The New Testament figure of St. Joseph comes to the fore in direct connection with his relationship with Mary, who is called to the service of motherhood, so that by divine action she may become the mother of the Redeemer. The title of St. John Paul II’s apostolic exhortation Redemptoris Custos indicates the mission of St. Joseph in the life of Jesus Christ as his protector. It is true that St. Joseph, Mary’s husband performs this role in certain situations. Joseph takes an attitude to a situation that affects him. For this reason, St. John Paul II does not focus only on the very service of the protector, but focuses on the relationship from which the protector’s service itself derives. This relationship is fatherhood, which corresponds to Joseph’s legitimate relationship with Mary. Mary herself defines Joseph’s relationship with Jesus as that of a father: „your father and I have been anxiously searching for you“ (Luke 2:48). It follows from the very marriage of Mary and Joseph, which unites them, that they both have the title of parent. John Paul II emphasizes this fact and formulates from it the relationship of fatherhood to Jesus. He revealed Joseph in the mystery of Christ with an emphasis on the biblical basis. The presented text reflects the new dimension of Joseph’s relationship with Christ, which is fulfilled by participating in the mystery of the Incarnation of the Eternal Word, together with Mary.
Nowotestamentalna postać św. Józefa wysuwa się na pierwszy plan w bezpośrednim związku, w relacji z Maryją, wezwaną do służby macierzyństwa, aby przez działanie Boże mogła stać się Matką Odkupiciela. Tytuł adhortacji apostolskiej św. Jana Pawła II Redemptoris custos wskazuje na misję św. Józefa w życiu Jezusa Chrystusa jako jego opiekuna. To prawda, że w pewnych sytuacjach św. Józef, mąż Maryi tę rolę spełnia. Józef przyjmuje postawę stosownie do sytuacji, która go dotyczy. Z tego powodu św. Jan Paweł II nie skupia się tylko na samej służbie opiekuna, ale na relacji, z której owa służba protektora się wywodzi. Owa relacja to ojcostwo, co odpowiada uzasadnionej relacji Józefa z Maryją. Sama Maryja określa relację Józefa z Jezusem jako relację ojca: „Twój ojciec i ja z bólem serca szukaliśmy ciebie” (Łk 2,48). Z samego małżeństwa Maryi i Józefa, łączącego ich, wynika, że oboje mają tytuł rodziców. Jan Paweł II podkreśla ten fakt i formułuje z niego stosunek ojcostwa do Jezusa. Ujawnił Józefa w tajemnicy Chrystusa z naciskiem na podstawy biblijne. Prezentowany tekst odzwierciedla nowy wymiar relacji Józefa z Chrystusem, który urzeczywistnia się poprzez uczestnictwo w tajemnicy Wcielenia Słowa Przedwiecznego wraz z Maryją.

The article concerns post-synodal message of Apostolic Exhortation of Pope John Paul II, Ecclesia in Oceania. That message applies to the issue of building a community of Christ’s Church, which is based on the understanding of the Church as a community of believers in Jesus Christ, who is the point of the Gospel and evangelization. Only in this perspective, it is possible to understand the Church by the peoples of Oceania, with its experience, both spiritual and cultural. It is essential to create a community among local Churches not only in the theoretical and doctrinal meaning, but also in practice.

Zbawczy sens cierpienia nie zmienia faktu, że jest ono złem i należy mu się przeciwstawiać. Cierpienie należy jednak postrzegać w kontekście przyszłej chwały i wykorzystywać je dla królestwa Bożego. Cierpienia ludzkie dopełniają cierpień Chrystusa. W cierpieniu człowiek zostaje wezwany do przekraczania samego siebie. Cierpienie innych ludzi powinno wyzwalać w człowieku miłość i gotowość udzielenia pomocy
This paper concerns the meaning of human suffering in the context of participation in the redemptive suffering of Jesus Christ. John Paul II writes about this meaning of suffering in his Apostolic Letter Salvifici doloris. The redemptive meaning of suffering does not change the fact that it is evil and must be opposed. Suffering, however, should be seen in the context of future glory and must be used for the Kingdom of God. Human sufferings complete the sufferings of Christ. In suffering, the man is called to transcend himself. The suffering of others should trigger love and willingness to provide help in the man.

During his pilgrimages to his homeland, John Paul II was teaching his countrymen about the problems specifi c to the Church in Poland, but also to the whole Church. One of these themes was the missions ad gentes. The Pope noticed and pointed out on the example of the history of his nation that missions built Polish statehood and shaped Polish culture. He called for this process to be recognized in the history of Europe as a whole and to recognize in evangelization the factor that builds and defi nes its true identity. He showed that missions help imbue human culture with a supernatural element. He recalled the truth about the missionary nature of the Church and the missionary vocation of all its members. Responsibility and cooperation in the missionary work was for John Paul II one of the forms of the “imagination of mercy.”  Appealing to his countrymen for missionary generosity and commitment, he also pointed to the fi gures who were involved in the animation of the missionary work in the Polish and universal Church. In his teaching in Poland, he recalled the missionary task of the Church community and of each and every faithful.

Agata Adamiecka’s article is devoted to Oliver Frljić’s affective The Curse, a play of unprecedented social impact in the post-transformation history of theater in Poland. Adamiecka chiefly focuses on the closing scene, where a wooden cross is cut down and a noose is hung around a plaster figure of John Paul II, as the clearest acts of symbolic violence, through which the artists affectively work on the audience, simultaneously showing themes that are most powerful taboos in the public sphere. Turning her attention to the wave of violence that actress Julia Wyszyńska experienced after the premiere, as well as statements by the Minister of Culture and other representatives of the political right, the author demonstrates how The Curse reveals the structure of symbolic power in Poland, with the inextricable alliance between state and church powers, and the permanent marginalization of women in the public sphere and the restriction of their rights, particularly when it comes to deciding about their own bodies.

Artykuł przedstawia Osobę św. Jana Pawła II jako ustawodawcę, jedynego papieża w historii Kościoła, który promulgował całość prawodawstwa powszechnego Kościoła katolickiego: Kodeks prawa kanonicznego dla Kościoła łacińskiego w 1983 roku i Kodeks kanonów Kościołów wschodnich w 1990 roku. W ustawach przez niego promulgowanych wyraźnie zaznaczają się akcenty: antropologiczno-personalistyczny i eklezjologiczny. Papież nie tylko promulgował kodeksy, a także wniósł osobisty wkład w treść prawa Kościoła, bo chociaż nie był kanonistą, to wraz z grupami specjalistów przed aktem promulgacji starannie przestudiował projekty. Ważnym rysem kodeksów Jana Pawła II jest ich łączność z decyzjami Soboru Watykańskiego II, stąd też można je nazwać ostatnimi dokumentami soborowymi.
The article presents the person of Saint John Paul II as a supreme legislator and sole Pontiff in the history of the Church that had promulgated an entire universal legislation of the Catholic Church, that is: the Code of Canon Law for the Latin Church in 1983 and the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches in 1990. The laws promulgated by the Pontiff posses two distinct motifs: an anthropologically-personalistic one and an ecclesiological one. The Pope had not only promulgated the texts of the Codes, but what is more, he provided a personal contribution into the content of the law. Albeit, not a canonist himself, he nevertheless in cooperation with various groups of experts, had carefully analyzed the projects prior to their promulgation. What is an important aspect of the codes of John Paul II is their concordance and continuity with the decrees of the Second Vatican Council, therefore it is possible and appropriate to call them the final.

 REASERCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of the article is showing the idea of liberty as inherent in the process of secularization, from which it results; the author appeals to the anthropological thesis drawing its significance from the relational character of the human being as created by God and shows how the secularization destroys this idea of the human person. THE REASERCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: What happens when the liberty is understood as liberation and autonomy towards to God and finally causes result contradictory to the intended one? The author applies the hermeneutic and critical method, referring to the different authors, for example to Henri de Lubac, Romano Guardini, J. Ratzinger, saint John Paul II. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The article analysis the problem of the contradiction between liberty and liberation in Catholic thought. The main item in this argumentation is that the liberty should not be understood as liberation towards to God because of the destructive effects of the secularization process in the Catholic doctrine and Church.  REASERCH RESULTS: The liberty understood as an absolute and liberation breaking with the Creator degenerates finally into artifice devoid of rational fundament, in short, of real contents; it is like human epiphenomenon. The new humanism brings the negation and destruction of the human being recognizing his humanity and maturity by breaking with God. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Modernity is the source and the root of the secularization. The idea of liberty devoid of fundament in the human being and the person of God complicates seriously the human coexistence and social life, as admitted once Habermas.

 W niniejszym artykule podjęto próbę interpretacji 21 pieśni Ireny Wieniawskiej (powstałych w latach 1911-1927), wykorzystujących teksty Paula Verlaine’a. Kompozytorka (1879-1932), znana także jako Madame Poldowski czy Lady Dean Paul, była córką Henryka Wieniawskiego i Izabeli Hampton-Wieniawskiej. Żyła i pracowała w Belgii oraz Wielkiej Brytanii, odbyła także podróże koncertowe do Stanów Zjednoczonych i Hiszpanii. We Francji poznała dorobek impresjonistów (m.in. Maurice’a Ravela), co w znacznym stopniu ukształtowało jej idiom twórczy.            W pierwszej części tekstu analizie poddano warstwę słowną utworów Wieniawskiej: ich wymiar treściowy oraz konstrukcyjny. Kolejny fragment został poświęcony płaszczyźnie muzycznej – autorka charakteryzuje podstawowe elementy dzieła: melodykę, akompaniament, harmonikę, fakturę i formę. W trzeciej części artykułu, w oparciu o reguły (corollaries) wyznaczone przez Henry’ego Woolletta, interpretowane są relacje słowno-muzyczne w pieśniach Madame Poldowski. French philosopher Paul Ricoeur (1913-2005) is best known as the co-founder of modern hermeneutics. Under this framework, he developed a practical philosophy (theory of action). Its applications can be found in his attitude to public and civic issues (e.g. expressed in skepticism to the course of events in May 1968 or protests against the worsening social inequalities), where there was always a religious theme, resulting from a strong Christian faith rooted in the Protestant profile. Ricoeur differentiated politics as classically understood politics as a space for joint action within a framework of policies rather than more contemporary views, where it is associated with gaining and securing power. He pointed to the need for dialogue and negotiations between the government and the social partners, trade unions and political adversaries. Political activity becomes similar to practical wisdom.
