Opis:
Abstract: Dipsacus fullonum L. syn. D. sylvestris is a biennial plant from the Dipsacaceae family. It grows in Europe, North Africa and Asia Minor. It has been used in folk medicine mainly to treat Lyme disease. This study was undertaken to identify and compare the components of the essential oils from dried and fresh roots, which are usually applied as medicinal agents, as well as those of the essential oils from dried and fresh leaves, used less frequently. The essential oils from the Dipsacus fullonum leaves and roots were analysed by the GC and GC-MS analysis. 18 components were identified in the essential oil from the fresh leaves, whereas 37 were recognised in the oil from the dried leaves; 10 components were identified in the essential oil from the fresh roots and 40 in that from the dried roots. Phytol was the main component in the essential oil from the leaves, whereas n-hexadecanoic acid was predominant in the roots. The α -amylase inhibition has been proven for methanolic extracts of D. fullonum leaves and roots. The strongest activity was demonstrated by the extract from fresh leaves of D. fullonum and showed an effect about one hundred times weaker than acarbose.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to evaluate seed oil content and oil composition in five Camelina sativa and four Crambe abyssinica cultivars as an interaction of a genotype and the climatic conditions in Lithuania. The studied species differed in the seed oil content, glucosinolate content in oil and oil fatty acid composition. The oil content was 22.1-42.5% in dry matter of camelina seeds and 23.4-36.6% in crambe seeds. The glucosinolate content varied from 61.8 to 68.6 µmol g-1 in oil of crambe, and from 8.6 to 30.5 µmol g-1 in oil of camelina. The oil content in seeds and glucosinolate content in oil of each species differed between the research years but not between the cultivars. The glucosinolate content in oil correlated significantly with the oil content in dry matter of seeds. However, this correlation was negative for camelina (rs=-0.59, p=0.045) and positive for crambe (rs=0.86, p=0.007). Camelina oil was characterised by the dominance of linolenic acid (34.8-41.6%), while crambe oil was predominated by erucic acid (53.0-60.9%). The second most abundant fatty acid in oil of both species was oleic acid, whose amount did not differ between the species. At the same time, the content of all other studied fatty acids differed significantly between both species. Our study indicated that variation in seed oil content, glucosinolate content and fatty acid composition in each studied species was much less affected by inheritable features of cultivars than by meteorological conditions in the research years.

Opis:
In previous work [1], the essential oil of the aerial parts of Marrubium vulgare L. obtained by hydrodistillation was analysed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS) in order to determine their chemical composition. Fifty (50) components in the oil of M. vulgare were identified. The results demonstrated that the major components of the essential oil were: 4,8,12,16-Tetramethyl heptadecan-4-olid (16.97 %), Germacrene D-4-ol (9.61 %), α- pinéne (9.37 %), Phytol (4.87 %), Dehydro-sabina ketone (4.12 %), Piperitone (3.27 %), δ-Cadinene (3.13 %), 1-Octen-3-ol (2.35 %) and Benzaldehyde (2.31 %). In this study, the antioxidant properties of essential oil were examined. The results showed that this oil can be considered an effective source of antioxidants of natural origin. This is the first report on chemical composition of M. vulgare essential oil cultivated in Algeria and the original study on the antioxidant activity of M. vulgare essential oil. The antioxidant activity was investigated with one method: 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging method.

The aim of the study was to determine the possibility of the isolation of valuable chemical compounds from pyrolysis oil obtained from the pyrolyzed waste car tires. Produced pyrolysis oil were subjected to a distillation process to isolate medium naphtha fraction average naphtha that contains limonene, which according to the literature data, can be used as an environmental friendly solvent in a number of cleaning agents. Considering the boiling point of limonene (176°C), the medium fraction of the separated oil was re-distilled to isolate compounds with temperature of boiling point between 174-177°C. The prepared sample was analysed by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectroscopy. Based on the chromatographic analysis, it was found that in a separate sample of pyrolysis oil the highest share constituted toluene, and then cyclobutane, benzene derivatives, which is essential in the chemical industry. The share of limonene was low (approx. 1%), what is explained by too high temperature of the pyrolytic process. The results of analysis and literature allow unequivocally state that in order to separate specific compounds from pyrolytic oil, parameters of this process should be first determined in pilot studies. In conclusion, it is believed that the pyrolysis of tires is suitable method of disposing of the waste, thereby obtaining products containing valuable compounds for the fuel and chemical industries.

The Dräger probe in the measurement set to the geochemical research of the soil gases composition is inconvenient to use. It's heavy, which are reąuired to operate at least two people. Cumbersome and time-consuming is to place it into the soil by impact method, and often there is fail to reach the planned measurement depth. For this reason, there was designed and made the new modified Dräger probe. The new probe has significantly lower mass and outer diameter. In principle it should be possible to introduce it into the soil by pushing, which will greatly facilitate and accelerate conducting the geochemical research of the soil gases composition. In the autumn of 2014 has been tested the modified Drager probe. The purpose of this study is to assess it suitability to conduct the geochemical research of the soil gases composition. In total there were performed 374 measurements of the soil gases composition at different depths in the 247 measurement points. In 99 cases (26.5%) there was failed to perform the measurement because the soil gases flow rate through the meter was too little. Pulling probe usually allowed to perform the research - in only 6 measurement points (2.4%), it was impossible. The average depth of the measurement point is equal to 0.78 m.

The aim of the study was to determine the ultrasounds treatment of frying oil on their properties important in order to biodiesel production. The research material was a frying oil, which prior to transesterification oil was treated with ultrasounds (37 kHz) during 15, 30 and 60 min. In next step, prepared samples were analysed in terms of fatty acid composition, acid value, FFA % and then subjected to alkali transesterification process. After producing methyl esters the yield of biodiesel was analysed with thin liquid chromatography technique (TLC), and then samples were characterized in terms of viscosity in 40 °C, density at 15 °C, acid value, sulphur content and flash point. The results showed that an ultrasonic treatment had a little impact on the fatty acid composition of the test samples. The yield of biodiesel was the higher the longer time of ultrasounds treatment were used. One the other hand, determined with thin liquid chromatography technique yield of biodiesel was the higher the longer time of ultrasounds treatment were used. What is more, the ultrasounds treatment of oil before transesterification process had no impact on viscosity, density and acid value of these samples, while flash point values and sulphur content were changed.

Opis:
Hydrogenation of rapeseed oil proceeds according to different mechanisms when using copper and nickel catalyst. The products obtained exhibit different compositions of fatty acids which in turn influences their quality and nutritive and physical properties.
5 i 6). Powodem tego jest stosunkowo niewielkie stężenie izomerów geometrycznych w produkcie uwodornionym na Cu oraz niezmienny, w stosunku do surowca wyjściowego, poziom kwasów nasyconych. W konsekwencji tego, produkt pozbawiony kwasu linolenowego przez selektywne uwodornienie, zachowuje konsystencję ciekłą w temperaturze pokojowej (tab.).

Despite the reputation earned by aromatic and medicinal plants of Algeria, the chemical constituents of Eucalyptus globulus essential oil (EGEO) of Blida origin has not previously been investigated. Thus, the present study has been conducted for the determination of chemical constituents and different physico-chemical properties of the EGEO. Chemical composition of the EGEO, grown in Algeria, was analysed by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry. The chemical components were identified on the basis of Retention Time and comparing with mass spectral database of standard compounds. Relative amounts of detected compounds were calculated on the basis of GC peak areas. Fresh leaves of E. globulus on steam distillation yielded 0.96 % (v/w) of essential oil whereas the analysis resulted in the identification of a total of 11 constituents, 1.8 cineole (85.8 %), α-pinene (7.2 %), and β-myrcene (1.5 %) being the main components. Other notable compounds identified in the oil were β-pinene, limonene, α-phellandrene, γ-terpinene, linalool, pinocarveol, terpinen-4-ol, and α-terpineol. The physical properties such as specific gravity, refractive index and optical rotation and the chemical properties such as saponification value, acid number and iodine number of the EGEO were examined. The oil extracted has been analyzed to have 1.4602 - 1.4623 refractive index value, 0.918 - 0.919 specific gravity (sp.gr.), +9 - +10 optical rotation that satisfy the standards stipulated by European Pharmacopeia. All the physical and chemical parameters were in the range indicated by the ISO standards. Our findings will help to access the quality of the Eucalyptus oil which is important in the production of high value essential oils that will help to improve the economic condition of the community as well as the nation.
