Badaniami objęto korzenie pięciu odmian pasternaku zwyczajnego Pastinaca sativa L. Wyznaczono masę korzeni przypadającą na jedną roślinę oraz ich suchą masę, a także zawartość substancji biologicznie czynnych tj. cukrów, kwasu L-askorbinowego. Ponadto wykonano analizę zespołów furanokumarynowych występujących w badanych surowcach. W zespole furanokumarynowym stwierdzono obecność: izopimpineliny, ksantotoksyny, bergaptenu oraz imperatoryny. Oceniano również zawartość i skład zespołu furanokumarynowego występujących w różnych organach pasternaku zwyczajnego odmiany Półdługi Biały. Stwierdzono, że bergapten i ksantotoksyna stanowią 80% badanych zespołów. Największą zawartość zespołów furanokumarynowych ~ 1,7% wykazują owoce tej odmiany, które mogą być dobrym surowcem do otrzymywania tych związków. Furanokumaryny uzyskane z tych surowców mogą mieć zastosowanie w przemyśle farmaceutycznym oraz jako naturalne pestycydy.
The roots of five parsnip (Pastinaca sativa L.) cultivars were examined for root weight per one plant, contents of dry matter and biologically active compounds such as the total sugars and ascorbic acids. Morever, in the complexes of furanocoumarins occuring in parsnip the isopimpinellin, xanthotoxin, bergapten and imperatorin were identified. The content and composition of furanocouma- rin complex in different plant parts of parsnip White cv. were also determined. It was found that the total amounts of bergapten and xanthotoxin constituted over 80% components of investigated complexes. The furanocoumarins of parsnip may be used in pharmaceutic industry as well as be applied as the natural pesticides.

Opis:
Boris Pasternak debuted at the onset of the 20th century, when Russian art witnessed radical transformations consisting in a departure from tradition and a quest for new content and forms of artistic expression. His family, however, disapproved of modernist aesthetics. The young poet thus found himself at an aesthetic crossroads and evaded making a decisive choice. On the one hand, he referred to nineteenth-century poetry, and on the other hand, he took an active part in the current literary life and maintained contacts with the Symbolists. He joined the moderate Futurist group ‘Tsentrifuga,’ which, however, did not exert a fundamental impact upon his oeuvre. Pasternak voiced opinions regarding various aesthetic problems and in the 1920s started to free himself from the influence of the then dominating literary milieus. He severed contacts with Futurism (including Mayakovsky), chose a path of his own, and rewrote a number of his early poems. At the beginning of the 1930s he announced his ‘second birth’. This involved evoking the traditions of nineteenth-century art and in particular, realism. Pasternak emphasized the priority of content over form and the merit of simplicity of poetic statements, the principle to which he remained loyal to the very end of his creative path.

Based on the Donnell theory of shells combined with the von-Karman type of geometrical nonlinearity, three coupled equilibrium equations for a through-the-thickness functionally graded cylindrical shell embedded in a two parameter Pasternak elastic foundation are ob- tained. Equivalent properties of the shell are obtained based on the Voigt rule of mixture in terms of a power law volume fraction for the constituents. Properties of the constituents are considered to be temperature dependent. The temperature profile through the shell thick- ness is obtained by means of the central finite difference method. Linear prebuckling analysis is performed to obtain the prebuckling forces of the cylindrical shell. Stability equations are derived based on the well-known adjacent equilibrium criterion. Three coupled partial dif- ferential stability equations are solved with the aid of a hybrid Fourier-GDQ method. After validating the numerical results, some parametric studies are conducted to investigate the influence of various parameters, especially foundation interaction. It is shown that elastic foundation enhances the critical buckling temperature difference of the shell and violates the buckled pattern.

This paper analyzes problems involved in the Polish translation of proper names contained in Boris Pasternak’s novel Doctor Zhivago. Empirical material was collected from two Polish translations published in book form: by Jerzy Stempowski (Paris: Instytut Literacki 1959) and by Ewa Rojewska-Olejarczuk (Warsaw: PIW 1990). The study aimed to analyze translatorial equivalents taking into account the following criteria: consistency with the named object, informativeness of the name, and retaining the cultural ambience. The following research methods were applied: descriptive, com-parative analysis as well as functional and stylistic analysis. The comparative analysis focused on the adequacy of the applied translation methods.

Określono prędkość krytyczną unoszenia, podstawowe wymiary (długość, szerokość i grubość) i masę nasion pasternaku zwyczajnego. Na podstawie dokonanych pomiarów obliczono geometryczną średnicę zastępczą, wskaźnik proporcji, wskaźnik sferyczności i masę jednostkową. Następnie przeprowadzono próbę kiełkowania nasion, sprawdzając jej efekty co 12 godzin, a każdemu z nasion przypisano odpowiednią wartość wskaźnika czasu kiełkowania. Porównano ze sobą powyższe cechy i wskaźniki wykorzystując test t dla prób niezależnych i analizę korelacji. Stwierdzono, że skiełkowane i niekiełkujące nasiona różnią się statystycznie istotnie jedynie pod względem swojej grubości. Pewną poprawę zdolności kiełkowania materiału nasiennego można uzyskać przez oddzielanie od niego nasion najlżejszych. W badanym surowcu nasiennym uzyskanie 65% zdolności kiełkowania wiązało się ze stratami nasion prawidłowo wytwarzających kiełki na poziomie ok. 27%.
Critical velocity of transportation, basic dimensions (length, width and thickness) as well as the mass of parsnip seeds was determined. Based on the measurements which were carried out, a geometrical hydraulic diameter, proportion index, spherical index and unit mass were calculated. A test of seeds germination was carried out by checking out the effects every 12 hours and then appropriate value of the germination time index was assumed to each seed. The above features and indexes were compared with the use of t test for independent tests and the correlation analysis. It was stated that germinated and non-germinated seeds differ statistically significantly only on account of their thickness. Some improvement of the germination ability of the seed material may be obtained by separating lighter seeds therefrom. In the tested seed material, obtaining 65% of germination ability was related to losses of seeds, which correctly produce sprouts at the level of approx 27%.

In  Doctor  Zhivago,  Pasternak  brings  scientific  and  political  discourses  into  dialogue  with magical ones. In an emblematic episode, two soldiers from opposing sides each wear a protective amulet containing the „miraculous” text of  the 90th Psalm. One dies; one survivesWhile this discrepancy is easily traced to scientific and socioeconomic causes, the episode isdesigned to foreground the least rational explanation: that done right, magic actually worksEmbodying Pasternak’s interest in the interrelationships among science, politics, poetry, andmagic, the textual amulet is especially significant because it represents a magical power that is reserved for  words. This article finds that Pasternak’s novel contains numerous examples of  such  efficacious  „magical”  texts –  from  the  Gospels  to  peasant  songs,  from  political slogans to Zhivago’s poems – and argues that reading  Doctor Zhivago by the light of these„magic words” yields insights into the aesthetics and design of the novel.

In this study, static behaviors of functionally graded plates resting on Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation using the four-variable refined theory and the physical neutral surface concept is reported. The four-variable refined theory assumes that the transverse shear strain has a parabolic distribution across the plate’s thickness, thus, there is no need to use the shear correction factor. The material properties of the plate vary continuously and smoothly according to the thickness direction by a power-law distribution. The geometrical middle surface of the functionally graded plate selected in computations is very popular in the existing literature. By contrast, in this study, the physical neutral surface of the plate is used. Based on the four-variable refined plate theory and the principle of virtual work, the governing equations of the plate are derived. Next, an analytical solution for the functionally graded plate resting on the Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation is solved using the Navier’s procedure. In numerical investigations, a comparison of the static behaviors of the functionally graded plate between several models of displacement field using the physical neutral surface is given, and parametric studies are also presented.

Opis:
Nonlinear analysis of isotropic circular plate resting on viscoelastic foundation is investigated. The dynamic analogue of Von Kármán equations is considered in establishing the governing equation also, consideration is given to symmetric and axisymmetric mode. Thereafter, the coupled nonlinear partial differential equations are transformed to Duffing equation using Galerkin method and analysed using Optimal Homotopy Asymptotic Method (OHAM). Subsequently, the analytical solutions are used to investigate the influence of various parameters on the dynamic response of the plate. It is observed that, nonlinear frequency ratio increases with increase linear Winkler, Pasternak foundation and tensile force. Nevertheless, it is established that the nonlinear frequency ratio of the plate decreases as nonlinear Winkler foundation and compressive force increase. Also, the results revealed that both clamped and simply supported edge condition results in softening nonlinearity behaviour. Conversely, axisymmetric case of vibration gives lower nonlinear frequency ratio compared to asymmetric case. Furthermore, maximum deflection occurs when excitation force is zero, likewise the presence of viscoelastic foundation results in attenuation of deflection for the circular plate. It is expected that findings from the study will add values to the existing knowledge of classical vibration.

The article researches the issue of the relevance of poetry in the USSR, using as an example the year 1926, when several literary periodicals simultaneously decided to investigate the attitude of their readers and of poets towards this issue. The analysis of the surveys conducted among readers and in libraries confirms the statement made by Boris Pasternak that lyric poetry was then undergoing a crisis, caused by the loss of its past audience and by not yet having any new audience who would need the subjectivity of an author to be presented to tchem in a lyrical form.
В статье рассматривается проблема востребованности поэзии в СССР на примере всего одного – 1926 года, когда одновременно несколько литературных изданий решило исследовать отношение к ней читателей и самих поэтов. Анализ проведенных опросов читателей и библиотек показывает правоту Бориса Пастернака, который утверждал, что в настоящее время лирическая поэзия переживает кризис, связанный с утратой прежнего ее адресата и несформированности нового реципиента, который бы нуждался в лирических формах презентации субъектности ее автора.

Basing on the consistent couple stress theory (CCST), we develop a unified size-dependent shear deformation theory to analyze the free vibration characteristics of simply supported, porous functionally graded (FG) piezoelectric microplates which resting on the Winkler-Pasternak foundation are subjected to electric voltages. Various CCST-based shear deformation theories can be reproduced by incorporating their corresponding shape functions, which characterize the through-thickness distributions of the shear deformations, into the unified size-dependent theory. The reproduced CCST-based plate theories include the classical plate theory (CPT), the first-order shear deformation plate theory (SDPT), Reddy’s refined SDPT, the sinusoidal SDPT, the exponential SDPT, and the hyperbolic SDPT. The unified size-dependent theory is subsequently used to determine the natural frequencies of simply supported, porous FG piezoelectric microplates and their corresponding vibration mode shapes. The effects of the material length scale parameter, the length-to-thickness ratio, the material-property gradient index, different values of the applied voltages, the porosity parameter, different porosity distribution patterns, the Winkler spring coefficient, and the shear modulus of the surrounding medium on the natural frequencies of the porous FG piezoelectric microplates are examined and appear to be significant.

The subject of this article’s research is the problem of translation of poetic texts on the basis of a poem Метель by Boris Pasternak. The work aims to analyse certain mechanisms and processes involved in the translation of poetic texts which are not limited to the rhythmical layer but also include lexical and phonological dimension. The article examines strategies of translation created by Adam Pomorski, a critic, essayist and recognised translator of Russian, German and English belles-letters, and a chairman of the Polish PEN Club. Pomorski reckons that translation is a “reconstruction of the prototype” within the norms and conventions, while all rest is a result of individual style. While cre- ating literature, some artists recall the sounds that they associate with the literary pictures. This way, the language goes beyond the sematic layer of a work, while trying to imitate the sounds through onomatopoeic words, acoustic expressions and also other ways that influence the rhythmisation of a poem and bring out the connotation to the musical side of things. We will try to investigate how the poetic word of a prototype changed upon a translation on the basis of a Метель poem Pasternak.
