Opis:
Bilge keels are effective passive devices in mitigating the rolling motion, and the usage of them covers almost all the sea going vessels. This paper focuses on the viscous effect of the bilge keel, ignored the effect of the free surface and the effect of the ship hull, for the general viscous characteristic of the bilge keel. In order to investigate the viscous effect of the bilge keel on the total damping moment, a special 2 dimensional numerical model, which includes a submerged cylinder with and without bilge keels, is designed for the simulation of forced rolling. Three important factors such as bilge keels width, rolling periods, as well as maximal rolling angles are taken into account, and the viscous flow field around the cylinder is simulated by some codes based on the viscous method in different conditions, in which the three factors are coupled. Verification and validation based on the ITTC method are performed for the cylinder without bilge keels in the conditions of different rolling periods and maximal rolling angles. The primary calculation of damping moment induced by the cylinder with 0mm, 4mm, and 10mm width bilge keels shows some interesting results, and a systematic analysis is conducted. The analysis of the damping moment components suggests there is phase difference between the damping moment induced by the cylinder and the bilge keels, and when the bilge keels width reaches a special size, the total damping moment is mitigated. The calculation of the damping moments induced by the cylinder with some larger bilge keels are also performed, and the results suggest that, the damping moment induced by the bilge keels is increased rapidly and becomes the dominant part in the total damping moment while the width of the bilge keels are increased, but the damping moment induced by the cylinder is not changed significantly. Some illustration of the vortices formation and shedding is included, which is the mechanism of the damping moment caused by the bilge keels. The present work shows an interesting problem, and it is useful for the bilge keel design.

Opis:
We present an alternative method to detect and measure the concentration changes in liquid solutions. The method uses Digital Holographic Interferometry (DHI) and is based on measuring refractive index variations. The first hologram is recorded when a wavefront from light comes across an ordinary cylindrical glass container filled with a liquid solution. The second hologram is recorded after slight changing the liquid’s concentration. Differences in phase obtained from the correlation of the first hologram with the second one provide information about the refractive index variation, which is directly related to the changes in physical properties related to the concentration. The method can be used − with high sensitivity, accuracy, and speed − either to detect adulterations or to measure a slight change of concentration in the order of 0.001 moles which is equivalent to a difference of 0.003 g of sodium chloride in solutions. The method also enables to measure and calculate the phase difference among each pixel of two samples. This makes it possible to generate a global measurement of the phase difference of the entire sensed region.

Determination of the phase difference between two sinusoidal signals with noise components using samples of these signals is of interest in many measurement systems. The samples of signals are processed by one of many algorithms, such as 7PSF, UQDE and MSAL, to determine the phase difference. The phase difference result must be accompanied with estimation of the measurement uncertainty. The following issues are covered in this paper: the MSAL algorithm background, the ways of treating the bias influence on the phase difference result, comparison of results obtained by applying MSAL and the other mentioned algorithms to the same real signal samples, and evaluation of the uncertainty of the phase difference.

The thin metal film subjected to the ultra-short laser pulse is analyzed. Heat transfer processes occurring in the domain considered are described by the dual-phase lag model in which the unknown is the heat flux, not, as usual, temperature. This approach is especially convenient in the case of Neumann boundary conditions, which are taken into account here. The mathematical model supplemented by initial conditions is solved using the explicit scheme of finite difference method. In the final part of the paper the examples of computations are shown and the conclusions are formulated.

Opis:
The second-order dual phase lag equation (DPLE) as a mathematical model of the microscale heat transfer is considered. It is known that the starting point determining the final form of this equation is the generalized Fourier law in which two positive constants (the relaxation and thermalization times) appear. Depending on the order of the generalized Fourier law expansion into the Taylor series, different forms of the DPLE can be obtained. As an example of the problem described by the second-order DPLE equation, thermal processes proceeding in the domain of a thin metal film subjected to a laser pulse are considered. The numerical algorithm is based on an implicit scheme of the finite difference method. At the stage of numerical modeling, the first, second and mixed order of the dual phase lag equation are considered. In the final part of the paper, examples of different solutions are presented and conclusions are formulated.

Ground Penetrating Radar is commonly used in civil engineering sectors. Underground anomalies (i.e., electric wires, water pipes or sinkholes) can be detected through representations of hyperbolae in the measured processed GPR image. Our work focuses on detecting the underground objects and understanding their metallic or nonmetallic characteristics. The max energy difference attribute is applied to illuminate their positions while phase analysis process can determine change of phase spectrum in the diffracted signals. For improving phase analysis, we applied a novel workflow combining conventional processed steps and a zooming step for preserving phase originality without disturbed by any unnecessary filters. We applied the workflow in model and real data for proving its effectiveness. Interpretation of two real datasets in Vietnam by our workflow can express existences of the artificial underground anomalies as well as their matter characteristics comparing to their surrounding environments.
Aby usprawnić analizę fazową, zastosowaliśmy nowatorski przepływ pracy łączący konwencjonalne kroki przetwarzania i krok powiększania w celu zachowania oryginalności fazy bez zakłócania przez niepotrzebne filtry.

Vapor phase 2nd virial coefficient isotope effects (VCIE's) are interpreted. B is the second virial coefficient, bo = 2pi sigma3/3, sigma is the Lennard-Jones size parameter, and Delta is an isotopic difference, light-heavy. [ln(fc/fg)]* can be obtained from vapor pressure isotope effects for T/TCRITICAL < 0.7. Also (-VCIE) = ln(fp/fg 2), where ln(fp/fg 2) is the reduced isotopic partition function ratio describing the equilibrium between monomers and interacting pairs. At temperatures well removed from crossovers in ln(fp/fg 2) or [ln(fc/fg)]*, ln(fp/fg 2) = (0.4š0.2) [ln(fc/fg)]*.

This paper presents a series of new results on the asymptotic stability of discrete-time fractional difference (FD) state space systems and their finite-memory approximations called finite FD (FFD) and normalized FFD (NFFD) systems. In Part I of the paper, new necessary and sufficient stability conditions have been given in a unified form for FD, FFD and NFFD-based systems. Part II offers a new, simple, ultimate stability criterion for FD-based systems. This gives rise to the introduction of new definitions of the so-called f-poles and f-zeros for FD-based systems, which are used in the closed-loop stability analysis for FD-based systems and, approximately, for FFD/NFFD-based ones.

The dual-phase lag equation (DPLE) is considered. This equation belongs to the group of hyperbolic PDE, contains a second order time derivative and higher order mixed derivative in both time and space. From the engineer’s point of view, the DPLE results from the generalized form of the Fourier law. It is applied as a mathematical model of thermal processes proceeding in the micro-scale and also in the case of bio-heat transfer problem analysis. At the stage of numerical computations the different approximate methods of the PDE solving can be used. The purpose of the research is to prepare a mathematical and numerical model for the phenomenon of heat transfer during cryopreservation. In the paper, two popular methods, slow freezing and vitrification, are compared. Furthermore, the basic model of thermal processes is supplemented by the phenomenon of phase transitions. To determine the temperature distribution during cryopreservation processes, one uses the heat transfer equation proposed by Pennes. An integral part of the energy equation is the substitute thermal capacity (STC) performed according to the concept named one domain method (fixed domain method), The numerical model is developed using the finite difference method (FDM) connected with directed interval arithmetic. Opis:
The 1D dual-phase lag equation (DPLE) is solved using the implicit FDM scheme. The dual phase lag equation is the hyperbolic PDE and contains a second order time derivative and higher order mixed derivative in both time and space. The DPLE results from the generalization of the well known Fourier law in which the delay times are taken into account. So, in the equation discussed, two positive parameters appear. They correspond to the relaxation time τq and the thermalization time τ T. The DPLE finds, among others, the application as the mathematical description of the thermal processes proceeding in the micro-scale. In the paper, the numerical solution of DPLE based on the implicit scheme of the FDM is presented. The authors show that a such an approach in the case of DPLE leads to the unconditionally stable differential scheme.
