    The negative refractions are discussed in detail to demonstrate two different two-dimensional photonic crystal structures that undergo negative refractions associated with the backward-wave and forward-wave phenomenon, respectively. The presentation of the left-handed property of effective negative index photonic crystal is followed by a discussion of a backward flowing phase and causality. The forward-wave negative refraction occurs in photonic crystals as a result of anisotropy. This paper is based on the theoretical analysis and is illustrated with the results of finite element method simulations.

    Opis:
    Most researches of network reliability generally assume that the system structures do not change with time. This paper presents the concept of multi-phase network systems (MPNS) to consider dynamic characteristics of networks, and analyze the reliability of MPNS. MPNS reliability is evaluated through a cross-phase binary decision diagram (BDD). The BDD-based algorithm can act as a platform to consider various components behaviors such as repair and growing pressure. Case study shows that the proposed MPNS concept is an effective description of some practical communication networks, and the cross-phase BDD model is efficient in analyzing MPNS reliability.
    Większość badań niezawodności sieci ogólnie przyjąć, że struktury systemu nie zmieniają się w czasie. W artykule przedstawiono koncepcję systemów sieciowych wielofazowych (MPNS) rozpatrywanie dynamicznych właściwości sieci i analizy niezawodności MPNS. MPNS niezawodność jest oceniany przez cross-fazowego schematu decyzyjnego binarny (BDD). Algorytm z siedzibą w BDD może działać jako platforma do rozważenia różnych komponentów zachowań, takich jak naprawy i rosnącej presji. Studium przypadku pokazuje, że proponowana koncepcja MPNS jest skutecznym opis niektórych praktycznych sieci komunikacyjnych, a cross-fazowego modelu BDD jest skuteczny w analizie MPNS niezawodność.

    W pierwszej części artykułu omówiono, wykonywane rutynowo, laboratoryjne analizy fazowe węglowodorowych płynów złożowych (tzw. badania PVT), tj.: badanie kontaktowe, badanie różnicowe, badanie odbioru gazu do stałej objętości i badanie separacji. Opisano krótko budowę typowej aparatury do prowadzenia badań PVT. Omówiono podstawy wykonywania poszczególnych badań wraz z wizualizacją ich przebiegu w postaci schematów oraz przedstawiono określane na ich podstawie istotne parametry płynów złożowych. Skomentowano również stosowność wykonywania tego typu analiz oraz ich znaczenie dla prowadzenia sprawnego i efektywnego wydobycia węglowodorów.
    The first part of the article discusses routine laboratory phase behavior studies of hydrocarbon reservoir fluids (so-called PVT tests) such as constant mass expansion, differential liberation, constant volume depletion and separation tests. The construction of typical equipment for conducting PVT is briefly described. The basics of performing PVT test is discussed along with the visualization of the process in the diagrams, and the important parameters of the reservoir fluids determined on their basis, are presented. The appropriateness of performing such analyzes and their significance for efficient and effective hydrocarbon production is also commented on.

    Określenie relacji między ciśnieniem, objętością i temperaturą (PVT) płynów węglowodorowych jest niezbędne do szacowania zasobów, prowadzenia symulacji złożowych, prognozowania wydobycia, poznania hydrauliki przepływu, ustalania warunków separacji cieczy i gazu, projektowania instalacji wydobywczych oraz przesyłowych. Znajomość przemian fazowych i umiejętność korzystania z przedstawiających je diagramów fazowych wpisuje się w podstawowe kompetencje specjalistów odpowiedzialnych za prawidłowe zagospodarowanie i eksploatację złóż węglowodorów. Umiejętność predyktywnej analizy zachowania fazowego płynów węglowodorowych jest niezwykle istotna w inżynierii naftowej i gazowniczej z dwóch głównych powodów. Po pierwsze, zachowanie fazowe płynów węglowodorowych rozpatrywane jest w skrajnie zróżnicowanym zakresie ciśnień – od ciśnienia atmosferycznego do ciśnienia przekraczającego 1000 bar, i temperatur – od ultraniskich (–170°C w przypadku LNG) do nawet 200°C. W tym zakresie płyn węglowodorowy może występować w jednej z trzech głównych faz, to jest stałej, ciekłej i gazowej, lub – co gorsza – w dowolnej ich kombinacji. Dlatego tak istotne jest zrozumienie interakcji między przepływającym płynem a poszczególnymi elementami systemu wydobywczego, obejmującego złoże, rury wydobywcze, separatory, pompy, kompresory, rurociągi transmisyjne itp. Po drugie, podczas wydobycia często zajmujemy się płynami węglowodorowymi o skomplikowanych składach chemicznych, w przypadku których zależność między składem a właściwościami termodynamicznymi jest bardzo silna. W publikacji, będącej drugą częścią serii pt.: Analizy PVT jako skuteczne narzędzie w rękach inżyniera naftowego, omówiono teoretyczne podstawy przemian fazowych węglowodorowych płynów złożowych. Przedstawiono diagramy fazowe dla poszczególnych typów płynów węglowodorowych wraz z nakreśleniem przebiegu przemian fazowych zachodzących podczas ich eksploatacji. Omówiono parametry charakteryzujące dany typ płynu złożowego oraz ich zmienność związaną między innymi z przemianami fazowymi zachodzącymi w trakcie wydobycia. Przedstawiono również zasadność wykorzystania diagramów fazowych w konkretnych przypadkach złożowych.
    Determination of the relationship between pressure, volume and temperature (PVT) of hydrocarbon fluids is necessary for conducting reservoir simulations, resource estimations, production forecasting and production and transmission installation design. The knowledge of phase transformations and the ability to use the phase diagrams depicting them is part of the basic competences of specialists responsible for the proper development and exploitation of hydrocarbon deposits. The ability of predictive analysis phase behavior of hydrocarbon fluids is extremely important in oil and gas engineering for two main reasons. Firstly, the phase behavior of hydrocarbon fluids is considered in a extremely wide range of pressures – from atmospheric pressure to exceeding 1000 bar and temperatures – from ultra-low (–170°C in the case of LNG) to even 200°C. Within these ranges, the fluid can transcend the three principal phases, namely gas, liquid, and solid, and worse yet, any combination of these. That is why it is so important to understand the interaction between the flowing fluid and individual elements of the production system including the reservoir, tubing, separators, pumps, compressors, transmission pipelines, etc. Secondly, during production we are often dealing with hydrocarbon fluids with a complex chemical composition, where the relationship between their composition and thermodynamic properties is very strong. This paper, which is the second part of the series titled: PVT analyses as an effective tool in the hand of the petroleum engineer, discusses the theoretical basis of the hydrocarbon reservoir fluids phase behaviour. Phase diagrams for individual types of hydrocarbon fluids along with a sketch of the phase changes taking place during their production are presented. The parameters characterizing a given type of reservoir fluid and their variability related to, among others, phase changes occurring during production are discussed. The importance of using phase diagrams in specific reservoir cases are also presented.

    The most important aspect of laboratory analysis is undoubtedly to acquire data of the highest quality. The worldwide trend of drilling into deeper reservoirs characterised by the high temperature and high pressure (HTHP) conditions makes the newly discovered reservoirs challenging because of bearing fluids with an unprecedented diversity of phase behaviour and variability of phase parameters over time. Due to the high temperature of the deep horizons constituting the reservoir rock, many individual components of the reservoir fluids are located in a region close to their critical temperatures, i.e. gas condensate (retrograde condensation region) or volatile oil. In particular, gas condensate reservoirs are challenging to analyse. They are highly prone to the errors resulting from phase behaviour testing when using samples that are incompatible with the original reservoir in-situ fluid that saturates the reservoir rock pores. Taking the representative samples of reservoir fluid is an essential requirement to obtain reliable data that can characterise such phase-variable multicomponent reservoirs. The primary purpose of hydrocarbon fluid analysis in case of new discoveries is to determine the type of reservoir fluid system. It should also be borne in mind that without a sufficiently long production process from several intervals and/or several wells, it can be challenging to classify the fluid with confidence, especially at the initial analysis stage. The paper presents issues related to sampling of the reservoir fluid (such as crude oil and natural gas) for the physical property and phase behaviour analyses (PVT), usually accompanied by chemical analyses. The importance of representativeness of the samples in performing reliable tests that have a significant impact on the hydrocarbon production was discussed. The data obtained from the PVT laboratory are widely used in economic reports concerning local, regional or finally national hydrocarbon reserves. Other applications of the PVT data include coordination of reservoir exploitation methods related to a particular fluid composition, as well as input to design requirements for the surface facilities development, and selection of the suitable technology for hydrocarbon fluid treatment prior to introduction to the market. Various techniques of downhole sampling were mentioned and characterised with an explanation of their applicability. The criteria for selection of a proper method were also presented.

    TiNi alloys have excellent shape memory properties and corrosion resistance as well as high biocompatibility. This study investigated the effects of copper addition on the phase transitions and electrochemical corrosion behaviors of Ti50Ni50-xCux alloys. TiNi, Ti50Ni47Cu3, Ti50Ni44Cu6, and Ti50Ni41Cu9 alloys were prepared using vacuum arc remelting followed by 4 h homogenization at 950°C. Differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffraction analyses were conducted. The corrosion behaviors of the alloys were evaluated using potentiodynamic polarization test in Hank’s balanced salt solution at a temperature of 36.5 ± 1°C. The TiNi alloy showed phase transitions from the cubic B2 phase to the monoclinic B19’ phase when the alloy was thermally cycled. The addition of copper to the TiNi alloy played a major role in stabilizing the orthorhombic B19 phases during the phase transitions of Ti50Ni50-xCux alloys. The shifts in the corrosion potential toward the positive zone and the low corrosion current density were affected by the amount of Cu added. The corrosion resistance of the TiNi alloy increased with increasing copper content.

    The main objective of this research is to examine the influencing parameters of driver performance through the yellow phase at urban signalized intersections with and without red-light running (RLR) cameras. Data were collected to include the intersection type, vehicle type, turning movement type, whether the vehicle position is in a platoon or not, presence of RLR cameras, green light flash devices, pedestrians, and pavement markings. A total of 2168 driver observations were extracted. Only 33.3% of the drivers stopped before the stop line, 59% of the drivers passed the intersection through the yellow phase, and 7% of the drivers committed RLR violations. The results showed that drivers were more likely to stop before the stop line through the yellow phase at locations with RLR cameras, green light flash devices, pavement markings, where pedestrians were present, and at a four-leg intersection. Chi-square tests indicated that all parameters had a significant impact on driver performance, except for the type of turning movement.

    Tilted columnar dendritic morphologies are usually existed in wire and laser additive manufactured parts of GH3039 alloy. Overgrowth behaviors induced by the tilted dendritic arrays with a large tilted angle, and the effect of the angle between the growth direction and the direction vertical locally to the solid substrate on primary spacing, solute concentration and morphological evolution have been investigated at both the converging and the diverging grain boundaries through the phase-field simulation. The formation of cracking depends on solidification behaviors including columnar dendrites growth and micro-segregation in the interdendritic region. Furthermore, the effect of the tilted columnar dendrites on the susceptibility of crack is investigated during wire and laser additive manufacturing.
