    Opis:
    The article studies the correlation between the Slavonic liturgical and non-liturgical versions of the Book of Exodus. The linguistic-textological data as well as some variant readings allow us to conclude that during the translation of the non-liturgical (full, četi) text of the Book of Exodus the translator did not use already translated paroemias. There is every reason to associate this new translation with the texts translated or revised in Preslav in the 10th century. The liturgical (paroemias) readings were included in the full copies of Exodus later and thus partially replaced the non-liturgical text. Most often this replacement was performed in the full copies of late Russian group.

    Opis:
    This article analyses nineteenth-century paroemias from the threevolume collection Halytsʹko-rusʹki narodni prypovidky [Galician-Ruthenian Folk Paroemias] by Ivan Franko, published in 1901–1910. The proverbs and sayings recorded in the collection indicate that in the nineteenth century Ukrainians often combined words that sound alike, which endowed them with new shades of meaning. In order to add expressivity and subtle humour, Ukrainian speakers made skilful use of rich lexico-semantic and grammatical resources. They played with transformation of homonyms, paronomasia, and metathesis of syllables or words in syntagmas. They also used synonyms and words from the same word families and they created onyms.
    W artykule zanalizowano dziewiętnastowieczną paremię zamieszczoną w trzytomowym zbiorze Галицько-руські народні приповідки, którą w latach 1901–1910 opublikował Iwan Franko. Zawarte w nim przysłowia i porzekadła świadczą, że w XIX wieku Ukraińcy często łączyli wyrazy o podobnym brzmieniu, co nadawało im nowe odcienie znaczeniowe. Dla wyrażenia ekspresji i subtelnego humoru umiejętnie korzystali z bogatego zasobu leksykalno-semantycznego i gramatycznego. W grze językowej sięgali po: przekształcanie homonimów, paronomazję, przestawianie sylab lub wyrazów w syntagmach. Wykorzystywali również synonimy i wyrazy pokrewne, stosowali reinterpretację etymologiczną, tworzyli także onimy.

    Opis:
    The paper’s subject is tracing the historical memory of the Ukrainian people as evidenced in (broadly understood) phraseological items that contain oikonyms as well as adjectives derived from oikonyms, and refl ect the 19th c. Ukrainians’ perception of their history and neighbouring countries, and also their everyday life, local customs and memorable occurrences related to some inhabited places both in Dnieper Ukraine, then belonging to the Russian Empire, and in Western Ukraine, then part of the Austrian (after 1867, Austrian-Hungarian) Empire. Some of the phraseological units discussed in the paper and drawn from M. Nomys’ 1864 collection “Ukrainian sayings, proverbs and the like” are recorded in modern dictionaries, while the others are only found in the 19th - early 20th c. dictionaries. The author attempts to elucidate the origin and meaning of phraseologisms that are incomprehensible for Present-day Ukrainian speakers. In her reconstruction of relevant fragments of the 19th c. Ukrainians’ world picture, she uses the methods of historical-linguistic and linguistic-cultural analysis, also taking into account extralinguistic data.
