Opis:
The presented problem consists in optimizing the pulling force of the luffing jib tower cranes, in order to reduce power and save energy by determining reasonable geometrical parameters such as placement of pulley assemblies, position of jib pin, and jib length. To determine the optimal parameters, a mechanical model was developed to calculate the pulling force of the research object. Then, the Taguchi method and Minitab software were applied to evaluate the influence of the parameters. The objective function was the minimum pulling force of the luffing jib. The calculation results show that the position of the pulley assembly used to pull the jib is the most influential factor on the objective function accounting for 81.15%, the less significant factors are the jib length, the pin position of the jib, and the pulley assembly that changes the direction of the load lifting cable. The result of the test presented in the article allowed for determining the rational parameters, and the optimal position of the pulley assemblies on the top of the crane. In the case of the pulley assembly located at the top of the crane, one obtains the optimal height of the crane head H≈0.4 L c.

Opis:
In this work, we present optimal control formulation and numerical algorithm for fractional order discrete time singular system (DTSS) for fixed terminal state and fixed terminal time endpoint condition. The performance index (PI) is in quadratic form, and the system dynamics is in the sense of Riemann-Liouville fractional derivative (RLFD). A coordinate transformation is used to convert the fractional-order DTSS into its equivalent non-singular form, and then the optimal control problem (OCP) is formulated. The Hamiltonian technique is used to derive the necessary conditions. A solution algorithm is presented for solving the OCP. To validate the formulation and the solution algorithm, an example for fixed terminal state and fixed terminal time case is presented.

Opis:
The Firefly Algorithm (FA) is employed to determine the optimal parameter settings in a case study of the osmotic dehydration process of mushrooms. In the case, the functional form of the dehydration model is established through a response surface technique and the resulting mathematical programming is formulated as a non-linear goal programming model. For optimization purposes, a computationally efficient, FA-driven method is used and the resulting optimal process parameters are shown to be superior to those from previous approaches. The final section of this study provides a computational experimentation performed on the FA to analyze its relative sensitivity over a range of the two key parameters that most influence its running time.

Opis:
The problem of improving the voltage profile and reducing power loss in electrical networks must be solved in an optimal manner. This paper deals with comparative study of Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Differential Evolution (DE) based algorithm for the optimal allocation of multiple FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission System) devices in an interconnected power system for the economic operation as well as to enhance loadability of lines. Proper placement of FACTS devices like Static VAr Compensator (SVC), Thyristor Controlled Switched Capacitor (TCSC) and controlling reactive generations of the generators and transformer tap settings simultaneously improves the system performance greatly using the proposed approach. These GA & DE based methods are applied on standard IEEE 30 bus system. The system is reactively loaded starting from base to 200% of base load. FACTS devices are installed in the different locations of the power system and system performance is observed with and without FACTS devices. First, the locations, where the FACTS devices to be placed is determined by calculating active and reactive power flows in the lines. GA and DE based algorithm is then applied to find the amount of magnitudes of the FACTS devices. Finally the comparison between these two techniques for the placement of FACTS devices are presented.

Opis:
Pośrednie metody ankietowania stanowią podstawowe narzędzie stosowane w przypadku pytań drażliwych. Artykuł nawiązuje do nowej, pośredniej metody zaproponowanej w pracy Tiana i wsp.
Indirect methods of questioning are of utmost importance when dealing with sensitive questions. This paper refers to the new indirect method introduced by Tian et al. (2014) and examines the optimal allocation of the sample to control and treatment groups. If determining the optimal allocation is based on the variance formula for the method of moments (difference in means) estimator of the sensitive proportion, the solution is quite straightforward and was given in Tian et al. (2014). However, maximum likelihood (ML) estimation is known from much better properties, therefore determining the optimal allocation based on ML estimators has more practical importance. This problem is nontrivial because in the Poisson item count technique the study sensitive variable is a latent one and is not directly observable. Thus ML estimation is carried out by using the expectation‑maximisation (EM) algorithm and therefore an explicit analytical formula for the variance of the ML estimator of the sensitive proportion is not obtained. To determine the optimal allocation of the sample based on ML estimation, comprehensive Monte Carlo simulations and the EM algorithm have been employed.

Opis:
The main aim of the paper is improved dynamic vibration absorbers (DVA) design, taking into account the complex rotating machines dynamics. It is often impossible to balance the rotating elements so as to reduce the vibration to an acceptable level. The paper considers the provision of DVA or number of such DVA. Such originally designed DVA reduces vibration selectively in the maximum mode of vibration without introducing vibration in other modes. The result is achieved at a far lower expense than would be required to replace the concrete and steel foundation with a more massive one. By installing DVA, one can minimize excitation virtually at the source. In order to be more effective, a vibration absorption system should react in all the frequency domains. The present absorber also has as an advantage that it can be constructed so that it has a wide-range vibration absorption property. This construction allows for an easy connection of the above rotor equipment. In order to determine the optimal parameters of DVA, the complete modeling of the rotating machine dynamics is obvious. The two degrees of freedom model are totally inadequate to accurately calculate the vibration frequencies of the construction and therefore, for a sufficiently accurate determination of its dimensional characteristics so as to determine such frequencies. It is therefore necessary in practice to dimension the construction through more complex modeling. In particular, concentrated mass and rigidity calculation methods may be adopted based on an even more accurate theoretical determination. The numerical schemes (NS) row is considered for the complex vibration-excited constructions. Methods of decomposition and the NS synthesis are considered on the basis of new methods of modal synthesis. Complex NS are obtained of discretely-continua type, which enables in the adaptive mode to calculate tension not only in the continuum elements, but in the places of the most tension concentration in joints. Traditional design methodology, based on discontinuous models of structures and machines is not effective for high frequency vibration. The present research develops a modern prediction and control methodology, based on complex continuum theory and application of special frequency characteristics of structures. Complex continuum theory allows to take into consideration system anisotropy, supporting structure strain effect on equipment motions and to determine some new effects that are not described by ordinary mechanics of the continuum theory. The absorbers in accordance with this paper may be applied not only to electric machines ore aeronautic structures, but also to any other type of vibration-excited structure, such as cars, chisel installation, optical, magneto-optical disks, washing machines, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, etc.
