The article presents the investigation results of selected effects of the side wind on the passenger ferry in sea condition. The computational fluid dynamic (CFD) analysis has been carried out in order to calculate the forces and moments acting on the ship superstructure during rolling caused by waves. The performed analysis shows the impact of rolling amplitudes and periods on results. The use of CFD method allows calculating the vertical centre of pressure with various rolling parameters. Numerical analysis has been performed for real size ship model in transient condition. The main object of the research is to define the influence of the wind dumping effect on wave rolling motions. Additional wind dumping effect (besides of other effects) is intending to use in response amplitude operator (RAO) calculations (next part of researches). It is possible that use of additional wind dumping effect will reduce the rolling amplitudes, and consequently reduce ship accelerations due to rolling motions. Reduction of accelerations (especially horizontal), should decrease the requirements due to number of cargo lashes/belts equipment and minimize the lashing time. From other side it should shorten required harbour time and reduce the ship speed, what is the best way to save the fuel.

Nowoczesne i ekologiczne układy napędowe zyskują coraz większą popularność. Ze względu na wzrost świadomości społeczeństwa oraz restrykcyjne przepisy odnośnie ochrony środowiska w najbliższych latach konwencjonalne układy napędowe mogą nie zostać dopuszczone do dalszej eksploatacji. Dobór alternatywnego rozwiązania jest zależny od wielu czynników, jak na przykład od rodzaju akwenu, po którym porusza się jednostka pływająca, jej przeznaczenia, autonomiczności czy stylu pływania. Dla małego promu pasażerskiego, poruszającego się w wąskim kanale wodnym, można wybrać jedno z nowoczesnych rozwiązań, jakim jest zastosowanie napędu hybrydowego szeregowego. Poprzez badania oporowe przeprowadzone na basenie modelowym, możliwe jest również dobranie korzystnej strategii pływania, pozwalającej na ograniczenie zużycia energii, a tym samym poniesionych kosztów.
Modern and eco-friendly propulsion systems are gaining more and more popularity. Due to the increase of public awareness and stringent environmental regulations, classic, conventional propulsion systems may not be allowed to use. Choosing another solution depends on many different factors, such as kind and size of water area, ship’s autonomy/destination or movement strategy. For a small inland ferry, it’s possible to choose one of the modern solutions, which is serial hybrid propulsion. Also through a research based on a ship’s resistance (hydromechanics), it is possible to select profitable movement strategy that causes decrease in costs.

Almost every voyage culminates in a manoeuvre to berth the ship safely along a quay or wharf. During this phase a ship is affected by a number of factors, one of them being wind. This paper seeks to understand how wind affect a ship in regards of power consumption during berthing. A field study was conducted on a car passenger ferry, where every approach in one harbour was logged and analysed over a period of four months. The goal was to provide greater knowledge about energy usage and the study presents several interesting findings. It is estimated that power consumption is stable when the median wind speed is less than 4 m/s. Stronger winds have a significant effect on power consumption, e.g 17 m/s gives an 106,31% increase from calm conditions. Furthermore there is not discovered any correlation between consumption and wind direction in this study.

The main scientific aim of this research was to elaborate design guidelines which could make it possible to improve sea-keeping qualities of passenger-car ferries. The searchedfor design guidelines were prepared in the form of regression functions as well as artificial neural networks on the basis of the results obtained from calculations with the use of numerical methods based on the theory of planar flow around a body. The guidelines make it possible to predict ship roll, sea-sickness index, lateral and vertical accelerations on the basis of quantities available in the preliminary stage of ship design.

W artykule przedstawiono współczesne tendencje występujące na rynku promowych przewozów pasażerskich oraz pasażersko- towarowych. Na przestrzeni ostatnich 10 lat segment żeglugi promowej nieustannie się rozwijał, jednak sytuacja ta uległa zmianie podczas trwania pandemii koronawirusa. W związku z wprowadzeniem przez Międzynarodową Organizację Morską (IMO – International Maritime Organization) bardziej restrykcyjnych regulacji prawnych dotyczących ograniczenia poziomu zanieczyszczeń ze statków oraz wdrażaniem koncepcji zrównoważonego rozwoju na rynek żeglugi promowej dostarczanych jest coraz więcej innowacyjnych i proekologicznych jednostek pasażersko-towarowych, tzw. ro-pax i szybkich, określanych jako high-speed. Region Morza Bałtyckiego i Morza Północnego został uznany jako Obszar Kontroli Emisji Tlenków Siarki (SECA – Sulphur Emission Control Area) i Azotu (NECA – NO Emission Control Area). Dopuszczalne limity emisji SOx i NOx były coraz bardziej ograniczane, przez co jednostki eksploatowane w tym Regionie należało wyposażyć w systemy oczyszczania spalin lub alternatywne źródła zasilania. W tym Regionie żegluga promowa jest bardzo dobrze rozwinięta ze względu na ukształtowanie geograficzne terenu i występowanie wielu wysp. Celem artykułu jest analiza i identyfikacja tendencji na rynku promowych przewozów pasażerskich oraz pasażersko-towarowych.
This article presents contemporary trends in the passenger and passenger-freight ferry transport market. The ferry segment has grown steadily over the past 10 years, but this has changed during the coronavirus pandemic. In connection with the introduction by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) of more restrictive legal regulations on reducing the level of pollution from ships and the implementation of the concept of sustainable development, more and more innovative and environmentally friendly passenger and cargo units are delivered to the ferry market, like so-called ropax and fast, referred to as high-speed. The Baltic Sea and North Sea Region has been recognized as a Sulfur Emission Control Area (SECA) and Nitrogen (NECA – NO Emission Control Area). The permissible SOx and NOx emission limits were increasingly restricted, so the units operated in this Region had to be equipped with exhaust gas cleaning systems or alternative power sources. In this Region, ferry services are very well developed due to the geographical conditions and location of many islands. The aim of the article is to analyze and identify trends in the passenger and passengerfreight ferry transport market.

Presented are regulations concerning the operation of passenger ships (with particular emphasis on Polish ferries) designed to increase maritime safety the SOLAS Convention, established in 1974 and codified in 2002, codifies these regulations, and the International Maritime Organization mandates additional regulations, created in response to a rapidly increasing number of maritime disasters. The analyses described herein were based on restrictions established for the “Jan Śniadecki” and “Mikołaj Kopernik” ferries. Safety of ro-ro units, which also typically have a significant number of people on board, was also analyzed. Also included in the study were ship operational- limitation characteristics with respect to structure, unsinkability, and stability of machinery and electrical equipment, fire protection, operational requirements, and rescue measures and devices, along with their purpuroses. Safety management consists of taking appropriate actions to prevent or minimize the effects of an accident or a disaster and is assessed on the basis of calculations and experience gleaned from analogous cases. Safety management can proceed if a problem has been thoroughly assessed. The potential risk of negative consequences with respect to the safety of the transport process as a whole must be considered, and the safety of the whole must not be risked for that of a particular part of it. A safety management decision can be made when its necessity is not in doubt. A problem is assumed to have only one solution. The effectiveness of the previously used method should be carefully assessed before proceeding to the next method. Security management is not easy and requires much professional knowledge and experience.

Marine passenger ports are integrated into the transport systems of cities and regions today. If there are sufficient developed mathematical forecasting models in the class of polynomial models, probability series, and a number of others, then the models describing the influence of the external environment on ferry market are not sufficient. The developed scheme of interaction between the participants of the cruise market and the mathematical model of the port as a technical system is presented in this research. The article substantiates new purposes to use the logistic function to assess the external environment. A mathematical model and the derivation of the new basic equation of the logistic function for ferry market are given. Analytical data were collected on the ports and terminals of the Adriatic Sea and the Baltic Sea, and data were selected of ship calls at the passenger port St. Petersburg “Marine Facade” (2019-2020). The article proposes the consideration of new various proportionality factors that will determine the demand for cruise transportation modeling in the short-term forecasting interval. A complete mathematical model is given taking into account the real schedule of the sea passenger port. The logistic function proposed in the article allows us to solve the forecasting problem in a new way in relation to the selection and evaluation of a cruise product. Moreover, it allows us to solve a group of economic problems related to promotion problem for particular cruise product on the market, allows us to evaluate the activity of passengers when they are choosing a cruise product, and allows us to make adjustments to the planned port working schedules and to make timely adjustments. The main advantage of the proposed model is an analytical assessment of the effect of the external environment, both on passenger ports and on ferry and cruise companies.

Marine passenger ports and terminals are key transport facilities that influence the development and positioning of a region, city or country. The port infrastructure should provide the world requirements in service of cruise and ferry ships, and ensure the efficiency and convenience in service of passengers and associated cargo flow. This circumstance determines the necessity of infrastructure modernization, and hardware and software renewal. At the same time, the existing equipment in ports and terminals is gradually becoming outdated, hence the necessity of modernization on the basis of development of a decision-making system. This decision-making system should no longer be based on analytical models, but on new digital transport models of sea passenger ports and terminals. These digital models must take into account both passenger handling processes and external processes for handling cruise and ferry ships. The model should have high computational power and take into account the influence of the external environment. These models should answer development forecasting questions and provide an accurate decision-making system for the validity of infrastructure changes. The Passenger Port of Saint Petersburg "Marine Façade” (St. Petersburg) was chosen as the subject of research. To construct a numerical model, port operation intensity, passenger, cruise and ferry vessel handling processes were investigated; port and terminal development strategies and the mutual influence of the "city-port" systems on each other were studied. As a result of the analysis, a new digital transport model of the sea passenger port was built, which has a high level of detail and accuracy of process implementation, high productivity and efficiency of analysis of various infrastructure changes in the port, allowing the inclusion of dynamic changes from the external environment. The numerical model has been fully implemented for this port, and new conclusions have been derived from it. The use of these new models allows justification of infrastructure upgrades and to study the position of the port in the region in relation to competitors' ports. The developed tool allows solving the problem of research on port processes at any level of planning and enables integration into the information systems already existing in ports and terminals.
