    The purpose of the paper is to present the importance of locally embedded personal relationships and individuals’ networks for the rise of small and medium enterprises (SMEs)’ opportunities in the internationalisation process (especially the market entry phase) as well as their international operations and growth. Above all, the aim of the article is to answer the question what is influencing the actual impact of these resulting opportunities on internationalisation and growth. This paper adopts both a conceptual and empirical approach to the problem based upon a critical review of pertinent literature. Two case studies of companies from industries representing different levels of technological advancement, that is the furniture industry and IT industry, are presented.The theoretical and empirical analysis presented in the article points to the fact that relationships simultaneously facilitate opportunity recognition and themselves constitute such an opportunity. The analysis carried out as part of the case study proves that main factors determining the rise of the opportunity based on locally embedded personal relationships are trust and mutual understanding, in this way emphasising the importance of relational embeddedness. At the same time the realisation of these opportunities and therefore their impact on the internationalisation process and a company’s growth requires additional social factors (an entrepreneurial attitude) as well as economic factors (such as quality and competitive prices).

    The life of Wanda Malczewska provides a perfect example of how a life of contemplation, or vita contemplativa, can be harmoniously combined with one of social action, or vita activa. This distinguished Polish mystic, born in Radom in 1822, always managed to reconcile prayer and personal communion with God with her work on behalf of others. Malczewska was both an ardent Christian and a patriot. Her love of God and of her neighbours impelled her to perform acts of mercy on a large scale, bringing relief to those in need, and in this work she was tireless: she taught children and teens, with a view towards their future; she gave financial help to those who couldn’t afford schooling; she cared for and supported the broken in spirit; she instructed the unskilled; she acted as mediator, reconciling embittered married couples and feuding neighbours. In a word – she was an extraordinary character, completely devoted to serving God and her fellows. She lived in times that were difficult for Poland and the Polish people, when their country had been partitioned. This fact further hindered the many difficult tasks she had set herself, for the occupying powers introduced various restrictions aimed at weakening or eliminating Polish culture. At the time of her death in 1896, Wanda Malczewska was already popularly considered to be a saint. Efforts to have her so declared officially were commenced in 1924 by Father Grzegorz Augustynik, who had known Malczewska personally and was convinced of her saintliness. On 26 June 2006, Pope Benedict XVI authorised the promulgation of a decree on the heroic virtues of Servant of God Wanda Malczewska. This was an important decision in light of the efforts being made to bring the process of beatification of this exceptional person to a fruitful conclusion.

    The purpose of this essay is to present Paul Cazin and his important role in the cultural relations between Poland and France from the early years of the XXth century. He discovered Polish language and literature through the contact with the great protector of artists Raczyński’s family. From the very beginning relationship and friendship were the base of his literary intrest and fascination. He managed to introduce Polish works into literary awarness of French readers. Cazin was the translator of Polish novels during three periodes — the “Young Poland” (before the I world war), the Independent Poland (1918–1939) and then the difficult time of the Soviet domination after 1945. In his lectures and critical studies he wanted to present to the French public the latin tradition and european origines of Polish civilisation. His greatest achievement was the Frech version of romantic masterpiece Pan Tadeusz (1934) and his last works concerning Breza’s novels (1962–1963).

    The success of the atheistic hiddenness argument depends on the “consciousness constraint” it imposes on the divine-human loving relationship: namely, that this relationship requires human conscious awareness of being in the relationship with God. I challenge the truth of this proposition by introducing the concept of a physical relationship with God that is not subject to this constraint. I argue, first, that a physical relationship with God is metaphysically possible; second, that its plausibility is supported by natural theology; and third, that a perfectly loving God would prefer physical relationships with human beings over consciousness-constrained relationships, because a perfectly loving God would prefer to preserve the integrity of human freedom of participation and allow inclusion of all people regardless of their natural cognitive capabilities. I also offer an interpretation of apparent divine hiddenness in the light of the idea of God’s openness for physical relationships.
    Boża otwartość na fizyczną relację Powodzenie ateistycznego argumentu z ukrycia zależy od „przymusu świadomości”, jaki nakłada on na bosko-ludzką relację miłosną, tj. warunku świadomości bycia w relacji z Bogiem. Podważam prawdziwość tego twierdzenia, wprowadzając koncepcję fizycznej relacji z Bogiem, która nie podlega temu przymusowi. Twierdzę, po pierwsze, że fizyczna relacja z Bogiem jest metafizycznie możliwa; po drugie, że jej wiarygodność jest poparta teologią naturalną; i po trzecie, że doskonale kochający Bóg wolałby fizyczne relacje z ludźmi niż relacje ograniczone świadomością, ponieważ doskonale kochający Bóg wolałby zachować integralność ludzkiej wolności uczestnictwa i umożliwić włączenie wszystkich ludzi bez względu na ich naturalne zdolności poznawcze. Proponuję również interpretację pozornej boskiej skrytości w świetle idei otwarcia Boga na relacje fizyczne.

    Procesy tworzenia i wykorzystywania przez ludzi publicznych autowizerunków są opisywane i wyjaśniane przez teorie autoprezentacji, koncentrujące się na motywach, strategiach i efektywności zachowań mających na celu kierowanie wrażeniem wywieranym na innych ludziach. Teorie te w niewielkim stopniu dotykają głębszych, skomplikowanych mechanizmów psychologicznych, wielorakich, w większości pozaosobowych uwarunkowań oraz dalekosiężnych, także etycznych konsekwencji autowizerunków, jakie ludzie kreują w świecie społecznym. Takie mechanizmy, uwarunkowania i konsekwencje przedstawiają psychologiczne teorie maski, zainicjowane przez Carla Gustava Junga i wciąż rozwijane. Psychologiczne teorie maski, posiadające szerszy zakres niż teorie autoprezentacji, wskazują szerokie spektrum uwarunkowań tworzenia i stosowania masek, definiowanych zwykle jako składnik osobowości reprezentujący „ja” w świecie społecznym. Uwarunkowania te można skategoryzować jako ewolucyjne, egzystencjalne, historyczno-kulturowe, społeczne i indywidualne. W tworzenie i stosowanie maski zaangażowane są specyficzne procesy emocjonalne, motywacyjne i poznawcze. Maska jest narzędziem prezentowania „ja” w świecie zewnętrznym, które zarazem ochrania „ja” i je kształtuje. Jej używanie może mieć różne konsekwencje, które – niezależnie od tego, czy są pozytywne, czy negatywne – mają wymiar etyczny. Do konsekwencji negatywnych należą: niezdolność budowania autentycznych relacji z innymi ludźmi, zahamowanie rozwoju indywidualnego oraz zaburzenia psychiczne. Pozytywne skutki wykorzystywania maski są związane z prorozwojowymi procesami samopoznania i poznawania świata społecznego. Współczesne społeczeństwa masowe wydają się zachęcać ludzi do kreowania takich publicznych autowizerunków, które nie sprzyjają ani indywidualnemu rozwojowi, ani etosowi służącemu budowaniu wspólnego dobra. Kulturowo-społeczne warunki naszych czasów mogą powodować usztywnianie masek, które ludzie wykorzystują, przyczyniając się do obniżania jakości życia osobistego i społecznego. W takich warunkach postulat Junga, wzywającego do rozpoznawania własnej maski, zyskuje dodatkową etyczną moc.
    The idea of personal public image that people present to others corresponds with the psychological concept of self-presentation. Theories of self-presentation concentrate on motives, strategies and effectiveness of behaviours aiming to impression management, and partly neglect deeper, complicated psychological mechanisms, mostly non-personal determinants, and far-reaching, also ethical, consequences of the creation and usage of personal image in social world. Descriptions of such mechanisms, determinants, and consequences are offered by theories of a mask or persona that were initiated by Carl Gustav Jung and are still being developed. Psychological theories of a mask, having a broader range of description and explanation than self-presentation theories, indicate and discuss a variety of determinants of constructing and using a mask, usually defined as a part of personality that represents the self in social reality. These determinants can be categorized as evolutional, existential, historical, cultural, social and individual. The creation and usage of a mask is based on specific emotional, motivational and cognitive processes. A mask is an instrument of the presentation of the self in the outer world. It protects the self. It also shapes personal image of one’s self. Wearing a mask may have various consequences, both negative and positive, all of them having an ethical aspect. The most important are: inability to build authentic relationships, inhibition of personal development, and mental disorders. The positive results of wearing a mask are mostly developmental: using a mask supports the processes of acquiring knowledge about one’s individuality and social reality. Contemporary mass societies seem to favour an ethos of creating public self-images that does not encourage developmental changes of a personal mask. Such an ethos may cause rigidness of individual masks, effecting in a low quality of life, both personal and social. In this context, Jung’s postulate to recognize one’s own mask is gaining additional ethical power.

    Opis:
    Modern collection of information from open sources like state, press and private ones come under open-source intelligence and it is a complement to operation activities carried out in criminology. The article focuses on working out personal and capital relationships by means of open-source intelligence and on obtaining data from open sources as a complement to the information which will help reveal personal relationships or motives for the crime after years. The article discusses universally available sources like state registers, private sources of information, sources of political information and motives of business entities recognition i.e. tortious motives in economic crime and in criminal offences as well as in industrial espionage and sabotage.  
    Współczesne pozyskiwanie informacji ze źródeł jawnych – państwowych, prasowych i prywatnych – należy do białego wywiadu i jest ono dopełnieniem wykonywanych czynności operacyjnych w kryminalistyce. W artykule zwrócono uwagę na sposoby rozpracowania powiązań osobowych i kapitałowych za pomocą białego wywiadu, a także możliwość pozyskania danych z otwartych źródeł jako uzupełnienie informacji, które będą pomocne w ujawnieniu po latach powiązań osobowych czy motywów zbrodni. W artykule omówione zostały źródła powszechnie dostępne: rejestry państwowe, prywatne źródła informacji, źródła informacji politycznej, jak również rozpoznawania podmiotów gospodarczych, tj. motywy deliktowe w przestępczości gospodarczej i kryminalnej, szpiegostwie przemysłowym oraz sabotażu.

    Subject literature assumes that spatial proximity stimulates collaboration in thematic clusters. However, even in micro-scale settings, resource exchange is rare or entails only tangible resources. We empirically unravel how specific proximity indicators relate to the types of resources exchanged in incubatees’ business relationships. Based on 118 business relationships of incubatees, we conclude that on the micro-scale of an incubator, site proximity to another incubatee has a limited relation and geographical proximity to business partners outside the incubator has no relation to the types of resources exchanged. For the latter business relationships, personal similarity positively relates to the exchange of specific business knowledge resources.

    Against the backdrop of contemporary sociological theories of love, this article explores the disappearance of the other in contemporary love relationships by focusing on the relationship between love and depression. The aim of the article is twofold: first, to provide a theoretical framework to be able to grasp in what ways the other is threatened with erosion in contemporary love relationships and why this may cause depression; second, to exemplify it with empirical data consisting of human documents such as novels, interviews, sms- and messenger-correspondence. The first section, excluding the introduction, consists of methodological reflections. The second section introduces Hegel’s thinking on love and discusses the perception of it by thinkers such as Honneth, Sartre, and Beauvoir, as well as its parallels with Giddens’s idea on confluent love as a new egalitarian paradigm for equality in intimate relationships. The third section is mainly devoted to Kristeva’s theory of the melancholic-depressive composite, but also introduces Illouz’s concept of autotelic desire. In the fourth section, Han’s idea of “the erosion of difference” and Bauman’s thinking on “the broken structure of desire” are discussed in relation to the use of Tinder in contemporary culture. The fifth section consists of an analysis of excerpts from contemporary love novels and interviews that illustrates the disappearance of the other in contemporary love relationships. In the sixth section, a number of longer passages from a messenger conversation, ranging over a couple of months in duration, is reproduced and interpreted, mainly by help of Kristeva’s thinking, in order to make visible the relation between the erosion of the other and melancholic depression. The article ends with a short conclusion.

    The article contains an overview of the rules relating to the scope of application of the EU private international law regulations. It addresses the treatment of the relevant preliminary questions, with special reference to the Succession Regulation. The issues are discussed in three steps. The first is connected with the way of interpreting the notions and concepts, such as marriage, adoption, legal capacity etc., where such matters as personal status, legal capacity or family relationship may come to the foreground as a preliminary question. The second is dealing with the law applicable to the preliminary question. The author compares pros and cons of the “independent reference” (lex fori) and the “dependent reference” (lex causae) solutions, considering the latter as less effective, producing more negative consequences. The third step embraces questions relating to the jurisdiction with respect to preliminary question.

    One’s functioning at work depends strongly on working environment conditions, including work organization and interpersonal relationships. Working environment is an important area of professional and social development of an individual but may also constitute a source of many problems, causing unnecessary tensions, negative behaviours and consequently, lower the working culture. The aim of this study is to draw attention to work humanization issue and place of an individual in the working process. The article shows an analysis of studies concerning working environment and its elements, interpersonal relationships at work and educational impact of the working environment.
    Funkcjonowanie człowieka w miejscu pracy zależy przede wszystkim od warunków środowiska pracy, w tym organizacji pracy i relacji międzyludzkich. Środowisko pracy jest istotnym obszarem rozwoju zawodowego i społecznego człowieka, ale może też stanowić źródło wielu problemów, co w konsekwencji powoduje niepotrzebne napięcia i negatywne zachowania oraz obniża kulturę pracy. Celem podjętych rozważań jest zwrócenie uwagi na zagadnienie humanizacji pracy i miejsce człowieka w procesie pracy. Artykuł prezentuje analizę treści dotyczących środowiska pracy i jego elementów, relacji interpersonalnych w miejscu pracy oraz edukacyjnych oddziaływań środowiska pracy.

Wysokie poczucie dobrostanu przekłada się w sposób pozytywny na pracę zawodową, relacje z innymi ludźmi oraz na ogólny stan zdrowia. Osoby o wysokim dobrostanie subiektywnym często są lepiej oceniane, zarówno jako podwładni, jak i przełożeni, osiągają wyższe wyniki, łatwiej przeciwdziałają wypaleniu zawodowemu oraz charakteryzują się mniejszą absencją w miejscu pracy. Badania przeprowadzone w grupie 90 osób – pedagogów specjalnych i terapeutów pracujących z dziećmi/uczniami z niepełnosprawnością w szkołach specjalnych, integracyjnych i włączających (ogólnodostępnych) – dotyczące subiektywnego poczucia dobrostanu psychicznego w sześciu dymensjach: samoakceptacja, osobisty rozwój, cel w życiu, panowanie nad otoczeniem, autonomia, pozytywne relacje z innymi wskazują, że respondenci, ogólnie rzecz biorąc, są zadowoleni ze swojego życia, aczkolwiek poziom tej zmiennej w poszczególnych bada-nych aspektach jest zróżnicowany i wraz z wiekiem się obniża. Badania pozwoliły nie tylko na poznanie percepcji własnego życia tej grupy osób, lecz także na wskazanie potrzebnych różnorodnych oddziaływań, zwłaszcza o charakterze terapeutycznym i profilaktycznym, służących zapobieganiu zjawisku wypalenia zawodowego oraz podnoszących jakość ich życia.
    The research on subjective psychological well-being with 90 people – special educators and therapists working with disabled children and pupils in integrated and inclusive institutions (commonly accessible). The study focused on subjective well-being, reflected in 6 dimensions (self-acceptance, personal growth, life aims, environment mastery, autonomy and positive relationships with others) proves that respondents are generally satisfied with their lives, although the level of satisfaction varies in different aspects and decreases with age. The research on subjective psychological well-being with 90 people – special educators and therapists working with disabled children and pupils in integrated and inclusive institutions (commonly accessible). The study focused on subjective well-being, reflected in 6 dimensions (self-acceptance, personal growth, life aims, environment mastery, autonomy and positive relationships with others) proves that respondents are generally satisfied with their lives, although the level of satisfaction varies in different aspects and decreases with age. The research made it possible to analyze individual perception of life of the mentioned group of people as well as to propose undertaking various therapeutic activities helping to avoid professional burn-out and improve the quality of life.

    Opis:
    The article presents the legal status of an executive body in a commune in the Polish and French legal orders, including selected issues related to the systemic position of this body in a comparative perspective. The tasks and competences of a maire/vogt (mayor, president of a city) were presented and grouped into own tasks, delegated ones and the ones fulfilled on behalf of the state. All presented problems of research enabled conclusions and postulates de lege ferenda in respect to shaping of a legal position of a monocratic executive body in a commune in the Polish legal order. The considerations presented in this article should lead to a discussion of a model, pattern of an executive body in the contemporary territorial self-government, which should take account of current needs of inhabitants of a local community and ensure effective execution of tasks in commune self-government.
    Artykuł przedstawia pozycję prawną organu wykonawczego w gminie w polskim i francuskim porządku prawnym, w tym wybrane zagadnienia dotyczące pozycji ustrojowej tego organu w perspektywie porównawczej. Zaprezentowano zadania i kompetencje mera/wójta (burmistrza, prezydenta miasta) – z podziałem na własne, oddelegowane oraz te wykonywane w imieniu państwa. Całość przedstawionej problematyki badawczej pozwoliła na wysunięcie wniosków oraz postulatów de lege ferenda w zakresie kształtowania pozycji prawnej monokratycznego organu wykonawczego w gminie w polskim porządku prawnym. Rozważania prowadzone w artykule powinny przyczynić się do dyskusji na temat modelu, wzorca organu wykonawczego we współczesnym samorządzie terytorialnym, który będzie uwzględniać aktualne potrzeby mieszkańców wspólnoty lokalnej i zapewniać efektywne wykonywanie zadań w samorządzie gminnym.
