Opis:
A core-shell nanocube antenna is proposed to numerically simulate broadband unidirectional scattering. Comparing the scattering of a dielectric nanocube and core-shell nanocube, it is found that the core-shell nanocube has a higher forward/backward ratio and better unidirectional scattering efficiency. In order to further enhance forward scattering efficiency and reduce the side-lobe of scattering, the particle chain of core-shell nanocubes is proposed by arranging multiple nanoparticles. It is possible to achieve better unidirectional scattering over a wide spectral range. In addition, we also numerically studied the effect of the gap between the particles and the radius of the metal core on unidirectional scattering. It is demonstrated that the optimal gap should be selected to achieve ideal unidirectional forward scattering. The unique optical properties of core-shell nanocubes have important practical applications particularly in the fields of nanoantennas, photovoltaic devices, and nanolasers that require reflection suppression.

Opis:
Our scientific research is based on the monitoring of ions before and after filtration of groundwaters in the water plant of Velekinca in the municipality of Gjilan, Kosovo. Sandy filters are the most commonly used industrial filters in surface – and groundwater industries. The reason is their low construction cost and high processing capacity. In our scientific research, sand filters used in the plant do not have perfect filtration, so we can monitor results before filtration (BF) and after filtration (AF) by determining the concentration of some ions and molecules. The following average concentrations have described: Ca2+ (BF: 83.42, AF: 83.19) mg·dm–3, Mg2+ (BF: 35.59, AF: 34.35) mg·dm–3, Cl– (BF: 28.018, AF: 28.73) mg·dm–3, SO42– (BF: 42.76, AF: 44.46) mg·dm–3, HCO3– (BF: 410.9, AF: 404.81) mg·dm–3, A-HCl (BF: 6.73, AF: 6.63) ml-HCl, GH (BF: 19.94, AF: 19.62) °dH, CS (BF: 18.87, AF: 18.5) °dH and NO2– (BF: 0.0033, AF: 0.0022) mg·dm–3. Being scientific researchers in the field of water treatment technology, we have concluded that ions create an affinity for sand particles. They attach to each other by creating an ion-sand particle physical chain. According to our scientific research, sand filters are difficult to guarantee a high quality of water processing.

Opis:
Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations complement experimental methods in studies of the structure and dynamics of lipid bilayers. The choice of algorithms employed in this computational method represents a trade-off between the accuracy and real calculation time. The largest portion of the simulation time is devoted to calculation of long-range electrostatic interactions. To speed-up evaluation of these interactions, various approximations have been used. The most common ones are the truncation of long-range interactions with the use of cut-offs, and the particle-mesh Ewald (PME) method. In this study, several multi-nanosecond cut-off and PME simulations were performed to establish the influence of the simulation protocol on the bilayer properties. Two bilayers were used. One consisted of neutral phosphatidylcholine molecules. The other was a mixed lipid bilayer consisting of neutral phosphatidylethanolamine and negatively charged phosphatidylglycerol molecules. The study shows that the cut-off simulation of a bilayer containing charge molecules generates artefacts; in particular the mobility and order of the charged molecules are vastly different from those determined experimentally. In the PME simulation, the bilayer properties are in general agreement with experimental data. The cut-off simulation of bilayers containing only uncharged molecules does not generate artefacts, nevertheless, the PME simulation gives generally better agreement with experimental data.

Opis:
The article presents the results of simulation of the Discreet Elements Method (DEM) applied to the chain conveyor model with regard to optimisation of its carriers´ geometry. The work is focused on the impact pulses of carriers in the first part of the chain conveyor´s transport cycle and the influence of a change in the carrier element´s geometry on vector motion of particles and velocity differences of motion of the transported material. The issue is solved by the DEM method, where a 3D model of the tested equipment and a simulation of material transportation in the transport system is created. Virtual 3D models of equipment can be easily adjusted such as changes in the structure dimensions. In the text, it is the approach to testing the influence of the chain conveyors carrier´s geometry on the character of motion of particles. The results show that the carrier´s geometry changes the trajectory of motion and velocity of the transported material particles during their transport on the chain conveyors.
Artykuł przedstawia wyniki symulacji za pomocą Metody Elementów Dyskretnych (ang. skrót DEM) zastosowanej do modelu przenośnika łańcuchowego w celu optymalizacji geometrii taśm.

Opis:
Optimization of a sustainable supply chain network design (SSCND) is a complex decision-making process which can be done by the optimal determination of a set of decisions and constraints such as the selection of suppliers, transportation-related facilities and distribution centres. Different optimization techniques have been applied to handle various SSCND problems. Meta- heuristic algorithms are developed from these techniques that are commonly used to solving supply chain related problems. Among them, Genetic algorithms (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) are implemented as optimization solvers to obtain supply network design decisions. This paper aims to compare the performance of these two evolutionary algorithms in optimizing such problems by minimizing the total cost that the system faces to potential disruption risks. The mechanism and implementation of these two evolutionary algorithms is presented in this paper. Also, using an optimization considers ordering, purchasing, inventory, transportation, and carbon tax cost, a numerical real-life case study is presented to demonstrate the validity of the effectiveness of these algorithms. A comparative study for the algorithms performance has been carried out based on the quality of the obtained solution and the results indicate that the GA performs better than PSO in finding lower-cost solution to the addressed SSCND problem. Despite a lot of research literature being done regarding these two algorithms in solving problems of SCND, few studies have compared the optimization performance between GA and PSO, especially the design of sustainable systems under risk disruptions.
