Opis:
This paper deals with the numerical simulation of an instability phenomenon called Lueders bands with two regularized material models: viscoplasticity and gradient-enhanced plasticity. The models are based on large strain kinematics and temperature-dependence is incorporated. The Huber–Mises–Hencky yield condition and multi-branch hardening are employed. After a brief presentation of the constitutive description, test computations are performed using AceGen and AceFEM symbolic packages for Wolfram Mathematica. The first benchmark is a rectangular tensile plate in plane strain isothermal conditions. For the viscoplastic model, simulation results for different values of viscosity, loading duration and enforced displacement are compared. For the gradient model different internal lengths are used. Mesh sensitivity of the results and the influence of boundary conditions are also examined. Next to the Lueders-type response to a softening-hardening yield strength function, an additional softening stage leading to failure is also considered. The second example concerns a bone-shape sample under tension, for which, next to mesh sensitivity and the effect of regularization, the influence of heat conduction on simulation results is evaluated.

Opis:
The geosynthetic reinforced soil (GRS) system finds applications in numerous geotechnical projects, including retaining walls, road and railway embankments, slope stability structures, landfill structures, etc. This is attributed to its ability to enhance soil bearing capacity while minimizing deformations. Over the recent decades, extensive research has been conducted to comprehensively understand the behavior of GRS systems. In our research, we initially validate two laboratory tests using finite element (FE) modeling and conduct a parametric study. Our findings demonstrate that increasing the stiffness of layers from the bottom to the top of the wall significantly reduces wall displacements, approaching a state where all layers have uniform stiffness. Additionally, we investigate the plastic zone and the length of geogrids in each layer. Our results indicate that reducing the length of layers from top to bottom, similar to the plastic zone shape, does not impact displacements and forces within the layers. Simultaneously increasing stiffness with height and decreasing geogrid layer lengths within the plastic zone reduces the cost of GRS wall construction.

Opis:
Transportation problem (TP) is a special type of linear programming problem (LPP) where the objective is to minimize the cost of distributing a product from several sources (or origins) to some destinations. This paper addresses a transportation problem in which the costs, supplies, and demands are represented as heptagonal fuzzy numbers. After converting the problem into the corresponding crisp TP using the ranking method, a goal programming (GP) approach is applied for obtaining the optimal solution. The advantage of GP for the decision-maker is easy to explain and implement in real life transportation. The stability set of the first kind corresponding to the optimal solution is determined. A numerical example is given to highlight the solution approach.

Opis:
computational fluid dynamics The performance of the internal flow of the fuel injector is impeded by several factors. The nozzle is one of the factors, being typically about a millimeter long and a fraction of a millimeter in diameter. Cavitation inside the diesel injector nozzle is associated with local pressure distribution. At flow areas with sharp corners, the pressure may locally drop below vapour pressure. The aim of this study is to assess the impact of turbulence and cavitation models on the prediction of flow in diesel injection nozzle. In the present study, an analysis of an existing 6 hole mini-sac diesel injector nozzle is carried out using a CFD package. The main objective of the research is to design a nozzle to avoid cavitation and to find out the contribution of different parameters through parametric study. Cavitation is a complex phenomenon whose appearance depends on the physical as well as flow properties of the flowing substance. Thus, for a better visualization of cavitation, a 3D CFD simulation of mini-sac injector nozzle is carried out. An analysis of a single nozzle hole of a mini-sac diesel injector nozzle is considered for the analysis, as the flow is uniformly distributed through each nozzle. As the three-dimensional geometry of mini-sac nozzle is complicated, therefore tet/hybrid element with T-Grid meshing scheme is used, for good surface meshing. The analysis is carried out at injection pressure of 5 00 bar. The CFDresults are validated against test data with the maximum deviation for the mass flow rate of 8.67% at full needle lift.

Opis:
Rotation capacity is one of the joint parameters needed to be taken into account of the real joint behaviour in a global analysis. It has a special influence on the plastic design of steel frames. The results of the parametric study of the stiffened bolted end-plate beam-to-column connection have been presented in the paper. The main investigated parameters are: thickness of end plate “tp”, horizontal bolt spacing “w” and distance of the bolt to plate edge “cg1”. The analysis was performed with the use of finite element method, based on the numerical experiment plan.

Opis:
The article presents the results of the research conducted within the framework of the project entitled WIND-TU-PLA (ERA-NET, MARTEC II), the general aim of which was to design and analyse supporting structures for wind turbines intended for operation on the South Baltic area. The research part described in the article aimed at developing a preliminary design for a jack-up platform which can operate on water areas with depth of 40 m. The main task was to determine optimal dimensions of platform legs and the radius of their spacing. Two jack-up platform concepts differing by spacing radius and hull dimensions were designed with the intention to be used as a supporting structure for a 6-MW offshore wind turbine. For each concept, the parametric analysis was performed to determine optimal dimensions of platform legs (diameter Dleg and plating thickness tleg). Relevant calculations were performed to assess the movements of the platform with parameters given in Table 1 in conditions simulating the action of the most violent storm in recent 50 years. The obtained results, having the form of amplitudes of selected physical quantities, are shown in comprehensive charts in Fig. 6 and 7. Based on the critical stress values (corresponding to the yield stress), the area was defined in which the impact strength conditions are satisfied (Fig. 14). Then, the fatigue strength analysis was performed for two selected critical leg nodes (Fig. 12). Its results were used for defining the acceptable area with respect to structure’s fatigue (Fig. 14). Geometric parameters were determined which meet the adopted criteria, Table 6. The decisive criterion turned out to be the fatigue strength criterion, while the yield point criterion appeared to be an inactive constraint.

Opis:
The research was attempted to mimic the locomotion of the salamander, which is found to be one of the main animals from an evolutionary point of view. The design of the limb and body was started with the parametric studies of pneumatic network (Pneu-Net). Pneu-Net is a pneumatically operated soft actuator that bends when compressed fluid is passed inside the chamber. Finite Element Analysis software, ANSYS, was used to evaluate the height of the chamber, number of chambers and the gap between chambers for both limb and body of the soft mechanism. The parameters were decided based on the force generated by the soft actuators. The assembly of the salamander robot was then exported to MATLAB for simulating the locomotion of the robot in a physical environment. Sine-based controller was used to simulate the robot model and the fastest locomotion of the salamander robot was identified at 1 Hz frequency, 0.3 second of signal delay for limb actuator and negative π phase difference for every contralateral side of the limbs. Shin-Etsu KE-1603, a hyper elastic material, was used to build the salamander robot and a series of experiments were conducted to record the bending angle, the respective generated force in soft actuators and the gait speed of the robot. The developed salamander robot was able to walk at 0.06774 m/s, following an almost identical pattern to the simulation.
