pensioners and persons of disadvantaged groups with lower income. Conclusions. Most of health resort visitors represent low level of physical activity which cannot be significantly and statistically differentiated by any demographic variable.
