Opis:
The modern family faces a variety of ever-changing circumstances which greatly inhibit the selection of clearly defined roles or behaviours that might bring about the good of the whole family. The article describes three models which regulate the roles adopted by individuals within the family. The text defines the optimal method of role creation and selection as one which allows for the simultaneous consideration of not only the variety of possibilities, but also the needs of all family members.

Opis:
This work considers a population divided into two groups according to the adoption of contraception. The campaign in favour of contraception is modelled as a bounded optimal control problem within the framework of the logistic and the Malthusian models of population dynamics. The control is the fraction of non-adopters successfully educated on contraception. The objective is to maximise the number of non-adopters successfully educated on contraception over time. The optimisation problem is solved using the Pontryagin's maximum principle and the parameters of the model are estimated using the method of least squares.

Opis:
The paper deals with the problem of recovery of continuous relaxation spectrum from discrete-time noise corrupted measurements of relaxation modulus obtained in stress relaxation test. A new robust identification algorithm is discussed in which the best smoothing of the model is achieved together with simultaneous interpolation of the relaxation modulus measurements. It is proved that the smoothing of the resulting relaxation spectrum model depends both on the proper selection of the measurement points as well as on the experiment results. It is also proved that the accuracy of the spectrum approximation depends linearly on measurement noises. A useful modification of the scheme is proposed for the case when the equilibrium stress modulus is non-zero and simple recursive formula is derived. The method is general enough to cover both viscoelastic solids and liquids. The effectiveness of the method is demonstrated through the computation of the relaxation spectrum of the beet sugar root sample in the state of the uniaxial strain.

The classical constraints used in phonological theory apply to a single candidate at a time. Yet, some proposals in the phonological literature have enriched the classical constraint toolkit with constraints that instead apply to multiple candidates simultaneously. For instance, Dispersion Theory (Flemming 2002, 2004, 2008) adopts distinctiveness constraints that penalize pairs of surface forms which are not sufficiently dispersed. Also, some approaches to paradigm uniformity effects (Kenstowicz 1997; McCarthy 2005) adopt Optimal Paradigm faithfulness constraints that penalize pairs of stems in a paradigm which are not sufficiently similar. As a consequence, these approaches need to “lift” the classical constraints from a single candidate to multiple candidates by summing constraint violations across multiple candidates. Is this assumption of constraint summation typologically innocuous? Or do the classical constraints make different typological predictions when they are summed, independently of the presence of distinctiveness or optimal paradigm faithfulness constraints? The answer depends on the underlying model of constraint optimization, namely on how the profiles of constraint violations are ordered to determine the smallest one. Extending an independent result by Prince (2015), this paper characterizes those orderings for which the assumption of constraint summation is typologically innocuous. As a corollary, the typological innocuousness of constraint summation is established within both Optimality Theory and Harmonic Grammar.

The value of each state variable (physical condition, sport scores) at the end of certain period is a function of general state of the athlete, his scores described at the beginning of this period of time and adapted training, that is implemented intensity of separate training means (controlling variables) in the analyzed time period. The aim of this work was to determine optimal values of control in swimmer training, targeted at achieving the best score in 25 m and 800 m swimming. For this purpose a model was developed, beginning with its shape (it has been defined, what is state variable and what is control, how the state variables and control variables influence the increase) to determining numerical values of all parameters. The basis for the development of the detailed model was pedagogic experiment conducted on the group of 14-year old boys. Conclusions were drawn on the practical possibility of using a mathematical model in control of sport training.

The paper explores some aspects of the minimal student education. What attracts one's attention are: the dyad encompassing the academic teacher and the minimal student; and the triad encompassing the academic teacher, the minimal student and the educational institution. The hypothesis orchestrating this study, preliminary as it is, contains the assumption that the minimal learner profile disturbs both relations, bringing about the violation of the educational process. As a result, the methodological verification of the teaching procedures, as well as the psycholinguistic awareness raising process, have to be introduced if the minimal student education is to be continued.

Markowitz was the first to introduce the concept of portfolio risk, which in general risk can be reduced by combining multiple assets into a portfolio or so-called diversification. This research was conducted to analyze the optimal portfolio of foreign exchange investment in order to make investments give maximum return and certain risk that is obtained optimally. Based on the results of the research of the four currencies used as sample analysis, the four currencies can form as optimal portfolio of CHF, CNY, GBP and JYP, while the highest rate of return using portfolio theory is in Chinese Yuan (CNY) by 71%. The expected return of the currency is dominating compared to other foreign currencies.

Opis:
Celem pracy jest zaprezentowanie idei metod filtracji opartych na sekwencyjnej metodzie Monte Carlo, w literaturze nazywanych również metodami filtru cząsteczkowego oraz odniesienia do odpowiedniej literatury. Istotę omawianych algorytmów przedstawiamy rozważając problem estymacji silnie nieliniowych i niegaussowskich modeli przestrzeni stanów. W praktyce bowiem w takich przypadkach dobrze znany i najczęściej wykorzystywany algorytm rozszerzonego filtru Kalmana (ang. Extended Kalman Filter, EKF) może wykazywać istotną nieefektywność. Idea filtru cząsteczkowego polega na estymacji rozkładu prawdopodobieństwa rozkładem empirycznym wyznaczonym na podstawie cząsteczek, tzw. „chmury punktów”. Zaimplementowanie algorytmu filtru cząsteczkowego wymaga zasadniczo przeprowadzenia trzech procedur: (1) losowania cząsteczek z odpowiednio dobranej sekwencyjnej funkcji ważności, (2) określenia istotności cząsteczek, (3) powtórnego losowania, tzw. resampling. Metody te są coraz bardziej popularnew dziedzinie ekonomii, statystyki, medycynie i teorii sygnałów.
This paper provides an introduction to the field of sequential Monte Carlo methods which are also known as particle filters methods. The best known algorithm to solve the problem of non-linear non-Gaussian filtering is the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) but in settings where the dynamics are significantly non-linear or the noise intensities are high, the EKF can perform quite poorly. Particle filtering methods are powerful tools for online estimation and tracking in nonlinear and non-Gaussian dynamical systems. The basic idea is to approximate the transition probability density function by a discrete cloud of points, called particles. They commonly consistof three steps:(1) drawing samples in the state-space of the system,(2) computing proper importance weights of each sample and(3) resampling. These methods are becoming increasingly popular in economics and finance so the objective of this paper is to explain the basic assumptions of the methodology and provide references to relevant literature.

Opis:
In this paper, we developed a transportation model for dietary allocation to reduce the risk of overweight and obesity. Our interest was on macronutrients such as carbohydrate, fat and oil and protein diets. These diets are the chief supplier of calories used by the body to perform its metabolic activities. The maximum cost method was used to determine the optimal calories per week from the intake of high fat diet and we found that the calorie required is 478.8 Kcal and average daily required intake is 68.4 Kcal. Again, the least cost method was used to determine the optimal calories per week from the intake of low carbohydrate diet and we found that the calorie required is 681.7 Kcal and average daily required intake is 97.4 Kcal. Comparing the calories from both diets, we conclude that consumption of diet with high fat produce less calories, and hence should reduce the risk of overweight and obesity compared to the consumption of carbohydrate diet even in low quantity. Since calorie is calorie irrespective of its source, we recommend taking high fat diet than taking low carbohydrate diet to reduce the risk of overweight and obesity. The determined daily calories are the minimum calories required by the body to maintain its metabolic activities, more of it will lead to excess and accumulation in the body which will lead to overweight and obesity.

Opis:
Due to the ever-increasing economic globalization, the scale of transportation through ports and waterways has increased sharply. As the capacity of maritime infrastructure in ports and inland waterways is limited, it is important to simulate vessel behavior to balance safety and capacity in restricted waterways. Currently many existing vessel simulation models focus mainly on vessel dynamics and maritime traffic in the open ocean. These models are, however, inapplicable to simulating vessel behavior in ports and inland waterways, because behavior in such areas can be influenced by many factors, such as waterway geometry, external conditions and human factors. To better simulate vessel behavior in ports and waterways, we developed a new maritime traffic model by adapting the theory of pedestrian models. This new model comprises two parts: the Route Choice Model and the Operational Model. The Route Choice Model has been demonstrated and calibrated in our recent study, in which the desired speed is generated. This paper presents the second part of the model, the Operational Model, which describes vessel behavior based on optimal control by using the output of the Route Choice Model. The calibration of the Operational Model is carried out as well. In the Operational Model, the main behavioral assumption is that all actions of the bridge team, such as accelerating and turning, are executed to force the vessel to sail with the desired speed and course. In the proposed theory, deviating from the desired speed and course, accelerating, decelerating and turning will provide disutility (cost) to the vessel. By predicting and minimizing this disutility, longitudinal acceleration and angular acceleration can be optimized. This way, the Operational Model can be used to predict the vessel speed and course. Automatic Identification System (AIS) data of unhindered vessel behavior in the Port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands, were used to calibrate the Operational Model. The calibration results produced plausible parameter values that minimized the objective function. The paths generated with these optimal parameters corresponded reasonably well to the actual paths.

A speed-density model can be utilised to efficiently flow pedestrians in a network. However, how each model measures and optimises the performance of the network is rarely reported. Thus, this paper analyses and optimises the flow in a topological network using various speed-density models. Each model was first used to obtain the optimal arrival rates to all individual networks. The optimal value of each network was then set as a flow constraint in a network flow model. The network flow model was solved to find the optimal arrival rates to the source networks. The optimal values were then used to measure their effects on the performance of each available network. The performance results of the model were then compared with that of other speed-density models. The analysis of the results can help decision-makers understand how arrival rates propagate through traffic and determine the level of the network throughputs.

Opis:
Control strategies for nonlinear dynamical systems often make use of special system properties, which are, for example, differential flatness or exact input-output as well as input-to-state linearizability. However, approaches using these properties are unavoidably limited to specific classes of mathematical models. To generalize design procedures and to account for parameter uncertainties as well as modeling errors, an interval arithmetic approach for verified simulation of continuoustime dynamical system models is extended. These extensions are the synthesis, sensitivity analysis, and optimization of open-loop and closed-loop controllers. In addition to the calculation of guaranteed enclosures of the sets of all reachable states, interval arithmetic routines have been developed which verify the controllability and observability of the states of uncertain dynamic systems. Furthermore, they assure asymptotic stability of controlled systems for all possible operating conditions. Based on these results, techniques for trajectory planning can be developed which determine reference signals for linear and nonlinear controllers. For that purpose, limitations of the control variables are taken into account as further constraints. Due to the use of interval techniques, issues of the functionality, robustness, and safety of dynamic systems can be treated in a unified design approach. The presented algorithms are demonstrated for a nonlinear uncertain model of biological wastewater treatment plants.
