Material handling and logistics management that involve transportation of work pieces on production floor are important aspects to manufacturing that affect productivity and efficiency. Tow vehicles that are manually driven are currently used for this purpose. These processes can be better performed through automation. Automated guided vehicle (AGV) is an apt solution. AGVs are unmanned autonomous vehicles that can be programmed to perform versatile tasks. AGVs available in market are imported and hence have high capital cost and increased lead time for spare parts. Proposed AGV is built with a capital cost that is less than half of the existing AGVs. Its design is made indigenously, with most of its parts locally sourced. It can achieve a speed of 0.83 m/s, with a pulling capacity of 1,300 kg. Its rechargeable batteries sustain four hours of continuous operation for one complete discharge. It has been tested and found to effectively replace tow vehicles.

Opis:
One of the most challenging research fields in which research community has taken a very active role is focused on trying to bring the features of wireless networks into line with the traditional wired solutions. Given the noisy and lossy nature of the wireless medium, it is more difficult to provide a comparable Quality of Service (QoS) and Reliability over wireless networks. This lack of reliability avoids the use of wireless solution in scenarios under harsh environment and mission-critical applications. In this paper we propose an inter-node collaborative schema with the aim of improving the achievable QoS level for multicast streaming, through the use of Network Coding and the algebra it is based on. We also present an implementation of the described algorithm on the OPNET discrete event simulation tool. Experimental results highlighting the performance achieved by the proposed algorithm and its improved efficiency as compared to other solutions are described.

The main idea of the current research is to apply customer satisfaction level Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for supply chain reliability improvement. The Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model-based KPI metrics increase the quality of product/service by monitoring, visualising, and digitalising directly involved processes. In the long run, the solution will ultimately help reduce/eliminate the number of customer reclamations in the supply chain. An industry-oriented performance measurement model based on SCOR can be easily adapted for different sectors. The approach proposed in the current research is based on identifying key factors of supply chain performance of the SCOR model connected with the predictive and diagnostic capability of Bayesian Believe Networks. The difference in performance can be reached via applying the best practices to processes, affecting the performance on a larger scale.

This article presents a model of performance analysis for a truck fleet system in an openpit mine, considering special characteristics of haul fleets. In these systems, the expected availability of each piece of equipment and its operating capacity are the fundamental variables to construct a global fleet performance function. Our analytical algorithm considers heterogeneous fleets with known individual characteristics of transport capacity and failure and repair behavior. The results converge to a new indicator denominated “Equivalent Availability” (EA), which arises from the need to evaluate the capacity of the truck fleet to operate at a lower payload than required using different combinations of equipment to achieve an availability goal. EA is a key indicator to determine the productive capacity of a process, and for selecting equipment and their combinations to achieve production objectives. To exemplify the potentialities of the EA, a case study is implemented in a Chilean copper truck fleet mining process.

Monitoring & Detection (M&D) systems are introduced in almost all daily life aspects. Today, it is unlikely to find out a system that is not equipped with a sort of M&D apparatus, even the most ordinary and uncritical systems. Objective assessments of the performances of M&D systems are increasingly needed. Performance assessment may be motivated by commercial interests or by certification concerns if the application field is ordinary or uncritical. While, if the application filed is critical, safety and security aspects may become the major focus. The paper classifies in three classes the models that are the most-frequently used to describe M&D systems. The author proposes for each class a suitable indicator of performance based on M&Dsystems reliability targets.

The performance failure and reliability of motion mechanism has a significant effect on industry reliability, operation safety and production economy. Motion precise is one of the typical performance indicators especially for motion mechanism with multibody and joints, which will be influenced by necessary joint clearance. Size of joint clearance degenerates with usage such as wear and deformation. Repeated start-stop lead to impact stress and plastic deformation for clearance joint particularly for mechanism with high load and long working cycles. Nevertheless, current research ignoring the coupling of plastic deformation and wear, which will cause a different wear process and mechanism performance failure. This study attempts to investigate the wear process and performance failure model of multibody mechanism with clearance joints considering plastic deformation and wear. Quantification of plastic deformation caused by repeated impact stress of joints is studied by formulation. Then, a novel wear process model is established on the basis of Archard model, after which performance failure indicator of motion mechanism is conducted. In case study case, a linkage motion mechanism with multi revolution joints used in industry assemble line is studied to demonstrate proposed methods and models. This investigative study provides valuable guidelines for degeneration prediction and failure or reliability analysis of motion mechanism.

This paper presents a development of the known qualitative method for assessment of engine operation, applied to ship main diesel engine as an example. According to this interpretation engine operation can be presented as a physical quantity. In this aspect, based on the selected functional system of the engine, was assessed usefulness of the quantity for description reliability features of the system. To the analysis was applied Poisson's uniform process which made it possible to elaborate a model of run of worsening the considered system's operation taken as a random process of identical independent decreases of energy efficiency within a given time interval. The presented method is a valuable supplement for description reliability features of ship main engine what is important for realization of shipping tasks by sea. Additional advantage is versatility which makes that it can be applied to reliability analysis of any ship device or ship energy subsystem. Classification of the engine serviceability states with taking into account the assessment of its operation in energy-time aspect, schematic diagram of lubricating system of RTA48-TB engine and values of lubricating oil parameters in steady conditions for the engine load, graphical presentation of lubricating oil cooler operation graphical interpretation of the decreasing of oil cooler efficiency are presented in the paper

To test the reliability of the evaluation of musical performances by musical experts, the protocols of the jury of an international music contest have been subjected to statistical analysis. The object of the analysis were 2156 jurors’ points and rank ratings, given by 28 members of the jury, assessing 77 different performances of one of Fryderyk Chopin’s polonaises, evaluated during the first stage of an international music competition. The analysis revealed the following: 1. very large interpersonal (inter-rater) differences of the jurors’ ratings, 2. despite these differences, there was a very high level of statistical significance of the inter-rater agreement (p<.ool) of the jurors’ evaluation, 3. despite the high level of statistical significance of inter-rater agreement of the evaluation of musical performance, this accounts for only 1/3 of the general variance of ratings. Conclusion: individual ratings of musical performance are not a reliable measure of musical achievement, even when given by music experts of the highest level.

The paper is concerned with the analysis of under-keel clearance of ships based on real data from Szczecin Maritime Office. Using probabilistic method for UKC assessment give it possibility to create the distribution of under-keel clearance in several ship’s passages and in further step to determine the probability of ship’s grounding accident during the port approach. The results of using this type of model could be used in risk assessment of ships entering to the ports, therefore it is possible to used probabilistic model in Maritime Office employees’ everyday decision making practice. Research results present verification of probabilistic model, based on data from Vessel Traffic Service database and probability of touching the bottom during ships’ passages on Swinoujscie – Szczecin waterway. Moreover there are presented examples of these situations when entering to the port for analysed ships is not allowed according to the model.

Analyzing the systems in terms of reliability, we often treat them as the technical objects only, omitting human interaction or assuming that operator has constant characteristics. This significantly distorts the results obtained in this way, since human is a part of the system with special properties that can change together with the predisposition of the operator and the conditions under which he operates. These attributes may have a major influence on the reliability of the systems. Therefore, analysis of systems reliability should include a reliability of operator and its properties. In this paper presented the antropotechnical reliability structure based on selected installation, which is a part of ships propulsion system. Also operator’s functions were defined and the analysis of human reliability, taking into account various properties of the operator and the external conditions, were performed. Then, there is assessed the influence of operator and environmental factors on the value of the entire system reliability. The study used the reliability data of the container ship propulsion system equipped with low-speed piston engine, fixed pitch propeller and auxiliary installations. These data were obtained from studies of expert judgments (Brandowski A., Frąckowiak W. et al.) in the years 2007–2009. For HRA (human reliability analysis), HEART technique (Human Error Assessment and Reduction Technique) was used, together with the human unreliability values and correction factors developed by the authors of this method. Study results illustrate influence of environmental, ergonomic factors and the properties of the operator on the reliability of the antropotechnical systems. The studies were subjected exemplification on fuel treatment installation as a part of ships propulsion systems.

The article refers to a valid and current research area, which is the role of information technology (IT) in the formation of business sustainability (BS). The main objective of this article is to identify the role of IT in shaping sustainable organization in the context of different, partly conflicting, approaches to BS and empirical verification of the proposed theoretical framework. The article describes key differences between BS approaches in case cognitive logic (reductionist versus integrative logic) and axiological (individualistic-egoistic versus holistic-altruistic axiology) distinction. Theoretical role of IT in shaping integrative logic for BS is identified and presented. The proposed theoretical concept is empirically verified. The verification is based on empirical studies conducted in 400 SMEs operating in Poland in 2017.

In the article problems related to human labor and factors affecting the increasing use of industrial robots are discussed. Since human factors affect the production processes stability, robots are preferred to apply. The application of robots is characterized by higher performance and reliability comparing to human labor. The problem is how to determine the real difference in work efficiency between human operator and robot. The aim of the study is to develop a method that allows clearly definition of productivity growth associated with the replacement of human labor by industrial robots. Another aim of the paper is how to model robotized and manual operated workstation in a computer simulation software. Analysis of the productivity and reliability of the hydraulic press workstation operated by the human operator or an industrial robot, are presented. Simulation models have been developed taking into account the availability and reliability of the machine, operator and robot. We apply OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) indicator to present how availability and reliability parameters influence over performance of the workstation, in the longer time. Simplified financial analysis is presented considering different labor costs in EU countries.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the reliability and validity of two alternative systems used for jumping performance measurement. Methods: Two groups of subjects were tested. The first group consisted of 15 male adults (21.3 ± 1.7 years ) and the second group consisted of 16 female volleyball players (17.2 ± 0.9 years). We used three different systems of data collection in the study. Two of the used systems are based on optoelectric components. The Optojump Next system is referred to as the optoelectric system, and BTS Smart-E is refered to as the video system. Concurrent validity of these systems was verified with the use of “gold standard” which is force platform. All systems were used to estimate the height of vertical jumps. Results: Both optoelectric systems occurred to be highly reliable with the ICCs=0.98 for Optojump and 0.9 for BTS Smart. Their concurrent validity with the force platform data was also very high r=0.99 and r=0.97 respectively. Conclusions: Comparison of these two systems shows distinct differences between them where Optojump system is more suitable for quick and reliable sports testing, when BTS-Smart for research and clinical testing.

The article focuses on evaluation of human reliability in the human – machine system in the railway industry. Based on a survey of a train dispatcher and of selected activities, we have identified risk factors affecting the dispatcher‘s work and the evaluated risk level of their influence on the reliability and safety of preformed activities. The research took place at the authors‘ work place between 2012-2013. A survey method was used. With its help, authors were able to identify selected work activities of train dispatcher’s risk factors that affect his/her work and the evaluated seriousness of its in- fluence on the reliability and safety of performed activities. Amongst the most important finding fall expressions of un- clear and complicated internal regulations and work processes, a feeling of being overworked, fear for one’s safety at small, insufficiently protected stations.
Artykuł zawiera ocenę niezawodności człowieka realizującego swoje zadania w układzie antropotechnicznym charakterystycznym dla branży kolejowej. W oparciu o badania ankietowe dyspozytora ruchu kolejowego oraz badanie wybranych realizowanych przez niego czynności, zidentyfikowano czynniki ryzyka wpływające na pracę dyspozytora. Dzięki przeprowadzonym badaniom oceniono poziom ryzyka i jego wpływ na niezawodność i bezpieczeństwo czynności wykonywanych przez dyspozytora. Badania ankietowe zostały przeprowadzone na przełomie lat 2012-2013. Kwestionariusz ankietowy pozwolił zidentyfikować czynniki ryzyka dla wybranych czynności na stanowisku pracy dyspozytora kolejowego, które w poważny sposób determinują niezawodność i bezpieczeństwo badanych czynności. Do najważniejszych czynników ryzyka zaliczono wyrażone w sposób skomplikowany i niejasny wewnętrzne regulacje i polecenia służbo- we, przemęczenie oraz strach o własne bezpieczeństwo na małych, niedostatecznie chronionych stacjach kolejowych.

A new approach to manage actuator redundancy in the presence of faults is proposed based on reliability indicators and a reference governor. The aim is to preserve the health of the actuators and the availability of the system both in the nominal behavior and in the presence of actuator faults. The use of reference governor control allocation is a solution to distribute the control efforts among a redundant set of actuators. In a degraded situation, a reconfigured control allocation strategy is proposed based on on-line re-estimation of the actuator reliability. A benefit of incorporating reliability indicators into over-actuated control system design is the smart management of the redundant actuators and improvement of the system safety. Moreover, when the fault is severe, an adaptation approach using the reference governor is proposed. The reference governor unit is a reference-offset governor based on a discrete-time predictive control strategy. The idea is to modify the reference according to the system constraints, which become stricter after the occurrence of an actuator fault. The proposed approach is illustrated with a flight control application.

Opis:
CM is a globally renowned machine, designed to work as a mass production technology for underground coal. Different major coal producers across the globe are using this technology for decades to produce underground coal efficiently. India is also one of the major players globally in the arena of coal production and adopted this cutting edge technology since last decade by implementing at. few of the selective underground coal mining projects. Performance of CM technology is influenced by the geo-mining condition, fleets of other ancillary units and reliability of subsystems while implementation of this system depends largely on the extent of reserve. These aspects generate a scope of large scale research and development in this field. Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) is the parameter to benchmark the equipment performance globally. OEE is the product of equipment availability, performance and product quality. This mining machine based paper focuses on the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) of the complete CM based operation to identify the vulnerable systems, which helps to design proper preventive maintenance programme. The CM based system is divided into few subsystems, such as; electrical, cutter, gathering arrangement, traction, hydraulic, chassis, feeder breaker, shuttle car, CM conveyor and out-bye conveyor. The downtime data used for this analysis is collected from an underground coal mine situated in the central part of India, belongs to one leading coal producing company of the country. From analysis it was found that, electrical systems and conveyors are among most vulnerable systems and deserves more care during maintenance. On the basis of these results recommendations are made to redesign the Preventive Maintenance Programme, in order to avoid the lower availability as well as lower OEE.

Niniejsza praca rozwiązuje problem projektu wydajnej i skalowalnej architektury systemu integracyjnego oraz doboru odpowiednich komponentów do jej praktycznej realizacji. Na podstawie przeprowadzonej analizy porównawczej różnych realizacji platform integracyjnych, bazujących na zaproponowanej architekturze wskazano, że w celu zastosowania modelu przesyłania komunikatów typu punkt-punkt najszybszym brokerem integracyjnym jest RabbitMQ, w połączeniu z protokołem AMQP. Dla modelu przesyłania komunikatów publikuj-subskrybuj, brokerem, który najszybciej przesłał określoną liczbę wiadomości jest Apache Kafka, z własnym dedykowanym protokołem.
This thesis solves the problem of designing an efficient and scalable architecture of the integration system and selecting the appropriate components for its practical implementation. Based on the research conducted on integration platforms consisting of specially selected components, it was pointed out that in order to implement the point-to-point messaging model, the fastest integration broker is RabbitMQ, in combination with the AMQP protocol. For the publishsubscribe messaging model the fastest broker is Apache Kafka, with its own dedicated protocol.

Due to global purposes to ensure growth of a competitive and sustainable transport system, also to solve traffic safety and environmental problems, various engineering solutions are being sought out. It can be assumed that autonomous vehicles are the technology, which will ensure the positive change in the transport system. Even though many studies successfully advanced toward realisation of autonomous vehicles, a significant amount of technical and policy framework problems still has to be solved. This paper addresses the problem of predefined path feasibility and proposes an effective methodology for a path to follow re-planning. The proposed methodology is composed of three parts and is based on the Dubins path approach. In order to modify the vector based Dubins path approach and to ensure the path feasibility, the optimisation problem was solved. A cost function with different inequality constraints was formulated. The performance and reliability of the proposed methodology were analysed and evaluated by carrying out an experimental research while using the autonomous test vehicle.
Dla zapewnienia rozwoju konkurencyjnego i zrównoważonego systemu transportowego, oraz w celu rozwiązania problemów związanych z bezpieczeństwem ruchu i środowiskiem, poszukiwane są różne rozwiązania techniczne. Można założyć, że autonomiczne pojazdy są technologią, która zapewni pozytywną zmianę w systemie transportowym. Mimo że wiele badań z powodzeniem dotyczyło realizacji autonomicznych pojazdów, należy jeszcze rozwiązać wiele problemów technicznych i prawnych. W niniejszym dokumencie poruszono problem predefiniowanej wykonalności ścieżki i zaproponowano skuteczną metodologię dla ścieżki do śledzenia ponownego planowania. Proponowana metodologia składa się z trzech części i opiera się na metodzie Dubinsa. Aby zmodyfikować metodę trajektorii Dubinsa i zapewnić optymalną trajektorię, w publikacji rozwiązano zadanie optymalizacji. Sformułowana funkcja celu z różnymi nieliniowymi ograniczeniami. Skuteczność i niezawodność proponowanej metodologii została przeanalizowana i oceniona po przeprowadzeniu eksperymentalnych badań z wykorzystaniem autonomicznego pojazdu badawczego.

This article mainly aims to verify the role of IT reliability as the factor potentially strengthening the CRM influence on organisational performance and conclude whether the IT reliability is indeed an important factor shaping the CRM ability to generate value for an organisation. Methodology. The empirical research was conducted to verify the existence of such a relation. The research was carried out based on the survey performed among organisations, and the sample included 558 entities from Poland and 564 from Switzerland. The statistical analysis of the obtained results was carried out using regression analysis with the moderator. Results. The obtained models clearly show that IT reliability is a moderator of the relation between CRM time-of-use and the organisational performance. The theoretical contribution. The obtained results clearly confirm that the existing IT solutions should support CRM, and with such support, this management method is positively influencing the organisational performance. Such a conclusion seems to be an important contribution to the studied field of research, filling the research gap concerning the mechanism of IT support for CRM. It remains consistent with the views from the literature and contributes to their extension.

Long term and mid-term reservoir operation involves derivation of rule curves for optimal management of the available resource. The present work deals with reservoir operation in the Aurès arid region. As an example, Babar reservoir is selected to apply the proposed approach which estimates all the water balance terms, especially those which are random as water inflows. For each demand scenario a reservoir operation optimization model using Explicit Stochastic Dynamic Programming (ESDP) is performed, to derive optimal rule curves based on historical operating records (Jan 2002–Dec 2013) and using “Reservoir” R package®. Subsequently, risk analysis is conducted for these different demand scenarios rules by the RRV (reliability, resilience, vulnerability) metrics. Results show the advantage of using the “Reservoir” R package for a rapid and an easy analysis of the performance criteria jointly with the optimization algorithm to Re-operate Reservoir operation.
Długo- i średnioterminowe działanie zbiornika obejmuje ustalenie reguł operacyjnych do optymalnego zarządzania dostępnymi zasobami. Przedstawiona praca dotyczy działania zbiornika w regionie Aurès znajdującym się na obszarze suchego klimatu. Jako przykład wybrano zbiornik Babar celem zastosowania proponowanego podejścia, w którym ustala się wszystkie warunki bilansowania wody, w tym czynniki losowe, np. dopływ wody. Dla każdego scenariusza zapotrzebowania na wodę opracowano dla zbiornika model optymalizacyjny z zastosowaniem stochastycznego programowania dynamicznego (ESDP), bazującego na historycznych zapisach operacyjnych z okresu styczeń 2002–grudzień 2013 i na pakiecie „Reservoir” programu statystycznego R. Następnie przeprowadzono analizę ryzyka dla różnych scenariuszy za pomocą miar RRV (wiarygodność, odporność, podatność). Wyniki wskazują na korzyści płynące z użycia pakietu „Reservoir” do szybkiej i łatwej analizy kryteriów operacyjnych w powiązaniu z algorytmem optymalizacyjnym.

The power transfer systems (PTS) has special reliability properties, including multiple states and fault dependence. Consequently, traditional binary-state reliability modeling methods cannot accurately evaluate the reliability of PTS. In order to resolve the contradiction between terminal energy demand and power transfer capability of PTS, this paper proposes a novel multi-state reliability model based on power transfer efficiency (PTE) for reliability evaluation of PTS. The multi-state model caused by performance degradation based on PTE is considered in this paper. In addition, the failure correlation in virtue of the system structure and energy allocation mechanism is analyzed in the proposed model, and the corresponding reliability evaluation result is obtained under different terminal energy requirements. The approach is verified on the example of a dual hydraulic actuation system (DHAS), in which the stochastic model based on the generalized stochastic Petri nets (GSPNs) is established and combined with the power transfer capability via universal generating function (UGF). Though changing flow rate to face the degradation rate of hydraulic pump, the reliability assessment of DHAS based on the proposed reliability model is effective and accurate.
Układy przesyłu energii (power transfer systems, PTS) charakteryzują się szczególnymi właściwościami niezawodnościowymi, w tym wielostanowością i zależnością między błędami. W związku z tym, tradycyjne metody modelowania niezawodności, które sprawdzają się w przypadku systemów dwustanowych, nie pozwalają na dokładną ocenę niezawodności PTS. W przedstawionej pracy zaproponowano nowatorski model niezawodności systemu wielostanowego, który do oceny niezawodności PTS wykorzystuje dane o wydajności przesyłu energii (PTE). Model ten wiążę niezawodność zarówno z zapotrzebowaniem na energię końcową jak i zdolnością przesyłową PTS. Rozważano model wielostanowy opisujący proces degradacji komponentów systemu w oparciu o PTE. W proponowanym modelu analizowano korelacje między uszkodzeniami w świetle struktury systemu i mechanizmu alokacji energii, a niezawodność oceniano dla różnych stopni zapotrzebowania na energię końcową. Podejście to zweryfikowano na przykładzie podwójnego układu hydrauliki siłowej (DHAS), dla którego ustalono model stochastyczny oparty na uogólnionych stochastycznych sieciach Petriego (GSPN), który łączono ze zdolnością przesyłową za pomocą uniwersalnej funkcji tworzącej (UGF). Badania pompy hydraulicznej prowadzone dla różnych prędkości przepływu i różnych szybkości degradacji wykazały, iż ocena niezawodności DHAS na podstawie proponowanego modelu cechuje się skutecznością i trafnością.
