    The author shows the usefulness of the philosophy of Thomistic personalism in determining the type of education most beneficial to the human person’s highest development by building on St. Thomas Aquinas’s idea of personal relation according to both the first act-esse and the second act-operari. Because the richness of this philosophy involves the use of Thomistic metaphysics and metaethics, anthropology, political philosophy, phenomenology and aesthetics and is meant to be applied (as in Pope St. John Paul II’s theology of the body), the author helps discover a unique and fitting tool by which Catholic education may be considered and planned for based on what is most fundamental to the human person’s reality—the act of his existence and subsequent personalistic act, according to truth and love. The author also presents a selection of real applications included in such an approach to the person in relation.

    Philosophical trends referring to the concept of person are characterized by a certain dissonance. The presented article makes an attempt at answering the question about the reality of person. The personal perspective adopted by the author, is a kind of novelty, thus showing that it is impossible to make a specific reflection on the existence of man or his nature without proper reflection on the category of person. This analysis, presented in the spirit of personalism, puts the person in the center, showing its wealth and antinomies. Thus, it attempts to indicate the basic personalist categories such as dignity, freedom, sanctity, etc. Being a person means that we ought to treat everyone as having their unconditional, transcendental value.
    Istnieje pewien dysonans w nurtach filozoficznych odnoszących się do pojęcia osoby. W prezentowanym artykule podjęto próbę odpowiedzi na pytanie o realność osoby. Osobowa perspektywa podjęta przez autora jest swoistym novum i tym samym unaocznia, iż bez właściwego namysłu nad kategorią osoby nie można podejmować konkretnej refleksji nad egzystencją człowieka, jego natury. Analiza przedstawiona w duchu personalizmu stawia osobę w centrum, ukazując jej bogactwo, antynomie. Tym samym podjęto próbę wskazania podstawowych kategorii personalistycznych takich jak godność, wolność, świętość etc.

    Celem przeprowadzonych w tym artykule analiz jest, zgodnie ze słowami Wojtyły, próba zrozumienia osoby ludzkiej dla niej samej, ażeby odpowiedzieć wyzwaniu, jakie przynosi doświadczenie człowieka w całym swoim bogactwie, a także egzystencjalna problematyka człowieka we współczesnym świecie. Na treść artykułu składają się analizy wybranych fragmentów z antropologicznych dzieł Wojtyły. Rozważana jest kolejno: specyfika osoby w relacji do natury, dynamizm osoba–natura, pojęcia transcendencji i integracji osoby, relacja dusza–ciało, jedność osoby oraz cel życia osobowego. Antropologiczny wysiłek Wojtyły zmierzał do uchwycenia tego, co nieredukowalne w człowieku, z zachowaniem jego wymiaru bytowego i zarazem podmiotowego (świadomościowego). Punktem wyjścia analiz jest złożoność człowieka z różnych czynników, sprowadzalnych do cielesności i duchowości (ujętych początkowo jako fenomeny doświadczalne). Analiza transcendencji oraz tzw. integracji natury w osobie, ukazującej zjednoczenie różnorodnych struktur w jedności bytowej, zmierza w sposób metodycznie ugruntowany do ukazania integralności i wyjątkowości człowieka jako osoby. Specyficzne istnienie osobowe, uzasadniające także bytową jedność człowieka, jest uchwytne w aktach przeżywania, w kategoriach samopanowania i samoposiadania, w doświadczeniu transcendencji, jak również swojej cielesności. Wieńczącym momentem podjętej tu refleksji jest zwrócenie uwagi na fakt, iż człowiek spełnia się jako osoba poprzez swoistą osobową otwartość na prawdę, dobro i piękno, która to otwartość przejawia się zwłaszcza w zjednoczeniu z drugim człowiekiem, a także w pragnieniu zjednoczenia z samym źródłem istnienia, osobowym Absolutem.
    The purpose of the analyses carried out in this article is, according to Wojtyła’s words, an attempt to understand the human person for herself, in order to answer the challenge that human experience brings in all her wealth, as well as the existential problem of man in the modern world. The content of the article consists of analyses of selected fragments from the anthropological works of Wojtyła. It is considered in turn: the specificity of the person in relation to nature, the person-nature dynamism, the concepts of transcendence and integration of the person, the soul-body relationship, the unity of the person, and the purpose of personal life. Wojtyła’s anthropological effort was to capture what is irreducible in man, keeping his ontological and subjective (conscious) dimension. The starting point for the analyses is the composition of man of different factors reducible to carnality and spirituality (taken at the beginning as the experiential phenomena). The analysis of a person’s transcendence and then so called integration of nature in a person showing the unification of various structures into the ontic oneness, strives in a methodically grounded way to show the integrity and uniquenessof man as a person. The specific personal existence that justifies also the ontic unity of man, is grasped in the acts of lived experience, in the categories of self-ruling and self-owning, inthe experience of transcendence, as well as in his corporeality.The culminating moment of this reflection is drawing attention to the fact that man fulfills himself as a person through a kind of personal openness to truth, goodness and beauty, which is manifested especially in union with another human being, and in the desire to unite with the very source of existence, the personal Absolute.

    Against the background of the model of the metaphysics of the person (presented in the article “The Existential Metaphysics of the Person. Part 1: The Classical Concept of the Person and the Metaphysical Theory of Esse,” Studia Gilsoniana 10, no. 2) which was initiated by Thomas Aquinas and developed in the Lublin Philosophical School, this paper focuses on the attempt to show the philosophical breakthrough that the concept of personal existence can bring, and points out the most important theoretical conse-quences of adopting this theory in metaphysics. It outlines the elements of a new meta-physics of the person, based on the concept of personal existence, and hypothesizes about the metaphysical turn this concept could make. The investigations undertaken in the paper lead to the conclusion that not all inferences have yet been drawn from the concept of esse personale, and that the entire depth of the metaphysics of existence has not yet been explored.

    Opis:
    Authenticity currently poses a tremendous challenge for the process of education. The authenticity of being, acting and interpersonal relations seems to be a particularly important subject in the context of the development of methods of communication that favor the possibilities of concealing one’s true self and adopting the desired attitudes or behaviors. The article aims to show the category of authenticity and its complexity in the process of education in the sense of personal and existential pedagogy of Janusz Tarnowski. This category is a particularly important condition for Tarnowski, essential for a pedagogical process, often threatened by the use of unilateral violence. Tarnowski connects the authenticity with the realization of the one and only existence. The authenticity understood in this way includes the following factors: internal depth, intense training and life consistency. Therefore, the authenticity as a pedagogical category is included in the context of the “authentic existence” being at the same time the basis and condition for the existence of a real dialogue in the education.
    Autentyczność stanowi współcześnie ogromne wyzwanie dla procesu wychowania. Autentyzm bycia, postępowania, relacji międzyludzkich wydaje się być tematem szczególnie istotnym w kontekście rozwoju sposobów komunikacji, które sprzyjają możliwościom ukrycia swego prawdziwego „ja” oraz przyjęciu żądanych postaw czy zachowań. Artykuł ma na celu ukazanie kategorii autentyczności i jej złożoności w procesie wychowania w rozumieniu personalno-egzystencjalnej pedagogiki Janusza Tarnowskiego. Kategoria ta stanowi dla Tarnowskiego warunek szczególnie ważny i niezbędny w procesie pedagogicznym, często zagrożonym użyciem jednostronnej przemocy. Tarnowski wiąże autentyczność z urzeczywistnieniem jedynej, niepowtarzalnej egzystencji. Tak rozumiana autentyczność zawiera w sobie następujące czynniki: głębię wewnętrzną, intensywny trening oraz życiową konsekwencję. Autentyczność jako kategorię pedagogiczną ujmuje on zatem w kontekście „autentycznej egzystencji”, będącej jednocześnie podstawą i warunkiem zaistnienia prawdziwego dialogu w wychowaniu.
