    In the first part of this paper the author presents her own path as a teacher. During her professional career she has met the Professor numerous times. The first time was when she was a geography student at the Jagiellonian University. The subsequent occasions occurred when she was a geography teacher in primary school and also as a PhD student of the didactics of geography. In main part of the paper the author presented the curriculum of the PhD studies in the field of didactics of geography at the Higher College of Teacher Training (now the Pedagogical University of Cracow). The author evaluated the above-mentioned curriculum from various points of view.

    In letzter Zeit ist das Interesse am Doktorandenstudium allgemein angestiegen, auch bei Germanistikstudenten. Infolgedessen ist die Nachfrage nach Lehrmaterialien für Doktoranden auch gewachsen. Mein eigenes Interesse am Studium auf der dritten Stufe hat mich dazu veranlasst, die Analyse im Bereich der für Doktoranden geeigneten Lehrmaterialien vorzunehmen. Das Ziel der Untersuchung war eines der verfügbaren, neulich veröffentlichten Lehrbücher für Studierenden der dritten Stufe zu analysieren, um den Inhalt dieser Publikation unter didaktischem und inhaltlichem Gesichtspunkt zu überprüfen. „Lehrmaterialien für Germanistik-Doktorandenkurse“ (2021) ist eine der jüngsten Veröffentlichungen, weshalb sie der Gegenstand der Besprechung ist. Es hebt sich auch von anderen Büchern für Doktoranden der Germanistik ab, da es das Ergebnis der internationalen Zusammenarbeit zwischen drei Universitäten aus Polen, aus der Tschechischen Republik und der Slowakischen Republik ist. Es richtet sich jedoch an alle, die sich für Germanistik-Doktorandenkurse interessieren, unabhängig von ihrem Herkunftsland. Kann das Buch gleichzeitig die Bedürfnisse von Dozenten und Doktoranden der Germanistik aus verschiedenen wissenschaftlichen Disziplinen (Literaturwissenschaft, Sprachwissenschaft, Kulturwissenschaft) erfüllen? Die Ergebnisse der Analyse zeigen, dass die Erstellung eines solchen thematisch umfassenden Buches dank internationaler Zusammenarbeit realisierbar ist. Nach der Analyse kann man zum Schluss kommen, dass es sich um ein Werk handelt, das für Studierende der Germanistik unabhängig von ihrer Spezialisierung von Nutzen ist.
    Recently, interest in doctoral studies picked up in general, including among German studies students. As a result, the demand for teaching materials for doctoral students has increased. My own interest in third-level study has prompted me to undertake an analysis of certain teaching resources suitable for doctoral students. The aim of the research was to analyze one of the available, recently published textbooks for PhD students in order to review this publication from a didactic and content point of view. “Lehrmaterialien für Germanistik-Doktorandenkurse” (2021) is one of the most recent publications, which is why it is the subject of the review. It also stands out from other books for doctoral students in German studies, as it is the result of international cooperation between three universities from Poland, the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic. It is aimed at anyone interested in doctoral courses of German studies, regardless of their home country. Is the book able to simultaneously meet the needs of lecturers and doctoral students of German studies from different academic disciplines (literature, linguistic and cultural studies)? The results of the analysis show that the production of such thematically comprehensive book is feasible thanks to international cooperation. After the analysis, it can be concluded that this is a work that is useful for students of German studies regardless of their specialization.

    The massification of higher education has changed the role and value of study and led to dissemination of doctoral studies. This article starts with an overview of the law-based and historical changes of the idea of third cycle studies, reflected in their organisation in Poland. We will indicate incoherence noticeable between curriculum and expected skills and knowledge. The perspective will let us outline some problems related to importance and significance of PhD studies in graduates careers – academic, as well as professional in general. In this context, we can also perceive current consequences in terms of identity of doctoral students and their place at the university.

    Artykuł prezentuje wnioski z badań dotyczących studiów doktoranckich w Polsce, będących częścią szerzej zakrojonego projektu badawczego na temat kreowania elit społecznych. Celem poznawczym przytaczanych badań był próba opisania i wyjaśnienia faktu społecznego, jakim jest kształcenie elitarne na poziomie wyższym. Z tego powodu należy naszkicować obraz ważneg i dotąd nieopisanego zjawiska na gruncie polskiej edukacji, czyli studiów doktoranckich w ich nowym kształcie. Nieobowiązująca już ustawa o szkolnictwie wyższym z dnia 27 lipca 2005 r. w Dziale IV, w Rozdziale 4 precyzyjnie przedstawiała sposób funkcjonowania studiów doktoranckich, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem praw i obowiązków doktoranta. Dzięki tym regulacjom przypominały one formalnie studia pierwszego i drugiego stopnia. Różnicowało je zaś coś, co można byłoby nazwać ich „misją”. Doktorant bowiem był potencjalnym kandydatem na pracownika naukowego, mającego być w przyszłości członkiem elity intelektualnej. Posiadał on predyspozycje (intelektualne, interpersonalne, społeczne, emocjonalne, a nawet fizyczne) umożliwiające pracę naukową, będące częścią jego kapitałów – społecznego, kulturowego czy finansowego. Od nich, według badaczy problemu stratyfikacji społecznej, zależał sukces życiowy i uniwersytecki, silnie związany z determinacją, motywacjami, ale też wsparciem osób trzecich (głównie promotora). Od 2011 r., a zatem wraz ze zmianą ustawodawstwa, forma kształcenia na poziomie studiów doktoranckich uległa zmianie. By jak najlepiej scharakteryzować fenomen studiów trzeciego stopnia, biorąc pod uwagę ich wartość i zadania, ale też praktykę uniwersytecką, i – być może – wskazać sposoby udoskonalenia tego modelu studiów, należy zasięgnąć opinii tych, którym analizowana forma kształcenia jest oferowana. Z tego powodu przedmiotem badań zostały identyfikacje i orientacje życiowe grupy 31 doktorantów z różnych polskich uniwersytetów, przedstawiane w wywiadach narracyjnych. Całość wniosków z badań zawiera oddana do druku monografia pt. Kształcenie elit społecznych? Studia doktoranckie w Polsce jako forma i potrzeba konstruowania zapoznanego mitu.
    In the academic year 2015/2016, there were more than 40,000 people studying for a Ph.D. in Poland. Set against the scale known from before the education boom of the 1990s, the figure is staggering. The fact that so many young people (not all of them young, as there is no age limit on education opportunities on any level) wish to be ever better educated and work their way up the academic ladder, may well be seen as a positive development. However, if public debate on the matter is anything to go by, it would seem that there are more downsides than advantages to this state of affairs: the devaluation of Master’s degrees, the mass character of the education process and the absence of genuine master-disciple relationships are but few of the disadvantages. Does the university matter, does it inform students’ life choices? It seemed worthwhile to get to know the answers to these questions, using the circumstances of Ph.D. students, their financial status, and the economic, social and cultural capital at their disposal, as reference points. Asking these questions gave me a pretext and a reason to undertake research in Poland as well as the best universities in the world (Harvard University, University of Oxford, Peking University and others). The survey of doctoral students, carried out between 2010 and 2013, is part of a more extensive programme concerning the education of social elites worldwide and bringing about social change. The programme in question comprises a variety of comparative and cultural themes: the manner in which doctoral studies are structured and conducted, the master-disciple relationship (not least in its historical aspect), the quality of education offered, social structure and its determinants. The research cited in the text comes from my book Kształcenie elit społecznych? Studia doktoranckie w Polsce jako forma i potrzeba konstruowania zapoznanego mitu [The Shaping of Social Elites? Doctoral Studies in Poland as a Form of Constructing an Obsolete Myth, and Expressing the Need for such a Myth]. The book is a complete report that covers many more problems and questions about doctoral studies’ system in Poland.

    This article discusses the scientific activity of the Rzeszów diocese in the years 1992−2017. It shows the formation of priests from seminary to solid formation and specialized studies, discusses the training of lay and religious catechists from the catechetical college, the supplementary master's studies to permanent formation and finally presents various forms of secular education in the Theological and Pastoral Institute in Rzeszow: doctoral seminars conducted by professors of the University of Warsaw, study of family theology taught by UPJP II in Cracow, BA and MA studies in family studies conducted by UR in Rzeszow, as well as Organist Study, Bible Study, University of the Third Age of the Diocese of Rzeszów. The scientific activities carried out by symposia, conferences and training, through publishing and media, are also important, especially through Radio Via.

    Przedmiot niniejszego artykułu stanowią dysertacje poświęcone Polsce, jej historii i kulturze, powstające na Wydziale Filozoficznym Uniwersytetu Wiedeńskiego w ramach dyscyplin humanistycznych w okresie 1872-1937. Dotychczasowe publikacje na ten temat dotyczą przede wszystkim Polaków zdobywających stopnie naukowe w Wiedniu, brakuje jednak kompletnej informacji bibliograficznej w tym zakresie. W niniejszym opracowaniu za punkt wyjścia przyjęto kryterium przedmiotowe, pragnąc zebrać dysertacje poświęcone tematyce polskiej, niezależnie od pochodzenia ich autora. Na podstawie spisów dysertacji z tego okresu znaleziono 143 prace, w tym najwięcej z historii (95), ponadto ze slawistyki, z geografii, germanistyki, muzykologii, historii sztuki, filozofii oraz antropologii i etnologii. Większości z przytoczonych prac (z pojedynczymi wyjątkami) nie uwzględnia jak dotąd retrospektywna Bibliografia polska 1901-1939, ani też Bibliografia polska XIX stulecia Karola Estreichera. Na podstawie mało dotychczas przebadanego źródła wiedzy, jakim są własnoręczne curriculum vitae doktorantów, przechowywane wraz z recenzjami rozpraw w wiedeńskim archiwum, przeanalizowano pochodzenie, drogę życiową i przebieg kariery naukowej niektórych mniej znanych autorów rozpraw. Artykuł prezentuje też wybrane sylwetki wiedeńskich profesorów, pod których kierunkiem powstawały prace poświęcone polskiej tematyce. Całość uzupełnia szczegółowy spis 143 dysertacji, w układzie chronologicznym z podziałem na poszczególne dyscypliny, ze wskazaniem możliwości dotarcia do prac obecnych w zbiorach wiedeńskiej Biblioteki Uniwersyteckiej.
    The present article discusses the academic dissertations related to Poland, its history and culture, written at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Vienna within the framework of humanistic disciplines between 1872-1937. The publications on the subject hitherto published address primarily biographies of well-known Poles pursuing their academic career in Vienna, but there is no relevant comprehensive bibliographical information available. The starting point for the present work is the subject criterion, which has resulted in a compilation of dissertations on Polish subjects regardless of the origin of their authors. On the basis of the lists of dissertations from the period in question, 143 relevant works have been found: the majority of the material on historical issues (95), followed by Slavic studies, geography, German studies, musicology, history of art, anthropology and ethnology. The bulk of the discussed works, with a few exceptions, is not included in the retrospective bibliography Bibliografia polska 1901-1939 and Bibliografia polska XIX stulecia by Karol Estreicher. Hand-written CVs submitted by PhD students of the University at the time, constituting the material of interest not addressed so far, provided an enormous source of information for the author. The CVs, along with reviews, are currently held in the Viennese archives. A close scrutiny of the material made it possible to analyse the social background, life and the professional career of some, hitherto lesser known, authors of the dissertations. The article also presents individual profiles of Viennese professors who were research supervisors to dissertations related to Polish subject matters. The article is complemented with a detailed annotated list of the 143 mentioned dissertations given in a chronological order and subdivided into particular disciplines with an indication of their availability in the collections of the university library in Vienna.

    Cel badań. Celem prowadzonym badań była analiza statusu prawnego doktoranta (uczestnika studiów doktoranckich) w świetle reformy szkolnictwa wyższego i nauki, w zakresie sposobu organizacji kształcenia, rekrutacji, praw i obowiązków oraz postępowania w sprawie nadania stopnia doktora nauk prawnych. Metoda badań. W toku prowadzonych badań wykorzystana została metoda dogmatyczno-prawna oraz elementy empirycznej w zakresie przeprowadzonej analizy orzecznictwa. Uwzględniona została materia normatywna, w szczególności przepisy ustawy – Prawo o szkolnictwie wyższym i nauce, i przepisy ją wprowadzające, a także przepisy dotychczasowej ustawy – Prawo o szkolnictwie wyższym. Wyniki badań. Przeprowadzone badania wykazały, że sytuacja prawna doktorantów jest uzależniona od roku akademickiego, w którym rozpoczęli studia doktoranckie, a także od dnia, w którym wszczęli postępowanie w sprawie nadania stopnia doktora nauk prawnych. Postępowanie w sprawie nadania stopnia doktora może odbywać się nie tylko na „starych” czy „nowych zasadach”, ale także w trybach mieszanych, w których reguły są modyfikowane tylko w określonych zakresach. Wnioski. Doktoranci powinni z uwagą zapoznać się ze zróżnicowanym stanem prawnym. Z uwagi na zmienione zasady i liczne wyjątki od wprowadzonych zmian istotne jest, aby upewnić się, jakiego dnia postępowanie zostało wszczęte i czy wszelkie formalności w tym zakresie zostały dopełnione. Ponadto w przypadku opóźnień w procesie tworzenia pracy doktorskiej, warto zwrócić uwagę na terminy graniczne, po których postępowanie zostanie umorzone albo zakończone.
    The object of the study. The purpose of the research was to analyze the legal status of PhD students in the light of the reform of higher education, in the areas of: the organization of education, recruitment, rights and obligations and proceedings in the matter of conferring the title of Doctor of the Juridical Science. Test method. In the course of the research, the dogmatic and legal method as well as empirical method elements in the scope of analysis of case law were used. The normative matter was taken into account, in particular the provisions of the Act - Law on higher education and science and regulations introducing it, as well as the hitherto existing Act - Law on higher education. Results. The research has shown that the legal situation of PhD students depends on the academic year in which they started their doctoral studies, as well as on the day on which they initiated proceedings in the matter of conferring the title of doctor of legal sciences. Proceedings to award doctoral degrees may take place not only according to "old" or "new rules", but also in mixed modes, in which the rules are modified only in certain areas. Conclusions. PhD students should pay attention to the varied legal status. Due to the changed rules and numerous exceptions to the changes introduced, it is important to make sure on which day the proceedings were initiated and whether all formalities in this respect have been complied with. In addition, in the event of delays in the process of creating a doctoral thesis, it is worth paying attention to the deadlines, after which the proceedings will be discontinued or terminated.

    Niniejsza glosa porusza problematykę postępowań prowadzonych przez wydziałowe komisje rekrutacyjne oraz inne organy uczelni wyższych. Autorzy zgadzają się z zaprezentowanym przez WSA stanowiskiem i podjętym rozstrzygnięciem. W ocenie autorów, organy administracji publicznej (I i II instancji) dopuściły się szeregu uchybień proceduralnych skutkujących potrzebą wyeliminowania wydanych decyzji administracyjnych z obrotu prawnego. Komentowany wyrok stanowi cenne źródło wiedzy zarówno dla stron postępowania, jak i organów administracji publicznej, w tym organów uczelni wyższych.
    This commentary raises the issues of proceedings conducted by faculty recruitment commissions and other university bodies. The Authors agree with the position presented by the Wojewódzki Sąd Administracyjny and the decision taken. According to the Authors, the public administration bodies (first and second instance) committed a number of procedural shortcomings that resulted in the need to eliminate administrative decisions issued from legal trading. The commented judgment is a valuable source of knowledge for parties to proceedings and public administration bodies, university bodies.

    W artykule zaprezentowano główne założenia form kształcenia doktorantów, realizowanych w Polsce na przestrzeni ostatnich piętnastu lat, w tym najnowszych, czyli szkół/kolegiów doktorskich, które, zgodnie z Ustawą 2.0, mogą być kreowane przez uczelnie w sposób autonomiczny. Różnorodność form nakłada się na proces różnicowania modeli uczelni w Polsce, a także odrębność tożsamościową i wzrastającą mobilność doktorantów, tworzących świat młodej nauki, oparty na, być może, innych zasadach i wartościach. Tekst jest próbą opisu zarówno modeli kształcenia, jak i specyfiki tej kategorii społecznej. W artykule znajdują się odwołania do wniosków z badań dotyczących doktorantów studiujących w Polsce i za granicą oraz dyskursu na temat jakości kształcenia doktorantów.
    This article analyses the concepts of forms of doctoral education implemented in Poland over the last fifteen years, including the most recent ones, i.e., doctoral schools/colleges, which are autonomously founded by universities, according to the provisions of new Law on Higher Education and Science. The diversity of forms is superimposed on the process of differentiation of models of HEIs in Poland, as well as creating new doctoral identity and increasing mobility of doctoral students who belong to a world of young science, which can be constructed on different principles and values. The author describes both the educational models and the specificity of this social category.  The article presents conclusions based on research about doctoral students in Poland and abroad and discourse on the quality of doctoral education.
