Opis:
The article develops M.N. Kozhina’s ideas about the place of “artistic literary language” among functional styles. Esthetic meaning, esthetic evaluation and esthetic experience are understood as communicative phenomena here. Esthetically significant communicative senses are not the prerogative of written texts of belles-lettres. They are the part of the daily life, moreover, they are widely-accepted, well-recognized and necessary. The poetics of human communion is composed of speech acts in which the notional side is identified through complicated (or overcomplicated) organization and requires complicated interpretation, in which inferred senses are not limited to the lexical and grammatical meanings of the language units of which the speech act is composed.Esthetically significant oral dialogic communication may base itself upon senses produced by reading poetry or other pieces of fiction aloud. To the poetics of the human communion also belong language play, dramatized story-telling of the stories, picturesque means of the language employed in daily immediate communication. The poetics of the human communion is not, however, limited to these situations. It covers also situations of meetings, discussions, remarks, single words or even parts of words, intonation, silence, facial gestures which provoke deep deliberation, arouse admiration and nevertheless defy complete calculation and description and are usually lost in the structural language analysis. This phenomenon falls into one of the basic categories of the human language as the poetic function oflanguage which is identified through the correlation of the speech act to the same speech act itself is immanent in every situation of the language use. Every time the esthetically significant communication takes place senses are produced by the form of the speech act. Every time the esthetically significant oral communication takes place the priority also belongs to the form of the act of communication, but now to the communication on the whole: text and situation. By the form of the act of communication we understand all the significant components of the communicative situation including non-verbal ones (especially if the verbal part of the communication is insufficient). The position of M.M.Bakhtin is of principle importance to the author of this article: M.M.Bakhtin understood the attitudes between the speech acts of the immediate dialogue and speech acts of the characters in fiction as primary and secondary speech genres. Both secondary aesthetic speech genres and primary speech genres which have the common verbal nature are the object of aesthetic evaluation. The speech act theory correlates to the poetics of the human communion in the same way as the description of the grammar ofwritten language correlates to literally criticism. However, research of the poetics of human communion is by far more natural, logical and timely extension of the content-orientated trends of contemporary linguistics, than the poetics of written fiction is an extension of the traditional linguistics.Primary analysis of the esthetically significant oral dialogic speech is given in the article.

DIRECT SPEECH INDEPENDENCE (ESTHETIC VS. ONTOLOGICAL SENSE)
ORAL - WRITTEN COMMUNICATION
Opis:
Contrary to the way it functions in literary criticism, the expression of independence of direct speech appears problematic. The notion of oratio recta (which is of interest to linguists, philosophers, theoreticians of communication, textologists and narratologists) was related to the methodology of Maria Renata Mayenowa who considers the monologue to be 'the supreme structure of any literary text'. With regard to the above, it is claimed that the direct speech always complicates the entire composition of a novel. The narration-structure-related direct speech is, as Wojciech Górny rightly observed, direct and independent, because of tradition, and not because of the hierarchy of the communicational pattern of the novel, in which it is the text that introduces the citation which is more independent. On the other hand, Lubomir Dolezel's term 'clear expression', concerning the border between reproduced fictitious dialogues and the narration, indicates that the direct speech is a more narrator-independent structure than the indirect speech or 'erlebte Rede' (E. Lorck). It is also the very expression 'speech' which causes doubts, it was already Boris Eichenbaum who noted that 'a novel is being written and not wrote down'. If we accept Gérard Genette's point of view that dialogues are reproduced in a novel, the impreciseness of this reproduction would need to be underlined, for it is always a translation of codes connected with oral communication into codes specific to written communication, in the form in which the code is specific to the genre in question. However, the right reception of a novel requires the reader to believe that the narrator really lets protagonists speak. The direct speech is thus direct and independent for the reader in the esthetic sense. It would be difficult to defend the independence of the direct speech in the ontological sense.

This study investigates the use of pragmatic markers (PMs) by learners of English at varying proficiency levels. The study analyzes data from a university-level oral proficiency exam that categorized Chinese and Korean English-as-a-second-language (ESL) speakers into four proficiency levels and compares data with those of native speakers taking the same test. Findings indicate that PM use generally rises with proficiency level. The rates of PM use showed a dramatic increase between the highest and second-highest proficiency group. The highest proficiency ESL group used PMs at the same rate as native speakers. The study also found that the variety of different PMs used goes up steadily with proficiency level. These results are discussed in terms of their implications for understanding how second language learners’ use of PMs develops.

The author talks about chosen issues connected with usage of addressing forms in oral religious communication concerning three plains of using addressing forms in communicational situational contacts with the representatives of Catholic and Orthodox Churches: usage of complete ways of expressing addressing in Polish language; usage of names; usage of titles. Those three areas of functioning the addressing forms in oral communication are examined in the framework of different directions of religious communication: clerics–clerics, clerics–parishioners, parishioners–clerics and possibly parishioners–parishioners in communicational situations concerning the life of a parish. Those ways show the types of communicational situations where potentially can be found the sender and the recipient.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to examine which sounds are most often omitted in official oral public performances by native speakers of British English. Such terms as reduction, elision (and its types), and connected speech are explained; the literature cited is concerned with elision of vowels (triphthong smoothing being treated separately), of consonants, and of whole syllables. The study presents the results of an analysis conducted on selected material available on the Internet – this comprises three British English oral performances of the total length of approximately 20 minutes. With regard to the nature of the data, they were divided into scripted, semi-scripted, and unscripted samples. The research has shown that earlier preparation significantly lowers the number of phonetic reduction phenomena. Furthermore, if the speech is given in front of an audience rather than being pre-recorded, the number of reduction phenomena is higher. Besides, the analysis has shown a few important tendencies in modern British pronunciation, such as omission of /t/, realisation of final /t/ as [ʔ], omission of final /t/ in contractions, which therefore are realised as [n] instead of [nt].

Mistakes are often made when an oral corpus is collected and sometimes these mistakes could make impossible a future phonetic analysis of the data. To avoid this happen some advices are proposed in this paper regarded to participants, to recordings, and to available tools in order to build an oral corpus. The purpose of this paper is to advice future researchers in building this kind of corpus. These advices will help them to build an accurate corpus to phonetics analysis following current scientific quality standards.

The study analyses answer given to three questions part of a nationally representative survey on linguistic attitudes towards written grammatical norms. These questions are aimed at gathering information about the possible attitudes of modern Bulgarians towards the magnitude distance between the Bulgarian written standard language and oral speech. Another aim of the study is to explore respondents‘ preferences concerning the question of synchronization between the two existing language forms - written and oral. The survey clearly shows that more than 61% of respondents are of the opinion that the differences between the Bulgarian written and spoken language should be decreased, respectively, there needs to be a process of convergence and equalization of the two language codes. The study applies the hyper-square method in order to explore which socio-demographic factors have a major influence on respondents‘ attitudes. The domineering view (69% of the respondents) is that oral speech should be in line with the Bulgarian written standard language, consequently, grammatical rules should be followed and taken on board when speaking. Finally, the chi-square method is applied when defining the factors which determine the respondents‘ attitudes. The study introduces the idea that conservative attitudes are likely to appear amongst Bulgarian adults as they have the idea of decreasing the differences between the Bulgarian written and oral language by finding a way of synchronizing them.

The authors note that the genre of a funny story from the life of animals reveals its belonging to the Internet communication environment with such properties as the attractiveness of the emotiogenic situation underlying its plot, hypertextual connection within the frame of entertainment sites, forums, and channels of the source text with other narrative texts of the same genre as well as with reactive replicas-comments, where an abbreviated version of this genre is implemented and from whose totality a polylogue is formed as a reflection of the interactivity of Internet communication. The authors state the kinship of the compared genres and pay attention to the prospects of studying the specifics of Internet genres against the background of their non-media counterparts. The research material consists of 40 Internet texts.

The study intended to determine if self-concept predicts senior high school students’ English oral proficiency level. The correlational research design was used to describe the relationship of the variables. Forty (40) students were randomly chosen as a sample from the population. A self-concept questionnaire and an oral proficiency interview were administered. The data were analysed using frequency count, computation of mean, Pearson product-moment correlation, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and simple linear regression analysis. The findings revealed that the respondents have an above-average self-concept in the social and family dimensions. Further study showed that only the physical, psychological, academic, and family dimensions predict oral proficiency in the English language. On the contrary, it was statistically determined that the social dimension does not predict oral proficiency. With the study’s findings, it can be concluded that speech development programmes must be holistic to cater not only the communicative abilities of the students but also their affective domains. It could help improve the quality of English language education in the country in terms of oral proficiency development.

Mowa jest czynnością sekundarną, ponieważ człowiek przystosował do realizacji tej czynności struktury przeznaczone pierwotnie do wykonywania innych – prymarnych – czynności. Rozwój mowy pozostaje więc w ścisłym związku z rozwojem i przebiegiem tych czynności, a motoryka narządów artykulacyjnych kształtuje się stopniowo wraz ze wzrostem i rozwojem dziecka dzięki realizacji i transformacji tych czynności. Niniejsze opracowanie zawiera wybrane wskazówki dla logopedów w zakresie oceny motoryki narządów wykorzystywanych podczas mówienia.
As a secondary function, speech is based on others. The progress of speech is therefore related to the development of the primary functions, and the activity of organs involved in speaking is related to their positions or movements during e.g. breathing or eating. The movements change as the child grows and develops. Moreover, the activity of the organs (proper or improper) affects the organs’ shape (proper or improper). The article was conceived as a tool to analyze the activity of organs involved in speaking to help speech therapists find grounds for their patients’ problems.
