The religious education which prepares for Confirmation should be incessantly renewed. It results from the unprecedented pace of civilizational changes, on which the youth are exposed. They need reinforcement which the Sacrament of Confirmation brings. It alsoconstitutes the unusual chance in the process of faith of the young man. Seeking the optimal model of the religious education for Confirmation, and more widely a youth chaplaincy, is an expression of care of the young man. Using mutual experience and learning from each other can bring new and valuable inspiration. One can see it on the example of compared organizational elements of the religious education which prepares for Confirmation in Poland and in Germany. Without their proper forming even the best selected content and methods of the transmission will not be able to bring full fruits.

Jednym z podstawowych zadań spoczywających na wspólnocie parafialnej Kościoła katolickiego jest tworzenie przestrzeni umożliwiających spotkanie z Bogiem na wspólnej modlitwie, w sakramentach świętych i w słowie Bożym. Ważne jest, by parafie stwarzały również warunki, które mogą pomóc kształtować wiarę i umożliwić jej doświadczenie. Tak wielowymiarowe zadanie, spoczywające na wspólnotach parafialnych, realizuje się m.in. przez planowaną i systematyczną posługę katechetyczną, zwłaszcza tę przygotowującą do przyjęcia sakramentów świętych. Mając na uwadze pluralizm doświadczeń religijnych współczesnej młodzieży oraz potrzebę jak najskuteczniejszego oddziaływania katechetycznego, zwłaszcza w przygotowaniu kandydatów do sakramentu bierzmowania, proponuje się obecnie m.in. zaangażowanie w to przygotowanie większej grupy osób, zarówno duchownych, jak i świeckich, którzy świadectwem swojego życia wiary wzmocnią przekaz katechetyczny. W niniejszym opracowaniu ukazana została rola świeckich animatorów w przygotowaniu kandydatów do sakramentu bierzmowania, istotne elementy formacji animatorów oraz formy posługi. Odpowiedzialna współpraca prowadzona w duchu dialogu oraz wielkoduszności może zaowocować w przyszłym dorosłym życiu katechizowanych.
One of the basic functions of the Catholic Church parish community is creating the space for communing with God in common prayer, the holy sacraments and the Word of God, creating the environment shaping the faith and enabling the experience of faith. This multidimensional task, being part of the parish community work, is implemented, among others, through scheduled and systematic catechetical service, especially when it comes to preparing for the reception of the holy sacraments. Considering the pluralism of contemporary youths’ religious experience and the need for the most effective catechetical impact, especially during the time of preparation for the sacrament of confirmation, what is currently being suggested is the involvement of a larger group of people, both the clergy and the laity, who could enforce the catechetical message with their testimony of the life of faith. This elaboration will show the role of lay animators in the time of preparation of candidates for the sacrament of confirmation, relevant elements of the animators’ formation and forms of service. Responsible cooperation led in the spirit of dialogue and generosity may bring fruit in the future adult life of the catechized.

W artykule zostały zaprezentowane wątki maryjne w katechezie parafialnej i przedsięwzięciach pastoralnych w polskich parafiach. Autorzy ukazali znaczenie parafii oraz rolę mariologii w przekazie katechetycznym. Została zwrócona uwaga zarówno na aspekt pobożnościowy, jak i formacyjny nauczania. W dalszej części przedstawiono wyniki sondażu dotyczącego form kultu maryjnego i uczestnictwa w nich dzieci oraz młodzieży, a także maryjny profil ich formacji w parafialnych grupach. Badania pokazały, iż parafialne wspólnoty skupiają tyko niewielki odsetek dzieci i młodzieży, natomiast większą frekwencją cieszą się formy pobożności i kultu maryjnego w parafiach. Analiza poszczególnych grup wykazała, że ważne jest odpowiednie przygotowanie animatorów i liderów poszczególnych wspólnot nie tylko o charakterze maryjnym.
The article presents Marian motives in parish catechesis and pastoral projects in Poland. The importance of the parish and the role of mariology in catechesis were depicted at first. Attention was paid to both the piety aspect and the teaching about Mary. The paper discusses the results of the survey in 26 selected Polish Catholic parishes on the forms of Marian devotion and the participation of children and young people in Marian services (like the rosary, Rorate Mass, pilgrimages to Marian shrines) as well as the Marian profile of parish groups especially for children and young people. The research has shown that parish groups gather only a small percentage of children and young people, while various forms of Marian devotion in parishes enjoy a higher turnout. The analysis has also stressed the importance of a proper preparation of parish communities leaders as far as the Marian aspect of their activity is concerned.

Catechesis is a dynamic process. The Church is constantly looking for new solutions to make it more effective. Catechesis is so closely connected to its surrounding milieu that it is not usually possible to use ready-made solutions from abroad. However, one must not exclude the possibility of drawing inspiration from the experience of other countries. Holding to this conviction, the author attempts to re-read Polish catechesis in the light of an official catechetical document by the French bishops: “Texte national pour l’orientation de la catéchèse en France et principes d’organisation” (2006). The reading of the French document permits the author to formulate some propositions for catechesis in Poland: to develop parish catechesis for children, youth and adults; to accentuate the relationship between catechesis and liturgy; to verify the place and role of the Word of God in catechesis.

Due to dynamic cultural changes and related religious transformation there are many attempts to create adequate system of Christian formation in Poland. Such formation should include both the teaching of religion in schools and catechesis realized in the parish. Teaching religion in schools is an irreplaceable form of catechesis, but should be complemented by a parish catechesis. Religious education should focus on the dialogue between faith and culture and above all strengthen the cognitive dimension of catechesis. The parish catechesis should place particular emphasis on Christian initiation and preparation for the sacraments. Only the complementary model of Christian formation involving religious education in school and catechesis in the parish gives hope for the effectiveness of formation.

The article shows, in detail, the interrelation which occurs between the parish religious education and school teaching of religion in Poland. The author takes up a reflection 25 years after bringing religion back to schools. Starting from establishments of religious educationdocuments of the Catholic and Polish Church, he points at the complementarity of these two forms of the religious education service of the word. It is also related to the possibility of carrying three functions of religious education out - the teaching, the upbringing and acquainting both in the parish, and at the school. In conclusion, the author formulates conclusions which are a response to the complementarity challenge of the parish catechesis and religious education in Poland. In the special way he stresses out the substantial role of liturgy and its connections with the religious education.

Artykuł ma na celu dokonanie przeglądu refleksji współczesnych polskich katechetyków na temat wiary. Problematyka wiary jest ważna i zawsze aktualna, dlatego często pojawia się ona w wielu publikacjach. Katechetycy podejmują różne problemy, a wśród nich często zajmują się rozwijaniem poznania treści wiary i kształtowaniem postaw wynikających z wiary. Są to problemy wpisane w naturę katechezy i wychowania chrześcijańskiego, dlatego poświęcono im wiele uwagi w niniejszym artykule. Uzupełniono je o definiowanie wiary – polscy katechetycy też o tym piszą, nie można było więc pominąć tej problematyki.
The aim of this article is to review the reflections of contemporary Polish catechists concerning faith. Since the issue of faith is important and always up-to-date it often appears in many publications. Catechists deal with different problems such as developing the perception of faith and the formation of attitudes stemming from faith. These problems are inscribed in the nature of catechesis and Christian education and that is why a lot of attention is paid to them in this article. They are completed with the definition of faith. Polish catechists also write about it so it could not have been omitted.

The present paper continues a series of publications on Eastern and Western Fathers of the Church in biblical catechesis. The Fathers who are recognized with the titles of the Great Doctors of the Church were selected for presentation. The series is neither focused on patristic research, nor concerned in presentation of the broad spectrum of topics related to a particular Father of the Church in catechesis, but it is intended to draw the practical application for biblical catechesis out of the life and works of Fathers. The present paper is dedicated to St. Ambrose, the bishop of Milan. There were presented propositions for biblical catechesis resulting from the realization of purposes of gaining knowledge, acquiring skills and abilities, and building attitudes. Also the six basic tasks of catechesis are referred to.

The author presents a model and a program of extracurricular (optional) classes, the subject of which is the Holy Bible. Biblical school groups offer includes a characterization of the class participants, an ascertainment of the relation of biblical school groups to school religious instruction and parish catechesis as well as a summary of the expected objectives and the form of classes conducted as a part of such activities. The article ends with a detailed program of the biblical school groups work at primary and junior-high school levels.

Współczesny Kościół, aby był skuteczny w obszarze wychowania, musi podjąć określone wyzwania. Pierwszym jest utrzymanie i rozwijanie świadomości w rodzicach, że są pierwszymi wychowawcami swoich dzieci. Dzisiaj bowiem dość często zwalniają się z religijnego wychowania potomstwa. Tymczasem to rodzina jest domowym Kościołem, który dba o rozwój swoich członków. Innym wyzwaniem jest odbudowa katechezy dorosłych. Nie ma takiej katechezy w Polsce. Istnieje natomiast ścisły związek między katechezą rodziców a skutecznym wychowaniem młodego pokolenia. Należy także zadbać, aby rozwijała się katecheza parafialna. Jest ona podstawową drogą wychowania chrześcijańskiego. Nie zastąpi tej katechezy nauczanie religii w szkole, które nie jest do końca katechezą. Nie przyniosła ona w Polsce religijnego ożywienia uczniów. Ważnym wyzwaniem jest również obecność w świecie mediów. Młodzi ludzie traktują świat mediów jako własną przestrzeń życia, która jednak rodzi problemy alienacji z rzeczywistego życia, uzależnienia, chaos informacyjny powodujący niezdolność do wyboru pozytywnych wartości.
The contemporary Church, in order to be effective in the area of education, must take up specific challenges. The first one is to establish and develop parents’ awareness that they are the earliest educators of their children. It is noticed that they quite often discharge themselves from providing religious education for their offspring. Whereas, a family is the Church that looks after the growth of its members. Another challenge is to renew the adult catechesis which does not exist in Poland. There is a close relationship between catechesis of parents and effective education of young people. It is also importat to develop parish catechesis as it is a primary path of Christian education. Such catechesis cannot be replaced by Religious Education at schools, as it is not the proper catechesis. Religious Education has little impact on religious revival of pupils in Poland. Needless to say, resence in the media has a very important role. Young people treat the media as their own living space which, nonetheless, can cause problems of alienation, addiction or chaos information leading to the inability to choose positive values.

The present paper deals with the problem of biblical catechesis intended for adults in the light of the Church documents and studies. Basic catechetical documents were taken into account: the Apostolic Exhortation Catechesi Tradendae of Pope John Paul II on catechesis in our time, the document issued by the Congregation for the Clergy, entitled General directory for catechesis, the document of the Polish Episcopal Conference, entitled Catechetical directory of the catholic Church in Poland, as well as the document issued by the International Council for Catechesis, entitled Adult catechesis in the Christian community: some principles and guidelines, and the consecutive document of the Polish Episcopal Conference – Directory for pastoral care of liturgical ministers. The paper discusses the problem of adult catechesis in parish focusing on biblical catechesis. Selected forms and methods of biblical catechesis in parish were presented, followed by some propositions with respect to the presentation of biblical themes.
Niniejszy artykuł podejmuje zagadnienie katechezy biblijnej skierowanej do osób dorosłych w świetle obowiązujących dokumentów kościelnych i opracowań. Wzięto pod uwagę podstawowe dokumenty katechetyczne: adhortację apostolską Jana Pawła II o katechizacji w czasach współczesnych Catechesi tradendae, dokument Kongregacji ds. Duchowieństwa zatytułowany Dyrektorium ogólne o katechizacji, dokument Konferencji Episkopatu Polski zatytułowany Dyrektorium katechetyczne Kościoła katolickiego w Polsce oraz dokument Międzynarodowej Rady do Spraw Katechezy zatytułowany Katecheza dorosłych we wspólnocie chrześcijańskiej. Niektóre linie i ukierunkowania i następny dokument Konferencji Episkopatu Polski – Dyrektorium duszpasterstwa służby liturgicznej. W artykule przedstawiono zagadnienie katechezy dorosłych w parafii ze zwróceniem uwagi na katechezę biblijną, wymieniono niektóre formy i metody katechezy biblijnej w parafii, a na końcu podano propozycje dotyczące przekazu treści biblijnych.

Te decree of the Metropolitan of Warmia came into force in the Archdiocese of Warmia since September 1st 2015. It relates to the introduction of the systematic parish catechesis of children and young people in all the parishes. Te article presents the activities of the members of Catechetical Council of the Archdiocese of Warmia, who prepared a parish catechesis program. Subsequently, the author presents the broad outlines of this program and the statistics on the organization of systematic parish catechesis. He formulates conclusions and proposals at the end.
Od 1 września 2015 roku w Archidiecezji Warmińskiej zaczął obowiązywać dekret metropolity warmińskiego, dotyczący wprowadzenia we wszystkich parafiach systematycznej katechezy parafialnej dzieci i młodzieży. Artykuł prezentuje działalność Rady Katechetycznej Archidiecezji Warmińskiej, która przygotowała program katechezy parafialnej. W dalszej kolejności autor przedstawia ogólne założenia tego program oraz dane statystyczne dotyczące organizacji systematycznej katechezy parafialnej, a następnie formułuje wnioski i postulaty.

Nauczanie religii powinno dostarczyć uczniom przykładów życia wiary. Takie przykłady znajdziemy najpierw w Piśmie Świętym. Zarówno w Starym, jak i w Nowym Testamencie możemy przeczytać o osobach, które spotkały Boga, co wpłynęło na całe ich życie. W kanonie biblijnym mamy wyraźne wykazy ludzi, wobec których objawiła się Mądrość, będących przykładem życia wiary. Dwa spisy znajdują się w Starym Testamencie: jeden w Księdze Mądrości w wersetach 10, 1 –11, 3, drugi w Mądrości Syracha w tzw. pochwale ojców w wersetach 44, 1 – 50, 21. Trzeci spis – w Nowym Testamencie – zamieścił autor Listu do Hebrajczyków w 11 rozdziale. W niniejszym artykule najpierw zostały przedstawione wykazy osób, które autorzy biblijni podają jako przykłady wiary i modlitwy. Następnie została dokonana analiza Podstawy programowej katechezy Kościoła Katolickiego w Polsce i Programu nauczania religii rzymskokatolickiej w przedszkolach i szkołach pod tym kątem. Na końcu zostały podane propozycje dla lekcji religii w szkole i katechezy parafialnej.
Religious education should provide pupils with examples of the life of faith. Such examples can be found, first of all, in the Bible. Both in the Old and in the New Testament, we can read about people who met God and this fact influenced all their life. The biblical canon provide us with distinct catalogues of people to whom the God’s Wisdom revealed itself and who are the examples of the life of faith. Two lists can be found in the Old Testament: one in the Book of Wisdom, verses 10, 11 – 11, 3, second in the Wisdom of Sirach, in the so-called “Praise of the Ancestors”, verses 44, 1 – 50, 21. The third series occurs in the New Testament, written by the author of the Letter to the Hebrews in Chapter 11. The present paper begins with the introduction of the catalogues of persons given by biblical authors as the examples of faith and prayer. Then follows the analysis of both the Core Curriculum of Catechesis of the Catholic Church in Poland and the Program of Roman Catholic religious education for kindergartens and schools with respect to this matter. The paper is concluded with suggestions for both the religious classes in public schools and the parish catechesis.

Parochial catechesis in Belgium, especially in Flanders as the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium, is confronted with a lot of challenges. This text deals with three main thematic clusters. The fi rst cluster centres on the relation between ‘Christianity’ and ‘culture’ and its consequences for the content and the method of the catechesis. In a context where Christianity and culture are no longer intrinsically linked to each other, new models of catechesis have to be found. The authors propose a ‘hermeneutical model of catechesis’, whereby many elements of the surrounding culture and of the faith tradition(s) are confronted with each other in a multidimensional way, challenging each other. In this vision, religious truth is not a set of dogmas that should be transmitted, but an open and ‘utopian’ search process that asks for new questions time and again. From a didactical as well as from a theological perspective this hermeneutical model offers new opportunities for catechesis. The second cluster can be summarized as ‘life-long’ and ‘life-wide’ learning. The authors argue that is it necessary to create vertical (intergenerational) and horizontal (among a generation or a speci fi c group) networks dealing with religious communication. Thereby they propose a speci fi c church organisation with lots of possibilities for cooperation between different parochial groups. The title of the article, catechesis inside out, refers to the vision that religious communication is not only a task inside church communities. The authors argue for open church communities daring to speak with people that hold to different world views. The second thematic cluster also deals with the organisation of the catechesis and more speci fi cally with the question of the target group or the age of those who are catechised. In a third movement the article deals with questions about finding ‘good’ catechists. At the end of the text the authors offer a summarizing re fl ection on the art work ‘Daughters of Eve’, which contains the main arguments they have dealt with.

W niniejszym artykule w oparciu o dokumenty kościelne i opracowania katechetyczne przedstawiono zagadnienie duszpasterstwa katechetycznego w parafii, etapy katechezy parafialnej, grupy osób dorosłych objętych katechezą oraz treści katechezy biblijnej w parafii. Najwięcej uwagi poświęcono grupom katechetycznym. Wyróżniono w nich osoby podzielone ze względu na zaangażowanie w sprawy wiary, osoby podzielone ze względu na szczególne sytuacje życiowe oraz inne grupy katechetyczne, czyli rodziców, dorosłych posługujących w liturgii oraz katechetów. Do wszystkich tych grup osób dorosłych powinna być skierowana odpowiednia katecheza, w tym również katecheza biblijna otwierająca na spotkanie z Chrystusem obecnym w słowie Bożym.
The present paper describes the problem of parish catechetical ministry, as well as the levels of parish catechesis, groups of adults for which catecheses are intended, and the subject matter of parish biblical catechesis, taking into account the Church documents and catechetical guidelines. Most of the attention was paid to the catechetical groups. There were distinguished groups of adults classified according to their degree of adherence to the faith, or according to their specific life situations, as well as other catechetical groups i.e. parents, lay liturgical ministers, and catechists. A proper catechesis should be directed towards each of these groups of adults. This concerns also the biblical catechesis which prepares to meet Christ present in the Word of God.

After the Second Vatican Council, the Church in Białystok became open to the catechetical trend of kerygmatic renewal. Influenced by Her predecessors, the Church began to move away from didactic catechesis and to developing a catechesis based on initiation. Drawing on years of pastoral experience, the Archdiocese of Białystok implemented its own catechetical program that includes scripts and teaching aids based on a catechumenal model of formation to prepare children to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist.

The objective of this publication is to point out the fact that the links between a religion instructor, religion instruction and a student should be reflected in dynamic catechetic ministry including liturgy, communities and religious organizations, sacramental catechesis, organizing retreats and pilgrimages. The author argues that school does not provide religious formation in all dimensions as it is not able to do that due to its character. Teaching religion at school is not an equivalent of deepening religious formation of the youth. Summing up it should be said that religious education cannot accomplish all the tasks of catechesis which are possible to complete if combined with catechetic ministry in a parish.

The late Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Białystok, Edward Kisiel, was born in Jundziłło in 1918. Through his pastoral activity, he established catechesis within the archdiocese and, consequently, was closely connected with the catechists and the catechetical milieu of the local Church. Although 25 years have passed since Archbishop Kisiel’s death, his memory is still very much alive among catechists and his students and pupils. As a priest because of God’s providence and the express decision of Archbishop Romuald Jałbrzykowski and his successors to the episcopal seat in Białystok; as bishop named by Pope Paul VI; and as an archbishop appointed by John Paul II, Archbishop Edward Kisiel dedicated his entire life to fervently ensuring that he preached the Gospel as the Good News about Jesus Christ. He expressed this mission in his episcopal motto “Evangelizare misit me [Sent to preach the Gospel].” The following article discusses the history of catechesis in Białystok and provides an overview of the years that Fr. Edward Kisiel served pastorally, initially as bishop and then as the first metropolitan archbishop of Białystok. From the moment that he received his episcopal consecration and took possession of the diocese, the Church entrusted him with the task to lead, direct, and properly coordinate the provision of catechesis within his diocese; to foster and sustain sincere catechetical fervor; and to ensure that a living and fruitful faith was cultivated in the people entrusted to his care.
W 1918 roku w Jundziłowie przyszedł na świat Edward Kisiel, późniejszy kapłan i arcybiskup metropolita białostocki. Poprzez swoją działalność duszpasterską kreował rzeczywistość katechetyczną stąd też był mocno związana ze środowiskiem katechetów Kościoła białostockiego. Pomimo, iż mija 25 lat od jego śmierci pozostaje on w żywej pamięci katechetyków, katechetów oraz swoich uczniów i wychowanków. Ks. abp Edward Kisiel, jako kapłan, z woli Opatrzności Bożej, wyrażonej decyzjami abp Romualda Jałbrzykowskiego i jego następców na stolicy biskupiej w Białymstoku, następnie jako biskup mianowany przez papieża Pawła VI i metropolita białostocki powołany przez Jana Pawła II, całe swoje życie poświęcił gorliwemu zatroskaniu o głoszenie Ewangelii, jako Dobrej Nowiny o Jezusie Chrystusie. Wyraził to w swoim biskupim zawołaniu „Evangelizare misit me”. Niniejszy artykuł wpisuje się w nurt zagadnień związanych z historią katechezy i jest próbą panoramicznego spojrzenia na lata pasterskiej posługi biskupa a następnie arcybiskupa Edwarda Kisiela, pierwszego metropolity białostockiego, któremu z chwilą święceń biskupich i objęcia diecezji Kościół powierzył zadanie prowadzenia, kierowania, właściwego koordynowania katechezy w diecezji oraz podtrzymywania w niej szczerego zapału katechetycznego oraz dbania o rozwój żywej i owocnej wiary powierzonego ludu.

Inspiruje do poszukiwania propozycji katechezy parafialnej adresowanej do rodzin. Zachęca, by odkryć i żyć bogactwem adhortacji apostolskiej Amoris laetitia, poprzez różne propozycje o charakterze duchowym, duszpasterskim i kulturalnym, podejmowane w parafiach, diecezjach, na uniwersytetach, w ruchach kościelnych i w stowarzyszeniach rodzin. Rodzina, jako paradygmat całego duszpasterstwa, zasługuje na całoroczne świętowanie tak, by stanęła w centrum zaangażowania i uwagi każdej rzeczywistości duszpasterskiej i kościelnej. Doświadczenie pandemii w sposób szczególny unaoczniło zasadniczą rolę rodziny jako Kościoła domowego i znaczenie wspólnotowych więzi między rodzinami, które czynią z Kościoła „rodzinę rodzin”. Papież Franciszek wymienia trzy główne cele tego wyjątkowego czasu: (1) rozpowszechniać treść adhortacji apostolskiej Amoris laetitia, aby dać poznać rodzinom „doświadczenie, że Ewangelia rodziny jest radością, która «napełnia serce i całe życie»”; (2) Głosić, że sakrament małżeństwa jest darem i że ma w sobie przeobrażającą moc ludzkiej miłości; (3) Czynić rodziny głównymi podmiotami duszpasterstwa rodzinnego. Rok Rodziny Amoris laetitia powinien zaznaczyć się w życiu każdej wspólnoty parafialnej, szczególnie na poziomie przepowiadania, przygotowania liturgii niedziel, świąt, uroczystości i zaangażowania w nie całych rodzin oraz działalności na rzecz członków rodzin, którzy znaleźli się w trudnej sytuacji życiowej.
The Year of Amoris Laetitia Family induces one to reflect on the family, its place and importance in the life of an individual and also of the whole of the human community. It encourages one to seek offers of parish catechesis for families. It provides inspiration to discover and live by the wealth of the apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia through various spiritual, pastoral and cultural proposals offered by parishes, dioceses, universities, ecclesial movements and family associations. The family, as the paradigm of the entire pastoral service, deserves a year-round celebration so that it becomes the focus of commitment and attention of every pastoral and ecclesial reality. The pandemic experience particularly exposed the role of the family as the home Church and the importance of community bonds between families, which make the Church “the family of families”. Pope Francis mentions three main objectives of this unique time: (1) to propagate the contents of the apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia  in order to share with families “the experience that the Gospel of the family is a joy that ‘fills the heart and whole life’”; (2) to preach that the sacrament of marriage is a gift and that it has the power to transform human love; (3) to make families the main objects of pastoral family counselling. The Year of Amoris Laetitia Family should make a mark on the life of each parish community, especially at the level of preaching, preparing the liturgy of Sundays, celebrations and engaging whole families in it and efforts are made to aid those family members who are in a difficult life situation.

The term “vocation” may be understood in many different ways, and in Christianity, most generally, calling a man by God to lead a certain way of life or to perform certain tasks, is defined in this way. Forming the calling, or vocation, although it is a distinct activity, is also closely connected with other aims and tasks of Christian education realized in catechesis. This means that in order to understand and to realize the calling that God directs to a Christian, formation is significant that touches all the dimensions or spheres that are distinguished in the structure of a man as a person; with activities connected with moral education of a child, with prayer and the practice of love, and with manifold forms of education in faith having immediate significance. These questions are at the foundations of setting tasks to modern catechesis that not only aims at making it possible for the catechized one to assimilate faith, but forms the proper attitude of a Christian life and stimulates the fruit of sanctity.

The educational function of the community is fulfilled through teaching,liturgy and pastoral undertakings. These are the fundamental functions ofthe Church. If the Good News which the Church proclaims is to remain theLight “which enlightens every man coming into the world”, the Church mustremain the guarantor of conscience, its guardian, and the defender of theperson, thus of humanity itself. The ecclesial character of Christian moralitydoes not take away from conscience per se. It simply points to a need for itsecclesial interpretation since, apart from God, there is no other immutablebasis for the absolute character of law and moral obligation.The parish plays an important role in the integral education of humansand the development of their faith. It is the most significant place in whichthe Christian community is formed. The parish, therefore, becomes a pointof reference for persons seeking a living Church, looking for a placeof authentic prayer and dialogue, a friendly community which attracts by means of an authentic Christian lifestyle. It is the community of faiththat makes catechesis alive in its teaching, celebration (liturgy), as wellas practice (diaconate). Thanks to these activities, meeting the Church inthe parish becomes real and immediate – it is here that the daily life of thefaithful encounters the reality of Salvation.

Der vorliegende Artikel befasst sich mit dem Thema der Schul- und Gemeindekatechese in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Der Autor stellt die kirchen- und staatsrechtlichen Grundlagen der Schul- und Gemeindekatechese dar. Die katechetische Unterweisung wird durch den Codex des kanonischen Rechtes definiert. Informationen dazu finden sich unter anderem im zweiten Kapitel des Titels „Dienst am Wort Gottes“ in diesem Codex. Nach der kurzen Skizzierung der rechtlichen Grundlagen geht der Autor des Artikels zur Darstellung der Geschichte der Religionspädagogik in Deutschland über. Ihre Ursprünge liegen im 16. Jahrhundert zur Zeit der reformatorischen und gegenreformatorischen Strömungen. Im weiteren Teil des Artikels beschreibt der Autor die gegenwärtige katechetische Unterweisung in Deutschland. Seit den 60er Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts lässt sich eine Entwicklung des Religionsunterrichts von der Katechese zur Religionswissenschaft in der deutschen Schule beobachten. Anstatt die Schüler religiös zu formen und zu erziehen, wird in der Schule Wissen über Religionen vermittelt. Es wird gelehrt, dass es viele gleichwertige Wertsysteme gibt. Die Glaubenswahrheiten und die Sakramente werden dabei übergangen. Vor allem lässt sich feststellen, dass die deutsche Gesellschaft über das Sakrament der Buße falsch informiert ist. Außerdem werden das Leiden Christi, seine Bedeutung für das Leben der Christen und die Rolle Marias im Unterricht nicht thematisiert. Die Gemeindekatechese erfreut sich wiederum keiner großen Beliebtheit. Dies ist wohl auf die Tatsache zurückzuführen, dass viele junge Menschen vom institutionellen Charakter der Kirche enttäuscht sind. Darüber hinaus gibt es einen großen Anteil an atheistischer Bevölkerung (vor allem in den neuen Bundesländern). Deshalb ist der Autor der Meinung, dass eine erneute Evangelisierung statt der Katechese notwendig ist, damit die Deutschen wieder an Jesus und die Mutter Gottes glauben.
The article deals with the topic of the school and parish catechesis in the Federal Republic of Germany. The author presents the legal basis of the catechesis, in the Church and in the State. The catechetic teaching is defined in the Code of Canon Law. Information on this can be found in the second chapter of the title “The Ministry of the Divine Word” in this code. After a brief outline of the legal basis the author proceeds to presenting the history ofreligious education in Germany. Its origins lie in the 16th century at the time of Reformation and Counter-Reformation.In a further part of the article the author describes the current catechetic teaching in Germany. Since the 1960s we can observe a development from catechesis to religious studies in the religious education at school. Instead of forming and educating pupils religiously, knowledge of religions is imparted at school. It is taught that there are many equally valid systems of values. The truths of faith and the sacraments are omitted during lessons. Above all, it can be observed that the German society is misinformed about the sacrament of penance. Besides, the passion of Christ, its meaning for a Christian and the role of the Holy Virgin Mary are not among the topics in school. On the other hand, parish catechesis is not very popular. The reason for this is probably the disappointment of the young people aboutthe institutional character of the Church. In addition, there is a high percentage of atheists (especially in the former East Germany). Therefore, the author claims that there is a need ofa renewed evangelisation instead of catechesis in Germany, in order that people believe in Jesus and the Mother of God again.

Opis:
Religious Education was reintroduced to state Polish schools in September 1990. The par- ticipation is not obligatory and it depends on parents and pupils. Sociological studies show that Religious Education has far more supporters than opponents which, undoubtedly, is the pastoral success of the Catholic Church. Despite the fact that in the last few years the attendance at RE was dropping, the vast majority of pupils still participate in it. Young people assess the quality of RE in a positive way. Some of them think that RE is interesting and they participate in it willingly. Others are of the opinion that RE is no di erent from other subjects. For the Catholic Church Religious Education is an important pastoral task. Therefore, it under- takes activities in order to provide quali ed RE teachers. The drawback of this e ort is, undoubtedly, the fact that the catechization at school is done by laypeople with the simultaneous pullback of priests. Both pupils and parents are of the opinion that such actions not only impair the quality of RE teaching and lead to poor participation but also damage the relation between young people and parishes. In times when the level of religiosity and morality is falling, the Church should intensify its e ort to stop the process of secularization of young generation and strengthen or even rebuild the relation between young people with local Church communities by providing e ective RE teaching.

Opis:
One of the essential catechetical and pastoral problems is the question of preparation for first confession and Holy Communion. Interest in this issue is an expression of concern by catechists and priests regarding the proper formation of children before receiving these sacraments. This theme has returned recently in connection with the implementation of the guidelines of the Core Curriculum of the Catechesis approved on 8 March 2010. The document gives a few indications in preparing children for the sacraments of Christian initiation: Penance and Reconciliation as well as Holy Eucharist. The instructions concern, among other things: the time of accession to these sacraments, forms of the pastoral-liturgical meetings for children and their parents in the period of preparation, their frequency and subject matter, and finally, the religious knowledge required of children at this stage of education. The approximation of these issues seems to be crucial as they may in fact affect the manner of work of individuals responsible for the education and religious formation of children preparing for their first confession and First Holy Communion.
Jednym z istotnych problemów katechetycznych i duszpasterskich jest kwestia przygotowania do pierwszej spowiedzi i Komunii św. Interesowanie się tym zagadnieniem jest wyrazem troski katechetów i duszpasterzy o właściwą formację dzieci poprzedzającą przyjęcie tych sakramentów. Temat ten powrócił także w ostatnim czasie w związku z wdrażaniem założeń nowej Podstawy programowej katechezy zatwierdzonej 8 marca 2010 r. Dokument podaje kilka wskazań w zakresie przygotowania dzieci do sakramentów inicjacji chrześcijańskiej: pokuty i pojednania oraz Eucharystii. Dotyczą one między innymi: czasu przystąpienia do tych sakramentów, form spotkań pastoralno-liturgicznych dla dzieci i rodziców w okresie przygotowania, ich częstotliwości, tematyki czy wreszcie wiedzy religijnej wymaganej od dzieci na tym etapie edukacyjnym. Przybliżenie tych zagadnień wydaje się istotne, mogą bowiem rzutować na sposób pracy osób odpowiedzialnych za edukację i formację religijną dzieci w okresie ich przygotowania do pierwszej spowiedzi i Komunii św.

Opis:
Directory is a long known form of conduct for Church’s people and institutions in given domain. One published in 1997 is a result of 50 years of studies. During this time many documents have appeared that analyzed the issue of catechesis from the perspective of the whole Church. Tis Directory helps to go deeper into the nature of catechesis as Church understands it. Te document presents achievements of catechesis aſter then Second Vatican Council, such as the rule of Trinitarian Chrystocentricity, the rule of faithfulness to God and man, the need for hierarchy of truths of faith, basic, dynamic catechistic environments such as family, school and parish gathered around Jesus Christ .
Dyrektorium jest znaną i stosowaną w Kościele od kilku wieków formą regulowania postępowania i działalności osób lub instytucji kościelnych w określonej dziedzinie. Opublikowane w 1997 Dyrektorium ogólne o katechizacji stanowi zwieńczenie katechetycznych poszukiwań ostatnich 50 lat, w ciągu których pojawiły się dokumenty, które dogłębnie analizowały zagadnienia katechezy w skali całego Kościoła. Dyrektorium to pozwala głębiej wniknąć w naturę katechezy, a więc poznać, jak ją dzisiaj Kościół rozumie. Prezentuje ono istotne osiągnięcia katechetyki po Soborze Watykańskim II, jakimi są zasada chrystocentryzmu trynitarnego, zasada wierności Bogu i człowiekowi, potrzeba hierarchii prawd wiary, skoncentrowanych wokół Jezusa Chrystusa i zdynamizowania podstawowych środowisk katechetycznych, jakimi są rodzina, szkoła i parafia.
