    The recent global economic crisis has caused an uncertain and challenging business environment and has battered managements that are running businesses all over the world. This paper focuses on new capabilities that can be used successfully in a fast changing business environment for improving firms’ efficiency. This research utilizes constructive approach including interviews and case studies. The relevant findings of the study are the elements of the key success factors: entrepreneurial strategy, R&D to market performance, dynamic operational excellence and innovativeness with links to the key actions which have led to new business model called dynamic business model (DBC). This research focuses on power electronics business industry which at the same time is a limitation. This research helps directors and managers to think more widely and make better decisions for the success of the company. This research results bring additional value of the previous studies regarding a firm’s key success factors and dynamic capabilities.

    Higher education institutions (HEIs) typically generate income from two main sources; student fees and research income. In contrast, the predominant waste streams in HEIs tend to include; (1) assignment/examination mark submission process, (2) photocopying process and (3) the funding application process. Unintended internal process complexities and barriers typically aggravate the challenges already inherent in the research grant application process. Although Lean Six Sigma (LSS) has been adopted by a number of HEIs in Ireland, very few have adopted an integrated LSS approach for waste reduction in the research grant application process. To identify barriers and waste in the research grant application process within an Irish HEI in an EU environment, the authors used an online survey deployed to 240 academics and researchers. The survey response rate was 13%. The participating HEI in this pilot study generated an annual income (including student fees and research income) exceeding €240 million for the academic year 2017/2018. Using an LSS lens, this paper identified the primary waste in the research grant application process from an academic and researcher perspective to be; editing and revising applications, liaising and communicating with collaborators and waiting for information. Organised thematically, the main barriers were strategic thinking, collaborator identification and co-ordination, eligibility, process, time and support & mentoring. The results from this study can be used to inform the next stage of the research where empirical studies will be carried out in other HEIs to develop a practical roadmap for the implementation of LSS as an operational excellence improvement methodology in the research grant application process.

    Celem artykułu jest sformułowanie odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy metodyka DMAIC stosowana w jednej ze strategii doskonalenia - podejściu six sigma, spełnia kryteria sprawnego, w ujęciu prakseologicznym, cyklu zorganizowanego działania. Autor przeprowadził przegląd literatury źródłowej z obszaru podejścia six sigma oraz prakseologicznej teorii zarządzania. Analiza porównawcza doprowadziła do sformułowania tezy o spełnianiu wymagań prakseologicznego cyklu działania zorganizowanego przez metodykę DMAIC. Metodyka DMAIC może być stosowana jako strategia podnoszenia sprawności procesów, wywierając istotny wpływ na racjonalność metodologiczną podejmowanej aktywności. Jest ona utylitarnym cyklem racjonalnego działania w podnoszeniu sprawności organizacji.
    The aim of the article is to answer the question whether the DMAIC methodology used in one of the improvement strategies – the six sigma approach, meets the criteria of an efficient, praxeological, organised action cycle. The author reviewed the source literature in the area of the six sigma approach and praxeological management theory. The conducted comparative analysis leads to the formulation of the thesis that the DMAIC methodology meets the requirements of an efficient cycle of organised activity. The DMAIC methodology can be used as a strategy of increasing the operational efficiency of business processes, exerting a significant influence on the methodological rationality of the undertaken activity. The DMAIC methodology is a utilitarian cycle of rational actions aimed at increasing the efficiency of the process organisation.

    Due to globalized business operations, companies in different economic sectors are part of complex supply chain networks. Their value-added processes comprise product and information flows, e.g. with a focus on manufacturing, service or trade. Until the final product is delivered to the end customer, it needs to pass many different processes in cooperating organizations. As a result, there a lot of business-to-business (B2B) interactions with crossenterprise transactions, often including cross-border communications and sometimes even cross-industry trades with technological and often cultural implications. Especially the interfaces of supply chain networks are prone to inefficiencies, misunderstandings and delays due to a lack of standardized B2B transactions, which leads to waste in form of rework, errors and mistakes. In addition, new customers are hard to find for the manufacturing or trading company, since potential customers are so far limited to a regional network. The advantages of extending the customer base still need to be explored by many organizations. This paper discusses the opportunities by streamlining the communication along supply chain networks in a general fashion and then describes the application in a B2B automotive retail business. A concept of a web-based trading platform, which provides a seamless service for all steps of a convenient and efficient used vehicle remarketing business, is developed. It includes all phases, like offering and price finding in a comprehensive online platform, which also covers further activities, such as logistic services, financial transactions, and a mandatory feedback loop. The suggested B2B vehicle-trading platform enables a quick turnover of each transaction, which is analyzed and optimized based on the application of cross-enterprise Value Stream Management.

    Мета дослідження/Дослідницьке питання. Здійснення проектів з поліпшення бізнес-процесів компанії – пріоритет у всіх галузях промисловості в кожній країні. Багато компаній створили спеціалізовані підрозділи для розробки директив по створенню процесів, їх документації та впровадження, а також для подальшого поліпшення їх ефективності. Не дивлячись на те, що ці компанії постійно працюють над вдосконаленням своїх процесів, вони часто не можуть дати відповідь на питання про поточний стан і зрілість своїх процесів (process maturity). Тому мета цієї роботи – охарактеризувати методологію, застосування, проблеми та переваги аналізу зрілості процесів. Дизайн / Метод / Підхід дослідження. Це дослідження засновано на змішаному методі аналізу (mixed method analysis), застосованому в банку середнього розміру в Німеччині. Результати дослідження. Чітко визначенно переваги вимірювання рівня зрілості процесів компанії. Виявлено істотні теоретичні прогалини, такі, як, наприклад, брак розуміння інновації процесів у існуючих моделях зрілості процесів. Обмеження дослідження. Очевидний обмежуючий фактор –аналіз даних здійснено тільки за однією специфічною компанією фінансового сектора. Теоретичне значення дослідження. З точки зору теорії критичним фактором є вибір відповідної моделі з ряду існуючих на даний момен моделей зрілості процесів. Практично – вибір моделі впливає на зібрані дані, подальшу їх інтерпретацію та на висновки, які для себе зробить компанія. Оригінальність/Цінність/Наукова новизна дослідження. Оригінальність дослідження полягає у тому, що запропоновано підхід до оцінки зрілості процесів, який базується на обробці та аналізі емпіричних даних, і зроблено низку висновків для теорії і практики. Крім цього, його застосування дозволяє показати вплив зрілості процесів на сприйняття результативності роботи компанії.  Тип статті – емпірична.
    Цель исследования/Исследовательский вопрос. Осуществление проектов по улучшению бизнес-процессов компании – приоритет во всех отраслях промышленности в каждой стране. Многие компании создали специализированные подразделения для разработки директив по созданию процессов, их документации и внедрению, а также для дальнейшего улучшения их эффективности. Не смотря на постоянную  работу компаний над совершенствованием своих процессов, они часто не могут дать ответ на вопрос о текущем состоянии и зрелости своих процессов (process maturity). Поэтому цель этой работы – охарактеризовать методологию, применимость, проблемы и преимущества анализа зрелости процессов. Дизайн / Метод / Подход исследования. Данное исследование основано на смешанном методе анализа (mixed method analysis), примененном в банке среднего размера в Германии. Результаты исследования. Четко определены преимущества измерения уровня зрелости процессов компании. Выявлены существенные теоретические пробелы, такие как, например, недостаток понимания инновации процессов в существующих моделях зрелости процессов. Ограничения исследования. Очевидный ограничивающий фактор – анализ данных проведен только по одной специфической компании финансового сектора. Теоретическое значение исследования. С точки зрения теории критическим фактором является выбор подходящей модели из ряда существующих на данный момент моделей зрелости процессов. Практически – выбор модели влияет на собранные данные, последующую их интерпретацию и на выводы, которые для себя сделает компания. Оригинальность/Ценность/Научная новизна исследования. Оригинальность исследования заключается в том, что предложен подход к оценке зрелости процессов, который основан на обработке и анализе эмпирических данных, и сделанны выводы для теории и практики. Помимо этого его применение позволяет показать влияние зрелости процессов на восприятие результативности работы компании.  Тип статьи – эмпирическая.
    Purpose. Conducting projects to improve a company’s business processes is of utmost importance in all industries and countries. Many companies have installed specific organizational units to develop guidelines for process design, to document and maintain of these processes, and to further increase the processes’ efficiency. Although these enterprises continually work on improving their processes, they often struggle to answer the question on the current status of the maturity of their processes. Therefore, the purpose of this work is to characterize the methodology, applicability, pitfalls and benefits of analyzing the maturity of processes. Design/Method/Approach. This work is based on mixed-methods research recently conducted in a medium-sized German bank. Findings. The paper defined the benefits of measuring the level of maturity of the company’s processes clearly. This work identified the substantial theoretical drawbacks, such as, for example, the lack of considering of process innovation in the extant models of process maturity. Limitations. Naturally, a research limitation is the analysis of a specific company in the financial services sector. Theoretical implications. From a theoretical point of view it is critical to choose the appropriate model out of a variety of available process maturity models. In fact, the selection of the model influences the data, the subsequent interpretation of these data, and the conclusions to be drawn for the company. Originality/Value. The paper is novel as it presents–based on empirical data–the measurement of process maturity including the derivation of implications from both an academic and a practical perspective. In addition, the impact of process maturity on perceived process performance could be shown.  Paper type – empirical.

    Purpose: This paper aims to present a fresh idea on how to model and examine the level of sustainable competitive advantage (SCA) with and without knowledge and /technology (K/T) effects in a case company’s operation by taking the manufacturing strategy’s development directions and the efficiency of resource allocation among its attributes into consideration. Design/Methodology/approach: In this paper, questionnaires are filled by two different managerial groups, company’s management team (G1) and company’s global directors (G2). The analyses based on G1, G2 and G1-G2 (mixed results) are performed and examined as well as the effect of knowledge and /technology rankings to observe the differences on how they effect on company’s operations strategy and what kind of strategy type that decision makers might follow. Besides, the effects of knowledge/technology rankings on SCA risk levels are examined on different case companies to perceive the similarities and differences with our case company. In this case study, the objectives are achieved based on several methodologies: manufacturing strategy index (MSI) [1] and sense and respond (S&R) methodology [2]. Findings: The achieved results through the model are found to be promising corresponding to the feedback from the respondents. Research limitations/implications: The model is applied only in a big sized B2B global company that produces power electronics products. Therefore, further tests need to be applied to the model in case of multiple companies from different sizes and areas to figure out the best formula in case of validation of strategic direction (MAPE, RSME or MAD). Practical implications: As a result of its wide applicability and its ease in arrangement the model has an enormous potential for strategic decision-making process and strategic analysis. Originality/Value:The model can provide a more dependable possibility of sustainable improvement to the corporate operational excellence and strategy.

    This article argues that, strictly speaking, from its inception with the ancient Greeks and for all time, philosophy and science are identical and consist in an essential relationship between a specific type of understanding of the human person as possessed of an intellectual soul capable of being habituated and a psychologically-independent composite whole, or organization. It maintains, further, that absence of either one of the extremes of this essential relationship cannot be philosophy/science and, if mistaken for such and applied to the workings of cultural institutions, will generate anarchy within human culture and make leadership excellence impossible to achieve. Finally, it argues that only a return to this “common sense” understanding of philosophy can generate the leadership excellence that can save the West from its current state of cultural and civilizational anarchy.

    Since most pressing today on a global scale is to be able to unite religion, philosophy, and science into parts of a coherent civilizational whole, and since the ability to unite a multitude into parts of a coherent whole essentially requires understanding the natures of the things and the way they can or cannot be essentially related, this paper chiefly considers precisely why the modern world has been unable to effect this union. In so doing, it argues that the chief cause of this inability to unite these cultural natures has been because the contemporary world, and the West especially, has lost its understanding of philosophy and science and has intentionally divorced from essential connection to wisdom. Finally, it proposes a common sense way properly to understand these natures, reunite them to wisdom, and revive Western and global civilization.
