Opis:
In philosophy, the man is conceived as a subject that can give true meaning to objects and events taking place, as a result of which he constantly creates himself. In addition to that, there are no criteria of external character which the man would be able to discover and, on their basis, mark the scope of his own responsibility. Furthermore, there are no external institutions either to which the man would be responsible because the only way to which he should be responsible is himself. According to Professor Wojciech Słomski the development of modern societies contributes to the complication of a network of mutual dependences. This situation also makes it difficult to identify an entity responsible for that as well as whom we are responsible to. An element which forces the man to responsibility is the truth. The fact that the ideas on the concept of the truth are important, not only from the philosophical point of view as they constitute for each one of us individually and for all of us together an indispensable element of orientation in the world which surrounds us, just proves how much it is worth. Today we assume that the truth comes from knowledge obtained from natural sciences, and the contradictions that arise at the interface between science and religion only make us seek the truth and understanding for the element of true knowledge even more. As it turns out, however, there is a growing circle of supporters who assume that both philosophy as well as other sciences without any major problems will cope without the truth and objective reality, which eventually blurs the line between strictly scientific theory and philosophy.

Opis:

Opis:
As the Author of this article demonstrates, natural law is the subject of research by many different sciences, especially by the philosophy of law. Natural law affects public aware- ness. Classification of the theories of natural law is based on the sources of this law, including the theory of variation and immutability of natural law. Grotius developed the concept of natural law and with it laid the foundations for international law. Not all saw this as being for the good, voicing opinion that natural law was of an immoral character.

Opis:
Philosophy is of historical and trans-cultural value, thus it is necessary and indispensable in the life of humans. The same applies on the field of educational upbringing. The article points to the relationships taking place in the personal development of man and philosophy. The matter is discussed in the light of objective philosophy (realistic) and subjective philosophy (postmodern). The latter claims that there are no objective, universal or rationally grounded theses. All is reduced to rational relativism and subjectivism. On these grounds the necessity of the personal development is non-existent; every deed or human behaviour is of the same value. Virtues and weaknesses are on the same level. Yet another approach to this vexed issue is presented by philosophy of realism, which claims the right and obligation of humans for development. This development presupposes natural and supernatural development. Human beings benefits from such development by reaching their individual perfection, achieving it by everyday work and according to their own inborn abilities. The struggle for self-development is a decisive factor. It can help the contemporary pedagogics see the need for forming humans themselves in the high-tech culture of today’s world. Taking into consideration the consequences of both the above mentioned philosophical trends, one should notice that the philosophy of realism - although it is thought to be old-fashioned and unpractical - cannot be discarded. This type of philosophy struggles for the real good of the man. Therefore, it should be taken into account when looking at human beings. One is not able to pursue a healthy human activity without sound philosophical principles.

Opis:
Philosophy of culture as a discipline exploring the way of human existence in the world is based on general metaphysics and philosophical anthropology. Taking into account the formal subject and the method, philosophy of culture is a type of metaphysical explanation that aims to indicate the final ontological reasons for the existence of culture, and therefore it is called the “metaphysics of culture.” The metaphysical perspective of explaining the phenomenon of culture is an original contribution to the contemporary discourse on culture. The understanding of culture requires solving the dispute about the understanding of the world, and above all about the understanding of human being. It is only in such a broad perspective that a fact of culture can be justified by pointing to its causative, exemplary and deliberate cause. in this context, the special attractiveness of the metaphysics of culture is revealed, which, paradoxically, manifests itself in the lack of autonomy in relation to general metaphysics and philosophical anthropology. Thanks to this, explanation of a fact of culture is placed in the field of cognitive realism, pluralism and in the context of understanding human being as a person. in this way, the metaphysics of culture provides a final justification (in the ontic order) of a fact of culture, while culture, as an intellectualization of nature, can form the basis for the particular aspects present in such rich forms in the area of the particular sciences.

Deliberations of German utilitarians about the personal sameness are based on the Anglo-Saxon concept. Views John Locke until today are performing the important part in the forming of contemporary German bioethics. This philosopher as one of the most important representatives of the British empiricism kept dissertations about the mind of the man. He proved that the personal identity wasn't dependent on financial substance, but only the criterion of the continuity and the cohesion of the memory that is the self-awareness is deciding on the humanity. Currently discussions about the status of the person are very popular. Kipke Roland, Dieter Birnbacher, Norbert Hurster, Helga Kuse and Klaus Steigleder are backing the concept up J. Locke and humanities agree with the statement that fixing one's attention on biological properties of a human being cannot to be an indisputable foundation. In this article I present not only the thought of German utilitarians, but also pay attention to the views that have been borrowed from the Anglo-Saxon philosophers. In conclusion, the present implications for learning arising from such understanding of humanity.

Purpose: The paper presents selected psychological concepts supporting the professional work of a coach as well as supporting representatives of other helping professions. The aim of the article is to indicate how many psychological sources are already present in coaching practice and to describe those which are most important for its practice. Design/methodology/approach: Coaching is a new form developmental approach to working and interacting with other people. In the article, I use the method of comparative analysis. Findings: According to the authors, it is an unjustified conclusion to connect coaching with only the humanistic-behavioral approach. Consequently, the authors’ aim is to convince the reader that coaching uses many psychological and psychotherapeutic approaches, while the aim of this text is to organize them and to indicate how various concepts can support coaches and other helping professionals. The first part of the article explains the concept of coaching and its relation to philosophy, psychology and psychotherapy. This is followed by a description of the psychological concepts and methods, with an indication of their possible application in coaching. Research limitations/implications: The research is limited to the analysis of the impact of broadly understood humanistic knowledge on the quality of the coach’s work and coaching as a modern/new form of helping profession. Practical implications: This text proves that coaching uses psychological concepts/positions and philosophical theories. These become a specific theoretical and scientific basis for coaching. Social implications: Coaching is a subdisciplinary practical discipline drawing from humanistic knowledge: psychological and sociological. Originality/value: Coaching is a new form of the helping professions. The article explains the concept of coaching and its relation to philosophy, psychology and psychotherapy. This is followed by a description of the psychological concepts and methods, with an indication of their possible application in coaching.

The author discusses the problem of abortion. He defines abortion as a deliberate and immediate killing of a human being before birth; he distinguishes it from spontaneous miscarriage or a situation where the child is allowed to die without this being intended, where the death is the result of causes not dependent upon acting persons—abortus indirectus. In order to morally evaluate the act of abortion, the author considers both the ontic status of the conceived human being and the criteria usually used for the evaluation.

This paper indicates that Professor Andrzej Nowicki’s central philosophical category in the concept of the human being is a human being categorized as the creator of the world of works. The works determine the value of human beings, the wealth of their personality; add value and give sense to their life; immortalize their name. A fundamental inspiration for this conception was derived by A. Nowicki from the philosophy of the Renaissance, particularly from such thinkers as Giannozzo Manetti, Giordano Bruno and Giulio Cesare Vanini.

Against the background of the model of the metaphysics of the person (presented in the article “The Existential Metaphysics of the Person. Part 1: The Classical Concept of the Person and the Metaphysical Theory of Esse,” Studia Gilsoniana 10, no. 2) which was initiated by Thomas Aquinas and developed in the Lublin Philosophical School, this paper focuses on the attempt to show the philosophical breakthrough that the concept of personal existence can bring, and points out the most important theoretical conse-quences of adopting this theory in metaphysics. It outlines the elements of a new meta-physics of the person, based on the concept of personal existence, and hypothesizes about the metaphysical turn this concept could make. The investigations undertaken in the paper lead to the conclusion that not all inferences have yet been drawn from the concept of esse personale, and that the entire depth of the metaphysics of existence has not yet been explored.
