W artykule zaprezentowano podstawowe zagadnienia dotyczące pracy z tzw. systemami informacji prze-strzennej (ang. GIS – Geographic Information Systems) w kontekście ich implementacji przy wykorzysta-niu rozwiązań, jakie obecnie są oferowane w relacyjnych bazach danych. Zademonstrowano rozwiązanie oferowane przez firmę Oracle2 w postaci pakietu o nazwie Oracle Spatial. W drugiej części przedstawio-no przykłady poleceń SQL realizujących typowe zadania w systemach GIS wykorzystujące wybrane funkcje i operatory.
The article presents basic information about work with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) where the focus is placed on implementation of the solutions which are offered by relational databases. The Oracle Spatial package is a part of presentation. The second part of the article contains examples of SQL statements performing typical tasks in GIS systems using selected functions and operators.

The paper presents the characteristics of modern databases in terms of storage and handling mechanisms of multimedia data types. Presents the possibility to build an interactive web applications on the basis of object-oriented relational database that uses multimedia object types available in libraries Oracle Multimedia and JSP programming language. This subject can be successfully used in the teaching the database and programming subjects.

W pracy przedstawiono zastosowanie środowiska maszyn wirtualnych do budowy wirtualnej sieci komputerowej. Realizacje oparto na maszynie wirtualnej Oracle VM VirtualBox. Przedstawiono przykładowe konfiguracje systemowe. Opracowano rozwiązanie umożliwiające zagnieżdżanie maszyn wirtualnych z różnymi systemami operacyjnymi. Zaproponowano użycie wirtualnej sieci komputerowej jako stanowiska uruchomieniowego i testowego usług sieciowych.
This article presents the possibility of building a virtual network environment. All of the presented projects were based on Oracle VM VirtualBox. The tests and examples of system configurations were presented. The embedded solution for virtual machines with different operating systems was developed. The use of virtual network as the system of developing and testing the network services was proposed.

Opis:
The paper presents a new concept of attack on trust and reputation systems. The oracle attack could violate the security provided by some of the existing reputation systems. The formal model of the attack is presented in the article on the base of the reference trust model, provided bythe author. The author has proved that this type of attack could be eficient. On the other hand,a sort of measures is provided in the paper which could be implemented in the reputation systems to overcome identified vulnerabilities, unfortunately at the cost of increase of system complication.The paper also provides a definition of intelligent strategies of attacks on trust and reputation systems based on cooperation of many malicious nodes and justifies why this type of attacks is a serious threat.

The oracle procedure employed in the sacral complex of Zeus Ammon in Siwa oasis apparently did not differ from that of the standard Egyptian barque procession. This procession, taking place during the god's symbolic journey from Aghurmi to the Umm Ubayda temple, during which questions were asked and answers received, was open to all pilgrims. Archaeological finds, as well as literary tradition concerning Alexander the Great's visit, suggest the possibility of private consultation: viz., a 'king's oracle' following a different, unknown ritual.

Opis:
Science means here mathematics and those empirical disciplines which avail themselves of mathematical models. The pragmatic approach is conceived in Karl R. Popper’s The Logic of Scientific Discovery (p. 276) sense: a logical appraisal of the success of a theory amounts to the appraisal of its corroboration. This kind of appraisal is exemplified in section 6 by a case study—on how Isaac Newton justified his theory of gravitation. The computational approach in problem-solving processes consists in considering them in terms of computability: either as being performed according to a model of computation in a narrower sense, e.g., the Turing machine, or in a wider perspective—of machines associated with a non-mechanical device called “oracle” by Alan Turing (1939). Oracle can be interpreted as computertheoretic representation of intuition or invention. Computational approach in another sense means considering problem-solving processes in terms of logical gates, supposed to be a physical basis for solving problems with a reasoning. Pragmatic rationalism about science, seen at the background of classical rationalism (Descartes, Gottfried Leibniz etc.), claims that any scientific idea, either in empirical theories or in mathematics, should be checked through applications to problem-solving processes. Both the versions claim the existence of abstract objects, available to intellectual intuition. The difference concerns the dynamics of science: (i) the classical rationalism regards science as a stationary system that does not need improvements after having reached an optimal state, while (ii) the pragmatical version conceives science as evolving dynamically due to fertile interactions between creative intuitions, or inventions, with mechanical procedures. The dynamics of science is featured with various models, like Derek J. de Solla Price’s exponential and Thomas Kuhn’s paradigm model (the most familiar instances). This essay suggests considering Turing’s idea of oracle as a complementary model to explain most adequately, in terms of exceptional inventiveness, the dynamics of mathematics and mathematizable empirical sciences.

Artykuł przedstawia historię powstania Oraculum w Morysinie - miejscu ściśle związanym z Wilanowem. Rola, jaką spełniało Oraculum, znana była tylko niewielkiej grupie badaczy, także ze względu na zniszczenie obiektu oraz zapomnienie, w jakie popadło po ostatniej wojnie światowej. W sierpniu 2006 r. podjęto trud przeniesienia ocalałych elementów kamiennych Oraculum (Wyroczni) z Morysina do ogrodów Muzeum Pałacu w Wilanowie. Opracowano projekt rekonstrukcji kręgu wróżebnego. Na podstawie udostępnionych materiałów archiwalnych oraz inwentaryzacji zachowanych elementów kamiennych odtworzono jego wymiary. Uratowane fragmenty jedynego zachowanego w Polsce kręgu kamiennego Oraculum, oddają charakter miejsca działania wróżb, przepowiedni i rodzenia się nadziei na zmianę losów narodu polskiego tak charakterystycznych dla epoki romantyzmu. Dla żony Stanisława Kostki Potockiego - Aleksandry Lubomirskiej, 65-letniej wdowy, była to astrologiczna "mandala życia" spędzonego u boku męża, symboliczny pomnik czasów, kiedy kobiety, „matki Polki”, interesowały się ukrytymi znaczeniami, astrologią, wróżbami i kabałą. The article presents the history of erecting the Oraculum in Morysin . a place closely connected with Wilanow. The function of the Oraculum was known only to a select group of scientists, because of the ruined state of the object and oblivion into which it sank after World War II. In August 2006, the remaining stone elements of the Oraculum (the Oracle) were transferred from Morysin to the gardens of the Palace Museum in Wilanow. A reconstruction project of the prophetic circle was prepared. The size was recreated on the basis of available archive materials and the inventory of the preserved stone elements. The remaining fragments of the only stone circle of Oraculum preserved in Poland reflect the character of the site serving to dispense prophecies and predictions and the birthplace of hope for the change of fate of the Polish nation, so characteristic for the era of Romanticism. For Aleksandra Lubomirska - the 65-year-old widow of Stanisław Kostka Potocki, it was an astrological “mandala of life” spent by her husband’s side, a symbolic monument of the times when women, “Polish mothers”, were particularly interested in hidden meanings, astrology, prophecies and Qabalah.

L’autore del IV Oracolo sibllino è legato alla diaspora ebrea. Il messaggio di quella opera è la chiamata alla conversione rivolta verso i pagani che conducono la vita empia. Sibilla – stigmatizzando le credenze pagane – indica la via che porta alla conoscenza del Dio vero. Di fronte alla fine che si avvicina, solo il sincero rivolgersi al Dio Creatore può portare uno alla salvezza.

The aim of the present paper is to discuss Socrates’ idea of philosophy asa service to the god. First the article investigates why Chaerephon wentto Delphi and why he asked Pythia the famous question concerningSocrates. The investigation provides a basis for distinguishing two majorperiods in his activity. The one preceding the Delphic oracle consists inconducting inquiries in a group of closest friends. The one following theDelphic oracle consist in addressing a much larger audience. An analysisof both periods suggests that the oracle from Delphi greatly affectedSocrates’ relations with other Athenians. While the present article dealsalso with the issue of Socrates’ daimonion, it hypothesizes that the voiceof daimonion and the voice of Pythia could be regarded as Apollo’sinterventions.

Schöning and Ko respectively introduced the concepts of helping and one-side-helping, and then defined new operators, Phelp(•) and P1-help(•), acting on classes of sets C and returning classes of sets Phelp(C) and P1-help(C). A number of results have been obtained on this subject, principally devoted to understanding how wide the Phelp(C) and P1-help(C) classes are. For example, it seems that the Phelp(•) operator contracts NP ∩ coNP}, while the P1-help(•) operator enlarges UP. To better understand the relative power of P1-help(•) versus Phelp(•) we propose to search, for every relativizable class D containing P, the largest relativizable class C containing P such that for every oracle B PBhelp(CB)? PB1-help(DB). In the following paper: Cintioli P. and Silvestri R. 1997 Inf. Proc. Let. 61 189, it has been observed that Phelp(UP ∩ coUP)= P1-help(UP ∩ coUP), and this is true in any relativized world. In this paper we consider the case of D=UP ∩ coUP and demonstrate the existence of an oracle A for which PAhelp(UPA2 ∩ coUPA2) is not contained in PA1-help(UPA ∩ coUPA). We also prove that for every integer k ≥ 2 there exists an oracle A such that PAhelp(UPAk ∩ coUPAk) ? UPAk.

The Oracle of Zeus at Dodona was arguably the most ancient of Greek oracles. Throughout at least the later part of its existence it was in competition with the Oracle of Apollo at Delphi, which made increasing inroads into the authority of this most ancient of oracles. The fount of oracular wisdom at Dodona was an oak tree sacred to Zeus. Trees are natural objects which have a life and die. This article seeks to establish a date for the death of the oak tree at Dodona, and to investigate what affect this had on the perceived ‘competition’ from Delphi.

Omówiona została również koncepcja tożsamości kodu źródłowego aplikacji.
This publication discusses the leading solutions for code signing systems such as Microsoft Authenticode, Oracle Java Code Signing and Apple Codesign. All systems were compared to each other in aspects such as digital signature structure, its generation and verification. A special attention was given to an issue of code identity.
