Opis:
Pipeline transport is used worldwide in many sectors of the economy. Its main advantages are continuity of transport, large transportation volumes, small energy consumption, safety, reliability and high environmental benefits. However, the safety problems of pipes attract much interest in science and industry. This paper deals with a cracked pipe with a static scheme of a simply supported beam. It rests along its entire length on a Pasternak elastic foundation. The flowing fluid is considered non-compressible and heavy. The Galerkin method is employed to approach the problem numerically. Conclusions are drawn based on the influence of the crack and the parameters of the Pasternak elastic foundation on the critical flow velocity of the fluid.

Basing on the consistent couple stress theory (CCST), we develop a unified size-dependent shear deformation theory to analyze the free vibration characteristics of simply supported, porous functionally graded (FG) piezoelectric microplates which resting on the Winkler-Pasternak foundation are subjected to electric voltages. Various CCST-based shear deformation theories can be reproduced by incorporating their corresponding shape functions, which characterize the through-thickness distributions of the shear deformations, into the unified size-dependent theory. The reproduced CCST-based plate theories include the classical plate theory (CPT), the first-order shear deformation plate theory (SDPT), Reddy’s refined SDPT, the sinusoidal SDPT, the exponential SDPT, and the hyperbolic SDPT. The unified size-dependent theory is subsequently used to determine the natural frequencies of simply supported, porous FG piezoelectric microplates and their corresponding vibration mode shapes. The effects of the material length scale parameter, the length-to-thickness ratio, the material-property gradient index, different values of the applied voltages, the porosity parameter, different porosity distribution patterns, the Winkler spring coefficient, and the shear modulus of the surrounding medium on the natural frequencies of the porous FG piezoelectric microplates are examined and appear to be significant.

В статье рассматривается соотношение лирической циклизации и жанровых стратегий лирики на материале неотрадиционалистского цикла Б. Пастернака Ветер (Четыре отрывка о Блоке) (1956). В цикле Пастернака наблюдается конфигурация различных жанровых инва- риантов. В первом стихотворении очевидна одическая стратегия, во втором радикальность А. Блока, проявляющаяся в образе ветра, своеобразно сочетается с идиллией. Третье стихот- ворение – тоже идиллия, но тут посредством включения реминисценции строк из стихотво- рения А. Блока (первое из цикла На поле Куликовом) просматриваются приметы грядущей катастрофы. В частности, строки из стихотворения Андрея Белого Родине («И ты, огневая стихия, / Безумствуй, сжигая меня, / Россия, Россия, Россия») позволяют разъяснить бал- ладную стратегию четвертого, завершающего цикл, стихотворения («Блок ждал этой бури и встряски. / Ее огневые штрихи»). Анализ этого произведения позволяет выявить логику, возникающую в сочетании жанров в рамках цикла, и осветить поэтологические особенно- сти неотрадиционалистского цикла.
The purpose of this article is to study the relations of the neotraditionalist cycle and genre strategies, as applied to Boris Pasternak’s cycle of poems “Wind (Four Fragments about Blok)” (1956). Despite an abundance of research dedicated to Pasternak’s attitude to Aleksandr Blok, still little attention is paid to the poetics of this lyric cycle. The analysis of genre strategies, the concept of which has been developed by Valery Tyupa, and the principles of lyric cycle, proposed by Igor Fomenko, were used as the methodology of this research. The paper is organised around the following points. Firstly, while the main title (“Wind”) and the meter (amphibrachic trimeter with the rhyme scheme AbAb) function as a centripetal force of the cycle, the configuration of various genre invariants becomes a centrifugal force. Secondly, however, the genre repertoire shows a special logic of the lyric cycle, which can be characterised as a movement from the vertical of the ode to the horizontal of the ballad. The first poem follows the strategy of the ode, but cannot be regarded as a traditional one. In the second poem, the lyrical subject uniquely combines the strategy of the idyll with Blok’s radicalness through the image of wind. The third poem also takes up the strategy of the idyll; here, however, signs of an impending catastrophe can be seen in the lines resonant with the first poem of Blok’s cycle “On the Kulikovo Field”. In the final poem, looking at the lines from Bely’s poem “To the Motherland” (“And you, firestorm, / rage and burn me, / Russia, Russia, Russia”) makes it possible to identify the strategy as that of the ballad (“Blok awaited this storm and its lashing. / With flame- -strikes its lashes would hit” [from Don Mager’s verse translation, “Wind”]). Thirdly, the analysis of Pasternak’s cycle from the perspective of genre strategies helps us to reconstruct a dialogue between poets, which is inherent in the neotraditionalist poetics. Finally, the artistic logic of combining genres in this work sheds new light on the poetological characteristics of the neotraditionalist cycle, which should be distinguished from the poetic homage.

In this study, static behaviors of functionally graded plates resting on Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation using the four-variable refined theory and the physical neutral surface concept is reported. The four-variable refined theory assumes that the transverse shear strain has a parabolic distribution across the plate’s thickness, thus, there is no need to use the shear correction factor. The material properties of the plate vary continuously and smoothly according to the thickness direction by a power-law distribution. The geometrical middle surface of the functionally graded plate selected in computations is very popular in the existing literature. By contrast, in this study, the physical neutral surface of the plate is used. Based on the four-variable refined plate theory and the principle of virtual work, the governing equations of the plate are derived. Next, an analytical solution for the functionally graded plate resting on the Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation is solved using the Navier’s procedure. In numerical investigations, a comparison of the static behaviors of the functionally graded plate between several models of displacement field using the physical neutral surface is given, and parametric studies are also presented.

Could even the most ideal love justify betrayal? The author invites the reader to examine Boris Pasternak’s Doctor Zhivago through the lens of wrongdoing and forgiveness. She ponders whether Lara Antipova and Yura Zhivago can justify their actions with the beauty and the force of their love. In the light of the moral consequences of their actions, she finds such justification to be impossible. In her view the novel, culminating in the main characters’ deaths, opens itself to a transcendental sphere in which wounded people are laid bare in their humanity before themselves, free of the baggage of guilt and harm, ready for conciliation.
Czy miłość może usprawiedliwić zdradę? Autorka tekstu zaprasza do spojrzenia na powieść Borysa Pasternaka Doktor Żywago przez pryzmat krzywdy i przebaczenia. Bohaterów powieści przedstawia jako ludzi ze skazą, naznaczonych winą i cierpieniem. Zastanawia się, czy Lara Antipowa i Jura Żywago mogą usprawiedliwić swoje czyny pięknem i siłą swojej miłości, bo wydaje się, że w tym kierunku podąża narracja Pasternaka. Wskazując na skutki moralne ich czynów, Autorka uważa, że nie sposób ich usprawiedliwić najbardziej racjonalną interpretacją. Jej zdaniem powieść, kończąc się śmiercią głównych bohaterów, otwiera się na sferę transcendentalną, w której poranieni ludzie, udręczeni cierpieniem, stoją wobec siebie nadzy w swoim człowieczeństwie, uwolnieni od bagażu winy i krzywdy.

В статье рассматриваются стихотворения И. Бродского, написанные 2-ст. анапестом с чередующейся женской и мужской клаузулой и с перекрестной рифмой (Ан2ЖмЖм). Ос- новное внимание уделяется стихотворениям Строфы (1968) и Строфы (1978). 2-ст. анапе- стом у Бродского написано всего четыре стихотворения: Стансы (1962), Под занавес (1965) и два текста с одинаковым заглавием Строфы (1968 и 1978). По нашему предположению, вы- бирая этот размер, поэт следует сложившимся в русской поэзии ритмическим моделям и се- мантическим характеристикам, закрепившимся за этим размером. 2-ст. анапест в русской поэзии – редкий размер, основной период его развития – ХХ век. Благодаря ограниченному набору текстов, написанных Ан2, возможно очертить круг потенциальных «метрических претекстов» стихотворений Бродского. Рассматриваются метрико-ритмические характери- стики 2-ст. анапестов И. Бродского, Б. Пастернака и отчасти, для сравнения, А. Ахматовой и И. Анненского. Анализ стихотворения Строфы показывает, как, сохраняя связь с предше- ственниками (в данном случае Б. Пастернаком) и собственными текстами, как более ранни- ми, так и написанными в то же время, Бродский по-новому использует метрико-ритмические воз- можности, заложенные в семи/шестисложном речевом отрезке, сочетая двусловные строки Ан2 с трехсловными (следовательно, трехударными) тоническими стихами.
The paper discusses the poems by Iosif Brodsky written in cross-rhymed anapestic dimeter with alternating feminine and masculine line endings. The focus is on two poems titled “Strofy” (1968 and 1978). Anapestic dimeter is not typical of Brodsky’s work, his oeuvre includes only four poems written in this meter: “Stansy” (Stanzas, 1962), “Pod zanaves” (At Curtain-Call, 1965) and the two texts with the same title “Strofy” (Strophes, 1968 and 1978). Therefore, an assumption is made that the poet chooses it not by chance and that when doing so he follows the rhythmic patterns and semantic characteristics already established in Russian poetry in connection with this meter. Anapestic dimeter is rarely encountered in Russian poetry, with the main period of its development being the twentieth century, and the set of texts written in this meter limited, which makes it possible to clearly outline the range of possible “metrical pre-texts” of Brodsky’s poems. The metrical and rhythmic characteristics of anapestic dimeter of Brodsky are analysed and compared with those of Boris Pasternak and, on a smaller scale, those of Anna Akhmatova and Innokenty Annensky. The analysis of the poem “Strofy” (1978) shows how Brodsky makes a new use of the metrical-rhythmic potential contained in a seven- or six-syllable speech segment by combining two-word lines of anapestic dimeter with three-word (and therefore three-beat) tonic verses – at the same time retaining the connection both with his predecessors (here, Pasternak) and with his own texts, written earlier or over the same period.

Nonlinear analysis of isotropic circular plate resting on viscoelastic foundation is investigated. The dynamic analogue of Von Kármán equations is considered in establishing the governing equation also, consideration is given to symmetric and axisymmetric mode. Thereafter, the coupled nonlinear partial differential equations are transformed to Duffing equation using Galerkin method and analysed using Optimal Homotopy Asymptotic Method (OHAM). Subsequently, the analytical solutions are used to investigate the influence of various parameters on the dynamic response of the plate. It is observed that, nonlinear frequency ratio increases with increase linear Winkler, Pasternak foundation and tensile force. Nevertheless, it is established that the nonlinear frequency ratio of the plate decreases as nonlinear Winkler foundation and compressive force increase. Also, the results revealed that both clamped and simply supported edge condition results in softening nonlinearity behaviour. Conversely, axisymmetric case of vibration gives lower nonlinear frequency ratio compared to asymmetric case. Furthermore, maximum deflection occurs when excitation force is zero, likewise the presence of viscoelastic foundation results in attenuation of deflection for the circular plate. It is expected that findings from the study will add values to the existing knowledge of classical vibration.

The article on the example of poems by Boris Pasternak You in the wind, a branch sampling (1919) and Joseph Brodsky Illustration (L. Cranach’s “Venus with Apple”) (1964) discusses the changing of the use of myth in the poetry of the twentieth century. Both poets turned to the myth of Adonis, but in the Pasternak’s poem myth presented by the image of an anemone, and in Brodsky’s by the images of a boar and Venus. It is shown that the poems of Pasternak and Brodsky demonstrate the process of the reduction of myth in the literature of the twentieth century and its gradual transformation into “ready” word of the culture. Modernism as any transitional epoch carries out the compression of the preceding culture, translating her quest and achievements in the area of “ready words”, and therefore refers to the archetypal images that allow to create the text with unlimited semantic potential. Both Pasternak and Brodsky use the iconic images of myth to visualize the meaning, which thus leaves in the subtext and is expressed implicitly. Modernist poetry is aimed on the individual-personal interpretation of the mythological images and on the creation of the artist’s own spiritual space. At the same time, the remythologization of the image and, as a consequence, the sacralization of the author’s inner space takes the place.

This paper analyzes problems involved in the Polish translation of proper names contained in Boris Pasternak’s novel Doctor Zhivago. Empirical material was collected from two Polish translations published in book form: by Jerzy Stempowski (Paris: Instytut Literacki 1959) and by Ewa Rojewska-Olejarczuk (Warsaw: PIW 1990). The study aimed to analyze translatorial equivalents taking into account the following criteria: consistency with the named object, informativeness of the name, and retaining the cultural ambience. The following research methods were applied: descriptive, com-parative analysis as well as functional and stylistic analysis. The comparative analysis focused on the adequacy of the applied translation methods.

The article analyzes Boris Pasternak’s Poeziya (Poetry) from the cycle Neskuchny Sad. The cycle is the kind of a link between two poetic books of Boris Pasternak: Sestra moya – zhizn’ (My sister – Life) and Temy i variatsii (Themes and variations). We dwell in detail on the comparison of this text with the poem Opredeleniye poezii (Definition of poetry) from the book Sestra moya – zhizn’. We are mainly interested in the asemantic level of texts – their sound and rhythmic organization. The analyzed structure allows us to trace the dynamics of the images and the changes that took place in the poetic style of Boris Pasternak in the 1920s.

The authors developed a simple and efficient method, called the Coupled Displacement method, to study the linear free vibration behavior of the moderately thick rectangular plates in which a single-term trigonometric/algebraic admissible displacement, such as total rotations, are assumed for one of the variables (in both X,Y directions), and the other displacement field, such as transverse displacement, is derived by making use of the coupling equations. The coupled displacement method makes the energy formulation to contain half the number of unknown independent coefficients in the case of a moderately thick plate, contrary to the conventional Rayleigh-Ritz method. The smaller number of undetermined coefficients significantly simplifies the vibration problem. The closed form expression in the form of fundamental frequency parameter is derived for all edges of simply supported moderately thick rectangular plate resting on Pasternak foundation. The results obtained by the present coupled displacement method are compared with existing open literature values wherever possible for various plate boundary conditions such as all edges simply supported, clamped and two opposite edges simply supported and clamped and the agreement found is good.

This paper is concerned with the mechanical response of a single-walled carbon nanotube. Euler-Bernoulli’s beam theory and Hamilton’s principle are employed to derive the set of governing differential equations. An efficient variational method is used to determine the solution of the problem and Legendre’s polynomials are used to define basis functions. Significance of using these polynomials is their orthonormal property as these shape functions convert mass and stiffness matrices either to zero or one. The impact of various parameters such as length, temperature and elastic medium on the buckling load is observed and the results are furnished in a uniform manner. The degree of accuracy of the obtained results is verified with the available literature, hence illustrates the validity of the applied method. Current findings show the usage of nanostructures in vast range of engineering applications. It is worth mentioning that completely new results are obtained that are in validation with the existing results reported in literature.

Opis:
The subject of this article’s research is the problem of translation of poetic texts on the basis of a poem Метель by Boris Pasternak. The work aims to analyse certain mechanisms and processes involved in the translation of poetic texts which are not limited to the rhythmical layer but also include lexical and phonological dimension. The article examines strategies of translation created by Adam Pomorski, a critic, essayist and recognised translator of Russian, German and English belles-letters, and a chairman of the Polish PEN Club. Pomorski reckons that translation is a “reconstruction of the prototype” within the norms and conventions, while all rest is a result of individual style. While cre- ating literature, some artists recall the sounds that they associate with the literary pictures. This way, the language goes beyond the sematic layer of a work, while trying to imitate the sounds through onomatopoeic words, acoustic expressions and also other ways that influence the rhythmisation of a poem and bring out the connotation to the musical side of things. We will try to investigate how the poetic word of a prototype changed upon a translation on the basis of a Метель poem Pasternak.

This article recalls the circumstances of the first edition of the novel by Boris Pasternak, Doctor Zhivago, in Polish translation, which appeared in 1959 in volume XLIV of the Biblioteka ‟Kultury” series, published by the Paris Literary Institute. Reconstruction of the history of this publishing initiative in the context of the political situation is possible thanks to historical sources preserved in the Paris and Warsaw archives, publications in periodicals, memoirs and epistolary culture. The circumstances in which the typescript was imported to Poland and in which the Literary Institute obtained a license for a Polish translation, the choice of translator, and Jerzy Giedroyc and Gustaw Herling-Grudziński’s correspondence are discussed. An important source of information is the lively correspondence between Maria Dąbrowska and Jerzy Stempowski, the son of a publicist and social activist, and Mason Stanisław Stempowski, a longtime life partner of the writer. The fragments of epistolary culture discussed here allow a better understanding of these outstanding individuals of the twentieth century. The content of the correspondence analyzed also allows us to reconstruct many interesting facts from the field of translating Russian literature into Polish, as well as the complex situation of Polish-Russian relations in the post-war period.

Opis:
Complex structures used in various engineering applications are made up of simple structural members like beams, plates and shells. The fundamental frequency is absolutely essential in determining the response of these structural elements subjected to the dynamic loads. However, for short beams, one has to consider the effect of shear deformation and rotary inertia in order to evaluate their fundamental linear frequencies. In this paper, the authors developed a Coupled Displacement Field method where the number of undetermined coefficients 2n existing in the classical Rayleigh-Ritz method are reduced to n, which significantly simplifies the procedure to obtain the analytical solution. This is accomplished by using a coupling equation derived from the static equilibrium of the shear flexible structural element. In this paper, the free vibration behaviour in terms of slenderness ratio and foundation parameters have been derived for the most practically used shear flexible uniform Timoshenko Hinged-Hinged, Clamped-Clamped beams resting on Pasternak foundation. The findings obtained by the present Coupled Displacement Field Method are compared with the existing literature wherever possible and the agreement is good.
