Opis:
The ferryl derivatives of hemoglobin are products of the reactions of oxy- and methemoglobin with hydrogen peroxide. Ferryl hemoglobins, either with or without a radical site on the protein moiety, are oxidizing species. Plant polyphenols, flavonoids, have been shown to act as antioxidants in vivo and in vitro. Reactions of met- and oxyhemoglobin with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of catechin, quercetin and rutin were studied. These flavonoids accelerated reduction of ferryl hemoglobin to methemoglobin. The rate constants of the reactions of ferryl hemoglobin with catechin, quercetin and rutin were in the order of 102 M-1 s-1, i.e. similar to the rate constants of ferryl hemoglobin with intracellular reducing compounds like urate or ascorbate. The beneficial effect of flavonoids against oxidative damage of hemoglobin caused by hydroperoxides, reported in the literature, is probably, at least in part, connected with the ability of flavonoids to scavenge ferryl hemoglobin.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Opis:
Magnetic Nuclear Resonance (MRI) is a non-invasive tissue imaging method. This technique is based on the influence of a strong magnetic field and electromagnetic wave of strictly defined frequency on the nucleus of elements with non-zero spin. The study describes one of the variants of functional MRI, (fMRI), which has become a key technique in brain imaging. This technique has excellent spatial and temporal resolution and involves a changing signal intensity depending on the degree of oxygenation of the blood. Blood oxygenation levels are known to vary in accordance with neural activity and these differences can be used to detect brain activity. This is due to increased demand for energy and oxygen in the area of increased neural activity. The basis of this imaging is the so-called Blood Oxygenation-Level Dependent (BLOD) effect. The aim of this paper is to present the scope of fMRI as a diagnostic method in neurology and in neurosurgery. This paper presents the principles of fMRI, methods of application, research result development, and suggests areas of possible medical applications. The limitations of fMRI as a clinical tool in medical applications will also be addressed. Studies presented in this paper are based on clinical fMRI experience and a literature review.

Opis:
The purpose of the study was to analyze the combined model of bioheat transfer and oxygen distribution in tissue during exposition to the external heat impulse. The effect of temperature and thermal damage to the tissue on the values of its thermophysical parameters was taken into account. The variable value of the perfusion coefficient affects the blood velocity in the capillary and thus the distribution of the partial oxygen pressure in the tissue. Various models of the oxygen dissociation curves were also considered and a sensitivity analysis was performed for the parameters of the oxygen distribution model. In the numerical realization stage, the finite difference method and the shooting method were used.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to analyze changes in tissue oxygen distribution resulting from temperature changes by the use of the Krogh cylinder model with Michaelis-Menten kinetics. A Hill model was also used to describe the oxyhemoglobin dissociation curve. In particular, variable values of parameters of dissociation curve and blood velocity in capillary were considered. Mathematical description was based on two separate equations for radial and axial directions. An additional task related to determination of the temperature, tissue thermal damage and perfusion was also solved. At the stage of numerical realization, the finite difference method was used.
