In the following article entitled ‘On philosophical systems’, the author makes an attempt to answer the question: ‘What is a philosophical system?’ In the article he uses one of analytical approaches, which is manifested in the thesis: dealing with philosophy cannot be reduced to dealing with the history of philosophy. The author claims that the first thing takes on a problematic and constructive dimension and not only reproductive and reconstructive. Obviously, studying ancient ways of doing philosophy, their aims and methods, has a certain philosophical value (or cognitive – generally speaking). However, the philosophical analysis itself cannot be come down to studying the history of philosophy.

Tematem niniejszego artykułu są spory w filozofii polskiej w okresie bezpośrednio powojennym, czyli w latach 1945–1949. Przedstawiam w nim stan polskiej filozofii — orientacje stanowiące kontynuację stanowisk przedwojennych oraz nowe problemy i ich filozoficzne rozwiązania. Nie rozważam natomiast wzajemnego oddziaływania filozofii na inne sfery kultury, działalności polskich filozofów na emigracji i międzynarodowej recepcji filozofii polskiej.
The article investigates disputes within Polish philosophy of the postwar years (1945–1949). I characterize the state of Polish philosophy during the period mentioned — trends constituting continuation of the pre-war approaches as well as new problems and their solutions. I do not consider mutual interactions between philosophy and other spheres of culture, activities by Polish philosophers in exile or international reception of Polish philosophy.

The article discusses the essayistic work of Bolesław Miciński, who was interested in the individualization of the form of expression, both in the sphere of content and form. Contemporary thinking about philosophy in neo-positivist terms prompted the writer to create an individual dictionary of concepts that frees philosophy from rigorous frameworks and specialized jargon. In a modern, philosophical essay, he realizes a free reflection on aesthetic, philosophical, social and political issues (the relationship between art and politics). The authoress interprets the painting concept in Portret Kanta, remaining within the tricks and concepts used by the writer. The analysis of the creation of a philosophical and literary portrait, presented in the form of an essay, makes it possible to highlight the problems that the writer deals with — the issue of the existence of time in painting or the possibility of transposing concepts into images (utpictura poesis). From a polemic with the 18th-century aesthetic — Gotthold Ephraim Lessing — the authoress moves to the notion of “fugue” as a potential realization of space in music, which the writer mentioned in Podróże do piekieł. Moreover, he considers the form of a fugue in reference to classicism in literature. This sketch is an initial attempt to unravel the “hidden, significant knots” in the work of the interwar essayist.

In this article I endeavour to tackle the myth of Derrida’s untranslatability. First, I present the theoretical basis for my research – Henri Meschonnic’s poetics of translation. Then, I try to determine the factors which make translating Derrida’s texts difficult: the polysemy of his most important terms and the “terminological fields,” that is all the terms related to each other. Two examples of these fields support my argument. Finally, I analyse some Polish translations of Derrida’s text and show linguistic difficulties in Polish translations of La différance and other texts, where not only the Derridean style, but also grammar, vocabulary, and expertise in philosophy leave a lot to be desired.

The aim of the article is to analyze “criticism” and “understanding” in their relation to philosophical counseling. The article begins by the thesis on the need to define this type of counseling as an equivalent relationship between a counselor and a client. This claim is based mainly on the Socratic sense of the essence of philosophizing as a common pursuit of wisdom and cognition. Next, criticism and understanding which seem to be abstract concepts that belong to specific doctrines are considered as useful tools in the process of creating a philosophical attitude. In this sense, they acquire their existential aspect and prove useful in the practical application of philosophy.

Some Belarusian philosophical-allegoric novel renewal periods have been studied closely with the emphases on the historic, social and cultural heritage of different epochs. In the article, the decisive role of the Enlightenment French philosophical prose is noted in the development of the modern Belarusian philosophical-allegoric novel. The Enlightenment French philosophical-allegoric text is a model of reality, simple for understanding, with a fascinating adventure story, but with an obscure moral and philosophical attitude and didacticism. The 18th century philosophical-allegoric prose is distinguished by the parable form of narrative, which is characterized by moral and philosophical problems, global questions about the life and destiny of people, marked by didacticism, by a high degree of generalization, and the obligatory projection of the idea on the reader views. The article proves the influence of Montesquieu, Voltaire, and Diderot’ philosophical works on the development of the modern philosophical-allegoric novel in Belarusian literature. The article analyzes the poetics of Belarusian contemporary works of this genre taking into account the French traditions of the Enlightenment.

This paper is an enquiry on the role of the philosophy in the theology according to the representatives the Lublin Philosophical School. This article is divided into three parts. In the first chapter the development of the relationship between the philosophy and the theology is presented within its historical perspective. The second part accounts for Stanisław Kamiński’s considerations about this subject. This philosopher emphasises the logical and the methodological aspects of the role of that the philosophy is to play within the theology. In the last chapter a solution for the problem is offered by M.A. Krąpiec’s Philosophy. In M. A. Krąpiec’s system the philosophy can give the theology the correct concept of the world and the human being. According to this Thinkers only the classical philosophy is appropriate for the theological reflection.

Eugenics is a science that aims to promote and develop the innate qualities of the human species using the laws of genetic inheritance, making artificial selections of physical and mental traits, maintaining positive traits or removing those considered negative. In this paper we will illustrate the history of eugenics by touching on several points, from Plato’s early ideas to Galton’s founding of modern eu- genics, to the ideas of American proogressivism at the beginning of the 20th century, to the euge- nic programme implemented by Nazi Germany (AktionT4) during the Second World War, up to the present day with the development of genetic engineering technologies. The new eugenics, although based on science, continues to pursue the same goal as the old eugenics, the development of a superior individual and the elimination of those considered inferior.

The text poses the question about the possibility and the way of practising today’s philosophical pedagogy. For this purpose it refers to its 19th century example elaborated for pedagogy by the philosopher Bronisław F. Trentowski in his work Chowanna. In the discussion of this concept, the author of the text reflects on the renewed formula of philosophical pedagogy. She argues that scientific development of pedagogy is conducive to conducting a philosophical reflection within it and with its own initiative. In other words, the reflection on the sense of education and on the justification of methods of pedagogical impact, based on philosophical resources and on the research methods of humanities, performed in parallel to the empirical studies, helps pedagogy as a whole to fulfil its purpose. Also it protects pedagogy against politicisation, indoctrination and instrumentalisation of its subject. Philosophically reinforced pedagogy can also strengthen philosophy by providing it with in-depth knowledge of education taken from the rich educational thought of philosophers.

The philosophical basis of a legal system is the determinant factor of the content and focus of the legislation and judicial decision emanating from the legal system operating within the society. The focus of every legal system should be the pursuit of a society where men’s ambition is actualise within the purview of accepted norms and values guiding the people within the society. The aim of this paper is to examine the concept of morality and law, the intricate relationship between the two concepts and the moral contents in the Nigeria legal system. The methodology adopted is basically doctrinal with the primary source from various legislation and case laws. The secondary source includes articles in journal, internet sources, bible, etc. The paper concludes that there is no distinction between morality and the law but that the two concepts should be seen as complementary to each other in terms of regulating human behaviours. It is also our conclusion that a critical examination of Nigeria legal system through her legislations and judicial decisions is predicated on the basis that law and morality are two sides of the same coin.
