Przedstawiono analizę czynników decydujących o preferencjach polskich konsumentów wieprzowiny, wykorzystując nową metodę wzorcowego albumu zdjęć „pork chops” (kotletów schabowych). Wyniki uzyskano z badania preferencji 480 konsumentów, którzy dokonywali wyboru mięsa na podstawie jego wyglądu oraz wypełniali standardowy kwestionariusz ankietowy. W oparciu o modyfikowane cyfrowo obrazy fotograficzne wieprzowiny stwierdzono, że głównymi kryteriami jej wyboru była barwa mięsa i otłuszczenie zewnętrzne: zdecydowana większość konsumentów preferowała jasną barwę mięsa i brak otłuszczenia zewnętrznego. Zidentyfikowano również mniej liczną, ale wyraźnie odrębną grupę konsumentów preferujących mięso ciemne i chude. Wyniki wyboru skonfrontowano ze standardowym kwestionariuszem ankietowym, na podstawie którego określono dane socjodemograficzne i zwyczaje żywieniowe oraz deklarowane preferencje każdego z wymienionych segmentów badanej populacji konsumentów.
In this paper, the analysis of factors determining preferences of Polish consumers of pork is presented. The analysis was carried out using a new method with a standard album of computer-modified pork chop photographs. 480 consumers were polled: they had to choose chops on the basis of the external appearance of meat; they also had to answer a standard questionnaire. On the basis of the digitally modified photographic images of pork chops, it was stated that the main criteria influencing the consumer choices were the colour of meat and its fat cover. The majority of consumers preferred a lean (i.e. no fat cover), light red meat. Additionally, an evidently separate group of consumers was identified showing strong preferences for a dark red, lean pork. This group of consumers was smaller in number. The choice results were compared with the results of the standard polling questionnaire. On the basis of this analysis, there were determined socio-demographic characteristics and nutritional habits of consumers, as well as declared preferences in each individual cluster of a consumer population under investigation.

Komputerowa analiza obrazu w dobie informatyzacji dotykającej również rolnictwa i przemysłu spożywczego może stanowić doskonałe narzędzie do analizy stanu jakości produktów rolno-spożywczych, poprzez akwizycję obrazu badanego obiektu. Aby można było dokonać prawidłowej oceny należy pozyskać obraz jak najlepszej jakości. W tym celu należy wykorzystać odpowiednie natężenie i ilość światła, co niekiedy stanowi duży problem i nie pozwala na uzyskanie odpowiedniej ilości informacji. W tym celu zbudowano stanowisko do akwizycji obrazu, w którym zastosowano możliwość regulacji światła w celu uzyskania odpowiedniego oświetlenia jak również wyeliminowania cieni, które również zakłócają pozyskanie odpowiedniego zdjęcia badanego obiektu. Konstrukcja stanowiska pozwala na odpowiedni dobór światła i prawidłowe wykonanie zdjęcia, które posłuży do weryfikacji badanych czynników.
Computer analysis of the image in the age can make the computerization touching the farming also and the food industry excellent tool for analysis of the state of agrarian and food qualities of products, of object through the soliciting custom of the image studied. So that it is possible to make the correct assessment one should recruit insults like the good quality. To this purpose one should use the right intensity and the number of the lighting what sometimes the considerable problem is making and doesn't let the amount appropriate for getting of the information. To this purpose a post was built for the canvassing of the image, in which the possibility was applied of adjustment of the lighting of the object in order to get the appropriate illumination as well as to eliminate shadows which are also shattering recruiting the appropriate photograph studied. The structure of the post permits to the right assortment of the lighting and correct making the photograph which will serve for the verification of examined factors.

Conference related to these issues was held on 4th of October 2007 by Getty Conservation Institute in cooperation with Faculty of Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art connected with Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. The place of conference was in Wilanow Palace. During the meeting of more than 200 people was a lecture of prof.dr Dusan Stulik from GCI and the discussion. The goal of conference was the inauguration of international cooperation in this field and establishing of training program in central, south and eastern Europe in theory and practice. Coordination of Polish part of this project will make Izabela Zając from Warsaw’s Faculty. Working with the most important photographs of the “chemical photography era” such as the world’s First Photograph from 1826, the mysterious Hillotype photographs from the 1850’s which represented the first attempt to create photographs in colors, and studying the most beautiful photographs in some of the world’s most important photographic collections, scientists of the Getty Conservation Institute in Los Angels are developing a scientifically based methodology for identification of more then 150 different photographic processes and process variants that were invented, introduced and often abandoned during now 181 year old “chemical photography era”. The goal of this article is to present relation between photography and Joseph Brodsky’s poetryon the example of the poem Мы жили в городе ...., which was translated into English by the poetand titled A Photograph.In the first part the author analyses the structure of the presented world in context of his stylizationon a photograph. While putting stress on Brodsky’s “photographic seeing” the author pays attentionto lighting, colors, geometry and fragmentary nature of the presented world.The results of bringing the meanings of the visual work of art upon the literary work are examinedin the second part of the article. The author points on such qualities of a photo-text as: disruptionof the temporal-spatial structure of the presented world which is a consequence of a priori elegiacnature of photography; questioning the fictional character of the poem and introducing metonymicmeanings on the place of metaphorical ones (as a result of the documentary character of photography);bringing in, implied by photography, notions associated with passing, death and immortality

A method of disease areas detection on agricultural plants is proposed based on image processing using textural and fractal characteristics of images. The developed method was implemented in a joint segmentation algorithm of aerial photograph. It is applied in a decision-making system, which is a part of software-hardware complex for agriculture application.

Opis:
Leszek Szaruga’s novel is built by two interweaving narrative sequences which may be arbitrarily called photographic and historical ones. Photography and history function here through literature, in a closed off and finite semiotic system – constituted by a novel. It is literature which establishes the scope of reference for them. A photograph here is repeatedly a part of somebody’s story (by inscribing itself into the anthology of private narratives), while a story is somebody’s “photograph” (by inscribing itself into the album taken from history archives). Historic qualities of photography and, conversely, photographic ones of history determine each other mutually. A photograph presenting starving people in Africa triggers a character’s reflection, whereas co-existence of beauty and terror in a photograph makes him embark on a number of actions: photographing the photograph, or optical enlarging of its details. This, in turn, seems to constitute a kind of simulation of participating in the presented events which indicates taking up a hermeneutical game with reality. 20th century history of Poland, viewed from a perspective of the 1990s, is being written out for a set of life histories of people who represent different generations, thus forming a historic narrative chain in the novel. The novel’s polylogue on historical topics, as well as reflection revealed by the character under the influence of the viewed photograph create a dynamic anthropological project based on an assumption that being outside history is utopia, while existence means activeness, consciousness, and responsibility.

Fotointerpretacja zdjęć lotniczych jest dziedziną rozwijaną wielokierunkowo od wielu lat. Do niedawna bazą do badań były zdjęcia lotnicze z obiektów załogowych oraz zdjęcia satelitarne, co w znaczący sposób ograniczało zakres zastosowań. Głównymi ograniczeniami były min. koszt i częstotliwość wykonywania zdjęć nad tym samym obszarem oraz wysokość, przekładająca się na jakość zdjęcia i minimalną wielkość odwzorowywanych elementów. Zastosowanie zdalnie sterowanych przez naziemnego operatora lub autonomicznych lekkich obiektów latających (UAV) pozwala na zupełnie nowe możliwości wykonywania zdjęć [Heine 2008]. Autorzy pracy za pomocą zdalnie sterowanego, wyposażonego w elementy automatyki pionowzlotu wykonali serię zdjęć użytków zielonych. Wykonano przegląd i analizę zdjęć lotniczych wykonanych z wysokości do 100 m w celu wskazania cech i parametrów do ich interpretacji. Zaproponowano elementy metodyki do fotointerpretacji zdjęć na potrzeby rozpoznawania zmian w strukturze użytków zielonych.
Photointerpretation of aerial photographs is a discipline which has been developed in many directions for many years. Aerial photographs from manned objects and satellite photographs have recently constituted a base for research which considerably limited the scope of application. Expenses and frequency of taking pictures over the same area as well as height translated into the quality of a picture and the minimum size of the reproduced elements have been the main limitations. The use of aerial vehicles remotely controlled by a navigator or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) allows completely new possibilities of taking pictures [Heine 2008]. The authors of the study took a series of pictures of grasslands with the use of remotely controlled vertiplane equipped with elements of automatics. Inspection and analysis of aerial pictures taken from the height up to 100m in order to indicate properties and parameters for their interpretation were carried out. Elements of methodology for photointerpretation of photographs for the needs of recognising changes in the structure of grasslands.

The Gabčíkovo hydroelectric power plant has significantly influenced Danube water regime, thus the condition of floodplain forests in the region. Forest condition has been regularly monitored since 1995 using aerial photos. The subject of this study was to improve the procedure of floodplain forest health evaluation based on digital multispectral aerial images. Firstly, the forest mask was created with overall accuracy 89%, and next, tree health was evaluated using defoliation as health indicator. We applied orthogonal transformation of 4 original bands of multispectral imagery into two-dimensional space. Marginal values of digital numbers (DN) of the first component (New Synthetic Channel – NSC1) were defined by fully foliated willow and poplar. The second component (NSC2) was optimised for damage estimation. Calculated DN values of NSC2 represented a perpendicular distance from the line of DN values of the first component. The distance from the line was proportionate to tree damage extent in a given pixel. We generated linear regression model between pair values of NSC2 and defoliation evaluated for 38 trees in the field, respectively, from aerial photos. A decline prediction resulted in r-square equal 0.86. Finally, we used the model to predict defoliation for each picture element (pixel) of the component NSC2.

Opis:
Contemporary polish essays on paintings and photographs, by Wojciech Karpiński, Zbigniew Herbert, Ewa Bieńkowska, Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz, Wojciech Nowicki and Jacek Dehnel, are described in the article as the specific kind of real or envisaged journey — undertaken in space and time, in search for pictures’ aura (Walter Benjamin’s notion). Since essayists often mention about numerous obstacles that hinder the fully individual contact with famous paintings (eg. overabundance of known descriptions and artificiality of museum expositions), the increasing writer’s interest in old, unique photographs could be regarded as an enclave for experience of aura.

Celem artykułu jest pokazanie, że Tadeusz Kantor, podejmując w spektaklu Wielopole, Wielopole próby zrekonstruowania utrwalonych w pamięci obrazów rodzinnego domu i miasteczka, stawia w istocie niezwykle uniwersalny, niezależny od kultury i szerokości geograficznej problem niemożliwego powrotu do przeszłości. Odwołując się do medium pamięci i medium fotografii, artysta z uporem odtwarza obrazy tego, co minione, choć jednocześnie wyraża świadomość, że utraconego dzieciństwa nie można powtórzyć. Klisze pamięci poddawane w spektaklu nieustannym korekcjom i korektom zyskują fizykalny wymiar, stają się niemal dosłownie rozumianą przestrzenią działań artysty. Wywoływane z nich obrazy stanowią uobecnienie fotograficznego widzenia twórcy.
This paper aims to show that, by attempting in his play Wielopole, Wielopole to reconstruct images of his family home and home town recorded in his memory, Tadeusz Kantor in fact poses an extraordinarily universal problem that is independent of culture and latitude: that of the impossibility of revisiting the past. By referring to the medium of memory and the medium of photography, Kantor perseveres in reconstructing images of the past, but at the same time expresses an awareness of the fact that a lost childhood cannot be repeated. The snapshots of memories, continually adjusted and corrected in the spectacle, acquire a physical dimension and become a space for the author’s endeavours that can be construed almost literally. The images retrieved from them create a presence of the author’s photographic vision.

The article shows chosen ways of cooperation between sociology and photography. The starting point is the indication that these both spheres of activity have similar roots connected with the values present in modern society. There follows a presentation of general frames of the cooperation in question, executed in the context of visual sociology understood as a way to perform sociology that trusts the images. The most crucial element in this article is the reference to three research projects based on different forms of cooperation between sociology and photography: Tales from the borderland, Forms of dwelling, Invisible city. With reference to the abovementioned, there is a key thesis saying that the best cooperation is such where the parties preserve their independence and identity.
Artykuł prezentuje wybrane sposoby współpracy pomiędzy socjologią i fotografią. Punktem wyjścia jest wskazanie, że obie te sfery działalności mają podobne korzenie, związane z wartościami społeczeństwa nowoczesnego. Następnie zaprezentowane zostają ogólne ramy omawianej współpracy, realizowanej w kontekście socjologii wizualnej rozumianej jako sposób uprawiania socjologii, który ufa obrazom. Najistotniejsze w artykule są natomiast odwołania do trzech projektów badawczych opartych na różnych formach współpracy pomiędzy socjologią i fotografią: Opowieści z pogranicza, Formy zamieszkiwania, Niewidzialne miasto. W nawiązaniu do nich zostaje postawiona kluczowa teza, zgodnie z którą najlepsza współpraca to taka, w której strony zachowują swoją niezależność i nie wyzbywają się swojej tożsamości.

Opis:
Fotografia, po spełnieniu przesłanek ustawowej ochrony, stanowi utwór w rozumieniu przepisów prawa autorskiego. Ustawodawca ogranicza prawa autorskie twórcy z powodu nadrzędnych interesów, takich jak informowanie czy prawo do informacji. Artykuł zwraca uwagę na specyfikę utworu fotograficznego i praw w nim występujących oraz na cel ograniczeń najistotniejszych dla utworu fotograficznego, takich jak w szczególności: przedruk fotografii reporterskich, cytat, wykorzystanie w ramach satyry lub karykatury.
The photograph, after fulfillment of the statuary requirements constitutes a work – as defined in the Polish copyright law. The Legislator infinite the copyright for the overriding reasons, such as informing, or the right of access to the information. The article draws attention to the specifics of the rights appearing in the photographic work and purpose of this limitation. Special emphasis is being put on issues related to reprint of reporter’s photographs, citation, as well as the usage of photograph in satire and caricature.

Opis:
The article deals with a beauty of mathematics as a phenomenon, which can be approached both from the aesthetic and intellectual levels. It has been illustrated by the series of photographs which are visual representations of the selected mathematical objects. The aim of the paper is to outline chosen aspects of perception and understanding of the aesthetics of mathematics in the context of photographic exemplification of concepts and patterns. All presented photographs have been taken by the participants of International Photography Competition Mathematics in Focus. The competition is organized regularly since 2010 by the University of Szczecin, Poland. Its popularity is growing systematically, what is reflected in the number of participants submitting their works: in 2010 there were 400 people who participated in the competition whereas in 2015 the total amount of them surpassed 8000.
