    Wśród różnych interpretacji „gwiazdy z Jakuba” z Lb 24,17 ogromną rolę odegrała interpretacja mesjańska, która jest obecna zarówno w tradycji żydowskiej, jak i chrześcijańskiej. Celem tego artykułu jest prześledzenie rozwoju interpretacji motywu tajemniczej „gwiazdy z Jakuba”, poczynając od tekstu masoreckiego Lb 24,17, przez starożytne tłumaczenia, aż po egzegezę wczesnych Ojców Kościoła. 
    Among the various interpretations of “The Star out of Jacob” (Numbers 24:17), the messianic reading, present in both the Jewish and the Christian traditions, has played an enormous role. The purpose of this study is to review the development of different interpretations of “The Star out of Jacob”, starting from the Masoretic Text of Numbers 24:17, proceeding through the ancient versions, and ending up with the exegesis of the early Church Fathers.

    Opis:
    Is the method of tracking scriptural references to determine the influence of a biblical book on the Fathers of the Church sufficient? Or, would it be more appropriate to expand our methodological resources by taking the convergence of different types of elements into account ? This article seeks to demonstrate the complementary nature of these methods through the example of the reception of the Book of Amos by four Fathers of the Church. The list of quotations by Justin Martyr, Ireanaeus, and Origen is used to perceive how they appeal to and interpret the Book of Amos, as well as the particular status they grant it. In addition to this initial method, a semantic and stylistic analysis of Basil of Caesarea’s Homily VIII reveals supplementary forms of the reception of Amos and thus indicates the important influence of the prophet on this Father and Doctor of the Church.
    Artykuł dotyczy recepcji księgi proroka Amosa u pisarzy chrześcijańskich jak Justyn, Ireneusz, Orygenes i Bazyli. Gdy chodzi o pierwszych trzech Autorka posługuje się metodą przytaczania i analizy cytatów z księgi Amosa, które znajdują się w dziełach tychże teologów. W takim przypadku wystarczy posłużyć się indeksem biblijnym, aby tego rodzaju cytaty odnaleźć. Jednakże Autorka stwierdza, że samo przytaczanie cytatów może okazać się niewystarczające, gdyż w niektórych pismach patrystycznych są aluzje do poszczególnych ksiąg biblijnych, nawet gdy nie ma wprost cytatów. Takie właśnie aluzje były zasygnalizowane w homiliach Bazylego Wielkiego: Homilia in illud: Destruam horrea mea (Luc 12, 18) oraz Homilia dicta tempore famis et siccitatis. Aluzje do proroka Amosa polegają na podobieństwie w sposobie omawiania poszczególnych zagadnień.

    Origen from Alexandria (†253), one of the most eminent early Christian writers, is the pioneer of a very interesting theological conception of death. It is connected with his general soteriology doctrine. In the Christocentric theology of Origen, not so much death but Life itself, the synonym of the Savior, determines the principle of his interests, scientific research, and teaching. Death is a departure from Life. It separates us from God and connects with the reality destined to be doomed. The allegorical method used by the Alexandrian enabled him to identify the expression “death” with the Devil. Origen created the so-called doctrine of three kinds of death. First of them is the physical death. It is a consequence of the “paradise sin” and refers to all people. According to the classical definition, it is a separation of the soul from the body. The second one is the death by sin which leads to annihilation. The third one is the death for sin which means eternal happiness in heaven and coming back to the origins of life together with Christ. Origen hopes that at the end of times death will be conquered as the „last enemy”, and all human beings, submitted to it until now, will be purified and will return to the original unity with the Lord.

    Opis:
    This article presents the role played by philosophy and biblical exegesis in controversy with Apollinarius of Laodicea. First of all it tries to present the general context of the dispute, then to develop Basil’s theological thinking and apply it to the problematic Christological field, where Apollinarius directed his challenge. Faced with the anthropological-soteriological problem relating to the defence of the integrity of Christ’s human nature, Basil draws on Stoic and Neoplatonic philosophical tradition. Then, this paper focuses attention on Basil’s interpretation of some biblical passages in the confutation of Apollinaris’ doctrine. Basil had started the controversy by describing Apollinarius as supporter of fabulous theories, which are not based on the Scriptures, and of Judaizing ideas which concerned the eschatological renewal. Generally, the Cappadocian prefers to distance himself from Apollinaris and does not intervene in complete manner on the theological debate. The bishop – monk tries to unmask the errors of the opponents’ theories starting with the correct interpretation of the scriptural passages used by Apollinarius. In some points of his works, the Cappadocian insists that the Savior had a soul capable of feeling and suffering. According to the bishop of Caesarea some of anthropological and philosophical principles used by Apollinaris, along with the distorted reading of biblical texts, revealed the ambiguities and the inconsistencies of his arguments.

    Książka jest zbiorem sześciu studiów na temat teologicznego obrazu Maryi w świetle patrystycznej i scholastycznej wykładni Pisma Świętego. Przedwczesna śmierć autorki nie pozwoliła jej uczynić z nich spójnej całości. Jej współpracownicy, po naniesieniu drobnych poprawek redakcyjnych, postanowili przygotowany przez nią maszynopis opublikować (bez wstępu i zakończenia). Regina Willi wybrała z Biblii kilka perykop i motywów maryjnych (np. Mulier fortis, Mater Ecclesiae, Mater unitatis, Sedes sapientiae). Na ich przykładzie ukazuje jak Ojcowie Kościoła i pisarze średniowieczni je analizowali i interpretowali, aby odkryć ich sens alegoryczny. Pragnęli w ten sposób pogłębić rozumienie tajemnicy Maryi. 
    The book is a collection of six dissertations on the subject of theological image of Mary from patristic and scholastic perspective of the Scripture. Premature death of the author did not allow for the publication to form a coherent whole. Her coworkers, having introduced some minor editorial corrections, decided to publish her typescript (without an introduction or a conclusion). Regina Willi chose a few pericopes and Marian motifs from the Scripture (e.g. Mulier fortis, Mater Ecclesiae, Mater unitatis, Sedes sapientiae). Basing on these examples she shows how the Fathers of the Church and medieval writers analyzed and interpreted them in order to discover their allegorical meaning. They desired to deepen their understanding of the mystery of Mary.

    Tropologia to jedna z patrystycznych metod interpretacji tekstu biblijnego. Święty Hieronim włącza ją do swojego kanonu hermeneutycznego, który nazywa „potrójną deskrypcją i regułą Pisma świętego” (triplex descriptio et regula Scripturarum). Tłumaczy również, że istotą tropologii jest interpretacja moralna. Przedstawienie proweniencji tej metody, a dalej prezentacja, na czym ona polega w rozumieniu świętego Hieronima i jakimi rządzi się regułami, stanowi zasadniczy problem niniejszego studium.
    Tropology is one of the patristic methods of interpreting the biblical text. Saint Jerome includes it in his hermeneutical canon, which he calls "the triple description and rule of Sacred Scripture" (triplex descriptio et regula Scripturarum). He also explains that the essence of tropology is moral interpretation. The main problem of this study is to present the provenance of this method, and then to discuss what it consists of in the understanding of Saint Jerome and what rules it is governed by.
