Opis:
The article discusses a method of assessing the of dependence of the number of batteries that would be needed to achieve energy balance in distributed generation systems with wind turbines on ambient temperature and on the error involved in predicting the parameters of wind flow (wind speed). To describe the relationship between current rate and capacity in a given current range, Peukert’s law is used. Dependence of the Peukert's constant on ambient temperature for the lead-acid battery HZB12-180FA is calculated. Taking the lead-acid battery and wind turbine VE-2 as a reference, dependence of area of controlled operation of the battery on the wind speed forecasting error is calculated. The technique of considering ambient temperature, depth of discharge, and wind speed forecasting error when deciding the size of energy storage of the balancing system (the number of batteries and their capacity) is provided. A family of curves representing the dependence of the number of batteries constituting the balancing system on the ambient temperature and the wind speed forecasting error are presented. It is shown that as the wind speed forecasting error increases from 0% to 15% and the ambient temperature decreases from 20 °C to 20 °C, the number of batteries should be increased by approximately 2.81 times in order to maintain the same area of controlled operation of a battery.

Opis:
A method for a sizing of an electromechanical battery for electrical go-kart was presented in the paper. The main goal of this research was to replace the internal combustion (IC) engine by an electric drive system taking into account the traction properties, on the one hand and the duration of operation on a single charge and the number of the battery life cycles on the other. The proposed method permits an entire depreciation of the price of the vehicle before the degradation of the battery occurs. The results of the study have been used to adjust the source for electric go-karts that will be mass produced.

Opis:
This paper presents the optimal sizing of PV/Wind/Fuel Cell/Battery Hybrid Energy System for energizing a Small Scale Industrial Application or a village domestic load of 200 kW. HOMER software is used for simulation of the complete system. The solar radiation data and wind speed data used in this paper are for the place of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India which is located 11.0183° N longitude and 76.9725° E latitude. The optimized sizes of components of Hybrid Power System (HPS) are found based on Levelised Cost of Energy (LCE) and total Net Present Cost (NPC). The results are presented and compared for five different combinations of HPS components. Suggestions are also presented to choose the low cost system which produces energy at low LCE.

Opis:
This paper presents an application of Cuckoo search algorithm to determine optimal location and sizing of Static VAR Compensator. Cuckoo search algorithm is a modern heuristic technique basing Cuckoo species’ parasitic strategy. The L´evy flight has been employed to generate random Cuckoo eggs. Moreover, the objective function is a multiobjective problem, which minimizes loss power, voltage deviation and investment cost of Static VAR Compensator while satisfying other operating constraints in power system. Cuckoo search algorithm is evaluated on three case studies and compared with the Teaching-learning-based optimization, Particle Swarm optimization and Improved Harmony search algorithm. The results show that Cuckoo search algorithm is better than other optimization techniques and its performance is also better.

Opis:
The paper includes a summary and a background of long-time research conducted by a research team in the Institute of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at SilesianUniversity of Technology. The researchwork has principally been related to selected problems in the field of analysis and synthesis of systems aimed at symmetrisation and improvement of some power quality parameters. This paper constitutes a first part of the report on the research. It has been devoted to effective elimination of higher harmonics and reactive power compensation by means of parallel active power filters. The other problem discussed in this paper is related to this issue and it is very important from the economic point of view; it addresses optimal sizing and placement of active power filters in investigated power networks.

Opis:
Nowadays the demand for renewable energy sources is constantly growing. There are several reasons of such state, including requirements for energy-efficient new buildings and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. An exemplary solution that may help to reduce “traditional” primary energy consumption is local energy source utilization. The article presents a simplified feasibility study of hybrid energy system under Polish law and economic conditions for a self-government unit, that is legally obliged to apply means of energy efficiency improvement. The aim of this paper is to provide a simple algorithm to find optimal hybrid PV and wind power source sizing for a prosumer. Resource data used in analyses are imported from Photovoltaic Geographical Information System and cover a period of one year. The paper includes two different methodologies applied to solve the problem of optimal hybrid energy system sizing. The first approach is heuristic and based on monthly energy balancing while the second is iterative and takes into account hourly energy balance. The results from both methods are compared and verified by HomerPro software, that shows significant differences between two algorithms. At the end economic assessment based on Net Present Value method is performed.
