Opis:
The religious factor occupies the remarkable place in the political process of state. The end of the XX-the beginning of the XXI century has been affected by the attraction to the strengthening of trends of the mutual usage by these worlds all possible resources for the achievement of the personal strategic goals. The role of religious organizations in the parliamentary and presidential election campaigns of the recent years has been examined. The official positions of the religious organizations in which the tendency to the separation of the spiritual and political life is clearly traced. It has been emphasized the active involvement of the religious organizations in the political life of the regional and district levels, local communities, which quite often openly support certain candidates, or parties. It is found out, on the example of the Volyn region, that quite not uncommon are the cases of the direct participation of the religious organizations’ representatives in the struggle for the deputy mandates in the bodies of government of the different levels. These tendencies are mostly expressed on the districts’ levels. For the first time the representatives of the priesthood won the deputy mandates in the district councils of Volyn region in 1994 (local councils of the second convocation). Characteristically, that starting from the given convocation the clergy had constant representation in the district councils despite the changes of electoral system to the local councils, though the cases of the membership in the political parties had been extremely rare. The investigation showed, that the summarizing of the results of election campaigns to the local councils, in this section, is being possible only at the regional level, as in the councils of some areas there were not clergy representatives in any of convocation.

Opis:
The aim of the article was to investigate whether the order of the candidates on the party lists has any significance and influence on the result of the election. The analysis is based upon the results of voting on regional lists four major political parties from the last four elections to the Parliament. The research found that the vast majority of voters vote for the leaders of the lists, regardless of the political options supported. If the candidate is placed lower on the list, he will get less votes from the Polish electorate. Therefore it was demonstrat-ed that the position of the candidate clearly determines his success in the elections. It was also observed that the chance of getting the mandate is dependent not only on the place occupied by the candidate, but also the percentage of support for the political party that he represents. It is important to note that the leaders of the party don’t get always the most votes from their list and not every ‘number one’ becomes a member of parliament.

Opis:
The goal of this article is to establish (a) the relationship between electoral lists, party membership, and changes in party affiliation in the context of (b) electoral-list mobility. Our basic premise is that the illegible institutional rules for placing candidates on electoral lists favors mobility between lists. We use data from the EAST PaC Database (2005–2015), which allows us to estimate to what extent the composition of electoral lists differs in terms of the party affiliation of candidates and to track the mobility of parliamentary candidates between electoral lists in consecutive elections. Our basic findings confirm that candidates who changed party affiliation and those who were independent were most likely to change electoral lists. This is a quite surprising finding because according to studies (Shabad and Słomczyński 2002, 2004) such candidates, whose election potential is uncertain, should be unwelcome on new electoral lists.

Opis:
The article presents the determinants of creating candidate lists in European Parliament elections in Poland. Its subject context is the evaluation of importance of selected factors with reference to the effect obtained in the election. The main study hypothesis assumes different patterns of creating candidate lists in EP elections in comparison to parliamentary elections, involving the combined occurrence of several determinants. The first of them is the tendency to fill the highest positions in candidate lists with popular people well-known in the media, who have an advantage over anonymous ones. The second factor is territorial bonds connecting candidates with the electoral district where they stand for election. Another determinant taken into consideration is the territorial form of the candidate list. The last important element of analysis is the concentration of support, determined by the position on the candidate list.

Opis:
The Open Letter to the Party by Jacek Kuroń and Karol Modzelewski has appeared in history textbooks only recently and has been presented as the first open protest of Polish intellectuals against the abuse of the Communist system. Such an interpretation of the document creates a false impression that Communism was indeed a good solution and all its evil was the consequence of the fact that its rules were not adhered to. Kuroń and Modzelewski’s manifesto had been known for many years before it finally gained historiographic, historiosophical and political significance. This was largely due to the influence of its leftist interpretation, which ignores its Trotskyist and revisionist character in relation to the communist ideology. Unfortunately, since students are presented with a ready interpretation of the text, they are unable to understand it properly. The fact that the letter is mentioned in school textbooks creates an illusion that it was an important element of the anti‐communist resistance; however, this is not what actually happened. Including the text in the history curriculum aims at not only appreciating its authors but also downplaying their earlier engagement in building Communism in Poland.
