Opis:: In his apostolic exhortation Evangelii gaudium, in which Pope Francis wrote about some of the modern world challenges, he pointed out to the challenges for urban cultures emphasizing the fact, that “the new cultures (…) constantly being born in these vast new expanses where Christians are no longer the customary interpreters or generators of meaning” along with changes undergoing there “create are a privileged locus of the new evangelization” (EG 73). The Pope also noted that “this challenges us to imagine innovative spaces and possibilities for prayer and communion which are more attractive and meaningful for city dwellers” (ibidem). Responding to the Pope’s appeal, the author of this article addresses the issue of the future of the pastoral ministry carried out in the cities in the spirit of the pastoral conversion and missionary pastoral ministry (EG 25; 33-35). at the beginning, he presents the chosen sociological determinants concerning the urban pastoral ministry (1), then he describes the theological grounds of the urban pastoral ministry, pointing out to the teaching of the Magisterium regarding the pastoral conversion and missionary pastoral ministry (2). The final result of his reflections is depicting the lines of action which would lead to the renewal and development of the pastoral ministry in the cities in Poland (3).

Pastoral Psychology is a discipline which aids Pastoral Theology with understanding the mechanisms that influence contemporary man’s actions and life choices. The interdisciplinary approach can bear especially good fruits in the field of individual pastoral ministry as well as in leading small communities. One requirement of such an integrated collaboration of both theological disciplines is the methodological correctness. In such a way we can avoid the danger of confusing the pastoral work with a kind of psychological therapy.

Do jej rozwoju przyczynił się także II Sobór Watykański, który zaoferował nowe perspektywy jej rozwoju, nakreślił odnowione cele i sugerował odmienny styl i metody badań. Dlatego zagadnienie statusu metodologicznego teologii pastoralnej jest zagadnieniem aktualnym także dziś. Jego specyfikę wyznacza odwoływanie się w badaniach pastoralnych zarówno do źródeł teologicznych jak i pozateologicznych. Autorzy artykułu podejmują próbę określenia relacji teologii pastoralnej do jej nauk pomocniczych, próbując zarazem ukazać istotę psychologii pastoralnej, pedagogiki pastoralnej i socjologii pastoralnej. Opisują specyfikę interdyscyplinarnego uprawiania teologii pastoralnej, koncentrując się dziedzinach pozateologicznych. Proponują także pewne sugestie metodologiczne, które mają być punktem wyjścia do merytorycznej dyskusji i zaproponowania nowych rozwiązań.
The debates related to the understanding of pastoral theology are being held continuously. The Second Vatican Council has exceptionally contributed to this development, since its pastoral character led to offering prospects for setting new goals and for designing new style and methods of research. Therefore it is worth triggering off a reflection on the method of applying pastoral theology. It is of specific character, since it draws from two sources – both theological and non-theological. The authors of this article have been inspired by the document issued by the International Theological Commission Theology today: Perspectives, Principles and Criteria (2012), which emphasizes the fact that the practical theology has greatly profited from being combined with sociology, psychology and pedagogy (No. 81). Therefore, they decided to attempt to specify the relationship between pastoral theology and these sciences. They ask whether pastoral psychology, pedagogy and sociology are sub-disciplines of pastoral theology, sub-fields of non-theological sciences or whether they are interdisciplinary sciences of theoretical and practical character, whose achievements are exploited in the process of creating theological models of the pastoral activity, comprising also the paths for it. Carrying out such considerations, the authors remind the essence and goals of pastoral theology, they stress its nature, which is both prescriptive and practical, presenting at the same time its methods. Furthermore, they discuss the specifics of practicing interdisciplinary pastoral theology, concentrating on the non-theological fields. Finally, they propose some theological suggestions, stipulating explicitly that they are not of the conclusive character and they are just supposed to initiate a substantive discussion aiming at formulating new solutions.

Opis:: The main objective of pastoral theologians is to develop theologically accurate and practically effective models of salvific activity of the Church, known as pastoral care. A pastoral model is a simplified, descriptive, graphical reflection of the whole or a part of the complex salvific activity of the Church, embracing both a normative and practical element of the activity, which makes it possible to analyze and evaluate it, as well as to offer some predictions for the future (N. Hepp). The aim of this article is to present the state of research concerning the current models of salvific activity of the Church within the scope of pastoral theology and to direct us towards a need to develop new models that will take the socio-cultural context into account. Nowadays, we can talk of three such models that have been scientifically discussed on a global scale (the human-divine model by F. X. Arnold, the community model by F. Klostermann, and the preferential option for the poor). It seems, then, that there is a space for a new model of salvific activity of the Church, centered on the principle of love, or alternatively, the model of dialogue.

Opis:: Współczesna teologia pastoralna podkreśla rolę planowania w prowadzeniu działalności duszpasterskiej. W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono praktyczne narzędzia służące do planowania duszpasterskiego w oparciu o metodę duszpasterskiego rozeznania włoskiego pastoralisty S. Lanzy. Metoda ta obejmuje trzy etapy: analizę i ocenę sytuacji, decyzję duszpasterską i projekt, realizację i weryfikację. Każdy z tych etapów wymaga zastosowania odpowiednich narzędzi. Wiele z tych narzędzi wyrasta z doświadczeń świeckiej teorii organizacji i zarządzania. Ich zastosowanie w praktyce duszpasterskiej może pomóc w bardziej skutecznym działaniu. Należy jednak zawsze pamiętać, iż prawdziwą naturą planowania duszpasterskiego jest rozeznawanie woli Bożej.
Contemporary pastoral theology emphasizes the role of planning in pastoral ministry. This article presents practical tools for pastoral planning based on the method of pastoral discernment of the Italian pastoralist S. Lanza. This method consists of three phases: analysis and evaluation of the situation, pastoral decision and project, its implementation and verification. Each of these steps requires the use of appropriate tools. Many of these tools come from the theory of experience of secular organization and management. Their use in pastoral practice can help pastors operate more efficiently. However, one should always remember that the true nature of pastoral planning is to discern the will of God.

Opis:: The anthropological, cultural, social and religious changes taking place over the last decades have strongly influenced the shape of marriage and family life. By reading “the signs of the times, ”the Church undertakes a reflection on issues related to marriage and the family. In the dimension of the Catholic Church, this reflection is made especially during synods of bishops which yield apostolic exhortations presenting renewed visions of pastoral care. Regarding marriage and family, they are found in John Paul II’s exhortation Familiaris Consortio and Francis’ exhortation Amoris Laetitia. This article addresses the issue connected with mutual relationships between the pastoral concepts contained in these documents. Its presentation revolves around three parts which correspond to the methodology of pastoral-theological reflection: evangelical discernment of the situation of marriage and the family (cairological premise), establishment of pastoral paradigms (criteriological premise) and directions of pastoral solutions (pastoral-praxeological conclusion). The article shows both Amoris Laetitia’s continuation of the concept of pastoral care of families presented in Familiaris Consortio and the originality of thoughts and change of pastoral paradigms in the teaching of Pope Francis.

Opis:: The article discusses the missionary option as indicated by Pope Francis in his first apostolic exhortation. This challenging option can be lived fully only through a total commitment of all church structures. That is why it is interesting to reflect how one of the parish structures, namely the pastoral council, can contribute – according to its competences – to put into practice what has been enunciated in Evangelii gaudium.A particular contribution of the parish pastoral council consists primarily in the development of an adequate parish pastoral plan, which would have as its main goal to educate the parish as a missionary community, responsible for the transmission of the Christian faith in today’s world. The article also features some directions from the Papal document which must be taken into account and some practical suggestions which aid in reaching the delineated goals. A commitment of the parish pastoral council to fulfil this missionary choice enables this structure to see its role as oriented “to promote conformity of the life and actions of the People of God with the Gospel”.

Opis:: Mając na uwadze zadania ewangelizacyjne parafii we współczesnym świecie, Kongregacja Duchowieństwa, w dniu 29 czerwca 2020 roku wydała Instrukcję Nawrócenie pastoralne wspólnoty parafialnej w posłudze misji ewangelizacyjnej Kościoła. Dokument ten, składający się z dziesięciu rozdziałów, zawiera wyjaśnienie licznych przepisów CIC dotyczących parafii i duszpasterzy. Autor omawia trzy podstawowe, najbardziej „newralgiczne” rozdziały Instrukcji: VII. Parafia i inne jednostki wewnętrzne diecezji. VIII. Formy zwyczajne i nadzwyczajne powierzenia opieki pasterskiej o wspólnotę parafialną. IX. Funkcje i posługi parafialne. Postanowienia tych rozdziałów w przeważającej mierze odnoszą się do określonych norm CIC, dotyczących przede wszystkim parafii oraz osób i instytucji z nią związanych. Ukazano w nich rolę parafii jako szczególnego miejsca w misji ewangelizacyjnej Kościoła, a także wyjaśniono wiele kwestii związanych z posługą duszpasterską kapłanów (przede wszystkim proboszczów), diakonów, osób konsekrowanych i wiernych świeckich.
Taking into account the evangelization tasks of the parish in the modern world, on June 29, 2020, the Congregation of the Clergy issued the Instruction “Pastoral conversion of the parish community in the service of the evangelizing mission of the Church”. This document, which is divided into ten chapters, explains the many CIC regulations regarding parishes and pastors. The author discusses three basic, most “critical” chapters of the Instruction: VII. The parish and other internal units of the diocese. VIII. Ordinary and extraordinary forms of entrusting pastoral care to the parish community. IX. Functions and parish services. The provisions of these chapters overwhelmingly refer to certain CIC norms concerning, first and foremost, parishes and people and institutions associated with them. They show the role of the parish as a special place in the Church’s evangelizing mission, and explain many issues related to the pastoral ministry of priests (especially parish priests), deacons, consecrated persons and lay faithful.

Opis:: On 20th July 2020 Congregation for the Clergy issued an instruction The pastoral conversion of the Parish community in the service of the evangelising mission of the Church. This document brings together the previous teachings of the Magisterium regarding the Parish community, approaching them from the perspective of the Pope Francis’s teaching calling for pastoral conversion of the whole Church, which should result in the missionary attitude of bringing the message of Gospel to all the people. Issuing of the instruction evoked different responses. Some of them were positive, praising the presenting of the integrated knowledge regarding the legal basis of the Parrish community functioning, as well as speaking highly of this document in the context of mapping out a wide range of the contemporary circumstances in which the parishes function. Also, providing the inspiration for the renewal of the Parish Ministry was ap-preciated. However, some criticisms were also raised, regarding the lack of new solutions aiming at involving the lay faithful in the life of the Parish community, putting too little emphasis on the necessity of the personal parishes development and the offer of the detailed pastoral methods. The author describes the main ideas included in this document, which has not reached a wider readership in Poland. At the same time, he (1), presents the discussion that the issuing of the instruction has evoked (2), referring to the document itself and suggesting some inspiration for creative searching for the ways of reaching the renewal of the Parish community in the context of the Pastoral conversion (3).

Opis:: Jean-Marie Lustiger admired John Paul II and he was devoted to him. They both had similar origin. The Cardinal of Paris often accompanied the pope in his pastoral visits. He perceived John Paul II as the man of Providence. He was convinced that God had prepared him to this role. Jean-Marie Lustiger emphasized the attitudes of John Paul II that attracted the attention and admiration of observers. For instance: pray, holiness, attentive pastor and good relation with young people. Jean-Marie Lustiger as an attentive observer also focused his attention on the pastoral methods of John Paul II. In his utterances he often perceived the following methods: each person was important, defense of person’s dignity, the ability to speak with each man, modern language, importance of the pastoral visits and sui generis spiritual pedagogic. Jean-Marie Lustiger noticed radical change of perspective in preaching and in pastoral action of John Paul II. According to him the pope perceived the challenges of the modern times, evaluated needs of the humanity and gave the appropriate answers. For these he did not choose politics, sociology or even anthropology as a reflection but addressed to the hurt human who was redeem by Jesus Christ.

Opis:: Parafia nie jest z ustanowienia Bożego, lecz jest wytworem Kościoła historycznego. W niej realizuje się wspólnota wierzących w Jezusa Chrystusa przez przepowiadanie słowa Bożego, życie wiarą w miłości braterskiej oraz sprawowanie Eucharystii i inne czynności liturgiczne. Nie pomniejszając elementu łaski, nieograniczonego działania samego Boga, misteryjnego charakteru misji Kościoła, można poddać analizie teologicznopastoralnej widzialną strukturę organizacyjną parafii, pokazując możliwości planowania strategicznego w celu zoptymalizowania efektów posługi duszpasterskiej. Celem tej refleksji jest poszukiwanie odpowiedzi na pytanie, jak dobrze przygotować, implementować, a także ewaluować plan strategiczny w parafii? Ewaluacja nie ma na celu pomniejszania czyjejś roli w trakcie implementacji wypracowanej dla parafii strategii pastoralnej, lecz stanowi punkt wyjścia do dyskusji nad korektami starego i wypracowaniem nowego, udoskonalonego planu strategicznego dla parafii. Artykuł ma charakter przeglądowy, a jego ważnym tworzywem – obok źródeł teologicznych – są opracowania z zakresu współczesnej prakseologii pastoralnej.
The parish is not established by God, but it is a result of the activity of the historical Church. In the parish, a community of believers in Jesus Christ is realized through the preaching of the word of God, the life of faith in brotherly love and the celebration of the Eucharist and other liturgical activities. Without underestimating the element of grace, the unlimited action of God himself, the mysterious character of the mission of the Church, the visible organizational structure of the parish can be subjected to a theological and pastoral analysis. Strategic planning opportunities can be shown to optimize the effects of pastoral ministry. The aim of this reflection is to look for an answer to the question how to prepare, implement and finally evaluate the strategic plan in the parish? Evaluation is not intended to diminish one’s role during the implementation of the pastoral strategy developed for the parish, but it is the starting point for a discussion on the corrections of the old and the development of a new, improved strategic plan for the parish. The article is of review nature and its important material, apart from theological sources, are studies in the field of modern pastoral praxeology.

Opis:: L’Astrée de Honoré d’Urfé abonde en épisodes dramatiques qui brisent l’idylle bucolique. Les scènes de suicide de Damon ou de Chriséide ; le contexte violent du mariage de Placidie montrent les protagonistes dans les situations traumatisantes. Toutefois ils gardent tous leur sang-froid, en préférant agir au lieu de se lamenter. Ainsi Honoré d’Urfé montre aux lecteurs la manière de survivre les situations dramatiques. Il a écrit son roman pour les lecteurs qui ont pour la plupart survécu au cauchemar des guerres de religion, qui n’étaient pas étrangers aux choix dramatiques, à l’imminence de la mort et qui ont réalisé que dans une situation critique, ce n’était pas la peur, mais une action et un pragmatisme qui pouvaient sauver leur vie. D’Urfé est un excellent pédagogue. Dans le roman pastoral, en confrontant ses héros à des choix dramatiques, il montre aux lecteurs quels types d’actions sont rationnels et efficaces, et en quoi la vie diffère de la littérature.
L’Astrée, a pastoral novel of Honoré d’Urfé abounds in dramatic episodes that shatter the bucolic idyll. The suicide scenes of Damon or Chriséide; the violent context of Placidie’s marriage show the protagonists in traumatic situations. However, they all keep their cool, preferring to act instead of lamenting. Thus Honoré d’Urfé shows readers how to survive dramatic situations. He wrote his novel for readers who had mostly survived the nightmare of religious wars, who were no strangers to dramatic choices, the imminence of death, and who realized that in a critical situation, It was not fear, but action and pragmatism that could save their lives. D’Urfé is an excellent teacher. In the pastoral novel, by confronting its heroes with dramatic choices, it shows readers what kinds of actions are rational and effective, and how life differs from literature.

Opis:: Pastoral accompaniment of spouses in the development of faith is part of the essence of the Church’s salvific activity towards people living in the sacrament of marriage. The pastoral accompaniment of the spouses is realized by the presbyters through evangelization, the preaching of the word of God, the catechesis of the spouses and parents, sacramental ministry and spiritual direction, and finally especially through the holiness of priestly life. The research carried out among the clergy of the Archdiocese of Przemyśl has shown the need for permanent formation of the presbyters to support the pastoral accompaniment of the spouses and motivate the clergy for this ministry.
Duszpasterskie towarzyszenie małżonkom w rozwoju wiary wpisuje się w istotę zbawczej działalności Kościoła skierowanej wobec osób żyjących w sakramencie małżeństwa. Wsparcie małżonków płynące ze strony duszpasterzy jest realizowane przez prezbiterów poprzez ewangelizację, przepowiadanie słowa Bożego, katechezę małżonków i rodziców, posługę sakramentalną i kierownictwo duchowe, w końcu szczególnie poprzez świętość kapłańskiego życia. Przeprowadzone badania wśród duchownych archidiecezji przemyskiej dowiodły potrzebę formacji stałej prezbiterów, wspomagającej duszpasterskie towarzyszenie małżonków i motywującej duchownych do tej posługi.

Opis:: This article intends to show that the image of the Devil can be understood at the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG) not only as a religious symbol, but also as an agent of fear and an instrument of pastoral power, updated by this Church that endorses the neoliberal standards of success, present in Brazilian society. It also describes the image of the Devil as an audiovisual discursive construction and indicates its meaning for the religious imagery on the UCKG stages. In order to do so, the text invokes the studies of Patrícia Birman about the UCKG, as well as the theories of Bauman and of authors who elaborated on Foucault’s thoughts on fear and pastoral power. This study has its corpus based on videos of exorcisms created on the UCKG stages and shared on YouTube by the Church itself.
Este artigo pretende mostrar que a imagem do Diabo pode ser compreendida na Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus (IURD) não somente como símbolo religioso, mas também como agente do medo e instrumento de poder pastoral, atualizado por essa igreja, que endossa os padrões neoli-berais de sucesso presentes na sociedade brasileira. Também descreve a imagem do Diabo como uma construção discursiva audiovisual e indica seu significado para o imaginário religioso nos palcos da IURD. Para tanto, este texto tráz os estudos de Patrícia Birman sobre a IURD e mobili-za as teorias de Bauman e de autores que se debruçaram sobre as teorias de Foucault sobre o me-do e o poder pastoral. Este estudo tem seu corpus composto de vídeos de exorcismos criados nos palcos da IURD e compartilhados no YouTube pela própria Igreja.

Opis:: The article presents the situation of the specific pastoral service after the Second Vatican Council with focus on the pastoral deaf service. At the beginning, the differences between the specific vs specialist pastoral service are clarified, classifying the deaf persons as for the specific pastoral service. Subsequently, referring to the history of the pastoral deaf service, the influence of the Second Vatican Council on the pastoral deaf service formation is analysed, with a particular emphasis on the situation in Poland. The performed analysis of the Council documents concerning the pastoral deaf care has proven carelessness rather than care for this group of people, attending them only with the poor and the sick. The Council has not been also a breakthrough moment for the pastoral deaf service as well as the activities in this field have been a bottom-up process, initiated by dedicated priests and consecrated or secular persons.
W powyższym artykule została przedstawiona sytuacja duszpasterstwa specjalnego po Soborze Watykańskim II na przykładzie duszpasterstwa niesłyszących. Na wstępie wyjaśniono różnice pomiędzy duszpasterstwem specjalnym a specjalistycznym, kwalifikując osoby niesłyszące w zakres duszpasterstwa specjalnego. Następnie na kanwie zarysu historii duszpasterstwa niesłyszących przyjrzano się wpływowi Soboru Watykańskiego II na kształtowanie tegoż duszpasterstwa, ze szczególnym zaznaczeniem gruntu Kościoła w Polsce. Przeprowadzona analiza dokumentów soborowych pod kątem objęcia troską osób niesłyszących wykazała raczej brak troski niż troskę soboru wobec tych osób i zajęcie się nimi tylko przy okazji osób chorych i ubogich. Sobór nie okazał się też momentem przełomowym w dziedzinie duszpasterstwa niesłyszących, a działania na polu tego duszpasterstwa rodziły się oddolnie z inicjatywy gorliwych duszpasterzy, osób konsekrowanych i zaangażowanych świeckich.

This article is an attempt to respond to the above problems and, using the example of the Catholic Church in Poland, shows the possibility of instilling a model of self-help groups for specialist pastoral care involving people experiencing life crises and wanting more intense religious development.

Opis:: According to the Department of Foreign Affairs more and more people come to Poland in order to settle here. Although Poland is considered to be one of the least attractive countries in the European Union for incomers, many of them marry Polish citizens, find a job, study or start their own business in Poland. Such people live in big cities as well as in towns, becoming the members of local communities. Some of them are Catholics of various denominations, others are Christians from other Churches, some are non-believers or remain indifferent to any religion. They all, however, constitute a challenge for pastoral care of the family which aims at bringing them closer to Christ. Parish pastoral care priests, as it is indicated in the teaching of the Church, can undertake various initiatives according to the religious or denominational affiliation of the immigrants and their needs. The forms of assistance of pastoral care priests involve satisfying spiritual, psychological and material needs of incomers. However, the main aim of pastoral care is to integrate the newcomers with the local community.

Opis:: Kościół katolicki, chcąc skutecznie realizować swoją zbawczą misję, potrzebuje refleksji, która pomoże dostosować metody i formy działalności duszpasterskiej do okoliczności, miejsca i czasu, w którym funkcjonuje. Teologia pastoralna odpowiada na to zapotrzebowanie, podejmując przestrzeń interdyscyplinarnych badań nad aktualnym czasem istnienia Kościoła. Na gruncie teologicznym konieczne jest rozwijanie socjologii pastoralnej, której głównym celem jest zbieranie i systematyzowanie przydatnej w duszpasterstwie wiedzy z zakresu socjologii ogólnej i jej szczegółowych odmian, zwłaszcza socjologii religii i socjologii katolicyzmu. Pozwala ona na zastosowanie wiedzy socjologicznej do konkretnego obszaru badań dotyczących działalności duszpasterskiej i jej interpretacji teologicznej. Socjologia pastoralna nie ma jednak charakteru jedynie interpretacyjnego. Rości sobie także prawo do wykorzystywania wiedzy socjologicznej przy ustalaniu norm i zasad, które będą służyły skutecznemu rozwojowi działalności duszpasterskiej.
The Catholic Church, wanting to effectively realize its saving mission, needs reflection that will help adapt methods and forms of pastoral activity to the circumstances of the place and time in which it operates. Pastoral theology responds to this demand by undertaking a space of interdisciplinary research on the current time of the Church's existence. On theological grounds, it is necessary to develop pastoral sociology, whose main goal is to collect and systematize knowledge of general sociology useful in pastoral care and its specific varieties, especially the sociology of religion and sociology of Catholicism. It allows the application of sociological knowledge to a specific area of research regarding pastoral activity and its theological interpretation. Pastoral sociology, however, is not merely interpretative. It also claims the right to use sociological knowledge in establishing norms and principles that will serve the effective development of pastoral activity.

Hence the question arises, how is the Church to function in such an environment and how to preach the Gospel? Pope Francis, and whim him modern theology, is increasingly emphasizing the role of the Church as a servant who, in humility and social engagement and through work of mercy, can preach the Gospel to modern man. The Church should proclaim the Gospel not through speculative theology, but through engagement with the poors and most need.

Opis:: In 1853, a Catholic mission station was founded in Olecko. Land property was bought with an intention to build a church. Johannes Osinski became the first priest of this town on 22nd May 1853. His duties included the organisation of Catholic ministry in the Olecko district. In the years 1859-1861, a Neogothic church was built in Olecko; it was blessed on 1st December 1861. Bishop Antoni Frenzel dedicated the temple to the Holy Cross and Saint Adalbert on 27th August 1862. A Catholic school in this town was founded probably in 1866, but it was closed quite soon afterwards. Rural chapels serviced by the priest of Olecko were founded, among others, in a village named Borawskie and in a settlement named Kozia Góra (Ziegenberg). At the end of the 19th century, the priest from Olecko also celebrated Catholic Masses in Gołdap. One of the greatest problems of the Catholic community in Olecko was to guarantee appropriate remuneration for the priest. He received an yearly allowance from the Boniface and Adalbert Associationin Frombork. Numerous construction and redecoration works on the church buildings were also funded from this source. In 1929, the legal status of the Olecko pastoral institution was approved by the state authorities.

Opis:: The aspirations of Pope Francis for the renewal of pastoral care of the family are based on the deeply theologically rooted principles of the Church’s proper role. In the exhortation Amoris Laetitia, the principle of God’s grace, the principle of pastoral love, the paschal principle of sacrifice and the principle of the Church’s missionary activity are all clearly visible. In the document, we can also find a few directions for the renewal of the pastoral care of the family. The strengthening of the focus of the parish as well as the strengthening of the focus of spouses and the domestic Church on pastoral care of the family are crucial. Further on, we find encouragement for the renewal of the preparation for marriage within the ecclesial community, and for the development and strengthening of the pastoral care of married couples. The Pope sees the care for those in irregular situations as an extension of the pastoral care of engaged and married couples. Consequently, for the realization of the desired directions in the development and renewal of pastoral care of the family, it is necessary to expand and deepen the formation of seminarians and priests for their pastoral work with engaged persons, married couples and families.

Opis:: The study sheds light on the problem of communication in the Church and proposes a model of dialogical communication based on data analysis. It must be in harmony with the content of speculative theology, but at the same time it must meet the linguistic needs of the present time. Pope Francis, with the Synod, is channeling many changes in the right direction. Empirical analyses of media coverage of representations of the Catholic Church, provide further support for this theme. On the one hand, we have the press in Slovenia, which is saturated with news about the Church, and on the other hand, we have Radio and Television, which are undernourished. Often, the Church is presented along with celebrities, celebrations, politics and charity work. If we take into consideration the dialogical model of communication, these issues can be entry points for better and more qualitative communication.

Opis:: Suffering and pain are part of every human life, despite the fact that modern science has made enormous efforts to eliminate them. In this paper, we deal with the mystery of suffering from a philosophical and biblical point of view. We pay special attention to the thought message of P. Strauss, a Slovak doctor and convert, according to which pain is a part of the concept of life. The second part presents the practical-pastoral aspects of care for the sick and suffering. The Christian understanding of this care is about the realization of Christ’s power and love. At the same time, it is important to maintain sensitivity to the inner attitudes of the suffering person, his value equipment and religious beliefs.

Opis:: The Synod of the Lutheran Church in Poland has proclaimed the year 2011-year of the Pastoral Care. That is the reason why the article focuses on the pastoral care one of the most important missions of the Protestant Church. The author shows first the place of the ecclesiological approach in current Polish theological discussion among protestants, and then discusses the subject in the light of the Symbolical Books of Lutheranism, i.e. the Book of Concordia from 1580, especially the Augsburg Confession. The understanding of the Church is one of the most important subject of the early Reformation theology, but the pastoral care is almost absent in the records of confessional books of the 16th century. The author concludes that the pastoral dimension of the Church is rather more of practical than a theoretical nature. In fact the pastoral care is a particularly challenging task of the whole Christianity.

Opis:: The presented article is an attempt to answer the question about the legal character of pastoral work of parish priests and parish assistants in the light of the polish law. Analysis of labour legislations, social insurance, current tax regulations and civil law leads to conclusion that priestly ministry cannot be classified as employment contract or any other form of employment. This sort of ministry can’t be listed in any known type of legal agreement. In such a case contractus innominatus (nameless contract) should be applied to the clerical ministry. Opis:: One of modern challenges facing not only politicians, economists or sociologists is the demographic makeup of Poland, which is a derivative of tendencies that are visible in the whole of Europe. Demographic changes are not leaving the Church unaffected. One has to take into account the decreasing number of children and the youth, who are the a major target of pastoral initiatives in Poland. The adult and elderly groups existing in the Church will grow, which will create a demand for new and adequate pastoral solutions for them. The pastoral care of families, elderly, lonely and sick will face special challenges. The article attempts to present the lines of development of activities conducted in the mentioned sectors of pastoral care which the Polish Church should pay attention to.

Opis:: Adhortacja apostolska Evangelii gaudium posiada pastoralny charakter i jest w pewnym sensie tekstem programowym papieża Franciszka. Analizując jej treść, można wskazać kilka priorytetów pastoralnych, które są aktualne również w polskiej rzeczywistości. Novum adhortacji to wezwanie do misyjnego przeobrażenia Kościoła, nazywanego także nawróceniem pastoralnym. Takie nawrócenie zakłada oderwanie się od utartych ścieżek działalności zbawczej i odważne poszukiwanie nowych rozwiązań, aby dotrzeć z Dobrą Nowiną także do tych, którzy są na peryferiach Kościoła. Wśród priorytetów pastoralnej posługi Kościoła w Polsce można także wymienić duszpasterstwo rodzin i duszpasterstwo związków niesakramentalnych. Ważnym tematem jest radosne głoszenie Dobrej Nowiny przez wszystkie stany w Kościele-Wspólnocie, który naucza i jednocześnie jest nauczany. Papież Franciszek sporo uwagi poświęcił stylowi posługi ewangelizacyjnej oraz preferencyjnej opcji na rzecz ubogich.
Evangelii Gaudium, an apostolic exhortation, has a pastoral character and it may be regarded as the manifesto of Pope Francis. The analysis of its content can point to some pastoral priorities which are also present in the Polish reality. The novelty of the exhortation is a vocation to the missionary transformation of the Church, also known as a pastoral conversion. This conversion involves the separation from the beaten track of the redeeming activity and the brave quest for new solutions in order to spread the Good News to those who are on the periphery of the Church. Among the priorities of the pastoral ministry of the Church in Poland, one can also name the pastoral care of families, as well as of non-sacramental marriages. The joyful proclamation of the Good News for all states in the Church-Community is also an important theme, which teaches and is taught at the same time. Pope Francis gives his due attention to the style of the ministry of evangelization and the preferential option for the poor.

Tadeusza Kościuszki oraz Naczelny Dziekan I Armii Wojska Polskiego, drugi z braci pozostawał zwykle poza większym zainteresowaniem historyków, choć był bardzo zaangażowany w duszpasterstwo wśród Polonii we Francji, w okresie II wojny światowej i w latach powojennych. Obaj są przedstawieni w świetle najważniejszych wydarzeń ich życia, przede wszystkim w latach 1939-1945. Uwzględniony jest głównie aspekt służby Polakom na obczyźnie, z podaniem fragmentów korespondencji prywatnej, dotąd mało studiowanej. Pośrednim celem niniejszej publikacji jest zwrócenie uwagi na wybitną postać Karola Kubsza, wyjątkową tak z racji osiągnięć praktycznych jak i wymiaru duchowości osobistej. Pełniejsza biografia o. Karola Kubsza jest w trakcie opracowywania.
This paper is dedicated to two brothers and priests Oblates of the Immaculate Lady Wilhelm and Karol Kubsz. Wilhelm Kubsz is well-known in Polish historiography as the first chaplain of the Tadeusz Kościuszko Division and the Principal Deacon of the First Polish Army; the second brother usually remained outside the scope of historians’ interest, although he was vitally committed to pastoral care for Poles in France during the Second World War and in the post-war years. They are both presented in the light of the most important evewnts in their lifetime, especially in the years 1939-1945. This paper focuses mainlly on their service for Poles abroad, including excerpts from private correspondence that has been little studied so far. The indirect goal of the present publication is to attract attention on the prominent figure of Karol Kubsz, so exceptional due to his practical accomplishments and personal spirituality. A more complete biography of Fr. Karol Kubsz is under editorial work.

Druga część przedstawia instrumenty marketingu usług oraz wskazuje na możliwości zastosowania ich w duszpasterstwie. W trzeciej części wskazano na strategie marketingu usług, które mogą być wykorzystane w działalności Kościoła. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na marketing partnerski, pod niektórymi względami przypominający posługę pastoralną.
The pastoral care of the Catholic Church shows characteristics similar to service activities, especially non-commercial ones. For this reason, in pastoral activity it is possible to apply, to a limited extent, the instruments and strategies characteristic of service marketing. In the fi rst part of the article the marketing of services is characterised and the characteristics of services are indicated. In the second part the instruments of service marketing are presented and possibilities of their application in pastoral ministry are shown. In the third part service marketing strategies that can be used in the activity of the Church are presented. Particular attention is paid to partnership marketing, in some respects resembling pastoral ministry.

Opis:: A family which is founded on love, and the sacrament of marriage of the parents is the best environment for living, raising and rehabilitating a disabled child. His/her presence presents numerous difficulties that the parents have to overcome. Disability often negatively impacts the child’s acceptance of the parents. Due to the child’s disability the relationship between the parents may be disturbed; its impact is also perceptible in the relationship of the affected child with his/her siblings and other family members. Parents not always can look after their disabled child and deal with his/her rehabilitation and upbringing. Such difficulties constitute a challenge for various people and social institutions that help families with disabled children. Among them is also the Church whose pastoral care is meant to directly assist families and guide them in their seeking material, medical and psychological help.

Opis:: Spiritual development has been an important issue in the lives of many people since the dawn of humanity. In order to achieve their goal of greater spiritual maturity, they often asked help from a person they considered to be more spiritually advanced than themselves. With the beginnings of Christianity, this human propensity became even more pronounced and formalized, taking the shape of spiritual guidance in some form, which, over periods of both growth and decline, has recently come to resurgence in popularity. Today, there are also a significant number of people who seek professional help from therapists in resolving psychological issues and who, at the same time, would also like to use their personal spiritual resources to help them reach healing. Thus, a growing need for spiritually integrated psychological counseling has arisen. These developments require a better understanding of both the spiritual processes and the manner of helping people grow spiritually through the door of psychological counseling in some form. This article is a survey of the literature that presents a broad range of models to meet spiritual needs of modern people. Presenting such a variety of approaches is an attempt to widen the scope of what is offered as therapeutic assistance for spiritually sensitive individuals. In the conclusion, the author proposes new modalities for the inclusion of spiritual content in the counseling process.

Opis:: Charity activity in the parish it is a charity service based on the God’s commandment of love, appropriate to needs of people who suffer financial or spiritual poverty, aimed at bringing help in living decent quality of life. The motive for activity and the charity service comes out of the commandment of the love to a neighbor and desire for imitating the Christ (Luke 10,30−36). Service to poor and suffering people is an evidence of faithfulnesses to the Gospel and is a continuation of the rich charity tradition of the Roman Catholic Church. Therefore both the Code of Canon Law and the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches establish the rules which are to provide the eastern believers the proper care that is implemented in a few ways: by erected the hierarchy itself of eastern Churches on the Latin territories or by appointing the pastors who are to be responsible for the believers of the other rite, establishing the dioceses and the rite’s parishes and appointing the Episcopal vicar.

Opis:: This article aims at describing the reality where young Poles live and grow up, as well as their ways of coping with the challenges coming from both modern times and the changes in their own home country, Europe and the whole world. Generally speaking, we reflect upon the ways of leading the youth through adulthood. One opportunity is represented by the meetings organised by youth pastoral centres, managed by female and male congregations, as well as by Institutes of consecrated life. In this article, the results of the research carried out in 13 youth pastoral centres in the year 2007/2008 are presented. Just the variable related to the search for the meaning of life is dealt with in more detail, as soon as the very first existential questions arise, such as “Who am I?”, “Why am I living?”, “What is the sense of the things I do?”, “Where is my place in the world?” It is necessary to lead young people through this complex process of growing up, providing support, backing and presence. On the other hand, the following question arises: “to what extent can we intervene in the person’s development and in the shaping of their personality through contents and values, influencing their way of perceiving the world and themselves?” The analysis of this research can serve as a starting point in order to reflect on what is to be elaborated in detail, what is to be changed, what is to be highlighted, so that the meetings with the youth be more productive and the suggestions become a reference in the search for better solutions.

Opis:: The church passed on the theme of children who died without baptism, including the miscarried children, the path from hell through the abyss to the hope of salvation – and it is still an open question, topic to discussion. The hope of salvation of these children is a return to the evangelical words of Jesus: „Let the children come to me, do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God” (Mk 10,14). Inappropriate pastoral practice was replaced with the funeral rites provided for a child without baptism. It is necessary to intensify pastoral efforts aimed at forming the full awareness of parents and the whole society with regard to the death and burial situation of children who died without holy baptism, mainly miscarried children, which in result will lead to the proper pastoral praxeology.

Opis:: The doctrine of the three offices of Christ was initiated by the Protestant Reformation. Later it became the theological basis for the distinction of the three fundamental functions of the Church – martyria (the prophetic office), diakonia (the royal office) and leiturgia (the priestly office). In post-conciliar publications in Pastoral Theology, however, koinonia appeared among the “basic gestures” of the Church as an additional fourth function. This fact is the subject of dispute among theologians who do their research in the field of the Pastoral Theology. The addition of the koinonia to the triad: martyria, diakonia and leiturgia is criticized by some theologians as an excessive focus on the inner life of the Church, an overestimation of the importance of social and institutional structures, lack of consistency in the application of the principles of Christology and reduction of the salvific mission of the Church to one of her basic functions. However, pastoral reflection on the koinonia proves that neither Christology nor Ecclesiology is a hindrance to rating the koinonia among the basic functions of the Church. Adding the koinonia to the martyria, diakonia and leiturgia shows the concern of the Church for the lives of the faithful and their inner identity. The existence of the Christian communities, which are developing in the spirit of koinonia, is the basis for the reliable transmission of the Gospel, for a social solidarity free from any ideology and for a unanimous adoration of God who sends the Church to introduce all people into communion with Him and to participate in His divine life.

Opis:: In this article the author presents certain aspects of pastoral work with youth, describing young people’s reality and the dynamic of pastoral work in Latin America, as well as certain aspects of pastoral work with youth for an “outward-reaching” Church. Criteria are indicated for the pastoral accompaniment of Latin American young people today, from a model of Church which Pope Francis has denominated “outward-reaching” (or “going forth”). This model challenges us to rethink pastoral work with youth, situating it in the horizon of the path of pastoral action in the perspective of Aparecida, which allows us to “deeply rethink and relaunch [the Church’s] mission in current Latin American and global circumstances with fidelity and audacity” (DA 11). This requires that the Church show its readiness to appreciate, value and encourage pastoral initiatives and processes that are developing “outside” of explicit parochial spheres, so as to immerse itself in the missionary adventure towards and into spaces where young people are on the margins. Without doubt this means reconsidering the forms in which parochial and wider ecclesial life is organized. This challenge implies leaving behind pre-designed blueprints in order to meet young people there where they are, in the majority of cases outside the Church, adapting to their times and rhythms. This paper presents four nuclear problems posed by CELAM (Latin American Episcopal Council) for 2015–2019 (social injustice, the deterioration of creation, violence and migration), which question the Church in its evangelizing task and open a challenging panorama for an “outward reaching” pastoral work with youth. Missionary activity which takes these four nuclear problems seriously lets arise a “new subject who emerges in history and which we call disciple” (DA 243), an active member of the Church and a citizen capable of making a significant contribution to society. It becomes obvious that pastoral work with youth in the service of the spreading the Good News isn’t under discussion, but rather is launched with the aim that the light of Christ shine on the faces of the poor and the reality of our peoples. A new model opens up for an “outward reaching” pastoral work with youth, centred in the following of Christ and at the service of life, that is to say with greater impact on society.
En el artículo el autor presenta algunos aspectos de la Pastoral Juvenil (PJ), describiendo la realidad juvenil y la dinámica pastoral desde América Latina. Vienen también presentados algunos aspectos de la PJ para una “Iglesia en salida” y se indica los criterios para un acompañamiento pastoral a los jóvenes latinoamericanos hoy, desde el modelo de Iglesia que el papa Francisco ha denominado “en salida” y que nos desafía a repensar la PJ ubicándola en el horizonte de la reforma eclesial que este pontificado viene impulsando. Se trata de buscar e encontrar el camino de la pastoral en la perspectiva de Aparecida, que permita “repensar profundamente y relanzar con fidelidad y audacia la misión [de la Iglesia] en las nuevas circunstancias latinoamericanas y mundiales” (DA 11). Esto requiere de la Iglesia mostrar su disponibilidad a apreciar, valorar y alentar las iniciativas y procesos pastorales que están en desarrollo “fuera” del ámbito explícito de las parroquias, para insertarse en aventura misionera hacia y dentro de las periferias juveniles y sin duda esto supone un replanteamiento de las formas de organizar la vida parroquial y eclesial más amplia. Este reto exige salir de los propios esquemas pre-confeccionados, para encontrar a los jóvenes allí donde están, es decir en mayoría de los casos fuera de la Iglesia, adecuándose a sus tiempos y a sus ritmos. En el texto vienen presentados cuatro núcleos problemáticos que plantea el CELAM para el cuatrienio 2015–2019 (la injusticia social, el deterioro de la creación, la violencia y el flujo migratorio), que interpelan a la Iglesia para su tarea evangelizadora y abren un panorama desafiante para una Pastoral Juvenil “en salida”. Con la acción misionera que toma en serio estos cuatro núcleos se está formando, “un sujeto nuevo que surge en la historia y al que llamamos discípulo” (DA 243), miembro activo de la Iglesia y ciudadano capaz de incidir significativamente en la sociedad. Es evidente, entonces, que una PJ evangelizadora, no se discute, sino se la pone en camino, trabajando para lograr que la luz de Jesucristo ilumine los rostros de los pobres y la realidad de nuestros pueblos. Se abre pues una nuevo modelo para la PJ “en salida”, centrado en el seguimiento de Cristo y al servicio de la vida, es decir, con mayor incidencia en la sociedad.

Pastoral care is an organized saving activity of the Church. To improve its effectiveness it makes use of the achievements of non-theological sciences, one of which is marketing. Making use of the theory of partnership marketing is of particular importance. It is focused on the customer retention, therefore the rules of it can also be applied in the circumstances of secularization and individualization of the social life. These processes result in maintaining the distance to the Church and in leaving the Church. The article presents the essence of relationship marketing, as well as the relationships between the quality, communication, inner marketing and pastoral care.

Ponadto stawia postulat wypracowania i posługiwania się zrozumiałym językiem w pracy z młodzieżą oraz budowania środowiska chrześcijańskiego. Istotny jest także wysiłek na rzecz pogłębionej duchowości oraz odważne poszukiwania nowych dróg w duszpasterskiej pracy z młodymi ludźmi.
Pastoral ministry of youth is the salvific ministry of the Church towards youth students and non-students, studying at colleges and working young people. As other pastoral ministries it needs to adopt with changing social and cultural conditions. Trying to find the answer to the question how ministry to the youth looks like in modern times, it is worthy to pay attention to the suggestions of Pope Francis, which are present in the Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii gaudium. This document underlines the necessity of patient and merciful listening to young people and offer them one’s time. It also postulates to learn and use understandable language while working with the youth as well as to build a Christian environment. Likewise essential are efforts for deepening spirituality and the courageous quest for new forms in pastoral ministry of youth.

Opis:: In the XIX. and the first half of the XX. century Gołdap belonged to those towns where the Catholic diaspora was surrounded by a substantial majority of Evangelicals. Masses have been celebrated there since 1884. In 1892 Catholic efforts were started to create an independent pastoral institution. For that pur-pose, a plot of land was bought where a church was to be built. The construction plans were prepared by Jobsky, a master bricklayer from Gołdap. By December 1893, the church was constructed in a rough state. The investment was sup-ported by Catholics from Warmia and other dioceses, as well as by some or-ganizations, particularly the Boniface Association in Paderborn. On 16. August 1894, Eduard Lilienweiβ was appointed as the first priest of Gołdap and the church was consecrated on 9. September 1894. Its dedication, led by the Bishop of Warmia Andreas Thiel, was held on 25. June 1895. The church was dedi-cated to Saint Leo the Great and Saint Boniface. Catholic services were deliv-ered by the priest from Gołdap to other places, including Darkiejmy (currently Oziorsk) and Węgorzewo (since 1900). In 1890 738 Catholics were covered by the Gołdap pastoral service, and in 1938 there was 650 of them. The authorities of the diocese and church organizations (like the Boniface and Adalbert Asso-ciation in Frombork) participated in financing priests in Gołdap.

Opis:: The hermitage of Wigry Island has not got a full monograph study so far. This article brings new and fundamental arrangements regarding to the Camaldolese monastery in Wigry. It shows the region of present-day Suwalki, before the hermits came. It presents the state of research over the history of hermitages in Wigry. It depicts circumstances of the founding process made by the King John Casimir in 1667, building of the monastery complex in Wigry and the arranging process of the peninsula. It describes the process of everyday life of the hermits, their pastoral care of local population. Camaldolese are presented as pioneers of economic development in the region of Suwalki. It presents their 132 years activity in religious, cultural, social and economical aspect that was stopped by winding up the monastery in the Prussian annexation. This article enrich all knowledge up to now on Camaldolese monastery in Wigry, expands historiographic and pastoral output in the extent of research of history of Suwalki region.

Opis:: Der Aufsatz beschäftigt sich mit dem neuen Konzept von „Schulseelsorge“, das in den letzten Jahren in Deutschland im Hinblick auf die öffentlichen Schulen entwickelt wurde. Weil sich dadurch für die Lehrenden eine Rollenunsicherheit zwischen Unterricht und Beratung ergibt, muss genau bestimmt werden, was es bedeutet, in einem didaktischen Kontext als Seelsorger tätig zu sein. Diese Problematik wird mit Hilfe von Schleiermachers Unterscheidung zwischen dem „darstellenden“ und dem „wirksamen“ Handeln dahingehend umschrieben, dass sowohl Unterricht als auch Seelsorge Formen des auf das Bewusstsein wirkenden Handelns sind und dass damit beide trotz aller Unterschiede nahe zusammen gehören.
The article deals with the new concept of “Pastoral Care at School” which has been developed in Public schools in Germany in the last years. There are persons at school teaching as well as counseling. In order not to confuse being a teacher and being a pastor it should be clarified what means to work at school in a didactic context but also in the field of Pastoral Care. Discussing this with Schleiermacher’s differentiation of effective and representing acting (“darstellendes und wirksames Handeln”) the article argues, that teaching and counseling as well are forms of effective acting playing their specific role at school.

Opis:: Although contemporary medicine is able to fight many diseases yet it is helpless in the face of human suffering including cancer. Both the number of people getting infected and death rates are rising. Sadly, the cases of malicius tumour are diagnosed frequently. Medical diagnosis stating “cancer” is always received with a shock, disbelief or even rebellion. It is necessary to emphasize the care for the patients who cannot be cured. The sickness always challenges the state of personal and family equillibrium. This pain often leads to a truthful revelation of a meaning of human existence, which goes far beyond our earthly matters. Death is strictly interfered with life and is inevitably involved in the life of every human being. It demands respect and responsibility, especially from those who are in charge od medical services. It is the hospice movement that helps people overcome their fears and pain in the last stage of cancer.

Opis:: The organization of the pastoral care in the Polish Catholic Mission in Osnabrück is based on the parish pastoral care. The Mission implements ordinary and extraordinary mini-stry. Proclaiming God’s Word, implemented through homily and catechesis, is done in Polish. It is assigned for children, young people and adult Catholics. Ministering of the worship of God is done according to the customs of the Church in Poland. The ministry of all the sacraments which can be administered in the parish is a regular practice, including the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation which can be ministered individually. Devotions as well as blessings are administered just like in Poland. The faithful attach great importance to maintaining the Polish tradition, especially to the blessing of food served at Easter as well as to the tradition of sharing the wafer during Christmas Eve. What is more, the Mission actively supports charities for the benefit of individuals and communities of believers mainly in Poland and in the eastern Europe. Other activities include pastoral pilgrimage and social work with children and young people.

Human resource management is a process which aims at providing competent employees in certain positions to organizations. In the pastoral care it mainly means the help in discovering the spiritual vocation and the preparation and improvement of those who implement the pastoral ministry. The application of the principles developed by economics can contribute to making the better use of the potential of priests and to improving the efficiency of their actions. Human resource management in the pastoral care is connected with its planning. These are the processes which intermingle and determine one another. The care for the constant formation of presbyters and the more profound recognition of their objectives in the ministry should be correlated with the pastoral planning.

Opis:: The presented article takes up the issue of missionary accommodation on the example of the Church in Cuba. It is shown in both theoretical (theology, conciliar teaching, papal teaching with special reference to Pope Francis) and practical (consultation with missionaries and the author’s own experience) assumptions. The purpose of the article is to reflect pastorally on the involvement of missionaries in pastoral ministry and to identify the essential accommodative ways used by them. The final conclusions point to the need for missionaries to be creative and open-minded in their search for new ways to evangelize, and to overcome obstacles in the way of proclaiming the Good News.
