Started by Pope Francis in 2021, the Synod on Synodality is intended to be a guiding principle for the self-awareness of the Church in the coming decades of the 21st century. The Church faces numerous challenges as a global institution, grappling with various issues among its followers who currently inhabit all continents. The situation of young churches in Africa, emerging after the era of colonialism, is different, as they seek their own identity. Similarly, the Church operates differently on the Old Continent, permeated by ideas of freedom, secularism, and liberalism. This article focuses on certain topics presented by participants of the synodal meeting in Prague in early 2023, addressing the functioning of the Church in Europe. The content of the article centers around the discussion of the idea of synodality and its place in the history of the Church and its current ecclesial vision. It then explores the relationship between mercy and truth in theology, openness to contemporary culture while preserving tradition, and the dynamics of power competition within the Church. All of these aspects are presented based on the Dossier of the Synodal Meeting in Prague, which outlines practical and pastoral challenges for the Church’s activities in Europe.

The public debate increasingly talks about the crisis of the Church, which is manifested by a decline in the most important statistical indicators of faith. However, if we look at the development of Christianity, we will easily see that in its history it has very often experienced problems with the hallmarks of a crisis. Perhaps the basis for perceiving the current situation as a crisis is a distorted image of God and the expectation that Catholicism would dominate in quantitative terms over other worldview proposals that can be found today. This text reflects on the phenomenon of the crisis of the Catholic Church in Poland and discusses whether the observable changes in the Church concern faith itself, or rather religion, which is a broader concept. Finally, based on Francis’ exhortation Evangelii Gaudium, the article shows inspiration for awakening hope and pastoral activity, which are a guarantee of saving the faith of those seeking God and being close to Him.

Among the many paths in life on which God places man there is undoubtedly the one that leads to the heights of holiness. It is not always easy, but certainly beautiful. Delighted by this beauty of God’s plans, Brother Jerzy Lakomiak united his paths with the Master’s dogs. Reading and responding to God’s call, he responded with his life by taking up the path of the evangelical counsels: chastity poverty and obedience following the example of St. Francis of Assisi. His love for God, the Blessed Mother, holy poverty, quiet and humble service, and a life of prayer, first in his native country and then for half a century on Argentine soil, made it possible that today among his confreres and those who knew Brother George, he is spoken of as one who exemplarily fulfilled the mission the Risen Lord entrusted to him.

Opis:
Restoration of grassland habitats useful for wildlife is an intervention often carried out in various marginal environments (such as some mountainous areas) where agriculture and grassland management have undergone deep changes in recent decades. To assess some of these interventions, a study was conducted in an Apennine reserve in Central Italy, where some grassland areas recovered through different techniques were identified, represented by shrub clearing followed by sowing of a forage mixture and shrub clearing alone, which were compared with natural areas on which no interventions were carried out. Several parameters related to the botanical composition and quality of the recovered pastoral resources were analysed. In addition, in three different experimental sites, further in-depth investigations were carried out to assess the actual animal frequentation and the impact of the in-take of the wild animals present (mainly red deer) on the occurring vegetation. Results highlighted the importance of recovery interventions in these situations, the success of mechanical treatments (even if represented by clearing shrubs alone), and the real appreciation for the recovered areas by wildlife, whose utilisation on different vegetal species could be assessed, highlighting a diverse feeding behaviour for some taxa, compared to domestic animals.

Atheism as a practice of life is becoming increasingly popular in modern western societies. A life devoid of reference to religious practices is becoming not so much an element of rebellion against the established religious traditions, but more of a certain obviousness that no one contests. Hence the question arises, how is the Church to function in such an environment and how to preach the Gospel? Pope Francis, and whim him modern theology, is increasingly emphasizing the role of the Church as a servant who, in humility and social engagement and through work of mercy, can preach the Gospel to modern man. The Church should proclaim the Gospel not through speculative theology, but through engagement with the poors and most need.

Przedmiotem artykułu jest refleksja nad duszpasterskim towarzyszeniem osobom przygotowujących się do zawarcia ślubu w Kościele katolickim proponowanym w najnowszym dokumencie Drogi wtajemniczenia katechumenalnego do życia małżeńskiego z 2023 r. Dokonana ona została na tle dotychczasowych dokumentów Magisterium oraz praktyki duszpasterskiej w zakresie przygotowania do sakramentu małżeństwa na przestrzeni ostatniego stulecia. Dla zrealizowania tak postawionego celu przeprowadzono analizę dokumentów Kościoła powszechnego, a także dokumentów Konferencji Episkopatu Polski odnoszących się do tego zagadnienia, przeanalizowano ponadto wypowiedzi poszczególnych papieży. Sobór Watykański II przyniósł istotną zmianę w spojrzeniu na sakrament małżeństwa. Konsekwencją refleksji soborowej były późniejsze wytyczne dotyczące sposobu przygotowania narzeczonych zawarte w adhortacji Familiaris consortio Jana Pawła II. Najnowszy dokument Dykasterii ds. Świeckich, Rodziny i Życia powstały po publikacji adhortacji Amoris laetitia papieża Franciszka, proponuje zmiany w towarzyszeniu narzeczonym i młodym małżonkom. W myśl założeń tego dokumentu powinno być ono realizowane poprzez drogę wtajemniczenia katechumenalnego, której pierwszym celem jest przybliżenie narzeczonych do Kościoła i rozbudzeniem wiary, a dopiero drugim bezpośrednie przygotowanie do ślubu.
The purpose of this article is to refl ect on the pastoral accompaniment of those preparing for marriage in the Catholic Church proposed in the latest document Catechumenal Pathways for Married Life presented in 2023 by the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life. It was done against the background of previous Magisterium documents and pastoral practice in the preparation for the sacrament of marriage over the last century. In order to achieve this aim, the documents of the universal Church and the documents of the Polish Episcopal Conference dealing with this issue have been analysed, as well as the statements of individual popes. The Second Vatican Council brought a significant change in the view on the sacrament of marriage. A consequence of the Council’s reflection were the later guidelines on the manner of preparation of fiancées contained in John Paul II’s exhortation Familiaris consortio. The most recent document of the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life, written after the publication of Pope Francis’ exhortation Amoris laetitia, proposes significant changes in the accompaniment of fiancées and young married couples. According to the guidelines of the document, this should be carried out through the path of catechumenal initiation, the first aim of which is to bring the engaged couples closer to the Church and to awaken their faith, and only the second is direct preparation for marriage.

It justifies their separation from the theological and practical side. It describes their content, tasks and goals.

This article presents an analysis of the youth formation method in light of the guidelines of the Pastoral da Juventude do Brasil (Youth Pastoral of Brazil – PJ), that is, its pedagogical approach. Drawing from a review of documents and written materials produced by the pastoral, Church documents, and specialized literature on youth pastoral themes, this article provides a summary of the formative processes adopted by this organization and presents its historical context. The text analyzes the model of the youth that PJ aims to develop, considering the content, social representations, and methods employed in this comprehensive formation. This model is referred to by the PJ as a “protagonist”, representing a young person with characteristics of a modern individual but with the potential to develop within the movement and collectively. The PJ seeks to foster skills such as leadership, communication, teamwork, and organization. Additionally, young people are encouraged to participate in activities that promote inter-religious and intercultural dialogue.
Este artigo apresenta uma análise sobre o método de formação da juventude à luz das diretrizes da Pastoral da Juventude do Brasil (PJ), ou seja, seu método pedagógico. Com base na revisão de documentos e materiais escritos produzidos pela pastoral, documentos da Igreja e documentos especializados em juventude sobre a temática pastoral juvenil, este artigo traz um resumo dos processos formativos adotados por essa organização e apresenta sua contextualização histórica. No texto, é feita uma análise do modelo de jovem que a PJ pretende formar, observando os conteúdos, representações sociais e métodos empregados para essa formação (formação integral). Este modelo é denominado pela PJ como “protagonista”, correspondendo a um jovem que possui particularidades de um sujeito moderno, mas com potencialidade para se desenvolver dentro do movimento e de forma coletiva. A PJ busca desenvolver habilidades como liderança, comunicação, trabalho em equipe e organização. Além disso, os jovens são incentivados a participar de atividades que promovam o diálogo inter-religioso e intercultural.

Duszpasterstwo osób żyjących w związkach niesakramentalnych z pewnością nie ma gotowych recept. Jest to raczej droga, która odsłania swój sens w miarę kroczenia po niej. Praca w duszpasterstwie uczy szukania dróg do Boga pomimo istniejącej przeszkody. Chrześcijańska miłość i miłosierdzie są fundamentem posługi duszpasterskiej w nieregularnych sytuacjach małżeńskich. Towarzyszenie, rozeznawanie istopniowa integracja to źródło posługi duszpasterza. Towarzyszenie ma nieco inną specyfikę wobec osób żyjących w zawiązkach nieformalnych, katolików związanych tylko ślubem cywilnym, żyjących w separacji i rozwiedzionych, którzy nie zawarli nowego związku albo żyją w nowych związkach cywilnych lub bez żadnej regulacji prawnej. W ramach tej ostatniej grupy należy zapoznać się ze stanem isytuacją związku, zbadać możliwość pojednania i powrotu do współmałżonka. Jeżeli powrót jest niemożliwy, trzeba zweryfikować szansę zwrócenia się do sądu kościelnego w celu zbadania ważności małżeństwa kanonicznego. Jeżeli powyższe kroki nie są wykonalne, a osoby z ważnych powodów zostają w nowym związku, wówczas duszpasterz powinien przeprowadzić rozeznanie, które pozwali stwierdzić, czy osoba prowadzona może wejść z duszpasterzem na drogę rozeznania. Osoba zakwalifikowana do procesu rozeznania wraz ze spowiednikiem lub kierownikiem duchowym powinna skoncentrować się na odkrywaniu działania Boga w jej życiu. Takie rozeznanie będzie ukazywać jej drogę w integracji ze wspólnotą Kościoła. Cenne jest pokazanie już istniejącej integracji osobom żyjącym związku nieregularnym. Poprzez modlitwę, czyny miłości i ofiarę życia te osoby łączą się z Kościołem i odkrywają Bożą pedagogikę w ich życiu. Osoby, które w procesie rozeznania spełnią określone warunki, mogą otrzymać rozgrzeszenie sakramentalne i dyskretnie zostać włączone w życie sakramentalne. Duszpasterze powinni pamiętać, że moment ten nie zamyka rozwoju duchowego osób żyjących w nieuregulowanych sytuacjach małżeńskich. Ten moment nie kończy drogi towarzyszenia i rozeznania dalszych kroków w pełnieniu woli Bożej i pełniejszej realizacji ewangelicznego zamysłu w swoim życiu małżeńskim i rodzinnym. Duszpasterstwo małżeństw niesakramentalnych jest otwartym szeroko oknem intymnej wiary, umocnieniem zawierzenia Bogu i wyznacznikiem kierunku pokonywania wszelkich życiowych trudności. Przyjęcie przez wspólnotę oraz integracja przywracają poczucie przynależności do Kościoła i pomagają odzyskać nadzieję, że jeszcze nie wszystko stracone.
Pastoral care for people living in non-sacramental relationships certainly has no readymade prescriptions. Rather, it is a path that reveals its meaning as one walks along it. The work of pastoral care teaches one to seek ways to God in spite of the obstacle that exists. Christian love and mercy are the foundation of pastoral care in irregular marital situations. Accompaniment, discernment and gradual integration are the source of the pastoral care ministry. Accompaniment has a slightly different specificity with regard to those living in informal unions, Catholics bound only by a civil marriage, those living in separation and divorced persons who have not entered into a new union or are living in new civil unions or without any legal regulation. Within the latter group, the state and situation of the relationship should be reviewed, the possibility of reconciliation and return to the spouse should be explored. If a return is not possible, the possibility of going to an ecclesiastical court to examine the validity of the canonical marriage must be reviewed. If the above-mentioned steps are not feasible, and the persons remains in the new relationship for valid reasons, then the pastor should carry out a discernment process to determine whether the person being guided can enter into a process of discernment with the pastor. The person qualified for the discernment process, together with a confessor or spiritual director, should concentrate on discovering God’s action in his or her life. Such discernment will show her the way forward in her integration into the community of the Church. It is valuable to show the already existing integration to those living an irregular relationship. Through prayer, acts of love and the sacrifice of life, these persons connect with the Church and discover God’s pedagogy in their lives. Those who meet certain conditions in the discernment process can receive sacramental absolution and be discreetly integrated into sacramental life. Pastoral workers should remember that this moment does not close the spiritual development of those living in irregular marital situations. This moment does not end the journey of accompaniment and discernment of further steps in doing God’s will and realising more fully the Gospel intention in one’s marriage and family life. The pastoral care of non-sacramental marriages is a wide-open window of intimate faith, a strengthening of trust in God and a direction for overcoming all the difficulties of life. Acceptance by the community and integration restore a sense of belonging to the Church and help regain hope that all is not yet lost.

Program duszpasterski Konferencji Episkopatu Polski na rok liturgiczny 2022/2023 „Wierzę w Kościół Chrystusowy” jako pierwszorzędne zadanie duszpasterskie wskazuje budzenie i umacnianie wiary w Kościół. Uzasadnieniem podjęcia wskazanej tematyki są obserwowane przejawy utraty zaufania wobec wspólnoty Kościoła oraz zwołanie przez Franciszka Synodu o synodalności. Soborowa wizja Kościoła: otwartego, wspólnotowego i służebnego pozostaje nadal niezrealizowanym programem odnowy. Realizacja tego zadania zakłada podniesienie u wiernych poziomu rozumienia Kościoła oraz obudzenia w nich świadomości bycia Kościołem. W wymiarze katechetycznym, zadanie to powinno zostać zrealizowane poprzez wprowadzanie do życia wspólnotowego. Celem artykułu jest wskazanie szczegółowych zadań dla katechezy wprowadzającej do życia wspólnotowego w Kościele, próba oceny obecnej sytuacji katechetyczno-duszpasterskiej oraz prezentacja podejmowanych w Kościele katowickim inicjatyw wspomagających wprowadzanie do życia wspólnotowego.
The pastoral program of the Polish Bishops’ Conference for the liturgical year 2022/2023 “I believe in the Church of Christ” indicates the awakening and strengthening of faith in the Church as the primary pastoral task. The reason for taking up the subject discussed are signs of loss of trust in the Church community that can be observed in the society and the synod on synodality convened by Francis. The conciliar vision of the Church that is open, communal and servant, remains an unimplemented program of renewal. The implementation of this task assumes raising the level of understanding of the Church among the faithful and awakening in them the awareness of being the Church. In the catechetical dimension, this task should be accomplished through introduction to community life. The aim of the article is to indicate the specific tasks for catechesis introducing to community life in the Church, an attempt to assess the current catechetical and pastoral situation and to present initiatives undertaken in the Katowice Church to support the introduction to community life.
Das pastorale Programm der Polnischen Bischofskonferenz für das Kirchenjahr 2022/2023 "Ich glaube an die Kirche Christi" benennt als vorrangige pastorale Aufgabe die Erweckung und Stärkung des Glaubens in der Kirche. Die Begründung für das Aufgreifen des genannten Themas sind die beobachteten Manifestationen eines Vertrauensverlustes in die kirchliche Gemeinschaft und die Einberufung der Synode zur Synodalität durch Franziskus. Die Vision des Konzils von einer offenen, gemeinschaftlichen und dienenden Kirche ist nach wie vor ein unrealisiertes Erneuerungsprogramm. Die Verwirklichung dieser Aufgabe setzt voraus, dass das Verständnis der Gläubigen für die Kirche gestärkt und in ihnen das Bewusstsein geweckt wird, Kirche zu sein. In der katechetischen Dimension sollte diese Aufgabe durch die Einführung in das Gemeinschaftsleben erfüllt werden. Ziel dieses Artikels ist es, spezifische Aufgaben für die Katechese zur Einführung in das Gemeinschaftsleben in der Kirche aufzuzeigen, einen Versuch zur Bewertung der gegenwärtigen katechetisch-pastoralen Situation zu unternehmen und Initiativen vorzustellen, die in der Kirche von Kattowitz zur Unterstützung der Einführung in das Gemeinschaftsleben ergriffen wurden.

Ksiądz Aleksander Murat (1911-1984) był kapłanem diecezji lubelskiej. Jeszcze w czasie studiów historycznych na Katolickim Uniwersytecie Lubelskim został zatrudniony w uczelni jako młodszy asystent. Po wybuchu II wojny światowej najpierw był kapelanem wojskowym, a następnie trafił do więzienia na Zamku w Lublinie, a stamtąd do obozów koncentracyjnych w Sachsenhausen i Dachau. Tam doczekał wyzwolenia. Wyjechał do Francji, gdzie był kapelanem tamtejszej Polonii, a od 1948 r. osiadł w Wielkiej Brytanii. Został zapamiętany jako długoletni proboszcz polskiej parafii w Leicester.
Father Aleksander Murat (1911-1984) was a priest of the Lublin diocese. During the study of the history at The Catholic University of Lublin he was employed there as a junior assistant. After the outbreak of the World War II first he was been a military chaplain, then he was imprisoned in the Castle of Lublin and from there he sent to concentration camps in Sachsenhausen and Dachau. There he lived to see the liberation. He was gone to France where he was a chaplain of the local Polish migration and from 1948 he settled in Great Britain. He was remembered as a longtime priest of the Polish parish in Leicester.

Opis:
The study sheds light on the problem of communication in the Church and proposes a model of dialogical communication based on data analysis. It must be in harmony with the content of speculative theology, but at the same time it must meet the linguistic needs of the present time. Pope Francis, with the Synod, is channeling many changes in the right direction. Empirical analyses of media coverage of representations of the Catholic Church, provide further support for this theme. On the one hand, we have the press in Slovenia, which is saturated with news about the Church, and on the other hand, we have Radio and Television, which are undernourished. Often, the Church is presented along with celebrities, celebrations, politics and charity work. If we take into consideration the dialogical model of communication, these issues can be entry points for better and more qualitative communication.

Niniejsza edycja źródeł historycznych dotyczy listów duchownego archidiecezji lwowskiej obrządku łacińskiego ks. Wincentego Danka (1870-1945) do metropolity lwowskiego abp. Józefa Bilczewskiego (1860-1923). Dokumenty te odnoszą się do lat 1900-1919, a więc niemal całego pontyfikatu lwowskiego hierarchy. Przechowywane są w spuściźnie po metropolicie w Archiwum Archidiecezji Lwowskiej ob. łac. w Krakowie. Nie zachowały się jednak listy abp. Bilczewskiego do ks. Danka. Tym bardziej cenne są te, które stanowią przedmiot niniejszej edycji choćby z tej racji, że nigdy dotąd nie były wykorzystywane w badaniach naukowych. Dodatkowym ich atutem jest zawarta w nich problematyka zabiegów polonijnego duszpasterza w Budapeszcie ks. Danka o zorganizowanie systematycznego duszpasterstwa dla rodaków, a nade wszystko starania o budowę kościoła. Inicjator tej akcji, za aprobatą tak kościelnych i państwowych czynników węgierskich, jak również abp. Bilczewskiego podjął szeroko zakrojoną akcję gromadzenia funduszy i poparcia w środowisku węgierskim, amerykańskim i galicyjskim. Nawiązał kontakty z rodami arystokracji węgierskiej spokrewnionej ze sferami polskiego ziemiaństwa, pozyskał względy osób powiązanych z dworem cesarskim w Wiedniu, zdobył zaufanie niektórych członków rządu i parlamentu Austro-Węgier, co miało zaowocować zabezpieczeniem bazy materialnej planowanej inwestycji. Realizacji tak szczytnej idei przeszkodził wybuch I wojny światowej, wskutek czego finalizacja budowy kościoła pw. Wspomożenia Wiernych doszła do skutku dopiero w 1926 r. Dokonano wówczas poświęcenia świątyni, a jej konsekracja miała miejsce cztery lata później.
This edition of historical sources contains letters written by a priest of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lviv, Fr Wincenty Danek (1870-1945), to Metropolitan of Lviv Archbishop Józef Bilczewski (1860-1923). The documents are from the years 1900-1919, covering almost the whole pontificate of the Lviv hierarch. As the legacy of the metropolitan, they are held in the Archives of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lviv in Kraków. Unfortunately, Abp. Bilczewski’s letters to Fr Danek have not been preserved, so the letters presented in this edition are all the more valuable; it also because they have never been used in scholarly research before. The letters talk about the efforts of Father Danek, a priest of the Polish diaspora in Budapest, to organise a systematic pastoral ministry for his compatriots and, most of all, to build a church. With the approval of the Hungarian church and state authorities, as well as Abp. Bilczewski, Danek launched an extensive campaign to raise funds and support in Hungarian and Galician circles. He established contacts with Hungarian aristocratic families having blood ties with Polish landowners, won the favours of people connected with the imperial court in Vienna, and gained the trust of some members of the Austro-Hungarian government and parliament, which was intended to secure the financial basis for the planned investment. The noble project of erecting a church was hampered by the outbreak of the World War I, so it did not come to fruition until 1926, when the Church of the Help of the Faithful was completed. The church was blessed, but its consecration took place four years later.

Artykuł przedstawia analizę wyzwań związanych z tożsamością pielgrzyma chrześcijańskiego w obliczu dynamicznego rozwoju turystyki religijnej. Inflacja semantyczna określająca mianem pielgrzyma każdego wędrowca oznacza nową konfigurację działań duszpasterskich, zwłaszcza sposoby radzenia sobie z konsumpcjonizmem sacrum, jaki wiele osób dostrzega. W kontekście obserwacji Zygmunta Baumana o przekształceniu pielgrzyma w turystę, artykuł proponuje refleksję odwrotną: W jaki sposób turysta staje się pielgrzymem w realiach współczesnych szlaków pielgrzymkowych? Za punkt odniesienia wybrano Camino de Santiago i przeanalizowano aktualnie prowadzone działania duszpasterskie, zarówno w wymiarze instytucjonalnym, jak i indywidualnym.
This article presents an analysis of the current challenges to the identity of the Christian pilgrim in the face of the dynamic growth of religious tourism. The semantic inflation that results in every wanderer being described as a pilgrim implies a new configuration of pastoral care, especially in terms of responding to the perceived “consumerism of the sacred.” In the context of Z. Bauman’s observations concerning the transformation of the pilgrim into the tourist, the article proposes a reverse type of reflection, that is, how the tourist can become a pilgrim in the reality of modern-day pilgrimage routes. The Camino de Santiago was chosen as the point of reference, and current pastoral activities – both institutional and individual – were analyzed.
