This paper is focusing on 3D Finite Elements Analysis (FEA) based modelling of protrusions as defects or imperfections in the XLPE high voltage cable. This study is aiming to examine the impact protrusions have on the initiation of partial discharges. Spherical and ellipsoidal protrusions with different sizes at the conductor screen of the high voltage cable is an essential content of this paper. In addition, a spherical gas-filled void is placed inside and outside the protrusions, and a water tree produced from protrusions is under consideration. The partial discharge influence taking place at the protrusions and the stress enhancement factor is determined for all the variations mentioned to quantify the rise in the inception of partial discharges due to the protrusions.

Opis:
Tematyka niniejszego artykułu dotyczy doskonalenia praktycznych zastosowań metody emisji akustycznej (EA) w diagnostyce wysokonapięciowych układów izolacyjnych urządzeń elektroenergetycznych. W szczególności przedstawiono podstawowe założenia oraz opisano poszczególne elementy eksperckiego systemu diagnostycznego wykorzystującego metodę akustyczną do oceny stanu mierzonej izolacji transformatorów energetycznych, wykonywanej podczas ich normalnej pracy w warunkach przemysłowych.
The subject matter of this paper refers to the development of practical applications of the acoustic emission (EA) method to diagnostics of high-voltage insulation systems of power appliances, carried out during their regular operation in industrial conditions. First of all, basic assumptions are presented and the particular elements of the expert diagnostic system using AE method for the assessment of the condition of the electric power transformer insulation measured are described. Fig. 1 shows its block diagram in which the following modules can be distinguished: a measuring system (Figs. 2 and 3), a processing - analysing system, a knowledge base and a classifier. These modules are characterised successively in Section 2 of the paper. Special attention is given to the description of the group of multiparametric descriptors (Fig. 4) characterising the AE signals in the time, frequency and time-frequency domains, including descriptive statistics indexes and correlative parameters. Accordant descriptors make it possible, under strictly defined metrological conditions, to recognize basic partial discharge forms (PDs) that may occur in paper-oil insulation. In this way a catalogued knowledge base containing the so-called 'fingerprints' was created for basic types of high-voltage defects of insulation systems. The scope of the research work carried out in the Institute of Power Engineering, connected with a practical implementation of the system suggested, is characterised in the last section of the paper.

Tematyka artykułu dotyczy oceny możliwości wykorzystania jednokierunkowej sieci neuronowej w systemie eksperckim diagnostyki stanu układów izolacyjnych transformatorów elektroenergetycznych. W artykule przedstawiono teoretyczne i praktyczne możliwości budowy systemu ekspertowego, bazującego na metodzie emisji akustycznej, wspomagającego diagnostykę układów izolacyjnych transformatorów dużej mocy. Zamieszczone w pracy wyniki przedstawiają skuteczność rozpoznawania badanych form WNZ (defektów izolacji), uzyskaną przy zastosowaniu klasyfikatora neuronowego, jak również ocenę możliwości jego zastosowania jako mechanizmu wnioskującego komputerowego systemu diagnostycznego.
The subject matter of the paper refers to the evaluation of the application possibilities of a single-direction neural network in the expert system of the diagnostics of the insulation system condition. The paper presents theoretical and practical possibilities of building an expert system based on the acoustic emission method, assisting the diagnostics of insulation systems of high power transformers. The results presented in this paper show the recognition effectiveness of the PD forms under study (insulation defects), obtained by using a neural classifier as well as the evaluation of its application possibilities as an inferring mechanism of a computer diagnostic system.

Opis:
The electrical cable reliability is largely linked to the state of its insulation, which can be threatened by the partial discharges (PDs) activity. This phenomenon is localized in defects created within insulation during the manufacture process and the cable installation. The cavity defect is among the most known defects within the insulating material filled with different gases and having various forms. Under electrical stress, the PDs occur and lead with time to a cable failure. The PDs simulation in cavity defect within cable insulation has became an important tool for a complementary understanding of the experimental task. The plasma model has been considered in last decade as an alternative to describe physically and chemically the PDs mechanism versus the other models such as the capacitance, conductance model. Using plasma model our work aims to simulate the PDs in cavity defect within cable insulation by showing the parameters influence such as the type of gas contained in the cavity, the voltage magnitude and frequency imposed on the insulation on their occurrence through its occurrence mechanisms. This helps to assess the PDs severity on the insulation system to carry out its diagnosis and therefore to have an effective reliability of cable.

Tematyka niniejszego artykułu dotyczy doskonalenia praktycznych zastosowań metody spektrofotometrii optycznej w diagnostyce wysokonapięciowych układów izolacyjnych urządzeń elektroenergetycznych, wykonywanej podczas ich normalnej pracy w warunkach przemysłowych. W artykule przedstawiono możliwości rozpoznawania podstawowych form wyładowań elektrycznych na podstawie wyników analizy widm optycznych emitowanego podczas ich występowania promieniowania elektromagnetycznego. W szczególności w celach porównawczych zestawiono wartości wybranych deskryptorów tj. wartości średniej (tabela 1) i maksymalnej (tabela 2) intensywności promieniowania optycznego emitowanego przez wybrane formy wyładowań elektrycznych zupełnych i niezupełnych, jakie mogą występować w powietrzu i oleju izolacyjnym. Wartości zostały wyznaczone dla trzech wybranych pasm długości fal promieniowania tj. UV (ultrafioletowego) / VIS (widzialnego) / NIR (bliskiej podczerwieni). Ponadto w artykule scharakteryzowano koncepcję systemu diagnostycznego oceny wyładowań niezupełnych opartego na wynikach uzyskiwanych przy zastosowaniu metody spektrofotometrii optycznej. Zaproponowany system oparty jest na zastąpieniu spektrofotometru czujnikiem składającym się z trzech detektorów promieniowania optycznego, czułych na fale w zakresach UV, VIS i NIR. Schemat blokowy systemu przedstawiono na rys. 1. W podsumowaniu scharakteryzowano zakres realizowanych obecnie prac naukowo-badawczych w Instytucie Elektroenergetyki związanych z praktyczną implementacją zaproponowanego systemu.
This paper deals with the development of practical applications of the optical spectrophotometry method to diagnostics of high-voltage insulation systems of power appliances performed during their regular operation under industrial conditions. There are presented the possibilities for recognition of basic electrical discharge forms based on the analysis of optical spectra emitted during the appearance of electromagnetic radiation. For the purpose of comparison the values of selected descriptors are given. They are the mean values (Table 1) and the maximum (Table 2) optical radiation intensity emitted by selected forms of partial and disruptive electrical discharges which can occur in air and insulation oil. The values are determined for three selected bands of radiation wave lengths, i.e. UV (ultraviolet) / VIS (visible) / NIR (near infrared). Moreover, the concept of a diagnostic system for assessment of partial discharges based on the results obtained by using the optical spectrophotometry method is presented in this paper. The system proposed is based on replacement of a spectrometer with a sensor consisting of three optical radiation detectors, sensitive to waves in UV, VIS and NIR ranges. The block diagram of the system is shown in Fig. 1. In the concluding remarks there is characterized the research work conducted in the Institute of Power Engineering aimed at practical implementation of the system proposed.

The paper presents Labview program for automatic measurements of current pulses in polyethylene insulation during the first stage of electrical treeing. The pulses have a very short duration (ns) and a small level of current, so to make the measurements possible, the differential method was applied. This method allows to compensate the residual dissipative and capacitive current of the control sample by the same current in the standard sample.
Proponowany referat przedstawia aplikację opracowaną na bazie programu LabView współpracującą z oscyloskopem cyfrowym za pośrednictwem karty GPiB. Program ma na celu ciągłą (on-line) rejestrację impulsów prądowych mających charakter niepowtarzalny o krótkich czasach trwania (ns). Rejestrowane impulsy związane są z ruchem ładunku elektrycznego w obszarze przyelektrodowym (układ ostrze-płyta uziemiona), w początkowej fazie drzewienia elektrycznego. Aby mierzyć składową prądu związaną tylko z ruchem ładunku zastosowano metodę wykorzystującą układ wzmacniacza różnicowego. Sygnał pomiarowy w układzie uzyskuje się mierząc spadki napięć na dwóch rezystorach bezindukcyjnych włączonych szeregowo w obwody obu próbek - badanej i wzorcowej. Napięcie z wyjścia wzmacniacza różnicowego rejestrowano oscyloskopem cyfrowym i przesłano do komputera za pomocą karty GPIB. Aplikacja napisana w LabView umożliwia rejestrację i akwizycję wybranych parametrów kolejnych impulsów prądowych, zapisywanych w standardowym formacie pliku tekstowego (spreadsheet).

W artykule opisano działanie uniwersalnego systemu ciągłego monitorowania wyładowań niezupełnych (wnz) w różnych typach maszyn wirujących. Przedstawiono doświadczenia wynikające z zastosowania tego systemu do oceny stanu izolacji wirnika turbo- i hydro- generatorów. Wskazano na zalety wynikające z posiadania systemu pomiaru cyfrowego wnz, którego zakresy pomiarowe mogą być łatwo dostosowywane do typu maszyny i poziomu sygnału zakłóceniowego. Wskazano na znaczenie automatycznego systemu do identyfikacji typu defektu w izolacji statora maszyny i na odróżnienie sygnałów wnz od sygnałów zakłóceniowych. Podano przykłady zastosowań, gdzie pokazano, że defekty krytyczne mogą być wcześnie wykryte, a ich ewolucja może być monitorowana w sposób ciągły.
In this article, the challenges in the application of continuous partial discharge (PD) monitoring of rotating machines are presented. A versatile partial discharge monitoring system is described that is applicable to different machines and can be connected to a vast range of sensors. The experience gathered from PD monitoring to assess the condition of turbo and hydro generator stator winding insulation is shown in the paper. The advantage of having a fully digital system, whose settings can be easily remotely adjusted is shown. The advanced features for noise and PD defects signal separation based on synchronous multi-channel techniques are also presented. Case studies are included, which indicate that critical defects can be detected early and their evolution can be monitored.

W artykule scharakteryzowano pojęcie deskryptora emisji akustycznej Arms oraz ładunku pozornego wyładowań niezupełnych. Przedstawiono układ do generacji wybranych form wyładowań niezupełnych oraz pomiaru ładunku pozornego i emisji akustycznej. Pokazano przykładowe wyniki pomiarów. Oceniono przydatność mierzonego deskryptora do opisu zjawiska wyładowań niezupełnych.
In the article the acoustic emission descriptor Arms and the apparent charge of partial discharge were characterized. The system generating the chosen forms of partial discharges and measuring apparent charge and acoustic emission was presented. The results of measurement were illustrated. Usefulness of the descriptor for the analysis of partial discharges was evaluated

Opis:
An alternative method for analysis of acoustic emission (AE) signals generated by partial discharges (PD), based on a correlation between voltage phase run and AE pulses, so called phase resolved PD pattern (PRPD), is presented in the paper. PRPD pattern is a well-known analysis tool commonly used in such PD diagnostic methods as conventional electrical and UHF ones. Moreover, it yields various signal analysis abilities and allows a direct correlation indication between measurement results achieved using different methods. An original PRPD measurement methodology applied for AE method as well as some exemplary measurement results and further data analysis capabilities are presented in the paper. Also a comparative analysis of PRPD patterns achieved using various measurement methods and different PD source configurations have been investigated. All presented experiments were done under laboratory conditions using PD model sources immersed in the insulation oil. The main purpose of the presented research is to indicate an all-embracing analytical tool that yields an ability to direct comparison (qualitative as well as quantitative) of the AE measurement results with other commonly applied PD measurement methods. The presented results give a solid fundamental for further research work concerning a direct correlation method for AE and other described in the paper diagnostic techniques, mainly in order to continue PD phenomena analysis and assessment in real life high voltage apparatus insulation systems under normal onsite operation conditions.
