    Opis:
    In Belgrade, since the late 1990s, private art galleries have appeared that indirectly create the image of the city through the propagation of art, take part in the education process of the residents and undertake criticism of local and global events. The article is an answer to the following questions: [1] why and how do the bottom-up art oriented places appear in Belgrade, [2] how do they function, and (3) what is their architectural form, and (4) why this form is like that.
    W Belgradzie od końca lat 90’ XX wieku pojawiają się prywatne galerie sztuki, które poprzez propagowanie sztuki pośrednio kreują wizerunek miasta, biorą udział w procesie edukacji mieszkańców oraz podejmują się krytyki lokalnych i globalnych wydarzenia. Artykuł jest odpowiedzią na pytania: (1) z jakiego powodu i w jaki sposób powstały w Belgradzie oddolnie kreowane galerie sztuki (2) jak funkcjonują, (3) jaka jest ich forma architektoniczna oraz (4) dlaczego ta forma jest właśnie taka.

    Der Artikel geht der Frage nach, wie die ehemals multikulturelle Industriestadt Łódź in der Region (aber auch darüber hinaus) wahrgenommen und wie darüber (interdisziplinär) geforscht und geschrieben wird. Der Schwerpunkt liegt dabei vor allem auf der Rolle der Łódźer Germanistik bei der Wiederentdeckung der deutsch-polnisch-jüdischen Vergangenheit in den letzten zwanzig Jahren.
    Niniejszy artykuł podejmuje kwestię, w jaki sposób Łódź, niegdyś wielokulturowe miasto przemysłowe, jest w regionie i po za nim postrzegana, interdyscyplinarnie badana i opisywana. W szczególności tekst koncentruje się na roli, jaką łódzka germanistyka odegrała na przestrzeni ostatnich dwudziestu lat w procesie ponownego odkrywania wspólnej dla Niemców, Polaków i Żydów przeszłości.
    The article deals with the perception of the former multicultural industrial city of Łódź in the region itself (and beyond), how research on this topic looks like, and how one writes about it. The text focuses especially on the role of the German Studies in Łódź in process of rediscovering, in the last twenty years, the city’s German-Polish-Jewish past.

    The aim of the article is to present the material scope and methodological assumptions of the research on the image of cities undertaken since the late 1970s. The author points out that the image of the city is a very broad term in which various research directions are included. The subject matter had been addressed in the works of sociologists, geographers and art historians since the 1920s. The so-called cultural breakthrough in historical sciences in the 1970s has contributed to the increasing interest in the problem of the representation of cities. The essence of the new approach has become the interest in the principles of creating an image, the ways of its construction and its functions. The priority in undertaking new methodological challenges in the research on the perception of cities and its representations should be attributed to researchers of literature and art historians. Historians started to be more seriously interested in the area in the 1980s. According to the author, the studies developing until the beginning of the 21st century were characterized by a large methodological diversity. Over the last ten years, the focus of researchers has been the issue of creating an image of their own city in various research contexts: city representation, city branding, symbolic communication and communal staging.

    Relacje człowieka i otoczenia można zawsze odnieść do ogólnego zagadnienia jego bycia w świecie. Miasto stało się obecnie podstawowym środowiskiem życia człowieka i jego najbliższą przestrzenią – stąd też istotnym wydaje się podejmowanie zagadnienia kompozycji urbanistycznej jako czynnika warunkującego orientację w przestrzeniach miejskich. Artykuł omawia kwestię kompozycji urbanistycznej jako jednej z determinant orientacji w przestrzeni miejskiej. Autorka ma na celu analizę zagadnienia percepcji i poznania środowiskowego oraz towarzyszącą im kwestię wyobrażalności środowiska i map poznawczych, odnosząc się do teorii obrazu miasta Kevina Lyncha.
    Relationship between man and environments can always refer to the general question of ones being in the world. Spatial and temporal reality forms a frame for every human activity and the orientation therein is the basis for the determination of human’s place – not only in the physical environment, but also in the whole spectrum carried by its meaning. Nowadays, the city has become an essential habitat for man and his nearest space – hence it seems important to take the issue of urban composition as a determinant orientation in urban areas. The article discusses the issue of urban composition as one of the determinants of urban spatial orientation. Author aims to analyze problem of perception and cognition, and the accompanying issue of imageability of environment and creation of its cognitive maps, referring to the image of the city theory of Kevin Lynch.
