Opis:
In the article, changes in the properties of oils during operation were characterized. The main reason for this is the continuous aging process of the used oil caused by the interaction of oxygen contained in the air, which reacts relatively easily with hydrocarbons and the oxidation process is accelerated just by high temperature. Then the problem of microorganisms occurring in petroleum products and their effect on the properties of oils and the operation of the internal combustion engine was presented. The next part of the article presents effective microorganisms, i.e. what they are and how they work, in particular, their composition and appropriate development conditions. In addition, some of their specific applications were briefly described. In the next part of the article, the research methodology, applied oil samples with additives of effective microorganisms, both for fresh oil and used oil were described. In addition, the measuring test stand with instrumentation and measuring device was shown. The main part of the article contains the characteristics of dynamic viscosity as a function of temperature for fresh oil and used oil compared with oils with the addition of microorganisms in liquid form and ceramic tubes. The developed graphs enabled analysis of the effect of the addition of microorganisms on oil viscosity as ecological products.

The paper presents mathematical models of the losses occurring in the pump with a theoretical capacity per revolution of the shaft and geometric (variable) performance on the rotation of the shaft. These models were used to laboratory testing and simulation energy losses in the pump to judge the energy efficiency of the pump and the efficiency of the hydrostatic drive. The results of research and analyses should be able to create and exploit the possibilities simulation programs support the process of designing hydraulic systems. Pursuing such programs will allow fast determination of the efficiency of the hydrostatic transmission with a positive displacement pump, composed of any item at any point of the fieldwork. These programs enable the selection of optimal in terms of energy, the operating parameters of the system. In an era of increasingly expensive energy, even a small reduction of losses can bring tangible economic benefits during machine operation. It is important to know the energy efficiency of the transmission, under not only nominal conditions, but also changes in the whole range of working conditions: the speed and load of the hydraulic motor, the viscosity of hydraulic oil particularly in the parameters or the longest occurring during operation. It is necessary, therefore, to design stage gear on a detailed analysis of energy enabling optimal selection of components and operating parameters of the system.

Opis:
The problem of energy tests of hydraulic systems with hydraulic cylinders, seemingly simple displacement machines, is more complex than that of rotary hydraulic systems. The results of the researches provide an insight into the impact of external loads, required speed, structure of the power supply system, viscosity of hydraulic oil on friction loss, and the efficiency of cylinder drive. The hydraulic cylinder is the strongest structure in the system. Failure of the system is most likely due to failure of the pump supplying the cylinder. The high load of the pump is often caused by the very low energy efficiency of the cylinder, which, despite a relatively low external load, requires high inlet pressure due to large mechanical losses of friction between the piston and the cylinder and between the piston rod and gland. These losses depend on the type of seal used, its shape, the material it is made from, pre-clamp, and the operating parameters of the cylinder. Improperly sealed or assembled seals can cause energy losses of up to 25%. Due to the use of moving seals in the hydraulic cylinder, its energy behaviour is completely different compared to the energy behaviour of a rotary motor, which does not have any seals. The friction force connected with the work of the sealing joints and the mechanical efficiency of the cylinder are determined not only by the external load but also by the method of the applicable supply of the cylinder resulting from the throttling structure, and in particular the pressure level generated in the discharge chamber of the cylinder.

Opis:
Radial slide bearings are typically used in turbochargers (among other applications), owing to their simple design and advantages, such as good heat dissipation from the working zone, high stability of operation and low resistance to motion. The current research is both experimental and theoretical. In a state of static equilibrium, the operation of a bearing can be described using a system of five coupled differential equations. The bearing’s operating parameters are related to the type of oil used. Two types of oil, VG46 and VG68, were used for testing. In accordance with the applicable standard, the tolerance of kinematic viscosity of oils is ±10%. The results imply a significant influence of the oil class and viscosity tolerance on the resistance to motion caused by internal friction forces in the oil. In conclusion, it seems advisable that the calculation procedures currently in use should include the slide bearing design optimisation by taking the resistance to motion in the bearing into account.

Opis:
In this paper author presents results of numerical calculations of hydrodynamic pressure distribution in bearing gap, load-carrying capacity, friction force and friction coefficient of slide micro-bearing considering the influence of lubricating oil temperature changes and also taking into account the influence of micro-grooves, which occur on sleeve internal surface. The micro-grooves on that surface are in longitudinal direction. The equation, which describes a bearing gap with micro-grooves on sleeve surface, was adopted from prof. K Wierzcholski's investigations. In very thin gap height of cylindrical micro-bearings, large gradients of temperature can be observed. This causes significant changes of oil dynamic viscosity in the gap height direction. According to this, oil flow velocity, friction forces, and a hydrodynamic pressure during the micro-bearing operation are changing. Up to now the influence of temperature on oil viscosity changes and due to this, on hydrodynamic pressure and on load carrying capacity in cylindrical micro-bearing gap in numerical way were not considered yet. The numerical calculations were performed with the use of Mathcad 14. The finite differences method and own computational procedures were implemented. The calculations were begun by solving the Reynolds' equation, assuming, that the dynamic viscosity is constant. After calculating the hydrodynamic pressure distribution, the temperature distribution in lubricating oil was determined. The obtained function of temperature was used to describe the viscosity changes with temperature. Next step involved determining the hydrodynamic pressure distribution taking into account the viscosity dependence on temperature, and then new distribution of temperature and again new values of viscosity were calculated. Calculations were repeated until assumed convergence and accuracy were reached. The friction force depends on pressure gradient and rotational motion of bearing journal. Part of friction force, which resulting from the pressure gradient, is determined for the area, where the oil film occurs, i.e. from omega p to omega k. Part of friction force, which is related to journal motion, is determined for full wrap angle, i.e. from 0 to 2 pi. The results were presented in the form of graphs, for eccentricity ratio gamma from 0.1 to 0.9, for dimensionless length of the bearing L1=1/4. In numerical calculations were used the theoretical considerations and solutions presented in papers of K. Wierzcholski and A. Miszczak.

The bio-oils are considered to sustainable, alternative and environmentally friendly source of lubricants compared to commercial engine oils, on the base a mineral, synthetic or semi-synthetic. They are obtained from natural raw material (vegetable or animal oils), which are renewable and non-toxic to humans, living organisms and environment. The vegetable oils called green oils, natural oils, bio-oils or natural esters. They can be obtained from plant seeds, that may be consumed – edible oils (for instance: rapeseed oil) or which cannot be consumed – inedible (for example: linseed oil). The conducted research into linseed oil and its different quantity additives (25% and 50%) to commercial marine mineral oil intended for a medium-speed 4-stroke, trunk marine engine (i.e. Marinol RG 1240). The flash point and dependence of viscosity and temperature were compared and assess. It has been proven that vegetable oils have a high ignition temperature and very small viscosity change in the range of temperatures presented, i.e. high viscosity index. According to the results, it can be recommended the addition of 25% linseed oil in the base lubricant is the relevant for lubricating a medium speed 4-stroke marine engine. The vegetable additives can improve a viscosity index a lube oil, and they will be positively affected environmental protection

In this paper, the results of researches on lubricity and content analysis of the personal car’s engine oil are presented. The measurements of lubricity are made on the T02-U four-ball tester. The content analysis is made on the Spectroil Q100 spectrometer, which makes it available to measure the amount of 24 chemical elements. Due to this analysis, technical condition of the engine is possible to estimate. Tested oil is Shell Helix AV-L, which was exploited in the personal car, Volkswagen Touran, equipped with the turbo charged diesel engine, with the capacity of 2.0 litres. The samples for oil ageing characteristics were taken from the engine in the intervals approx. 3500 km. This research was performed as a result of the other studies on the dynamic viscosity characteristics. In the viscosity researches for this oil, was shown, that in the first period of the exploitation time, the viscosity decreases significantly. Detailed research on the additives and wear products content, as well as a lubricity characteristic, defines the reason of such a significant decrease of the oil properties. This paper is a part of a wider research on the oil ageing characteristics. It will support development to the new mathematical model of the lubricating oil viscosity changes during the exploitation time of the engine

This paper is a part of the wider author’s research on the development of the new mathematical model for description of the viscosity changes of the lubrication oil in the exploitation time. Pressure of the oil is a variable parameter in the combustion engine and depends on many design parameters such as oil pump efficiency, geometry of the channels and lubricated element. It depends also on the exploitation parameters, such as rotational speed of the engine or contamination degree of the oil filter. So big amount of the factors, which have an influence on the pressure, resulted in the decision to examine, how big influence has a pressure in the oil viscosity. For the researches, the oil samples from the different combustion engines, both petrol and diesel, with different capacities, were taken into account. In each case, for the examination were taken samples both for the fresh oil and used oil from the change. Results of this research are shown in the tabular in correlation to the engines specification. In the next researches, after collecting all the oil ageing data, author will examine the pressure distribution in the slide bearing. After that it will be will possible to estimate the importance of the pressure changes for the proper work of the engine.

This paper is a continuation of the analysis of the grade of wear of the engine oil, used in the Caterpillar's marine engine, which is working in the engine's room of the harbour tug. Previous studies were related to the dynamic viscosity, lubricity and the grade of the metallic elements contamination. In these studies, the viscosity of the oil in most samples decreased with time of exploitation. However, in some samples, an increase of the viscosity was observed, what may indicate the fuel entering into the circulation of lubricating oil and its subsequent evaporation. Aim of this study is to determine the size of the Total Base Number changes and the flash point changes. The authors examine the changes in Total Base Number and the flash point of the exploited engine oil, in specified intervals in time between its exchanges. The results are analyzed and compared to the previously obtained results of the viscosity, lubricity and the grade of the metallic elements contamination. The analyses of the Total Base Number were conducted on the RST 822 Radiometer from Radiometer Analytical A/S, according to the polish standard PN-76/C-04163: Petroleum Products. Determination of the Total Base Number by potentiometric titration with perchloric acid. Flash point was determined using the Cleveland, in the open pot, using an ISL FP 92 5G device from Tusnovics Instruments Poland Ltd. The conclusions of this paper lead to better understanding of the processes, which occur in marine engines and its influence on the oil aging. Understanding of this process contributes significantly to a more accurate mathematical modelling of the aging process of engine oil.

Opis:
During normal operation, oxidation products gradually foul lubricating oil and external contaminants like fuel, water, sulphur compounds and friction nodes wearing products. As a result, lubricating oil changes its properties, among other things viscosity. In normal service conditions of marine diesel engines lubricating oil viscosity increases due to vaporizing of lube oil light ends during operation in high-temperature areas and oxidation process. Quantity of organic particulates accumulated in lubricating oil increases as a result of oxidation process. Oxidation products have bigger than lubricating oil molecular weight. So as to prevent oxidation process-lubricating oils are provided with antioxidant additives. On the other hand mechanical breakdown of high molecular substances in diesel engine bearings and gas oil leakages cause lubricating oil viscosity drop. The test results presented in the paper show that the lubricating oil viscosity during its operation in the internal combustion engines decreases. The value of viscosity decrease depends mainly on the motor's technical condition, the amount of oil in lube oil system, mode of ignition and its operation. Viscosity tests were performed for the lubricating systems of different engines on a Haake III Mars rheometer at 90 C for variable shear rates. Additionally, in order to determine engine condition, the detail analysis of the tested oil chemical content has been made oil using Spectrol Q100 spectrometer. In the most cases, the research results indicate lubricating oils viscosity decrease and it is possible to determine the relationship between the dynamic viscosity changes and shear rates for the particular engines. In authors opinion the viscosity drop of the tested modern lubricating oils may be caused by better antioxidant additives, which effectively moderate or even prevent the oxidation process. Lubricating oils viscosity drop is dangerous phenomena due to the lowering of the bearings capacity force and possibility of boundary friction.

Statystycznie częściej (71% przypadków) stwierdzano przyrost lepkości olejów podlegających wymianie w terminach przewidzianych harmonogramem czynności obsługowych (maksymalnie o ponad 45% w stosunku do oleju świeżego). Natomiast w przypadku sześciu próbek olejów podlegających wymianie wykazano mniejsze ich lepkości w stosunku do oleju świeżego (maksymalnie o 25,1%).
Qualitative changes of engine oils take place in the operation process of driving units of farm tractors. Their intensity is the resultant, among others, of operating conditions, technical condition of the engine and the culture of using and servicing. Performed tests of lubricating oils used in farm tractors engines of the John Deere type pointed at the complex mechanism of changes in their viscosity. Statistically more often (71% of all cases) an increase in viscosities was stated for oils replaced within the time limits specified in schedule of service activities (maximally over 45% in relation to fresh oil). However in the case of six samples of oils subjected to replacement their viscosity was smaller in comparison with fresh oil (maximally by the 25.1%).
