Opis:
Based on geochemical data of the Oligocene Menilite Shales in the Boryslav–Pokuttya, Skole (Skyba), Silesian (Krosno) and Dukla units in the Carpathians, between Krosno and Styi towns, 1D modelling of generation and expulsion processes of hydrocarbons has been carried out. These strata are characterized by mostly high organic matter content, the total organic carbon (TOC) content reaching up to 26 wt.%. The highest hydrocarbon potential was recorded in the Boryslav–Pokuttya and Skole units. Organic matter in the Skole (Skyba) Unit is immature; in turn, in the Boryslav–Pokuttya, Silesian (Krosno) and Dukla units it is mature enough for generating hydrocarbons. Results of the modelling reveal that during the deposition of flysch in all the above mentioned Outer Carpathian units the Menilite source rocks did not reach a level of thermal maturity high enough to generate hydrocarbons. Conditions of hydrocarbon generation were obtained in the thrusting stage of the Outer Carpathians. In general, the process of hydrocarbon generation began at depths of less than 2 km in the Polish part, and about 4 km in the Ukrainian part. The kerogen transformation level reached from 10% to to complete transformation as in the Suche Rzeki IG 1 well. The results of the modelling of hydrocarbon generation and expulsion from the source rocks of all the units reveal that the highest maturity and the highest generation potential were obtained by the Menilite Shales in the Silesian and Dukla units.

The scheme in which the Carpathians, Carpathian Foredeep and Polish Lowland are distinguished as the hydrocarbon prospective zones was used hitherto in Poland. Good geological diagnosis of Poland area enables to distinguish the petroleum provinces in terms of basin analysis (methodology). This procedure are based on an integration of multidisciplinary geological and geophysical data with into a petroleum play concept. Results of drillings and petroleum play procedures allow to predict boundaries of petroleum provinces. Effects of basin analysis with regards to the stratigraphy of hydrocarbon-bearing areas are presented in Figure 1. All these prospective areas (Fig. 1) have been matched into five independent units (Fig. 2) which could be defined as following petroleum provinces: Pomerania, Wielkopolska, Ma3opolska, Lublin and Gdansk. These petroleum provinces are only the parts of sedimentary basins the individual development of which enabled generation, migration and preservation of hydrocarbons. Location of the above mentioned petroleum provinces is also brightly reflected on the map of crustal consolidation (Fig. 3): every province in Poland has its own individual geologic history.

Opis:
Shale gas is one of the well-known unconventional resources of natural gas all over the world. This term refers to natural gas that is trapped within shale formations. Shales are fine – grained sedimentary rocks which can be reach resources of both petroleum and natural gas. This sedimentary rocks are heavily layered and in their nature exhibit VTI velocity anisotropy behavior (Van Dok et al. 2011). This statement indicates that the world among us is not isotropic and we should not neglect this fact in our geophysical research. Anisotropy, in general is the property of the material. It can be described as the attribute of a material’s property with respect to the direction in which it is measured (Pereira & Jones 2010). There are two essential types of anisotropy: VTI and HTI. Vertical velocity layering gives rise to VTI (vertical transverse isotropy) velocity in which seismic wave velocity is faster in the horizontal direction than in the vertical one. The second type of isotropy is horizontal transverse isotropy (HTI) which causes azimuthal traveltime variations. The common mechanism for this type of anisotropy is vertical aligned fractures in an isotropic background medium (Jenner 2011.) Authors of this study focused mostly on VTI as this type of anisotropy is present in shale formations, as a result of small scaled heterogeneities from fine layering (Thomsen 1986). The VTI anisotropy can be mathematically described by using three Thomsen parameters: epsilon, delta and gamma. Epsilon is a measure of the difference between the horizontal and vertical propagation velocities for compressional waves. Gamma parameter is a measure of the difference in the horizontal and vertical propagation velocities for horizontally polarized shear waves (SH waves). Delta parameter is not easily described either mathematically or qualitatively (Pereira & Jones 2010), but it influences the anisotropy velocities in medium incidence angles. These parameters can be mathematically expressed by equations proposed by Leon Thomsen (Thomsen 1986). In this study, authors present influence of VTI anisotropy on microseismic data recorded during hydraulic fracturing of shale intervals in one of the well located in Northern Poland. Authors points out how the anisotropy affects on microseismic events location, locating them in isotropic and anisotropic velocity models with usage of TGS algorithm. Furthermore, authors indicate possible solution to estimate VTI parameters based on microseismic data. VTI anisotropy parameters plays critical role not only in case of microseismic data analysis but also in processing of active seismic data. Authors proved that VTI anisotropy present in the investigated area has strong influence on microseismic events location especially in depth. Moreover estimation of VTI anisotropy parameters based on microseismic data with usage of Thomsen equations is possible.

Ultrasonic irradiation is one of the advanced oxidation methods used in wastewater treatment. In this study, ultrasonic treatment of petroleum refinery effluent was examined. An ultrasonic homogenizator with a 20 kHz frequency and an ultrasonic bath with a 42 kHz frequency were used as a source for ultrasound. The effects of parameters such as ZnO amount, ozone saturation time, and type of ultrasound source on the degradation of petroleum refinery effluent were investigated. The degradation of petroleum refinery effluent was measured as a change in initial chemical oxygen demand (COD) and with time. According to the results, degradation increased with the addition of ZnO in an ultrasonic probe. There was also a positive effect of ozone saturation before sonication then applying ultrasound on the degradation for an ultrasonic probe. It was observed that there was no positive effect of ZnO addition and ozone saturation on degradation for an ultrasonic bath.

Opis:
The Polish part of the Baltic region is located within the contact zone between two large geological units: the Precambrian platform and the Paleozoic platform. It comprises the Polish sector of the southern Baltic Sea and the adjacent onshore part of Northern Poland (Western and Eastern Pomerania). The fundamental geological pattern is defined by the Teisseyre-Tornquist Zone, separating the East European Craton from the Paleozoic platform. As a result of exploration activity in the onshore Pomerania region, four oil fields in Cambrian sandstones, seven gas fields in Carboniferous sandstones, six gas fields in Rotliegend sandstones, and eleven oil fields within the Zechstein Main Dolomite horizon have been discovered. The petroleum play of the southern Baltic Sea region and adjacent areas must be considered separately for Eastern and Western Pomerania. In the Peribaltic Syneclise we can only take into consideration organic matter appearing in lower Paleozoic rocks but their geothermal history refers to the period from the Vendian up to the recent. The present extent of the "oil window" in the Upper Cambrian rocks is mainly restricted to the offshore area. Reservoir properties of the "gas window" Cambrian rocks are rather low due to intensive diagenetic processes. Acquisition of gas should be possible by processes of hydraulic stimulation (tight gas). Lower Paleozoic rocks rich in organic matter (Ordovician and Silurian), especially in the border zone of the EEC (Ro >>gt; 1.3%), could be an area of unconventional gas fields (shale gas). The Western Pomerania petroleum play shows two separate source rocks units. The older one embraces Carboniferous deposits with organic matter of terrestrial origin and generated gases accumulated in the Rotliegend and Carboniferous traps. The second petroleum system is located within the carbonates of the Zechstein Main Dolomite (Ca2). This is a closed system, meaning that the source rocks are at the same time the reservoirs sealed by Zechstein evaporates. Hitherto discovered hydrocarbon deposits in the Polish part of the Baltic region have confirmed good perspectives regarding oil and gas hydrocarbon zones. New, conventional and unconventional discoveries remain possible.

Opis:
In petroleum operations, the safety management and the uncertainty management have traditionally been completely separated functions. The two disciplines are to large extent based on different scientific pillars and it has been difficult to obtain an integrated approach. However, the recent introduction of risk perspectives highlighting the uncertainty component of risk has provided an improved basis for development of such an approach. By seeing risk as the two-dimensional concept covering events and consequences on the one hand side and uncertainties on the other, the content and boundaries of risk assessments are changed. The gap between the two disciplines can to large extent be bridged. The purpose of the present paper is to present and discuss an integrated framework for these disciplines and traditions, based on this risk perspective. An example is included to show the practical implications of the framework.

The paper presents studies on oil removal from soil by means of water elution with a help of shaking out the contaminants from the soil. The tests were performed on simulated soil samples contaminated with a mixture of petroleum hydrocarbons. The study consisted in recording the time influence and the number of elution cycles to remove contaminants from the soil. The samples were then subject to the determination of petroleum hydrocarbons, aliphatic hydrocarbons, and BTEX compounds (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene). Due to adding various concentrations of petroleum into particular soil samples and applying different shaking times, it was possible to find out the impact of petroleum content and sample shaking duration on the course and possibility of petroleum substances removal by means of elution process.

Creation of rain sewer is connected with dehydration of roads and coexisting objects. The paper presents a discussion upon the issue of groundwater contamination by petroleum compounds and other pollutants from transport based on studies of groundwater within the parking lots. The study included 9 parking areas, including 7 in Bialystok, 1 in a residential area outside of Bialystok in Ignatki, and one in Kleosin. The tested waters were subject to determination of COD, total suspension, and petroleum substances expressed as a mineral oil index. The studies have shown that the concentrations of determined parameters were in most cases proportional to the larger runoffs and concentration of petroleum compounds increased with the increase of suspension. It has been shown that from part of the parking lots, the meteoric water was discharged directly into watercourses and exceeds the permissible limits regulated by the Decree.

Subject of this work was carrying out researches on removal of petroleum derivates in laboratory stripping tower. In researches model water was used, which was mixture of distilled water and petrol and diesel fuel mix in ratio of 1 to 3, next it was submitted to aeration. Repelling of petroleum derivatives was med in 4 series, starting researches from minimal concentration 0,132 µg/dm3 to 3,992 µg/dm3. Level of each concentration resulted from concentrations found in underground and superficial water based on researches made by authoress. As a result of stripping process outcomes were between 53,9 and 82,7%, lowest effects were achieved in III series – 44,8%. Observation was made, that during the process petroleum derivatives was removed gradually in III series, meanwhile in other series from the beginning high level of reduction was reached. Carried out stripping of petroleum hydrocarbons from water to air confirms relatively efficient method enabling lowering of their content to safe level. This process can be used to treatment of underground and superficial water with wide range of concentrations.

The aim of the work was to elaborate new method of wool entrapping into silica alginate beads and checking of their adsorption properties. The purpose of the present study was also to determine water bioremediation efficiency using Pseudomonas aeruginosa cells immobilized into wool entrapped into silica-alginate beads. The results of study showed that obtained capsules are stable in saline water environment. Additionally neither silica adsorbers nor wool impacted negatively on viability of bacterial strains that were entrapped into these capsules. Moreover, it should be underline that 83,01% of adsorbed engine oil has been degraded by immobilized microorganisms after 3 months of biodegradation process. The results proved that properties and non-toxic character of these beads are suitable enough to use them in purification of water from petroleum hydrocarbons.
