Opis:
Box threaded connections of pipes are used at oil and gas recovery. The pipe and the coupling interact elastically by their tapered surfaces with radial tightness in the thread and the sealing. Strength and impermeability of the connection depends on this interaction. The pipe and the coupling are thin-walled cylinders with the linear variable wall thickness. Their sections have varying lengthwise rigidity of walls and axial-symmetric bends. Therefore, their calculation differs from the Lame problem and from the calculation of cylinders with the fixed wall thickness.Physical and mathematical principles of the calculating parameters of elastic-strained state of all parts of pipe walls and coupling connections with the sealing box have been formulated in the article.

Opis:
The content in this report was presented at the 3rd MUSE steering committee meeting at UoS, in Stavanger, December 10th, 2015. The project report consists of five individual reports, each focusing on various themes: 1. Hydrocarbon Reservoir Behaviour during the Process of Abandonment and Thereafter by Victor Chukwudi Anokwuru, IPT/TN/UoS 2. Monitoring Techniques Applied to CCS-EOR by Intergrity Obara, IPT/TN/UoS 3. Risk Assessment by Emil Gazizullin, IPT/TN/UoS 4. Environmental Considerations of CO2 Projects by Oduro Takyiwa Susanna, IKM/TN UoS and Yen Adams Sokama-Neuyam, IPT/TN/UoS 5. How to Reduce the Likelihood of Environmental Impacts During Plug and Abandonment by Alexander Steine Johnsen, Preben Emil Haugen and Jann Rune Ursin, IPT/TN/UoS The reports are all written under supervision of the WP2 project leader. All reports are based on open sources; local (UoS) reports, publications available on the internet, official publications and journal papers, and communications with a great number of individual resource persons in the Norwegian oil and gas industry. The relevance of the work presented in the above mentioned reports, in relation to the MUSE project objectives is, as far possible, promoted through carefully following the project description (part of the AGH–UoS partnership agreement) and with reference to a preliminary WP1 progress report from mid February 2015; WP1-Selecting reservoirs for application of CO2 storage with IOR technology and feasibility studies. The work in the MUSE project is accomplished through the willingness and skills of UoS department master students, hired as project assistants. Fortunately for the project there are quite a few high class student, capable of writing high quality technical reports at UoS. The five reports are presented sequentially and all reports are the responsibility of the author and all reports are approved by the WP2 project leader.

The aim of the article is to discuss the Norwegian Model of hydrocarbon management and its impact on building a just and equal society. Since 1972, the model has been based on the separation of policy, commercial, and regulatory functions. Within each area there is state-controlled institution with its own distinct role. This model of separation of duties is however combined with other unique features which cannot be easily copied by other counties. These include a long tradition and high level of democratic co-operation, intergovernmental checks and balances, socio-democratic traditions of strong public involvement, mature institutional capacity (mainly a competent bureaucracy) and highly developed model of co-operation between government, business and research institutions.

As part of rotary - hydraulic drilling method (the most common method for drilling the wells) the rock is displaced by the action of drilling bit, being removed from the bottom and brought to the surface, through the drilling fluid. Besides this function, the drilling fluid creates a backpressure against the borehole walls, overcoming the collapse of the poorly consolidated rocks as well as the fluids influx from the formations crossed by the well.

In offshore industry activities, the suitable onboard provision of assets location and geospatial marine information during operations is essential. Currently, most companies use its own data structures, resulting in incompatibility between processes. In order to promote the data exchange, oil and gas industry associations have pursued initiatives to standardize spatial information. In turn, the IMO - International Maritime Organization - started the implementation of e-Navigation policy, which is the standardization of technologies and protocols applied to maritime information and navigation. This paper shows relationship and integration points between maritime activities of oil and gas industry and e-Navigation technologies and processes, highlighting geospatial information. This paper also preludes out an initiative for a suitable product specification for the offshore oil and gas industry, compliant with e-Navigation and IHO S-100 international standards.

Opis:
Crude oil and natural gas belong to the most important raw minerals used by industry. Their world’s consumption remains on a high level with an increasing tendency, similarly the demand for exploration-prospecting works. The drilling works associated with reservoir prospecting and development are connected with the risk of reaching intervals containing highly pressurized formation fluids and with blowouts. When drilling the first well in a given area, the operator frequently does not have a full set of data about reservoir parameters of the drilled horizons. Investors want the drilling companies finish their works in the shortest possible time, therefore technologies which maximize the drilling advancement are employed. One of such techniques is drilling with minimally higher hydrostatic pressure of mud as compared to the reservoir pressure. If the drilling hits a porous interval of elevated reservoir pressure, reservoir fluid may inflow to the wellbore. If the hydrostatic pressure of fluid column in the wellbore is lower than reservoir pressure, the wellbore will be fed with reservoir water, which will consequently migrate towards the top of the well. This may result in a kick and then a blowout. The inflow to the wellbore can be handled only by well trained crew and appropriate equipment. The crew has to recognize the flow, and depending on the condition of the well take suitable measures. Sometimes the lack of proper training, errors, hardware failures and improperly protected top of the well lead to a fully developed blowout from the well. Particularly dangerous are cases when the surface blowout prevention equipment or other elements of the well BOP facilities break down. In such situations rescue teams with specialist equipment have to be involved. Exemplary applications and technological potential of specialist blowout control equipment in uncontrolled kick of reservoir fluid though the string are presented in the paper. The designed tool and its functions allow for killing or reducing the outflow.

Opis:
This paper explores the literature to identify common occupational injuries, diseases, and psychological wellbeing on oil rigs as well as the negative environmental impacts of the upstream oil and gas sector. It ends by making recommendations for effective health, safety, and environmental (HSE) management. Review of the literature showed that contusion (bruise), cuts, and laceration are the commonest occupational injuries that workers on the oil rig suffer and that the injuries mostly affect the hand and finger, leg, and eyes of the offshore workers. These injuries were found to be caused mostly by direct stroke, jamming and overstrain. Similarly, accidental poisoning, musculoskeletal disorders, respiratory disorders and diseases of the digestive system were also documented as the commonest occupational diseases among offshore workers. The literature also shows that working offshore is associated with poorer psychological wellbeing or health; this is to say that offshore workers tend to experience higher levels of stress, burnout, anxiety, depression, low job satisfaction (particularly with the environmental conditions associated with their work), and sleep disorders. Finally, the literature review indicated that land-use problems, air pollution, acid rain, climate change, habitat disruption, environmental degradation, oil spills and leakages are some of environmental impacts of upstream oil production. This review was concluded by recommending some measures for the management of the HSE hazards associated with the oil and gas sector.
